Coordinated protests on a national scale...

Someone's in the boiler room letting this fester..

Sympathetic to the need for reform within the Police and other paramilitary agencies.

But there's more to this than meets the eye.

Wow. Rest in peace papa. You have done well in your lifetime.
Say hello to your good friend —Chinua Achebe.

And accept condolences from we the family of Prof. Wole Soyinka

On this day, after a little tension between Prof. W.S and Prof J.p. C, the trio put aside their differences and paid Gen. Ibrahim Babangida a visit to demand the release of the soon-to-be executed poet, soldier,
and childhood friend of the De facto Head of state —Mamman Vatsa

They all returned from the meeting in a joyful mood as they screamed their way in the car on their way out.

However, Babangida's promise to the trio was a pseudo promise as Vatsa was promptly tried and executed

From the Nigerian perspective,

1. Delay in getting to a good hospital sometimes can have an impact on mortality or morbidity

2. Then there are the rare complications like amniotic fluid embolism ( please don't Google for it, it's awful)

3. Also some women don't book their pregnancies on time, and as a result conditions that would have been caught on time are missed

4. Then there is the comorbidity like sickle cell anemia, diabetes , asthma , etc that can make childbearing risky

Most common cause of maternal mortality in sub-saharan Africa is PPH - excessive bleeding at birth, sometimes related to Pre-eclampsia/ DIC.

My uncle was kidnapped from his farm in the village.
My friend was kidnapped on his way driving to Lagos... my friends dad was kidnapped from his house.

Out of those 3 people, only my uncle returned home.
It is never the victims fault for being a victim. There is no justification on God’s earth to rape, coerce or force a woman for sex. There’s no reason to kidnap or kill or rob... please let’s learn to stand for what is right.

The only reason that port Harcourt serial killer was able to get away with murdering women for so long was because people like you blamed the victims and called them “stay queens”. Often saying things like “slay queen got slayed”. That man ended the lives of so many women after raping and torturing them and most people blamed the victims.

When I was discussing it with my then girlfriend, her comment was, “what did they go to look for in hotel”.
That comment was a representation of the average Nigerian mindset.

I’m just grateful I’ve been liberated from mental oppression because I legit used to think like those people in my teenage years but I was able to start seeing the light when I approached my 20s and the older I get, the wiser and more liberated I become.

My goal is to help others see the light I found!

Accept my sympathy for the events that befell your friend & your friend's father..I'm not sure if its the same family.

Though episodes of kidnaps have risen in farms, the risks depending on location, surrounding vigilante, economic situation amongst others are still not very high.

My piece of advice to any young woman is to ask her to think very deeply before putting herself in harm's way. You can threaten all the legal action you want, but the crime can not be undone even if you're lucky to get redress which is very uncommon in the current climate in this part of the world.

However, the below need to be addressed......

Yes to education of both sexes( cis- and trans-) about the laws according to rape... As I've observed often misappropriation of the term once one party feels aggrieved.

Yes to enforcing the laws

Yes to protecting the victims

Yes to shaming false accusers

Yes to spreading information about situations that often lead onto rape.

And also the man get harassed government and individuals need to work hand in hand to curb this.

There should be opportunities when lecturers can shame girls who openly offer sex for grades.

And like in most places of worship, there's a set decorum regarding manners of dressing and comportment...

For the false accusers, there should be naming and shaming. So this deters women/ men from choosing an ignoble route if dissatisfied with a clearly transactional arrangement.

Maybe then some of these cases will start to decline....and true victims can be properly helped.

We also need to stop the culture of victim blaming.

No matter the circumstance, it’s never a victims fault for the trauma that befell them. It’s just like blaming the victim of kidnapping for getting kidnapped. Let’s be guided in our thoughts and utterances.

To that I say....

If you knowingly go to a high crime-laden area dripping in diamonds and gold apparel, then you're partly responsible for any criminal attack...

As much as my sympathy goes to the victims of crime, it is alarming, the levels of irresponsibility brimming on stuuuupidity exhibited by some people, who then proceed to display victim mentality after spinning the story on its head.

Caveat... I accept that there will cases where there was a lack of knowledge with people placing themselves inadvertently in harm's way.. In addition, I condemn robustly pedophillic rape..a very real scourge in this society.

DRC is the biggest of French countries, and they go to SA. Same with Rwanda, Burundi and Cameroon.

Mozambique and Angola go to SA, they are neighbours. That's the biggest Portuguese countries.

Nigerians in their thousands move all the way from West Africa to go all the way South. Imagine what the smaller countries think.

Most English speaking countries go to SA because the borders are not too tight, only a few people can get into Europe.

I still don't accept your theory.

That's an exaggeration, a big one ...

Francophile Africans would prefer France.
Likely the Portuguese speaking Africans would aim for Europe..

Geographically, that's less than half.

Anglophile Africans would consider SA if other options( The US, Europe,Mid-East and Far East) aren't available...

So your theory doesn't stand!!

Leave him to write his long essays, it's therapy for him, no South African will give him the time of day on the streets.

A football club will deal with a footballer who misbehaves outside the stadium, even if the player is on holiday.

the Navy which is a SECURITY OUTFIT is washing it's hands from a murder case by it's own people.... why? because some were not in uniform and not on official
s.

