FamilyRe: Breastfeeding In Public: My Experience In A Public Vehicle by Donald3d(m):

No. She shouldn't be forced. Not everyone is comfortable revealing their bosom in public.

If you are the kind of mother who is shy to breastfeed in public, have some milk in a large feeding bottle, and place it in a flask with warm water, to keep it warm . If your baby is a "premium baby" grin , have two bottles. This should solve the problem .

I know some people might suggest the body cover , but its very uncomfortable. Imagine a baby under that thing in a hot danfo bus...Even in an air-conditioned car, its still not comfortable.

A 4yrs old? No pls she's too young. Get her an age-appropriate gadget. Better still, why not buy her a Lego, or buildingblocks or even jigsaws. All those can improve a child's intellectual capacity and help stimulate logical reasoning. A phone won't do that.
There are educational games too, there are educational animations, not saying physical hand-held toys are bad, they are important too.
Whether we like it or not, technology is here to stay, its the future, the earlier the better, with proper guidance
FamilyRe: Is It Proper For A Four Year Old Child To Own A Phone? by Donald3d(m):

The problem is not the tool, its what the person does with the tool

I see nothing wrong with introducing children to devices early, but you have to do it cautiously and guide them.

I got introduced to technology since I was a baby, and I mean that literally. There were gadgets everywhere, although they were not smart phones, they didn't exist then. But whats most important here, is that they were tools.

What matters is what the tools are used for. Today I can do almost anything you can think of with computers, I mean anything, I just need to set my mind to it.

People who tell parents not to give their kids smartphones, play disgusting songs with foul language and tell their kids to dance to it, some of you buy water guns and toy guns for your kids. Which is more damaging in the long run ?.

Proper guidance is the best way to train kids, give them a tool and let them experiment very early, the right tools, with proper leadership.

Proper leadership in this case, is "do as I do" , not "do as I say" . Set a good example, not just in your words, but in your actions.

The developer does not know his worth. Know thy Worth son of man.
I do know my worth, but for people working in a company setting, its harder for them, especially those dependent on 9-5 jobs.
Most people take what they can get, because they don't know when next they would get that opportunity, or they manage what they have before they get something better.
I think the guy was an intern at the time, but its still very unfair pocketing millions for a job that you made no direct effort in executing and paid the person who had sleepless nights 30k !

Okay I'll do well to change cos I can price for Africa. But most people will overbill you especially you they sense you don't know d price.
I bargain prices of stuff too, but there is a point where it becomes unreasonable, especially when you can afford it and the VALUE is worth the price you are being charged, especially for services. Its easier to place a price tag on products and bargain as much as you want , reasonably of course. But for services, consider the persons effort, time, resources used and the VALUE you are getting from it. That's what OP is trying to say, not that you should completely stop bargaining

Good observation

But don't over do it cos people will see u as mumu and take advantage of u .
I have learnt something very important in life, very important :

All you have to do is the good and right thing, what the receiver of your action does or how they treat you back is not relevant. Spread goodness and compassion, that's what counts. Your deeds are more important than what is done to you, because whether you believe it or not, good or bad, you would get your reward in multiple folds according to your deeds and intentions.
FamilyRe: Why Is It That Nigerians Dont Respect Each Others Time And Labor by Donald3d(m): 12:13pm On Jun 10, 2020
Nigerians are very good at under-pricing labor and effort , trust me, dem full here for Nairaland

One said he wanted an e-commerce website job done , to be built from scratch , this would take me like 2 months at least, baba said his budget was 20k, I asked him if he meant 200k (even though this is still small for the detail he wanted), he typed it in full "Lol, I mean twenty thousand Naira oo "

I have plenty stories like this, one wanted an android app and wanted to pay 3k, I kid you not, job of at least 2-3 months grin grin and he was serious !!!

I charged another one for an app of 4 months or so, he asked me if we wanted to buy land , insinuating that "is it not ordinary app" .

