He called Obasanjo. Obasanjo in turn called Yar'Adua, and a deal was sealed. Obasanjo commanded Yar'Adua to call off the invasion. The President promptly complied."
Yar'Adua, who was an under intense pressure to please his benefactor was said to have called the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa.
It was a peeved Aondoakaa who querulously called Mrs Farida Waziri, the EFCC boss, to call off the operation. Her wish was carried out within minutes. The operators, almost apologising to Imoke, left the house and headed back to office. dont you just love nigerian journalists? see Nollywood Tory Garba Ladan, a gardener, saw it all. He told our reporters, "At about Afternoon, the whole of this area was filled with security men. They were around Imoke's house. I think he has done something bad because they wanted to break into the house." security men or efcc officials? could be that his security men forgot his keys so they thought they just break in! |

hey you are still alive, what happened to you running to nigeria for university? Are you really sure you are going to nigeria after your studies? What do you really want to do, which do you enjoy? One thing working in nigeria and another thing earning a decent salary major employers in nigeria are the Oil and gas (usually employ engineering students) the banks (they employ almost everybody with a degree! with any degree usually with 2'1) If you have an accounting degree in the U.K you don't become chartered; you only get exempted from some exams or so you can join the Nigerian association by taking some exams which is not necessarily up to three years, and you don't even have to be chartered in nigeria to work if you have your ACCA that is usually good enough I think they are working to harmonise the associationif you want to get a good job in nigeria do accounting!!! You can even work with a pharmaceutical company in their accounts department! |

davidif: It made me a much better person.
@siena Yep, keep decieving yourself, when Nigeria kids become as useless as the british kids or the american kids then you would understand. Go to an American high school and see how extremely disrespectful kids are, then you will know what i am talking about. Asians, on the other hand, know how to discipline there students and it works wonders for them. Morale of the story is another man's cake is another man's poison, realizing this is wisdom. Its not the right thing to imitate other people's livestyles or you would pay for it. so with all the caning why are there so many rogues and cultism in universities or were those the kids that didn't get caned? lets stop deceiving ourselves, there are other forms of discipline not leaving teacher who have not been paid for three months to 'discipline' children. I got abused canned in primary school for dumb things like falling down or getting a round metal stuck on my finger abuseflogging was not allowed in my secondary school, one angry teacher from fed school decide to flog students with those wooden rulers because they didn't greet him properly when he came into the class- he was sack the following week! telling students to kneel in front of the class just next to the chalkboard or outside the class should be enough punishment |

Isn't that the same reason why i suggest you take them home where your folks will be free to whip him/her at will? I mean what's the point in keeping them here, pampering and nurturing them when the chances of them being useless is very very high. There's been cases of high class surgeons that grew up in Ajegunle but you wouldn't want to risk raising your child there b/c the success rate is very low unless you count "gutter sniffing" as success. I keep hearing this, ' in this country you are not allowed to beat your children' as if that's the only way to raise a child sometimes the way they(parents/guardians0 say it; you'll feel they are looking for some 'sort' of release from the stress they are going through at work although there are no studies to show it but the way many kids are brought up in nigeria affects their life as adults, think about it in a country where parents beat their child mercilessly for playing football in their play time (usually after spending 8hours in school, three hours with a home tutor and one hour with the Arabic teacher!) or punish a three year old for colouring or doodling instead of writing a-z,1-10,000 with beautiful handwriting |

