Politics › Re: Another Slap In The Face For My Brothers "nigerians" Or Should I Say Africans? by DisGuy: 4:47am On Oct 01, 2008
Big B1:
@texazzpete:
1st, have you taken your medication?
OK.

What exactly do you know about this new development before wasting my time?

FYI: So far only two groups (one from Nigeria and the other one from South Africa) are seriously intending to purchase this football team.

So, who do you think this man (John Hall) is referring to? The Australians or the Italians?

I do not care about who bought the Liverpool, or Manchester City. It is simply foolish for one to categorize all foreign investors into the same bucket, just because of couple of bad outcomes.
It is also amusing to me that this man (John Hall) did not come out to make the same statement when Liverpool or Manchester city football team was up for sale (I guess, Africans were not the dominating investors during this sale). But all of a sudden, his beloved team (Newcastle United) is about to be owned by "AFRICANS" and here comes the old man preaching wisdom.

Give me a freaking break!
could that be because he is not the owner or the paper didn't hear his opinion which is actually widely shared by many football fans

you don't just get it

this bridge is not the responsibility of the state govt
it is not on a state road, but a federal road
the third mainland bridge is the conection from all the big people (politicians, ambassadors etc) the Island to the airport
how many big people they use onitsha bridge

let us tell ourselves the truth if that brige was in Kaduna or Kano
it would have been fixed a long time ago no tribal sentiments intended
so since big men from the region including the state government officials dont use the bridge
They wont do anything about it? (anything as in get the minister to do something urgently!!)
where is the minister from anyway-not that it matters but. . . .

Is the poster the only tribalistic person on here? I see over 95% of the responses on the topic seem to follow the same tone. The @Poster is not the only guilty party here.
but when you start a thread with rants here and there. . . .

obatoro:
This is supposed to be an important issue but you have made it so ambiguous that it has lost its relevance. If you want to talk about the Niger bridge, then talk about the Niger bridge ,if you want to talk about MASSOB talk about MASSOB, if you wan to talk about Igbo presidency then talk about it and if you want to talk about marginalization talk about it.
Your choice of words:
1.(this illiterate and wicked Hausa/Yoruba government )- an illiterate is one who could not read or write and one of the tribes you referred to as illiterate own this site.

2.(Until MASSOB start to carry arms )- are you happy with what they were doing by chasing fellow igbos out of their houses and forcefully occupying them or the harassment on fellow igbos before they were put under check?

3.(This is why i still believe that only, and i repeat, only an Igbo president will take bold steps )- presidents are supposed to be elected, you know how difficult it always is for igbos to step down for one candidate to clearly emerge.

4.(these crooks that we are caged in the same country with)- only animals live in cage and i don't believe that you are one ?

5.(No good roads, no international airport, no sea port, )- what is the governor doing about the local roads that are not motorable and the rate of filth on the streets of onitsha? let's borrow a leaf from Cross River and Akwa Ibom that is developing their own states to world class standard.

6.(and now, a bridge that will soon collapse and kill no other people than Igbo sons and daughters.)- the bridge is used by people of all tribes daily.

Let's be mindful of what w say and how we talk about our country outsiders will not come and develop it for us. we have no other country to go . East or West home is the best. I've travelled to not less than 18 countries around the world, Nigeria is still the one i love.
Nigerians are intelligent people, Nigerians are hardworking people and Nigeria is a place to be proud of. don't follow the western media to pull down your own country.

Nigeria is blessed. Happy independence!
well done!

Career › Re: After Studying Geology For 4 Years, What Next? by DisGuy: 12:06am On Sep 26, 2008
Other options

Your first job may be unrelated to your chosen career, but you can still use your time effectively in order to gain experience for your longer-term career aims. Summer placements, paid or unpaid, are particularly useful for entering specialisms such as seismology, geoscience and geophysics.

Also consider evening classes, doing an IT course, learning a new language, arranging some work shadowing or work experience and volunteering. Employers will really value the commitment and initiative you have shown to move your career forward.

Although some of the jobs listed here might not be first jobs for many graduates, they are among the many realistic possibilities with your degree, provided you can demonstrate you have the attributes employers are looking for. It's also worth noting that many graduate vacancies don't specify particular degree disciplines, so don't restrict your thinking to the jobs listed here.

@ iceland
Ur topic does not rhyme with your experience. The new passport is not a shame to nigeria simply because your picture was not clear. Your biodetails are also stored electronically together with  other security features and that makes the new passport much better than your old nigerian passport with 'clearer' picture.

The main issue will be your visa. Immigration officers really do not bother so much with your passport. Thery are only interested in knowing if you have the right visa to their country and thats where all their attention normally goes.

Raise your head Iceland. You are a proud citizen of Nigeria and a Queen! Clear passport or not!
the Main issue is not the Visa alone, The passport will Serve as an I.D not only at the airport but in banks, school etc inside and outside of Nigeria!!

can you ask for another one?

