MASTERMIND04: She violated the military laws and should be punished for that. This your comment is one of the reasons this country is not progressing. Lets call a spade a spade.
I seriously doubt the lack of progress in Nigeria is due to female soldiers accepting a romantic offer from a civilian. Rather I think the inability of Nigerian leadership structures to think and execute better solutions rather solidly sticking to punishment is one of the reasons we are here. For example, a company doesn't pay taxes on time. Rather than fine and allow the company to produce - we shut it down without considering that it might be in the nation's interest to keep the company running while deducting the fine from its income. In this case, the military should have milked the political propaganda out of this. I await the law which says a soldier on duty may not accept a civilian proposal of marriage.
We have a gift of refusing to think and understand intent of laws before applying punishment.
jumpmasta: That’s your bloody business . But remember , they are dying for you in the NE so that you can sit here and blab rubbish
Dying for me in the NE? Please get away with the emotional talk. They are also responsible for dealing with innocent Nigerians in other theatres within Nigeria.
hefexzy: Sylvester Omoroni was a victim of bully in his school Dowen college, which resulted to him losing his life after sustaining internal injuries from the bully. His family had went ahead to employ the service of Mr Femi Falana, a Lawyer.
On December 9 during a space Kemi Olunloyo hosted on twitter, the renowned self acclaimed journalist said 12 years old Sylvester was willing to join cult, agreed to be beating and also accepted to drink engine oil.
Kemi also went ahead to say he willingly told the guys initiating him that he has seen his sisters unclothedness. She also compared boarding school to Big Brother Naija.
Ever since she made that statement, she is been dragged on all social platform. Some people called her demented, some called her callous, some said she has been paid to say that, other people called her an insensitive mother.
joyandfaith: Minors do not have emotional intelligence to punish minors. The practice should be stopped. It is archaic and barbaric.
Lol. Continue. Archaic and barbaric. We have heard. It requires emotional intelligence to punish others - LOL!!
What I am against is school lack of oversight on such things. There should be a formalised process for such things. I am not against seniors punishing juniors where clear definition on the punishments are stated.
joyandfaith: Seniors punishing juniors is not right. Minors shouldn't be disciplining minors.
It is not wrong. The problem is definition of the punishment. It also depends on the school.
Schools are clear on this. Parents should read the rules of the schools. Some schools allow seniors to punish juniors. At times the school requests that seniors do so. I was in a school where SS3s were often requested to punish armed robbers as an SS3 student and there was clear definition.
For those who recognise Koshoni and Aikhomu house, na 5th set I hail from.
If it is not too late, sit down and ask yourself why the UBA woman's offer is interesting. Also think what would likely happen during and after the meeting.
Personally I am loyal to my partner. I don't care if the grass is greener on the other side. The person I know is better than the person I don't know.
Also I would consider my personal security. She may be setting you up to be kidnapped.
efosky1246: My brother, you almost brought tears to my eyes with this your write-up. It's a pleasure to know good men still exist.
I keep saying it that most dysfunctional marriages, not all(before they come for my head) is usually the fault of the man. From a surface point of view, it might seem like it's the woman. But most times. The woman is reacting to the deficiencies in the man.
When you treat a normal, healthy woman right and act like a leader, set the tone in the relationship. Not just shouting "I am the man" up and down. There is no how she would not submit and respect you. Men need to be held more accountable.
We should grab a drink together if you're keen. Would love to connect in person.
Unfortunately life is not 2+2=4. Treating a woman right doesn't equate to not having issues in the marriage. Your post will be hailed by those whose agenda it suits.
pmoye: Thanks for your choice of words, financially sufficient to provide ... for his family. It probably would have been a better choice in my original post, but then I needed to paint a graphic picture so I used the word rich. Little did I know that some individuals hate that word... I consider being financially sufficient to provide for one's family as being rich. And such provision will not stop at just food, must be good food, health care, education and a decent status in the society. These things are really basic needs even though many now consider them luxury.
Agreed, Financially stable and sufficient would have been a better phrase. There are levels to this game of getting money.
If my mother had followed your advice, I wouldn't be alive today and I suspect neither would a very high proportion of the world.
TL/DR: This advice should be taken very carefully!! Rather ensure that before you get married both of you are able to take care of the family you want to set up.
By the way if she says she was testing you or that can't you take a joke or she will change. Exit the relationship. University age is not the age for stupidity.
SmartPolician: That's FALSE, huncle. Festus Keyamo is a SAN, meaning that he knows Nigeria's law deeply. He needs someone who understands the law as much as he does to engage him in such intellectual discussions. Unfortunately, Seun didn't do a good job.
my opinion - SAN is nothing nowadays. It no longer has as much respect. It only proves the person read some books very well. By the behaviour of the SAN bearing officials in the Nigerian government over the last few regimes, it stands for nothing.
I do not blame Seun for not probing. This government doesn't take kindly to criticism.
SmartPolician: I shook my head when you claimed that Festus Keyamo is stupid without stating how. That man is way too smart and intelligent for Seun Okin to interview him.
I think it's only Maupe Ogun-Yusuf who has the experience and intellectual capacity to engage Mr. Keyamo in such conversation.
I watched the interview and was surprised how Seun would let him get away with his controversial answers, probably because he doesn't know how to counter them.
Most likely if Seun tries to counter them he may be invited for further discussions by a government agency.
