Politics / Re: Jibrin Links Omisore To Budget Padding Controversy by donodion(m): 11:37am On Aug 15, 2016
Osyabj:
Embattled former House of Representatives Appropriation Committee Chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin has linked Senator Iyiola Omisore with the budget padding controversy.

Omisore, who represented Osun East, was the chairman of the seventh Senate’s Appropriation Committee.

On Omisore’s role, he said: “His godfather is Senator Iyiola Omisore. During the build up to the appointment of committee chairmen, I had a terrible disagreement with him (Dogara). While in London, before the appointment of committee chairmen, Jibrin claimed that Dogara “pleaded with me to join him at a house in London. I went and I saw him seated very comfortably with Senator Omisore. It was there he said he was going to appoint me as chairman, Appropriations and I should be reporting to Omisore

“I was completely shocked. A nice lunch was served; we ate and we left. At least, there are CCTVs in London. I confided in a highly-placed person who I wouldn’t want to mention his name. He advised me to remain calm and concentrate on my job. My refusal to comply with such questionable instructions largely accounted for the anger of Mr. Speaker towards me.

“It was much later that I realised that Senator Omisore had adopted Speaker Dogara as a godson since their days as Chairman Appropriations and House Services in the sixth Assembly respectively.”

Jibrin also accused Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal of not supporting his appointment as Appropriations Committee chairman.

Make Jibrin a state witness with beneficial conditions and more beans would be spilled. My respect to this Jibrin guy keep leaping higher and higher. He is bold and have all his ducks lined up in a row, with hard-line facts and evidences.
Imagine the likes of omisore could still be throwing weights around at NASS at the detriment of the nation?

Somatic:
Lalasticlala come and see snake that looks like Tonto Dike O!

Today, I was at my shed minding my business and trying to prevent the devil from rumpling my destiny when at exactly 3:13pm, I received a call. The frenzied voice at the other end, my mother's. She claimed the FRSC then stationed a few meters to her home were holding her on her inability to produce for them, her warning triangle and her triangle extinguisher. I tried my best to guide her towards where the items were kept, however she succeeded in getting out the triangle sans extinguisher.

Drove to the scene with a colleague to discover that they have let her go. Only after booking her irreversibly and seizing her license accordingly. My much calmer colleague pleaded that they reverse the charge bearing in mind that it was done in error. They admitted the error but turned to blame their error on my mum's inability to know the whereabouts of her particulars. I asked if any of them if they helped her search, seeing she couldn't get it. Instead, one Emmanuel Baka said my mother annoyed him by sitting in the car and making calls instead of getting out to beg.

Called mum to come back to scene to confirm their claims. She asked them to their face to deny that she begged them, each and every one. She begged that she leave the car with them and walk home to seek out the 'truant extinguisher'. She begged they allow me come before taking action. She used every old lady sentiment on them. And yet they didn't budge. The Emmanuel guy said the charge is irreversible and she has to pay. His "consolation", rather than pay within the two week ultimatum, my mum has "an extended grace period" of 1 month to pay the fine or get charged to court. Meanwhile her driver's license had been seized already. I ranted and raved. Mum and colleague begged and pleaded. FRSC Maraban Jos Kaduna unit did not budge. Apparently TGIF returns does cloud proper sense of reasoning and judgement. The amount(3,000) is not much. How ever, the unfairness and injustice of it all..... I can't explain. He even threatened to add obstruction of duty to the already existing charges if we do not leave his presence. And yours truly dared him to.

Meanwhile right before them, a bad driver was reported and an accident occurred. Unofficial PRO Emmanuel Baka maintained that first they are mandated not to act on citizen information, and the accident was "not within his jurisdiction". So extortion is within his jurisdiction, I queried. I do not know if the uniform by Nigerian law enforcement provides cover for all sorts of impunity. However, if it is so, through this platform, Emmanuel Baka and FRSC Birnin Yero Unit, Maraban Jos and their likes may learn the proper use of the uniform on their backs and the office that they hold.