chiogo: Pheww, there we go again with the age thing! Age does not mean wisdom. I'll leave it at that. The sooner Nigerians stop thinking that they're somehow better than western countries, the better for them and Nigeria. Ofcourse I'll use myself or the people I know as example. I'm not going to say stuff I know nothing about. After all, the poster was focusing on just yoruba folks and not all Nigerians. It's your choice where you choose 2 raise your child. I'm just saying that all this 'we don't do that, we have culture in Nigeria' mentality needs to stop. I've seen worse behaviors displayed by the so-called nigerian-bred kids compared to some American kids. Where one lives is not all that matters but the people around you and the kind of upbringing your parents give you. You must think that all American or UK-bred kids are rude, which is totally false. You can go to a ghetto school here in d states and still find right-thinking people. Just like I'm sure it is in Nigeria. It's up to a kid to decide who/who not to make friends with depending on the kind of advice/teachings given to the kid at home. All these parents sending their kids to Nigeria to study while they, the parents remain abroad are all lazy. Just take up your responsibility and teach your child d way to go(it's in d bible) and when s/he grows up, s/he will not depart from it. Instead of depending on a so-called culture, which few people now practice. If this were the olden days, around d time my parents were kids, I would def. agree that Nigeria would be better to raise a kid but not in these times. Nigeria is off the chain right now! I mean, off the chain. look at where our culture has taken I think parents actually use this culture excuse to get more time for extra dollars!!! |

Foreign Affairs › Re: China Hates Black People by DisGuy: 1:47pm On Jul 23, 2008 |
ccording to Beijing Boyce, who has reported his independent findings about the SCMP claims on his blog, this might be just a case of miscommunication. Through his investigations, his sources tell him that bar owners were indeed asked to:
monitor black patrons. He [the bar owner] said the police told the reps that drug dealers are predominantly black in the area. He said the police did not ask bar owners to ban blacks.
As you can imagine, the story has spread like wildfire across blogs as well as more established media outlets. Even Shanghaiist's story was echoed verbatim on a Chinese blog. Not surprisingly though, while news outlets like The Age and Financial Times picked up the story in the context of the Beijing Olympics being "no-fun", latter commentary was less about the likelihood of Africans and Mongolians being turned away from bars but more about the SCMP's journalism.
Jeremy Goldkorn of Danwei comments:
, it seems highly unlikely that anyone with any real authority would "secretly" plan "to ban black people" from the city's bars.
The sources of the South China Morning Post are anonymous, and the paper does not seem to have any physical evidence to support the article.
Liam Fitspatrick from Time (in association with CNN) also recognises that:
The story, by Tom Miller and Peter Simpson, quotes an anonymous bar owner as saying that security officers forced him to sign a pledge that required him to prevent black people from entering his premises. A nameless “black British national” is also quoted, expressing his shock and disappointment.
The anonymity of the sources is also noticed by veteran blogger and China watcher Fons Tuinstra in the China Herald:
The proof of this was pretty flimsy: one anonymous bar-owner at Sanlitun. I found the article remarkable for two reasons. First, because of its firm anti-China tone, while the South China Morning Post had adopted (as far as I could read them) since 1997 a pro-China tone that would even be considered nauseating by the editors of the China Daily. Second, it fitted nicely into their old tradition in coming with firm allegations, based on nothing, so they could sell the next day their paper again with a firm denial of a false rumour they had created themselves in the first place. seems adding a link to stories nowadays make them 'genuine' reports |

LMAO! C'mon, get real. thats like saying stop the world isnt it? candy: It's not news that Chinese are very very racist. This story may be a western ploy to make China lose face in Africa, but behind every rumor, there is an element of truth. I have worked closely with Chinese and I have no iota of respect for them because of the impression they have about blacks and the fact that they don't see it as being racist but being careful! The earlier we kick china's ass out of naija market the better for everyone. same goes for a lot of other races including black |

Soludo has been under attack from all those who want to oust him by all means merely because he is doing his job right. Now that they are having difficulties beating him down professionally, they have resolved to misconstrue what Soludo said that was rather an honest economic statement to have ethinic connotations.
And unfortunately people are simply fanning the flames that makes this cladenstine objective worthwhile. The current administration is a northern administration. Pitting Soludo against the North might just be very effective at removing him from office, this is what this is all about. what's the point of taking it to this level? Is Soludo beyond criticism? people especially policy makers get criticised for crucial but unpopular policies and they sometimes get it wrong, people- south and north grumbled when he introduced the bank consolidation and other policies He made an honest statement- every school boy in nigeria know and see daily the media should report it whatever way they feel perhaps those governors will sit up! |
