Fhemmmy: It is not the job of Soludo to be monitoring the bank MDs and be looking at their books to see who is owing and not paying, it is the job of the banks to make it known that people are owing and not paying them, i think the banks has been cooking the book to make them look good. And whose job is it to prevent them from boiling the books? it is someone's job to punish the offenders! someone was looking away or applying mascara over these ugly trends Lemo is next |

Dont think about the money alone! The problem is people concentrate too much on working when they move over on student visa The best thing is to come with enough funds at least for the first six months after paying tuition fees and accommodation, Most studentshave never worked before so studying and working in a new country is hard! The workload for Masters student and Undergraduate is heavy; just because some are having lecturers only 3-4 days they think they can do all within the week leaving no time for uncertainties or the student experience via the pub |

My guy lets talk content please. I am a football fan but find it absurd to pay 6k for HITV which is just football and almost nothing else.
I was part of those that were annoyed with the pricing of DSTV but now that we have HITV , I do not think DSTV is expensve when you consider the number of channels and overall content. Then we thought these SA guys were ripping us off , but the one wey our niger guys (HITV) dey do na im bad pass.
The truth is if HITV can so upgrade its content that one can completely dump DSTV , then its okay. But as is I do not see why I will dump DSTV for HITV . Na only football person go dey watch?
At a time like this when uncertainty looms in the the country's finances I will be stupid to be paying 15k per month for pay tv ALONE.
Let them just revert to 4k then we can talk. truely nigerian ko,truely nigerian ni
Maybe if commercial centres start paying for the right, they just might. . . .

I have HITV and I do not go to viewing centers but it is obvious that this draconian measure will put many VC operators out of business. But is 20k that much for VC? why are businessmen so greedy? All you have to do is start selling membership tickets- like season tickets and Introduce Executive Couch-Fine Kangaroo leather, Reclinable seats, Complimentary Prawn sandwich Infact hire a masseuse for you viewing centre, you will never go out of business |

Phony200: As for source, it's in the Guardian. Commercial viewing centres will pay 20k per month while hotels pay 1200 per room. Wow. A friend of mine owns a viewing centre. I doubt they can cope with that. I see this as kinda outrageous. I heard viewing centres are quite profitable, so paying 20k a month should be part of the business knowing you can recoup that after one small game. Pubs in the UK and outdoor centres pay different rate to homes and businesses. Just blocking leakages really and it make sense |

haboosa: @ jarus I was able to go through your story on Lamido Sanusi I dont know on before you even paste it here on naira land and I was able to read many other personal article you use to publish, all this make me respect you but the fact still remains that no matter what this guy (Lamido Sanusi) put in place in other to rectify the abnormalities left behind by this so call MD ceos, people will still critize him for religion and ethnic biasness, what i think is that we need total reorientation of the Nigerian masses see what i wrote above, it was culled from a national dailies for God sake this total craziness(I apologize for that bad language have got no option),let us all come together and fight this corruption with our own hands. As sefago rightly said the other time that America are also corrupt but they don’t just allow it to overwhelm them, by supporting Lamido Sanusi we can articulate the fight against corruption, even if he(Lamido) too tends to lean towards it(corruption) we can correct him too. This is our country and we do not have any other place to call our own rather can we invite people outside to run our things for us. God bless Nigeria. You have to remember most of these guys like the politicians own the media houses in nigeria what happened to all the awards they(media) gave these bankers and their banks, without seeing their balance sheet? |

Although i support him 100% for the action he took to sanitise these banks and also understood the rationale behind removing them cos Naturally since he is injecting about 2.5 billion dollars to save these banks its only fair that he should remove them if he has no confidence in them. However I REALLY DONT THINK HE SHOULD PUT THEM IN JAIL LIKE HE SAID.OH ESPECIALLY THAT LADY PLEASE !!!!!
WHAT DO YOU THINK? didnt watch it, do you have a link? mikeansy: Lets not turn this debate into another Sanusi vs Soludo
Consolidation shielded our country from the effects of global downtown, ATM was an attempt to bring Nigeria's banking processes in tune with the 21st century. If these achievements are what makes a man a crook, I wanna be one.
Firing 5 CEOs abruptly and replacing them with some of your pals at FBN does not sound like much of an achievement to me. For the sake of our country we all hope that Sanusi succeeds, but its still early days to predict but I wish him well, if not for anything for the sake of Nigeria.
By the way since he entered he has done nothing more than talk down our baking system and each time he does this it sends ripples to the Stock Market. One momment Nigeria's Banks are not sound, the next moment 5 CEOs are sacked. Each time Naira drops against the dollars. Yes the CBN is a regulatory body, but if you continue to undermine the system and it crashes, you will have nothing to regulate.
We need an integrated and positive approach to Banking reform whenever necessary, not just to grab headlines. ripples to what stock market? the one that is also cooked by madam? its better we stop playing ostrich and do something once and for all!! everyone knows the banking sector is mashed up! how in the world do you send people on the street to get deposits |

novaman: My Dear Nairalaner,
One thing we all should know is that she is only a square peg in round hole; ministers in Nigeria are not just there for political reasons they actually make use of information provided to them by the people on ground (civil servant) in this case those are the people in the NTA, especially the Director General. He is suppose to be in position to know that Standard Definition can never be upgraded to High Definition; although she will get all the fire at the end because she relied solely on the information provided to her by the criminals in the ministry instead of doing her own ground work. It is the DG of the NTA and those who acted as middle guys that the EFCC should invite immidiately for questionning as that will revil so many things.
On the issue of whether they should continue with the HD, I think they should since every network is expected to switch to digital by 2012, now is the best time to do so, as it will be good for NTA to start on HD rather than wait until 2010 or 2012 or 2015 (the final date). So i think whether or not they have the right to host or not they should get the HD it is good for the nation but they should review the cost and ensure that nobody tries to say we are upgrading, instead they should replace completely. If South Africa could have purchase their entire system used for the Conferendation Cup at just $6.8Billion, we can see that someone is not telling us the truth; let us contribute ideas instead of castigating. I blame her for accepting the job, she should have gone to health. She has the resources to get independent consultants and technical people to help her do her job properly! When square pegs are put in round holes, tehy get reliable competent experts working with them so the workers dont mess their brains up with technical jargons and financial jiobberish. this way they wont be made to look like fools what the DG/Minister is basically trying to do is outmuscle AIT one way or the otehr over this football right, it has already been lost they should concentrate on improving or even privatising the NTA, we are tired the low quality junk and old hands working there |

Aso Rock is a tourist attraction and the millennium park, from what i hear there are some other attractions in villages around especially a certain village market where things are extremely cheap and in abundance str8 from the farm |