This is a criminal investigation on civilian land. I can understand the Navy not wanting to interfere as it remains the job of the Police force to investigate and prosecute..

The football club you mentioned above, did not investigate nor sentence the footballer, did they? They only suspended him due to the disrepute his actions brought to the club.

Something similar should be done by the Navy once the full investigation is completed.

Regarding a payout to the family, that's improbable, as these acts were not carried out as a Naval exercise or within its territory as you sometimes find with historic indiscriminate use of force within army barracks. They may decide to be benevolent but are NOT responsible, IMHO.

Romance / Re: How To End Yahoo Fraud In Nigeria Permanently by doeeyed: 10:06am On Sep 08, 2020
Seneca's proposed method may work for the low level yahoo boy, unfamiliar with the regular necessity of settling the law enforcers and neighborhood vigilante. But the big Dons are often beyond this "reach".

I propose the following in addition...

**Diverting funds into sustainable community development projects after restitution to original victims if traceable, is an additional method.
People will snitch if there's a possibility of their lives being improved by that money often flexxed about. Crab-like mentality abounds everywhere. The 5% snitch-fee brought in earlier in this administration, is a testament. What ever happened to the Ikoyi heist, I often wonder!!!

**But the endemic corruption has to be dealt with, in a consistent transparent fashion. That's where a bottleneck may ensue. Visible examples of corrupt officials have to be made after due diligence, given the intrinsic corruption see in the justice system.

**Simplifying government protocols with e-processing is currently helping... It cuts off the incessant bribes to move papers/files from table to table, previously office to office. ... At the lowest microcosm.

**Having regular visible updates on completed welfare / infrastructure packages, on different arms of government.

**Nothing irritates like flamboyant ceremonies to celebrate the beginning of a project that might lay uncompleted for years/decades. Increased accountability on the part of our public officials, has to be demanded.

**Having direct social welfare/ benevolent packages or access at all levels of government from senators, house of rep members (centrally) governors, state reps to local councillors. ...
These are in use already but largely for personal interests- sustenance of personal armies of miscreants --... Definitely not in a transparent manner..

This particular principle is the underpinning reason for the success of religion holding a large populace, shackled ---- giving me little fish rather than teaching me how to fish!!! ...You see this style of leadership with some popular musicians.

**Reeducating the young ones is a definite urgent must-do. I find alarming that young sec school leavers are being indoctrinated in to the yahoo culture- pictures of uniformed school children buying iphones for the school principal/ teacher - I haven't confirmed the veracity of these reports, but the visible undertones is frightening.

It reminds me of when children were forced to be guerrilla soldiers in conflict areas or to be drug/ weapon mules, eventually adopting active roles in the drug trade.... We really, as a nation, don't want to chart those frontiers particularly on the net.

** Reviving our vocational schools. The economic success of some Eastern Europeans in UK was underpinned by their vocational skills. It was mandatory to learn a skill in high school. This proved invaluable as it allowed them entry into a job area that was underserved ...... whilst waiting to get through professional exams to allow for practice of their original university degrees.

We need to start a step at a time, increase our conscionable objections to this growing status quo and effect consistent change.

1. This is an ongoing litigation and court process that we must see through in our favour and if you actually read, the judge said Nigeria acted reasonably well and there's a strong prima facie case of fraud on the part of P&ID.

2. The main reason for challenging the J&ID is to have the judgement and liability against Nigeria vacated, not to just sit like muimu. accept the judgement and write a check to J&ID.

3. Win or lose, not challenging court cases and judgements against you especially when you have a strong case against the judgement is irresponsible, it's reckless and total abdication of duty.

4. Not challenging such cases is inviting and giving go ahead other poachers and corrupt elements to swindle, doop you and take you to court because they know you are mumu and won't challenge them

5. What if at the end of the case they ruled in our favour and we don't have to pay 1 kobo? Are you still going to be insulting and calling us illiterates?

We are not illiterates because only illiterates roll over like mumu and write checks without challenging the fraudulent acts behind the payments.

Be patriotic and stand up for your own country and her efforts for a change because you made zero sense.

AhmedEmeka:

Nice insight, I like the legal angle being suggested so far from other comments.

I gave it a second thought; to thinking what if she was honest about her request and motive, I try to be always there for my friends. But as someone here pointed out we are way pass friendship but in an undefined relationship (which I believe he is spot on) as such that changes everything.

Not down with co-parenting at the moment, I believe I would stick with your first option.

Any pointers to look out for when defining the relationship and can we honestly go back to being just friends (she said I shouldn't be selfish when defining it).

If the 1st option is your choice..
Follow the rules of sperm donation..
May sound brutal but will leave no opportunity for future poor behavior.

That means no contact by her or child.

Now you need to get your due diligence done and check your family lineage. There are family taboos that are often hidden in annals of oral history.

Wouldn't want you to have to break the rules, if all your offspring have to be accounted for under special circumstances.... Forgive me--- watching too many nollywood films.

Coming back to contact, I suspect that might be a little difficult given you are both open to the FWB format. That in my opinion if you really don't like her is a warning sign.. Women aren't designed for casual sex as observed in men despite the feminism BS hanging around..

She'll soon look to validate her quest to tie/marry you once an offspring is in the picture except you're really firm with her.

If she's looking for a donor, the FWB option wont be available or heavily frowned at.

Think deeply on this before proceeding.
