It is so disheartening that somebody just chose to be typing stupid topic on this forum, Iwu should bury his head in shame for failing to conduct credible elections in Nigeria. It goes beyond just to announce the results of elections, but it also involve to put adequate mechanism in place for the elections to be free and fair so that the wishes of the masses or people can prevail. People like Late Gani, Beko etc lived for the attainment of democracy and credibe elections, which will leads to institutionalization of functioning and performing good governance to the people. as a matter of national interest, Iwu and Yar'adua should apology to Nigerians for bring shame to the country during the last elections.
lets be honest, he cant do that when the law maker dash thugs money, gun and bus to threathened the people come election day, the electoral bill is not in the hands on INEC chairman its somewhere btw the president and the legislators

The so-called crime commited by the 5 md/ceo are not worth compared to those of the bankers in the developed economy that crashed recently. lets ask ourselves why these countries did not sack a single bank executive in spite of the magnitude of their perceived crime.

why must you just select 5 banks and put them in your custody why the rest are currently been investigated?

as a matter of fact, all nigerian banks do what the 5 has been said to commit and sanusi know ever since when he was md of first bank.

The other banks will have time to quickly tidy up their messes now and later sanusi may say nothing was found againts them. Is this justice? lets be honest.

The truth will definately be unveiled.

Why was vanguard the only newspaper of its category that was not invited to follow sanusi to UK?

Lets open our eyes o, something definately is going on.

i personally know so many banks that are far more worse that the indicted 5 banks.
banks in europe had their management moved around and some left

its the EFCC that is putting them in custody not CBN, and the 5 were the worse of the lot

Yea the other banks do what they are accused of but these ones do it with impunity!!!

the other banks wont have time to quickly tidy up as the audit is for periods sanusi came into office

yea the truth will be unvield

newspapers have limited invite they share it amongst themselves- and vanguard is not a paper you invite to
serious meeting anyway especially as it is owned by these guys

you personally know banks that are far worse? name them !!

Olofinjana is one of the worst players in the premier league. He has never impressed me. I watch him play
Apparently because Etuhu cant speak pigdin properly and calls Amodu by his first name

Olofinjana is a very hard worker though, he's one of those players you dont 'see' what they do really but they work their legs off breaking up plays and making their presence felt in the middle

theres noting in this interview to suggest theres an agenda

The Banking Act empowers the Central Bank to remove from office banking executives who in their opinion, when such fact is well established, is responsible for the distress of their institution. That is what it seems the Central Bank is doing.
I have read that. But, there is no basis for making such assertion. Yes, he said he will sell these banks but he has not said to anybody from the North. You cannot impute that motive that since he said he would sell, he was surely going to sell to certain people in the country
I like nigerians sha, we love to manipulate words to suit ourselves! grin
I dont have beefs with the individual called, Sanusi, infact i admire him. But i get uncomfortable when i see the workings of a devious plan with the sole intent of disrupting the little economic vibrancy this country has.

The whole economy of Southern Nigeria evolves round the banking industry. Telecomm coys are booming cause bankers are calling, clothing stores on the Island, Cinemas, private schools everything revolves round the banking industry.

Nothing kills banking faster than bad press. Banking is all about perception, so when the suppossed No. 1 banker in the indusrty starts labelling banks as sick i get really worried.
what if they are really sick, undecided

the general perception prior to this tsunami was that some banks are crooked institutions that never give loan to 'real' business men, they cook their figures year in year out, deduct cot,mot ppt from depositors account and introduce frivolous charges overnight, with all their Harvard oxbridge this and that they never respond to emails and customer complaints the way banks are supposed to. . . . .

No one is totally against foreign ownership.
what we are against is that this scheme is being hatched for some faceless, disgruntled elements to have ownership in Nigeria's top 5 banks.
you must mave been following sanusi's shameful admission to the fact that an islamic bank is in the pipeline.
Now our curiosity is this;
was he appointed cbn governor to float a religious scheme or to be the governor of NIGERIAN'S CBN?
was he placed there to victimize the south (which in arguably owns the post consolidation banks) and enslave them under the northern continual oppression?

Again, these so called foreigners who are they; arab money bags who ll come and aid the actualisation of the islamic bank or the likes of your HSBK?
First i'd like to know if union bank, fidelity are top five banks in nigeria
Are you saying only northerners have enough money to buy banks im suret hats what you meant when you say faceless/disgruntled elements
Islamic banking options has been in the pipeline way before Sanusi came into office

Who are the foreigners? They could be anyone even local investors, citi bank is in nigeria, standard charted etc stanbic part owned.

The principal focus at this point in time is not to sell the banks. We did not go to the UK to sell the banks; we did not go to the UK to meet investors. We went to the UK to meet with the correspondent banks and creditors and assured of the safety of the banks and to make ourselves available to any questions they had about the actions that we took.
“The primary purpose of that is to tell the good news about the Nigerian economy and to situate our action against the general process of guaranteeing financial stability.
“Once these banks are stabilised and it is time for things to move on, our preference is for these banks to have a core investor that will run them professionally and put in place a governance structure and system that will ensure that we do not have a recurrence of what happened before. This core investor could either be foreign or local.”
The CBN governor, however, pointed out that there was no law preventing a Nigerian bank to be owned 100 per cent by a foreign investor, adding that the law did not also preclude a foreign investor from owning a Nigerian bank.
always make sure your read his own story comments

If you want Islamic banking you dont go to london, you visit Dubai UAE and co

when Fashola, Ameachi, Gbenga Daniel etc go to dubai they are not accused of islamising their states,
when mallam goes to london na another story tongue

No2Atheism:
Now u are seeing the trojan horse being revealed gradually . . . .

I have said and i would repeat, islamic banking is just another step towards islamising nigeria. Islam is based on the claiming and domination of territories whether physical or virtual.

It would take bloodshed to uproot it from anywhere. Hence Nigerians need to make a choice of whether they want the bloodshed now (refusing to allow the nonsense to take root) or they want it later.

Soon there would be a law as regards another islamic purpose . . . . If there is no ulterior motive, there would not be need to involve federal government in it. FG is being involved because something illegal is about to be done and forced on other people via the use of the power of the gun . . .
you are basically acting on someone elses fear undecided

do you know that the draft for islamic banking options was done way before sanusi resumed?

there is no law preventing foreign banks from owning or operating banks in nigeria anyway and the CBN said he wont stand in the way of foreign ownership, why are nigerian banks not happy to have foreign competitors anyway? perhaps they know their shoddy customer service will ruin them in the long run!

The CBN does not need any permission from the lawmakers to borrow banks money, that is what they are there for!

Islamic banking has been discussed in the UK and i'm sure it's been practised too- I didnt hear one single mention of the uk turning islamic just because an islamic product is being offered but in nigeria its something else entirely!

Islamic banking was discussed last year or the year before under soludo no one mentioned islamizing nigeria but now a mallam is in charge and the word is everywhere- just amused the way we are so quick to leave our brains behind to jump on a bandwagon with the vanguard leading the way of course
