But atleast you are better prepared physiologically than someone that gets flung anywhere to do anything

Rare:
This is the persistent Naija issue. NYSC rules are there. Those who can't tweak it, face the music. Those who can, sing a different song.
kind of agree, a friend got sent to calabar, served in a bank another friend got flung elsewhere, to serve with a local government council with no office per se just an abandoned building with no electricity so had to sit outside trying to learn the language with the help of almajiri students for months until he tweaked it and moved out

Kobojunkie:
Yeah, one could call it extortion but who knows, the Lagos documents may come free to those who already have out-of-state documents. I don't know enough of the details here for me to make absolute statements of this yet. I think the main reason for the move is to ensure all those vehicles are roadworthy, by Lagos Standards. We are talking here of a state that reports a tanker fire almost every month, with fatalities. It makes sense that something need to be done and I am more than certain that not much is happening about this at the federal level.

This is the same state that has tried on various occasions to get FERMA to partner with it in order to get many of the federal roads road worthy, with not much result there.
Well we dont have much information but i doubt anything free will come free from the state considering the response from the dude.

The Lagos govt with all its media might and sophistication should be able to convince the federal govt to do something, if tehy have tried it would have been in the papers knowing how well they love positive response- they have not tried or tried enough in my opinion and with most things Lagos is not pulling its weight on a national level ACN or not, Lagos alone could turn the whole nation against Jonathan inaudibles Goodluck, so the have an opportunity to get Federal govt attention.
No state has been able to get FERMA to repair their road and it's not like Lagos govt have been able fix their own portion outside of V.I and Lekki

How about a national round table to get the discussion rolling i doubt anyone at the federal level will be oppose to this, Lagos have visible senators and house of rep members, this call seems very quick, desperate and not well thought and i hope he isnt speaking for the govt

Kobojunkie:
I don't have to live in Nigeria or be right in front of you to know what happens and is legal/illegal in Nigeria. I don't think here that Lagos is requiring they don't have documents from other states. It seems more the case that the drivers will be required to have, in addition, a document issued in Lagos. So, again, I don't see your obviously illegal claim.
Well that will be extortion wouldnt it? A bit like double taxation already crippling business
Politics › Re: Lagos Plans To Instigate Nationwide Petrol Shortage by DisGuy: 10:31pm On Dec 05, 2010
@Johndoe

is this a reaction to the several tanker/trailer fires?

Wouldnt it be easier/proper if LASG together with the FRSC initiate some sort of programme with the help of the NA to revamp M.O.T and re-organise Drivers' license acquisition?

I read some time ago that LASTMA will now be seizing any license that is not from the Lagos state drivers' institute, apparently they went about telling people fake officials issued them and not on the database undecided

“As part of our plans, we intend to explore how we can make fans utilise some of the infotainment facilities at some of the stadiums used for the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1999 to encourage fans to come to stadiums by showing English Premiership matches ahead of our league matches.

“This means the ticket that brings a fan into a stadium entitles him to watch English Premiership matches that would be shown live on the stadium’s big screens.

“We also intend to use some local musicians, cultural entertainment and raffle draws to mobilise fans to the stands. These are ideas we are trying to fine-tune to get the league up and running again,” Owunmi said.

In a recent tour of the German Bundesliga by five Nigerian journalists, sponsored by SuperSports, the stadiums of two German football clubs -- Kaisaslautern and Mainz 05 -- were filled to capacity, evoking memories of those days when fans thronged Onikan, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Sharks stadiums to watch quality league matche

2. Senators should live in their constituencies, permanently. Their end of month take home pay should be no more than twice the minimum wage. A basic salary and allowances equal to the minimum wage.
I totally agree with this point, and they should hold constituency meeting every two weeks atleast!!

I've always said majority of the senators from the worst part of Nigeria don't appear to live or visit their village/communities- they just dash Sheraton Abuja money all year round

The overhead tank of a N539 million water treatment plant in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, collapsed yesterday during a test-run by the contractor. Water had been pumped into the tank for the first time when it keeled over and fell.
Kasse blamed “technical problems” for the tank’s collapse but told newsmen the management of the contractors was yet to report to Lafia to give reasons. He said, “The contractor is not around. We want to meet with the contractor first because the project is still under him, and is only being test run.”

The project was expected to be presented for commissioning soon.

You do know car tax is calculated partly with the amount of CO2 emissions, that's why green cars are exempted from the congestion charge

read properly buz

Naija is not a place you just return back to especially if you have stayed out for a long time. When you get used to uninterrupted power supply, no mosquito, security etc, its hard adjusting to the opposite.
he is talking about adjusting not as if those were his reasons, you should read the whole thing together and not pick out some texts!

Buz will you just up and leave after facing some challenges with a couple of millions n your account without thinking of all those things he listed and knowing full well you haven't got a solid foundation (job, networks, business) back home?

will you carry solar to every village you go to, carry mosquito cream in your manbag

NYSC › Re: Is It Wise To Come Back To Do NYSC? by DisGuy: 7:38pm On Dec 03, 2010
netotse:
as long as you were under 30 after your undergraduate you'll have to do NYSC.

I'm not a foreign trained grad but i'll add my 2 cents.

I chose where i wanted to carry out my NYSC(right down to the place i was posted) and for me what determined that choice was my career path, i have my NYSC as part of my work experience, i'm not the patient type so i knew i wasn't going to teach anybody's child. . .lol

I had fun, i was in the north and despite the fact that i live in abj, it still took some getting used to, yes there were times i felt like all northerners should be gathered in a room and shot, but in the end, i came out with a better understanding of the average northerner than i had before.

The average nigerian is ignorant but will never admit it(heck he's ignorant of his ignorance, a double whammy right?) ,most nigerians have never lived outside the states where they grew up and so are steeped in stereotypes. NYSC is a chance to learn something different, i grew up in lagos and only moved to abuja in the not too distant past so my perception of northerners was restricted to the talk i heard around me, (even abj isn't exactly a northern town as areas have their caucauses) spending time in Niger state changed the way i think about them in general, yep i had a lot of bad experiences but i came out better for it all.

Would i advise anyone to do NYSC? definitely, but you need to know exactly why you're going in, most of the retards that come telling you horror stories had unreal expectations going in and most of the people that come back telling you how horrible other tribes are probably forgot that they were strangers in another man's land and needed to respect their hosts. It's not rocket science, it's human nature(far more complex cheesy)
Are you saying EVERY graduate have the opportunity to choose exactly where they serve right down to the place they are posted BECAUSE i dont know how possible it is to avoid horror stories when people have very little options on where they serve and in what capacity- I think most people understand they're going in to serve the country and conditions wont be the best but at least they'll have better experiences if their abilities are put to better use in an okay environment

stand to be corrected though, on choosing a place to serve

Just get a lot of work experience even voluntary community advocacy work and choose as broad modules as possible if you are not sure of what you want to focus on at PH masters level

Sanusi is just plainly arrogant. He was wrong in his calculation because he did not factor all the money spent by the Government. 13.8 per cent and not 25 per cent of the recurrent budget was spent on Lawmakers. What percentage was spent on Executive & Judiciary?
Where is the evidence that he is wrong? Did any other person apart from the N assembly come out to say its wrong?
Even aganga didnt say he was wrong, the figures are from different dept and depending on how you look at it, it is also right