This is why almost everything around us is mediocre, most Nigerians don't understand the value of things, the annoying thing is, some so called wealthy people also do this.

An average developer in other countries, earns nothing less than $15k-$50k per month. Those are people who understand value.

I heard of a Nigerian tech company, the man collected millions for a project and paid the developer that did the job, if I remember well, 30k !!!! ... Some people will not make heaven in this life, no be curse.

This is why I chose to go freelance, I can choose who I work with. No matter how broke I may be, if the amount you want to pay isn't worth the stress, I politely turn you down...I learnt the hard way that the cheap people are always the most problematic...And its like that every where, cheap people have a very nauseating sense of entitlement. One client was even threatening me after I did much more than the client paid for even after I did other free extra work on top of the work and stress that wasn't even worth the price paid, just so I can keep a good name .

SIDE NOTE: If you work freelance, or provide any service, ALWAYS have a signed agreement of the list of features and price to be paid, if you think only service providers are dishonest, think again, some customers are scammers too, they would lay claims to something that was never agreed upon, for the same cheap price.

We can do better. All this acts stem from selfishness and self-centeredness . We need to become more selfless and put ourselves in other peoples shoes, "If it was me, would I like to be treated this way " ?

No you don't need to buy software....It depends on the software you need . Nowadays a lot of software are free. As a programmer you would hardly buy any, I may be wrong though.

But in most cases, there is always a free alternative .

Thanks. But my understanding is that, I would need to buy softwares online if I went for a macbook. Is it really so?

please do

We almost had a "fight" with IBEDC officials today.
Every month they keep increasing the bill, yet power keeps getting worse. Its very annoying.

The entire power sector should be privatized. Look at what happened in the telecom sector, competition has forced them to render better and cheaper services over time.

Fix power in Nigeria and see the economy pick up.

The Nigerian government likes being penny wise, pound foolish, just to extort the average Nigerian .

As a work-from-home programmer , I can just imagine how much I would have spent on fuel if I didn't wake up on time to get an inverter .

How can I be paying for something that is almost non-existent

Whatever you do, if you would be running a serious business or site, I would encourage you to go for an international hosting company.
Not trying to bash Nigerian hosting companies, but they give you less features for almost the same amount of money international companies charge.

I would recommend namecheap

Maybe you would check the internal structure of sum();

Now matter how advance you’re in programming, no one ever evade loop
You are being unnecessarily analytical, in the real world nobody cares about the internal structure of things, your result is what matters.
Why re-inventing the "internal structure", when it has already been done for you.

If you look under the hood, everything has an internal structure, so should we start re-inventing all of them ?

A good programmer keeps things as simple as possible, as long as the result is the same and it doesn't affect performance.

Besides, I never said loops are bad, I use them practically everyday. My point is in some cases there are faster ways to do things than using loops directly.
ProgrammingRe: Pls Explain This For Me by Donald3d(m): 1:43pm On Jun 07, 2020
stanliwise:
I don’t think there is a better way other than loop. Loop is the backbone of working with collections. It can be decorated to what we call iteration and the rest but the inner structure remains a loop.
I know loops are great but as one goes on in programming, you would have to find quicker ways to solve problems .

Something as simple as sum() would sum up the scores, depending on the data type or origin.

Good day nairalanders, I started learning Python some weeks ago and I'm kinda having problems in understanding 'loop'.

Like what is it used for
What situation do we need to use it

Pls can someone help me out, it's really drawing me back
Imagine you are trying to fill a bucket with a bowl, taking water from a big drum .
You would keep scooping from the drum with the bowl until the bucket is full.
So a loop is a repetitive action until the aim is achieved, once the aim is achieved, the action (in this case, filling the bucket) is terminated.

This is a layman simplified real-world explanation .

In coding, an example where it can be used is :

For example you have a system where you want to sum up all the scores of all the courses a student does :
You can loop through all the scores and keep adding it up until its done .

Although there are better ways of adding this up instead of using a loop, but that's one way you can use it.
