@phummyaji, google Nicholas Lodge Gumpaste Recipe. It's the best I've used for Nigerian humidity |
@nisot23, here you go. I've tried this one. I hope you don't intend to decorate this cake o. Any sponge cake without fat (basically Angel Food Cake) cannot hold the weight of icing. It's sooooo light. You can skip the zest, but it will taste so much better with it American Sponge Cake: 6 large eggs, separated 1 cup (100 grams) sifted cake flour 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup (200 grams) granulated white sugar, divided 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 2 tablespoons water Zest of a lemon or orange (outer skin) 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar Instructions: American Sponge Cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Have ready an ungreased two-piece 10 inch (25 cm) tube pan. Separate the cold eggs, placing the yolks in one bowl and the whites in another bowl. Cover the bowls with plastic wrap and bring the eggs to room temperature (about 30 minutes). Meanwhile sift or whisk the sifted flour with the baking powder and salt. Set aside. Place the egg yolks and 2/3 cup (135 grams) of the sugar in the bowl of your electric mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment (or use a hand mixer). Beat on high speed until they are thick, fluffy and light colored (when you slowly raise the beater the batter will fall back into the bowl in a slow ribbon). Then beat in the vanilla extract, water, and lemon zest. Set aside while you beat the egg whites. In a clean bowl, with the whisk attachment, whip the egg whites until foamy. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form. Gradually add the 1/3 cup (65 grams) of sugar and continue beating until the egg whites are shiny and just form stiff peaks. Next, sift the flour mixture over the beaten egg yolks (about one third of the flour mixture at a time) and gently but quickly fold (with a wire whisk or rubber spatula) the flour into the egg yolk batter. Then gently fold a little of the beaten egg whites into the batter to lighten it, and then add the rest of the whites, folding just until incorporated. (Do not over mix the batter or it will deflate.) Pour the batter into the tube pan, smoothing the top. Bake in preheated oven for 28 - 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and immediately invert the pan (turn upside down) and suspend it by placing the inner tube on the top of a flat topped glass or bowl. Allow the cake to cool completely before unmolding (about one hour). Run a flat metal spatula or sharp knife around the inside of the pan and then remove the center core of the pan. Run the spatula along the bottom and center core of the pan. Invert the cake onto a greased wire rack. |
Wow @switcandy. Congratulations! To think that it was just yesterday Chi16 said your stay wouldn't be long. Shortest stay ever! Wish you a stress free 9 months and delivery. @doublebls, which one is Carmel? Carmelwood in Kado Estate? Why didn't your spirit let you go there? Also this Fertilaid guy seems to be good. |
Wow @switcandy. And to think that, just yesterday, Chi16 told you your stay here wouldn't be long. Shortest stay ever! |
@Oct 20, Amen! I'm based in Abuja o! @Pink22, ok, me too. Do you have a good on/gyn? Me sef na prayers and supplements o. It is well. God has done it before, He will do it again, and we shall NEVER again cast our young. |
@Pink 22, thanks dear for the nice compliment. R u serious? Where are you based? Nice one (but stressful shey?). I just read one of your posts when you just joined this forum where you said you went from MCs to not having BFP at all. Exactly my enemy's situation. What, if anything, are you doing differently? |
@Blessedmum, congratulations. I knew the tiff between you and Goldenbaby was hormonal...so Goldenbaby, we dey wait your announcement. @Lizzyslaw, thanks dearie, for following me ooooo! Lmao! @Safe06, I no get wetin I wan tell you sef. You wey dey flog people for crying, na im you too sef join? Chai! If I dey were you dey now, I for flog you, at least when your DH asks you 'werin happen', you will say 'Dreamsinbc flogged me'. You fall my hand o! Wetin carry you go that side na? Seriously though, don't worry. Your BFP is around the corner. You go born twins (Ajebo and Kpako), 9 months after that, your triplets go land. After 2 years, the quadruplets go come, that cry wey u bin dey cry go vanish totally. Shebi u think say na only you fit dash person football team? @all my sisters. This is a record-breaking month. But I decree that this is just the beginning. As long as those names on Pink 22's list are still in God's waiting room, every month must break record! @Oct20, I'm still waiting for your announcement o!!! |
Ahhhh, kpele, favoured gal. Welcome switcandy and thanks for helping me out. God bless you, dear. I've modified it. @Oct20, ok, you are trying to join the site? I thought you were just trying to access it o! No, Opera mini will not work for that, Google Blogger doesn't fully support it for that. Pls use your blackberry browser. Thank you, dear for even stressing yourself. Hugs and kisses. |
