IncaGold:
Most people are getting this thing mixed up! Nothing, i mean nothing should have stopped them from retracting or apologising in order to set the records straight. If he doesn't like celebrating his birthday that aint any business of mine, knowing the date wont transform Nigeria overnight, but it just shows the kind of president we have, very slow and unresponsive.
who is 'them'? he didn't put out any advert for himself did he?
unresponsive to what exactly? You think he is checking the newspaper for his celebrity ratings?
you should be telling those sycophants to resign for spending state money for advert
come o how come the newspapers editors themselves didn't even tell their customers to hold on?
not-bovvered!

i'll be in lagos in October to meet up with an oil firm, they called me for a Manager in Training position due to start in December. I have no idea what manager-in-training means but i'll sure find out on my week long visit in lagos.
While i was visiting naija in March my uncle advised me to move back and he asked for my CV, he forwarded it to his companie's HR dept, a week later they called me and informed me about the position. There's no interview involved because it's kind of a hook up thing, i'm simply meeting with them

Here's the deal: i'm a mechanical engineer in the US, been working for 2 years now and the pay is good. I don't mind moving back but what should i expect from a naija company, i don't want to ask for too much and i don't want to sell myself short. what should i expect as per salary and in benefits?
are salaries in nigeria negotiable? i know the the middle/ top level of financial coy they can be but as a trainee manager/manager-in-training i doubt it, I think you should ask your uncle for the going rate

Good luck
Politics › Re: Why Is The Eastern Region The Only Region Without An Airport? by DisGuy: 5:15am On Jul 16, 2008
what role does the local governors/senators play in all these? seems they enjoy flying to Lagos or Abuja before they travel
or they don't even live in these regions anyway so they cant be bothered, shouting marginalisation is not enough!
you have representatives don't you? what did Odili,(Nnamani, Orji Kalu) do apart from playing footsie with the previous government?

the way SE senators and reps throw themselves about I wonder if they've ever been/lived the region they claim to represent undecided

Business › Re: Tansport Biz:your Pains and gains by DisGuy: 2:32am On Jul 14, 2008
I think the transport business is very easy to get into, it would appear most people in nigeria dont really have a business plan per say and most recruitment is done informally so the people always maon with one driver or mechanic problem

so tell us what sort of problem do people come to you about?
I'm interested in this business
Business › Re: Fish Farming Business by DisGuy: 9:53pm On Jul 13, 2008
Considering the amount of people going into farming in nigeria-SW especially, is the business still profitable or what effect does this have on your profit for those already into the business?

For those already in the business what other related products or service do you offer, do you grow crops on you land or something else?

on two plots of land for example do you fence it off, like a warehouse with workers coming in and out or is this usually incorporated into your building/houses or are they open fields?

Career › Re: Back To Nigeria After Medical School? by DisGuy: 9:05pm On Jul 13, 2008
Now why would you want to do that?

the main reason why you went to medical school is to use your knowledge to better the society AND YOURSELF to the best of your ability, you don't really want to work in an environment where you won't be able to give your all due to this or that- usually very trivial mundane issues

you'll see many people saying after their education they are going back immediately, its a lie except they are on scholarship or some sort of employment already, even on here-nairaland!! I see people changing stories about doing a further degree or taking advantage of the two year work experience, some even pull their partners along!!

Make sure you work get experience and save loads of money, its good to go back but not with a certificate alone!!!

Politics › Re: President Yar'adua Should Resign! by DisGuy: 6:15pm On Jul 11, 2008
oh please you have been banging on about how people are not doing this or that, i'm talking about nigeria not katsina, i dont know anything about the state

the only thing you came up with is some ridiculous 6months presidency with you hyperventilating all over the forum about how daft Nigerians are allowing this and that you've not been able to come up with anything realistic about the way forward considering the peculiar nature of the country. every solution according to you; seems to be simple and straight forward like you've applied them before

Again, that idea that people assume when you are put in to do a job, you are expected to do magic, is not held by me and most definitely not all persons.
coming from someone advocating for 6moths+ presidency, erm I think so!!

now answer the questions debosky raised in his post!
Is he the problem or something else? If he is removed, are there institutions in place that can credibly midwife the emergence of a candidate of the people?
can Pat Utomi, Emeka Anyako*, Donald Duke solve the transport, education or power problems in 6months?

and before you rope me into on of your merry go round argument. I'M OUT!!!!

peace

Kobojunkie:
Just as Appalling. Barely much of a difference if you ask me, and for 8 years, I have to conclude he did terrible work as governor.

Only one who has never been to or seen Lagos prior, or someone who just wants to argue blindly would argue such.
I say you at least ask Lagosians of what the difference is before reaching such a conclusion.