3) That he must have been frivolous with women for him to have stayed this long

If Nigeria is to move forward, The Presidency should be in the south for the next 30yrs. So that we will be able to plan very well both Politically and Economically. With these rotation of presidency, I don't know what we expect from CATTLE LEADERS huh huh huh
I've always though people fight or form alliance to get power not just command power to their region, people fight for power one way or the other not sit and expect other power hungry people to hand it over, you work for it! not run to America cos some cattle rearers are holding on to it!

why don't they plan politically and economically to get the presidency in the first place?

End this? I don't think so, or how do you stop a Surgeon, Politician, Pastor, supposedly educated people from America to stop sending money for lotteries they never played or Prince abedipele for a cut of some looted fund in a country they probably wont be able to point out on a map!

The FG should do its part though especially funding/training agencies dealing with cyber-crimes, plus have some sort of special court where cases are not delayed will help!
There should be minimum jail terms or fines for fraudsters with an online database for convicted criminals!

it would also help if more gullible Americans come out openly to say they have been scammed and how, so Interpol can convict people oh and they should also be online database with picture for these gullible groups too

A Minna-based Islamic scholar and educationist, Alhaji Yabagi Alfa, has enjoined the Muslim ummah to exercise restraint and patience in whatever they do, especially in the defence of their religion.
Islam › Re: Bida Youth Protesters Want Man With 86 Wives To Be Put To Death by DisGuy: 3:14am On Sep 24, 2008
In Bida, after the youths had embarked on the peaceful demonstration carrying placards with inscriptions such as, “Massaba must die”, “Bello is not a Muslim”, “Bello must vacate Bida town”, ended up at the Bida local government secretariat to exhibit their anger to the chairman of the council who was represented by his vice, Alhaji Bako Ndayawo
now that's funny!!! grin grin

Association of Muslim Lawyers of Nigeria
Lead counsel to the Coalition of Human Rights, Mohammed Sanusi
why aren't these people considered Muslim leaders? its very convenient to assume only
bearded mallams as Muslim clerics/leaders isnt it?

There are several articles online and media about the 'spiritual leader'
preaching peaceful co-existance in nigeria and so on, but i think its about time
he/they actually start speaking in their language considering these street urchins
don't go anywhere near newspapers or internet, they act on hearsay and rumours!

ITS A GOOD MOVE AND I PRAY THEY GET ALL IT TAKES TO BUY THE CLUB, EPL IS A GOOD PLACE TO INVEST MONEY BECAUSE IRRESPECTIVE OF HOW SMALL YOUR TEAM CAN BE, PEOPLE WILL STILL TURN OUT TO COME TO THE STADIUM TO WATCH THE CLUB'S MATCHES NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE PLAYING WITH, you know how much Arsenal is currently making from the sales of tickets every weekhuh, if you know, then you will agree with me that EPL is a good business to invest in,
and do you know how much they spend on wages, security, academy and so on? I think Arsenal is the only or one of the few clubs operating like a normal business at the moment considering the annual debt and profit profile

another problem is Newcastle is a small club but the fans dont realise this so apart from shopping for £50-£100m they have to shop for another £100m to bring in world class players yea right! just to keep the fans happy, you dont want them bringing their protest to abuja do you? grin grin

vigasimple:
The other major problem is that this 'arrangement' is solely PDP and that is what is worrisome about it.

Suppose another party took office and decide not to respect that 'arrangement' and I am convinced that the North will try to go back on that arrangemnt by trying to elect another Northerner via another party. I hope and prayed for the sake of all good Nigerians that I am proved wrong.

My own proposal would be that for the sake of completeness, South south in 2015-2023, then north central (or whichever of the north that has not ruled Nigeria) and then south east afterwards OR EVEN 4 YEARS INSTEAD OF 8 YEARS ( WHICHEVER PARTY IN POWER) and then everything reset on merit but under no circumstances that a particular region must select a president for two consecutive period as the North will manipulate it as usual.

Also with the greatest of respect to South East, there are two things I suggest they do before their time comes. (1.) rally round one good leader for them to present (2). deal with Biafran question. You either choose to lead and your man be President of Nigeria or just keep talking of Biafra. I personally noted injustices to the Igbo's but so also are injustices to the South south and the south west. Our brothers from the North are master political game player and we have to be able to make them to play fair otherwise they will continue to use divide and rule on the rest of Nigerians.
Still miffed by the assumptions that the north is this revered region that always gets its way when it comes to nigeria. If the north goes back to the arrangement will they be doing that on their own without the role of the other region they will eventually agree to rotate with? if other regions decide not to play ball with the rotation and they lose what will they do; call for a break up??

with greatest respect to all regions shouting marginalisation, I think its an insult to Nigerian considering the fact they are also part of the Ruling party!!! After several years the politicians from these regions have not been able to reach an agreement to get favourable policies that will improve the social-economic standing of these states. you certainly cant criticise something you have been part of especially when you are not looking to form your own alliance or party to speak on your behalf!