Op.. thanks for identifying few of those FRSC officiala invokved.

Crime / Re: Franca Asemota Extradited To UK For Girls Trafficking by donodion(m): 4:31pm On Aug 04, 2016
dridowu:
Franca Asemota, 38, smuggled girls and young women via Heathrow
She promised them a better life but then threatened them into sex trade
Footage showed her smirking as she was extradited from Nigeria to the UK
She is facing jail after being found guilty of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic people into sexual exploitation

A female people smuggler who forced dozens of teenage orphans into prostitution and slavery using the threat of witchcraft is facing jail.

Franca Asemota, known to her victims as 'Auntie Franca', used Heathrow as a hub to traffic at least 40 girls and young women into Europe from remote Nigerian villages.

The 38-year-old promised them jobs, education and a better life, then used 'witchcraft', threats and violence to force them in to the European sex trade.

Her gang even managed to snatch back two girls who had been rescued and put in in foster care in Worthing, West Sussex.

Today, Asemota, originally from Benin City, Nigeria, was found guilty of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic people into sexual exploitation by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court.

The trafficking first came to light when Border Agency officials stopped two groups, in September and November 2011, travelling on false passports.
Although she was not arrested at the time, Asemota's ticket had been booked at the same time, at the same travel agent in Lagos, and she was sat next to the group on the plane.

Investigators then linked Asemota to at least six other 'successful trafficking trips' and the kidnapping of two girls who had been placed in foster care on the south coast.
Paul Cabin, prosecuting, previously told the court how three victims were first stopped at Heathrow in September, 2011, and a further two were also to give detailed accounts of the smuggling.

They all traveled on fake passports that claimed they were over the age of 18.

Mr Cabin said: 'They all came from remote Nigerian villages and had all been told that they were going to be educated, trained and employed in France.

'They all had difficult histories - for example, some were orphans. One was a runaway from an attempted forced marriage.

'They and their families and guardians are told that educational and work opportunities exist in Europe for them.

'Initially, therefore, the girls go with the gang voluntarily.

'Their compliance from that point on is secured by a mixture of threats, to themselves and their families back in their villages, the use of 'Ju-Ju' rituals and sexual violence, including in one case rape.'

He added: 'All but one reported at the time that they had been trafficked by a female who accompanied them on the aircraft from Lagos, known variously as Auntie Franca or Violet.'

It was only when they had traveled 'a long way from their villages were they told they were really destined for a life of prostitution,' he said.

The 'successful' trips all took place within a few months of each other at the end of 2011, and involved 40 victims.

Asemota was identified as a main suspect in 2012 but fled back to her home nation when some of her co-conspirators were arrested, believing British justice would not catch up with her.

Investigators spent around three years trying to locate Asemota until the National Crime Agency successfully tracked her down to Nigeria on March 25, 2015.

She was arrested by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission in Benin City in March 2015 and extradited to Britain.

A video shows her chuckling in custody and smirking as she is led into a van destined to bring her back to the UK to stand trial.
Asemota was located after two girls, who had been placed with foster parents in 2012 in Worthing by the immigration authorities, were kidnapped.

Mr Cabin said: 'They settled in well and both went to a nearby secondary school.

'They had both been detained at HMP Bronzefield after their arrests and may have met each other there, but obviously from this point on they were in close contact and became friends.

'On April 6, 2012, both girls were reported missing by their foster carers..'

Both panned to go shopping but switched off their phones and failed to return home.

Five days later one was returned to the UK from Spain after travelling on a fake passport and taken into care.

In interview the girl explained that on the day of their disappearance her friend had been taking a lot of phone calls before they were picked up by two men in a car.

One of these men was Odosa Usiobaifo, who is currently serving a 14-year prison sentence after being jailed in 2013.

They were ordered to memorise their new names and birthdays, and told: 'Your new life is at stake if you don't get it right.'

The other girl who was taken to Spain feared she would never escape until she contacted, Amicale du Nid, a French charity working with prostitutes, in July 2014.

