Nneka123:
I totally understand your point of view and where you are

coming from with your point. You're actually talking about the women who just decided that they wanna show their booobs or asss on social media like Instagram. For example, if a girl was suppose to put a picture of not showing her breasts or ass, just a simple picture, she will not get as much likes, as she will, if she had a picture of her displaying her boobs. I'm not against you trying to prove this point that women are the cause of them being objectify, but first of all it's not in any way their fault! it's society. The idea that sex sell is a hallucinating idea, A false hope in some sense because when we try to sell sex, we try to sell subjectivity and objectivity, where men act as subjects and women acts as objects. And objects can never be empowered. So, even those models who are paid, they are not empowered, and they are not choosing it they are being forced to do it, As because of the existing male chauvinist society, where women are for being used for sex, to do work at home, to be a baby doll, etc.And that's what mainstream media tries to project and tries to sell women in this way.
In all those music videos, you will realize that women are unnecessarily asked to be dancing and shaking their ass! while men are in full clothes. most of the male singers are comfortable in clothes while female singers are overly sexualized and hyper sexualized to sell that music or video. It's not the fault of those women but it is the fault of those directors trying to promote those videos.

Anyways! your point wasn't bad. i understand where you were coming from.

smh @ bolded. If that is not the very essence of objectification, the very thrust of OP's well articulated piece, then I sure don't know what is.

So, we shouldn't blame those women for lacking moral courage to say "NO MR DIRECTOR, I WILL NOT PLAY THAT PARTICULAR PART NO MATTER THE INDUCEMENT BECAUSE IT DEBASES ME", abi? We should blame the director instead?? For real??

Na wa O!!

What a sad sad sad day indeed. Tears are pouring my cheeks as I write this. cry cry

Those who perpetrated the act must rank among the most evil, the most demonic, the most vicious, the most cold-hearted and callous set of humans on the face of the earth.

The killers have not just tragically cut short the aspiring clinical pharmacist and lawyer, but have denied hundreds of poor Gboko people affordable access to healthcare.

Cletus was not just any other pharmacist; he had an extraordinary passion for the welfare of his numerous clients, even at the expense of his pocket.

Soft-spoken, extremely humble and always wearing his customary and very engaging smile, he would patiently attend to the crowds of clients without complain or grumble.

These are not just empty words of eulogy but a bare-faced fact: The man was simply an angel. The spontaneous eruption of protests at the news of the demise is testament to that. What a sad day indeed in TIVLAND. We've lost a true icon.

RIP Pharm(Barr) Ternenge Cletus Labe!! cry cry cry cry cry

Crime / Re: Photos From A Robbery Attack In Ikare, Lagos This Evening by doofanc: 4:25am On Jan 14, 2015

Crime / Re: Photos From A Robbery Attack In Ikare, Lagos This Evening by doofanc: 4:22am On Jan 14, 2015
kaybosedemi:
It was a horrific scene in my peaceful town of Ikare Akoko yesterday. When I first heard the initial sounds,I thought they were sound from people blasting rocks not knowing those sounds were sounds of terror.Bombs were going off as if it was a battle ground. Gun shots rained the air like water dropping from the sky. We got to know it was a robbery attack when my neighbour called his wife from where he was lying down in his office . He was already praying to God because one of the robbers was stationed right in front of his office spraying all the shops around. Thank he couldn't lock his door. Most of the shops that were locked were sprayed with bullet. By this time, he was hiding under the rug in his office and praying to God to open the ground for him to hide there. My mums shop was sprayed. Though she doesn't use the shop. The shop was rented out to somebody. Some occupants were able to escape over the fence to Victory College and Lennon Jubilee high school. The robbers killed without mercy. Those mobile police men were coming from another town and unfortunately ran into them. They were all shot in the car they were in. They were about 5. Before they came into town , they had already destroyed the main police station at igbede killing about 5 civilians at the police station. All the banks in the town were touched. A security guard at first bank said the guy beside him was shot because his phone rang while they were all lying on the door. Bank customers were shot, shop owners were killed. Sad to tell you that the girl that sold the wheat we are still eating at home was killed in the attack. Her head was removed with bullet. We also heard that they were still shooting while they were leaving the town. Other innocent people were also killed. At Jubilee alone , over 10 bodies were counted, excluding casualties in the various banks. By the time we sum up all, I think we should be having over 20 victims. The soldiers at the check point into the town were drafted to Ekiti for Jonathan's campaign. They have been coming to rob as usual in the town almost every year, but the lives that were lost yesterday were just too many . Guys, it was a terrible scene. Ikare Akoko mourns. Where else do we run to. First bank had to relocate from their former place at garage to Jubilee cos their former branch there was bombed to the ground in their last attack. Their new branch at Jubilee was opened early last year. All the banks in the town were robbed.Ikare Akoko is in ONDO state and not Lagos. The armoured vehicle of the police men that tried to face them was lifted from the road into the gutter with bomb. This is our plight in Ikare Akoko on a yearly basis. Where do we run to? Why kill innocent and harmless people? May God help us.

Lord have mercy!

That's a rural outpost not a station. There r many of such kinds in d middle belt.
These r responses of requests by locals to bring the presence of the police closer to the rural individuals.
More reason we advocate state/community policing cause it will make such outposts get an advance status quo

it is not even an outpost for police as far as I know. It's unlikely you'll ever see any officer there. furthermore its located right in the heart of otukpo.

I really wonder why it hasn't been demolished, more so when there's a standard police station not too far from there.

In just 24 hours!!! HABA!! HEHEHEHEHE!!! grin grin grin grin

I really don't think the old general was under any illusion about the kind of attack he would face once his nomination had been confirmed. What has surprised some is the breakneck speed with which the PHD campaign has commenced. Yes, all the above were opened just a few hours after his nomination. They were, evidently, well prepared.

Funny thing is its not just in Nairaland. Facebook, twitter, even BBM, etc, the smear campaign has been began in full force.

There shouldn't be a problem if they were about ISSUES (interestingly, did the PDP not promise an issues based campaign??). The problem is that save, perhaps, for the Mikeansy thread, NONE of them are about issues or his leadership competence. Its all about the time-worn, achingly hackneyed taradiddle about GMB being a sharia-apologist-fundamentalist, blah, blah. . .

Pls, FELLOW TANIODS, change. tongue

Politics / Decreasing External Reserve And Exchange Rate by doofanc: 2:03pm On Nov 29, 2014
we are told the reason the external reserve is decreasing is because the CBN uses it to create artificial demand for naira.

what I'm yet to understand is who buys the dollars from CBN? and when did this practice start, after all there was a time, I believe, that our currency was higher than the dollar.

secondly why do we need to keep the naira rate high in the first place?

anyone??

U may be right, but based on my experience at Ambrose Alli university, Edo State(at one time d WORST university in Nigeria in terms of cultism) those "average cultists" are heavily loaded guys, usually sons of influencial people (mainly politicians), that is why the police are unable to make any arrests, and even they do, the cultists are released b4 a twinkle of an eye.

the machetes and axes are merely symbolic.

Well I personally think emphasis should be on the meaning conveyed, rather than individual words.

As such I don't think the addition of 'sweet' in this instance is such a big deal.

it might interest u to know that the Bible was not written in English, and so translators occasionally had to add some words or phrases to make the meaning clearer.