@All, thank uuuu so much for visiting my blog. @Oct20, what browser are you using? R u on bb? If u are, try using Opera Mini to open it. And, my dear, your BFP is on its way. Your children will be blessed. The blessings and riches that will be required to give them the best in life will be on ground when they arrive. You have done your time in God's waiting room. For that, I pray that your BFP is the next to be announced. Can I tell you something? There is NOTHING God cannot do! Absolutely NOTHING! Your celebration will be the talk of the town. Na small thing? In fact, I go pay for newspaper announcement. LMAO. Imagine the announcement (on behalf of the ex-members of Nairaland TTC forum, I, Dreamsinbc, heartily rejoice with Oct 20 on the birth of her twins, Valentinette and Valentino) See wahala. Everybody go confuse. Your testimony will show people that there is a God, and that He never fails! Smile dear! It is well with you. |
Thank uuuuu dears. @Chokl8y, the thing no tire u? Na so o, at least to drown myself in something. @Alwaystrue, yes o! They won't lack in any department! @all, I have the utmost confidence that our prayers have been answered. @Berrybass, God bless you for initiating the idea for the fast. @Alwaystrue and Pink22, thanks for bringing forth scripture to aid us. I refuse to worry, because if I do, what, then, do I expect God to do? I leave all my stress, worries, burdens, and cares, to God. I've told him to do the worrying for me. @Tbaby and MummyF, it is well, your joy is around the corner. I just moved into a quiet neighbourhood. The neighbour in the compound to the left has a new born baby boy. The one opposite has a new born baby girl, 2 houses away, to my right, they have a new baby girl. In the afternoon, when everywhere is really quiet, you will hear them crying. You know that new baby cry, abi? Anytime I hear it, I tell God 'I hope You're hearing that too? I want my own noise soon' I know that God's Word cannot return to Him unfulfilled, so I know that we have nothing to fear. I'll be very surprised if we don't record a basketful of BFPs next month, in time for Valentine babies! |

Hi, Meddler. I usually find corn syrup at Amigos. I've also found it at Grand Square. For anything apart from caramel, Golden syrup or light molasses will be fine. For caramel sauce sha, I don't think there's a good sub for corn syrup. |

If it's a vanilla or light coloured cake, you can dust it with cocoa, if it's a chocolate cake, dust with powdered sugar. |
Abeg, I'm looking for Mooncups or Instead cups. Please does anyone know where I can find them in Abuja, and the price? I wan try another level. As usual, TTC na bas.tar.d |
Hugs and kisses, everyone. @memyselfandi, congratulations! May God give all of us BFPs before this year runs out. Happy Sunday Mums! |
@Omonikiba, don't cry o! Cry ke! Say wetin happen? See, this is an open forum, you get ALL sorts. Unfortunately, that means you also get lunatics and illiterates. Maybe the person doesn't understand the IVF process. Maybe the person doesn't know that the only difference is that the egg is fertilised outside, not inside. Then again, maybe the person knows, and is just being stupid, who knows? This must be a wicked person, because if she opens her mouth (that she uses to eat yam and cocoyam) to call IVF kids prostitutes and robbers, only God knows what she thinks about adopted kids. Please, the best thing you can do for your state of mind is to sever all contact with said person. She doesn't mean well for you, or for anybody, for that matter. If you decide to do IVF, pls do. Simple! @Beloved1993, ha, NTA news? LMAO. If na so, no invite us for the naming o. Make some bad pple here no go decode. That's the beauty of this veil of anonymity on Nairaland. You can just come on here to share your BFP with us, and then be on your merry way, with no one the wiser. Happy Sunday Mums!!! |
NnamdiN: Then I might never love any girl. I can't stand that everyday calls. I don't even talk to my family (which I love dearly) that much, let alone some chickYou just haven't met THE ONE. When you do, you will call her 20 times a day. #so true. |
As we were saying before e be like say devil wan interrupt, Beloved1993, it is perfectly well with you. Smile and be of good cheer. I pray that your first IVF attempt is perfectly successful. Meanwhile, TTC is a b*#ch! It's like e don reach that TOM for some of us here, and hormones are raging. Pls take it easy! Read Day 1 of Berrybass's prayer points, let's all take deep breaths and move on. E never reach like that na! I actually thought it was a joke b4 o! Abeg, abeg, abeg! Don't let the devil distract us, you hear? Group hug!!! |
Omonikiba, u know say my own na to talk say u don belleful. That's the only answer I have. Or are u on AF or O? |
Tbaby, check am again. I don update am! Abeg no vex. In fact, my new prayer be say God go bless our pockets richly so we can travel to attend all the dedications we are expecting here. Amen! |