Jose Olivares-Chandler, defending, denied Asemota knew of any wrongdoing and said she acted as a 'mere chaperone' on the flights.

But it took less than 12 hours of deliberation for the jury to find her guilty of the eight conspiracy counts.

They also found her guilty of two counts of trafficking a person out of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration to an EU member state.

Asemota, of no fixed abode, will be sentenced later this month.

One count of conspiring to trafficking and one of conspiracy to assist unlawful trafficking were dropped during the trial.

David Fairclough, of the Immigration Enforcement crime team, said: 'Asemota was the lynch-pin of a trafficking ring which targeted vulnerable young women in Nigeria, promising them a brighter future working in Europe.

'But it soon became clear that this was far from the truth. The victims, some as young as 13, were told they would be sold into prostitution.

'Asemota traveled with the girls in order to threaten them and keep them in line.'

Five of her victim's bravely gave evidence during her trial, including one who was rescued from prostitution in Montpelier, France.

Martin French, head of the NCA's UK Human Trafficking Centre, said: 'Franca Asemota and her criminal network took advantage of these vulnerable young women in some of the worst ways possible.

'They promised them a better life, but in reality treated them as nothing more than a commodity to be sold into slavery.

'Asemota thought she could evade arrest by fleeing Europe and hiding in Nigeria. But the NCA's partnerships give us global reach and mean international borders are no barrier to justice.'

Asemota flew with the girls on frights from Lagos, Nigeria, to Heathrow between August 2011 and May 2012 with the intention of reaching France.

The Home Office said the girls were not detected in the UK airport because they remained air-side during transit.

But they were caught by French authorities who spotted their false travel documents.

Politics / Re: FG Kick-starts Resuscitation Of Ajaokuta Steel Company by donodion(m): 6:13am On Aug 03, 2016
princeofpeace22:
The Nigerian government has begun the process of resuscitating the long abandoned Ajaokuta Steel Company, located in Kogi State, Central Nigeria.

The follows the signing of the modified concession agreement between government and Global Infrastructure Limited, that will execute the work at the Ajaokuta steel plant.

Speaking at the event, which took place in his office, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said steel production was vital to the development of the country, thus the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari to see that Ajokuta Steel Company is completed.

The Vice President said steel remains a very important requirement that the country uses a lot and would soon start producing the product locally, in line with government’s diversification drive.

“Everybody in Nigeria talks about what we can do with steel. It is such an important requirement and we spend so much on it. But I think that this is possibly the first concrete step towards ensuring that all of our complaints are dealt with and that we are able to at least say that in not too long time from now, we will be able to at least produce our own steel,” he said.

The Vice President said government was saddened with the failure of past regimes to midwife the smooth take off of the Ajaokuta Steel Company of Nigeria.

The Vice President said doing so had incurred many losses for the country but the current administration is focused on resuscitating the company.

“It’s very clear that this is one of those failures of basically getting things done over the years. Somehow, one way or the other, we let the ball drop and we just couldn’t get it back on track. Unfortunately it has cost us a lot but it’s a good thing that we are now able to recover from all that and get on the path of getting things right and resuscitating Ajaokuta,” the Vice President noted.

He thanked the Minister of Solid Minerals and all staff of the ministry for working tirelessly to actualize the dream.

Professor Osinbajo described the next few months a critical to Nigeria, as the execution of the modified concession agreement for Ajaaokuta steel plant gets underway.

Historic event

In his remarks, Minister of Solid Minerals and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi said the signing of the agreement was historic because it will help resuscitate the company, as directed by President Muhamadu Buhari.

Shedding more light more on the agreement, he said it had many other components that were vital.

“There are other associated issues that we are going to be addressing in the course of the execution, which includes an agreement on the rail as well as the ports relationship which is primarily a matter for the ministry of transportation and Global Infrastructure Limited,” Dr Kayode explained.

The Minister lamented that Nigeria currently spends over three billion dollars on the importation of steel.

Also speaking, Chairman of Global Infrastructure Limited, Mr Pramod Mittal said the company was committed to accomplishing the task before it.