Like I posted earlier, even Hitler gets applause from some in different regions. Does that then make him a good leader?? You fail the answer the main questions.
perhaps you are only looking at the physical nature of things not the SYSTEM IN PLACE ALREADY which to be honest is one of the most important things to get anything done in that country.

you dont just put people in a system and expect them to work magic
i noticed you skipped these questions like the pro you are

debosky:
Removing Yar'adua for what reason? Who will take over from him given the messed up political system you have in place?

Is he the problem or something else? If he is removed, are there institutions in place that can credibly midwife the emergence of a candidate of the people?

Some are advocating get him out of office? How exactly is that going to work? Impeachment? How long does the average impeachment take? a year? 2 years? Will the people in the house of reps and co go along with such a plan?

Removing Yar'adua will achieve little or nothing, what needs to be done is to examine the systems that produced him (if he is defective that is) and start the corrections from there. If not, you'll repeat the same mistake again.

You CAN'T logistically swap leaders every 6 months - you need party primaries, conventions, election campaigns, printing of ballot papers, etc - each time wasting huge amounts of money while the economy lies essentially comatose in the intervening period - that will never work.

I'd rather advocate for a single term of 5 years, proper strengthening of anti-corruption agencies to prevent looting as much as possible and genuine reform of the electoral system. A flawed system will most times produce a flawed product.

Politics › Re: President Yar'adua Should Resign! by DisGuy: 5:32pm On Jul 11, 2008
Sorry to burst your bubble here but I have seen Katsina, and I was appalled. I expected a sight worth writing home about but met with the usual eyesore here and there. The touted Health system was less than what I had read of in some papers praising the man.
How was the state before he was governor?

The Current Lagos State Governor has done a job 100 times better in 1 year than Yar adua was able to do in Katsina in 8 years. So again, enough with the “PLEDGE to Mediocrity”, can you please start believing you deserve better as a Nigerian??
one can argue he is building on the foundation laid by the previous governor over a period of eight years wink
after all that is what government is about-correcting previous mistakes and building on past successes

Blu Malam:
I can swear all the people that say Yar'adua did not perform as governor have not been to kaduna, not to talk of katsina state. Look, if Yar'adua serves for EIGHTY years, he cannot do as much damage that obasanjo did.

This man is so internationally respected (check out the recent G8 summit) and tell me, which past president has ever attempted an electoral reform of an entity that produced him (INEC). C'mon guys, cut Musa some slack.

Politics › Re: Why Is The Eastern Region The Only Region Without An Airport? by DisGuy: 11:58pm On Jul 09, 2008
iseobio:
the issue is not about having an international airport in enugu or not. The pertinent question is, will the nigerian governemnt allow parallel flights from this enugu airport (assuming it is international) to all destinations in the world as currently operated from lagos, abuja, PH and kano? Enugu may become an international airport with little or no flights or may be flights only from african countries. this is thesame situatiion calabar airport is in. it was given international airport status because of EPZ but I tell you it only has flights from african countries. no flights from outside africa. I think there is a great injustice in the first place considering the population of nigeria. i always get so frustrated when travelling from Lagos Airport because of the crowd. Anytime anm travelling it is a nightmare. EWvery zone should haave an international airport and more where there are a lot of business activities going on.

I think what Enugu requires is not only international status but should be made to handle cargo as well like Kano.
i think you people should ask proper questions, do you really think its the FG that choose the number of flights or what sort of flight goes to a particular place?

and lets be honest not all business need nternational airports, very soon maiduguri will be asking for one becos they trade alot of cows!!!!
we have some upto 22 airport with only 4 commercially viable at the moment, we should upgrade those that have the potential so when traffic grows they can easily be converted to international status when the time comes

Fashion › Re: Skin Toning Cream by DisGuy: 9:43am On Jul 09, 2008
The long term effects of using skin lightening products
Hydroquinone or Mercury applied to the skin will react with ultra violet rays and re-oxidise, leading to more pigmentation and premature ageing. More product is then applied in an attempt to correct the darker blotchy appearance.

These are the beginnings of a vicious cycle. By altering the skins natural structure and inhibiting the production of Melanin, it’s natural protection, the skin is more susceptible to skin cancer.

Prolonged use of Hydroquinone will thicken collegen fibres damaging the connective tissues. The result is rough blotchy skin leaving it with a spotty cavier appearance.

Mercury will slowly accumulate within the skin cells striping the skin of it’s natural pigment leaving behind the tell tale signs of gray/ blue pigmentation in the folds of the skin. In the long term the chemical will damage vital organs and lead to liver and kidney failure and mercury poisoning.