Cj, happy birthday. Abeg dance your butt off, nothing dey happen. Have fun dear, and may God grant your heart's greatest desire before your next birthday. Berrybass, pls send o! I'm interested. God pass dem! Flakeey, e be like say na dat ur EPO and Robitussin timetable I go follow this cycle o. Today is CD 1, but no shaking, I dey KAMPE! @All, hugs all round. I'm sooo grateful for this forum. I love the anonymity it offers us to discuss things that would otherwise be kept hidden. But my greatest prayer is that the anonymity will be broken for all of us when we start attending each other's children' dedications oooo!!! At my child dedication, @ Flakeey, Omonikiba, Cjnone, Safe06, Berrybass, Alwaystrue, MamaTriplets, Beloved1993, Wannabeamum, Lizzyslaw, Goldenbaby, Nictos, Favoredgal, Pink 22, Chokl8y, Twingirls, Sorire, Adedoyinsola, Zeezy, Doublebls, Tbaby4real, Bolorunfem, MarJuly Jilsandra's child dedications, we will all gather and celebrate under our own special canopy. We will have lots of stories to tell, lots of things to laugh about, lots of things to praise God about. Abeg, I try write these names, abeg no flog me if I forget your name, no vex!!! |
@Berrybass, wahala dey o! God punish ttc! C as u wan turn ur house into mini pharmacy. It is well o! @Twingirls, Robitussin should start the day AF ends, and u should stop taking it the day u ovulate. @Cjnone, my hand no dey o. Time to settle, dem go use u settle. U can advice her, but no go talk to any husband o. @Goldenbaby, my 4 kids don get name already: Zikora, Zulito, Zidata and Zulumoke. LMAO! Dem go get Yoruba names too, but so far, I've only come up with Shemilore, Olaoluwakiitan, and Jadesola. Shebi u asked for it? How is everybody jare? I hope say body dey cloth sha? We thank God for everything. |
@Heknowsmyname, congratulations! We all tap into your blessing! @wannabeamum and bloomingbuds, welcome! @wannabeamum, if you can't find Robitussin, look for Mucinex. |
@i4all, thank you for that testimony. I'm happy a man is telling us these things with his mouth. @Igabe, our prayer now is for God to create the perfect opportunity for the perfect sp.erm to meet the perfect egg. That's it. Even if your DH's count is 1 million, it takes one to fertilise. You guys should eat lots of green vegetables and citrus fruits. Ginseng is very good for him too. Eggs also. Another thing is this, when you are ttc, you need people who will encourage you. I don't know how long your doctor has been your doctor, but, if I was the one he said that rubbish to, then it's time to move on. A good doctor would have told you the things your DH can do to build his count, improve motility, etc, not say rubbish to you. Anyway, now you know that hope is not lost. Don't worry, it takes 3 months for fresh kino to be produced. Just work on his diet, maybe exercise too. Hugs dear. @Lizzyslaw and everyone who thinks they have abused drugs in the past, I've been reading and laughing. I don't even know what to tell you guys. Hmmmmm, since I was 14, I had, at the very least, 2 headaches a day. You know what I used to take for them? Ibuprofen didn't work, Tylenol and Advil were like vitamin C. I was taking Carfegot and Optalidon for them. These two drugs, together, at least 2ce a day. There's no test I didn't run to find out the curse of my headaches, nowhere I didn't go o. Imagine those 2 drugs building up in my system. I'm not exaggerating o! Everyone that knows me knows about the headaches. Not until I figured out that it was just a lack of water. I hate water (but that's another story). Anyway, recently, I found out I had a kidney infection (sometimes Google is your friend). My pee was the colour of coke, my back was killing me, and I was having alternating fever and chills. The cure was simple...WATER! That's it! I took a dose of antibiotics, but even before the Doctor found out the type of bacteria causing the infection, he told me to drinks lots of water. By the time he prescribed the antibiotics, the pain had stopped, my pee was clear, my headaches stopped! My dears, just make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. It is very important. It's the only thing you can use to flush your system that won't endanger pg. I hate plain water, so I put 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in a full glass. And really, on this thread, NO SHAKING!!! Have a wonderful day Mums. |
@Lizzyslaw, there are some things that shouldn't even cross your mind! Is it not God? This same God that makes women on birth control pills to get pregnant, He will make you get pregnant. That God that makes women, who have been told their wombs have been destroyed, get pregnant, He will make you get pregnant. That God that makes old women get pregnant, He will make you get pregnant. That God that made my aunty get pregnant with blocked tubes, He will make you get pregnant. I can imagine what you must be thinking, but, on this thread, we are not allowed to be barren. If you think you can't get pregnant naturally, try ivf. All I know is, we cannot be called barren! |
@Ifyemma, which of them did you do? The water or the dye? @Goldenbaby, I understand how you feel, but don't you think it's better to rule pregnancy out before you start talking about hormone imbalance? |