The highpoint of the event was the appending of signatures on the agreement papers, as the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi signed on behalf of the federal government while the Chairman of Global Infrastructure Limited, Mr Pramod Mittal signed for his company.

"We are quick to point it out when our police do something wrong," Odofin wrote. Today I saw a police woman in the rain, drenched and still doing her duty. Actively doing her job, despite the rain. Not running for shelter even though no one would blame her if she did. This is the kind of person that lifts the image of the Nigerian Police Force.
Her name is Maryam, I didn't get her last name properly or her rank. Her devotion to duty made the difference in a place synonymous with traffic gridlock on a day that isn't comfortable. She doesn't have the kind of salary or allowance that our public officials boast of but she gives meaning to the title "Civil Servant". Help us make Maryam Opep famous, help us show others what devotion to duty is."

Wrong.

And tolerance means the church should not practise for the sunday service?

Did they enter the mosque to sing? So because the north is mainly muslim christians should tolerantly stop practising their religions?

You keep asking for tolerance from christians while expecting zero from the Muslims. That is why they keep pushing the limits. Thats is why they are trying to expand sharia law in the house of assembly. Since christians must be tolerant while they are being oppressive

Tolerance must go both ways or else they will one day kill you because you refuse to think like them

Brother, i agree with you and remain on my position on "Respect and Tolerance" which is meant to go both ways.
For how long shall we keep witnessing incessant attacks based on religious differences.? Its simple, lack of Respect and Tolerance.

I have worked and lived in many parts of Northern Nigeria as a Southerner years back, covering remote rural areas as far as Sokoto and Borno.Katsina state , a relativelt small state inclusive.I remembered vividly well the only church i attended services at then was Christ Embassy in Bauchi state. However there was not a single report of attack against such assembly, why? They have a clear understanding of their environment and the indigenes.

I am not in anyway trying to absolve the Islamic radicals, vis-a-vis almajiris and their instigators, their radical tutors from blame, but im definitely saying attack such as this is preventable if we learn to respect ourselves and accept the inevitable that commonly emerges on fridays as a reality.

The particular incident happened on a Friday.....

Every wise non-muslims dwelling in North knows problems often brews after Jumat service.

Roads would be blocked as moslems would fill the mosque to the brim and so many others having their prayers right on the blocked highway. Please note, this is their community, their land.

If perhaps we have a system that checks and monitors the tyoe of teachings that goes on in various praying and worship centers in Nigeria (El Rufais Licensing of preachers comes to mind), i bet there will be less religious attacks across the northern spaces.

Left to me, Buhari should give them their 5 states Biafra Republic and whoever wants to freely submit to them. Protect the rest that chose to remain as Nigerians and we can go our ways peacefully.

Seme which is under Benin Republic is less than 5 minutes bike ride from Nigerian border.

But if they insist on seeking bloodbath first, then by all means necessary Nigeria should grant them. there's time for everything under the sun. Theres the time for peace and theres time for war.

Let us be honest and open minded about this. Nigerians like to quote "freedom and rights" but fail to consider responsibilities that goes with such.We abuse the very same rights and privileges democracy afforded us.

There is no respect for human rights, gender rights, religious tolerance, etc just to mention few.

The Church is located opposite the mosque according to report.Unless the church is having special programe e.g vigil, churches usually hold their services Sundays in the morning and evening during the weekdays.

Its without doubt that Northern Nigeria is and has always been a hotspot for religious crisis..since indigenes are predominantly Muslims.

Why then do we create storm and when it pours we cry victim?.Not justifying the almajiris criminal intents, however from the suspects confession, they were provoked.

Over the period of years we refused to learn from history, but keep engaging in not to so friendly actions that generate sparks of hate ,to the docile and fragile peaceful co-existence amongst us as different ethnics and religious faithfuls.

If we wont respect, tolerate and understand the need to blend mutually, we might as well pull back to our various states and roots of origin, living freely as everyone unruly deems fit.
