bennyflipy: It was actually spare money I used to buy the shares (money I can afford to lose), it was over 50% of the money I invested around February and march I think but it has dropped dramatically, my fear is not to be on the losing side on the long run.
My intention was to leave it there for a long time. Well from the trends, January, Febuary, March are historically year highs. Not usually the best time to buy. It is actually the time those that bought July, September, the previous year sell after qualifiying for dividend. At the end, your goal is the most important thing. |

RabbiDoracle: NSE bearish? Some stocks could be, but the overall health of the market as seen from the index is still bullish.
From a high of 54,290 to current value of 49,546 is just 8.7% decline. This index doesn't look bearish. Let me change my choice of words. What I was trying to say is that, this is the year low or lowest share price period for most stocks. The release / anticipation of third quarter results will lead to price appreciations in the range of 30 to 40 % of current market prices. I observed from your chart that there is always a bear after each election year, not before. It seems to be the trend. Hence it might be advisable to stay off the market after the january bull/ price appreciations that will take place. |

OBAGADAFFI: Also remember Elections bear. It might be bearish January. I agree with you, but there will be a bull before the bear. Just pick any stock that has december as end of year. Check the last 10 years. You will see the trend. There will be a price appreciation sometimes in december and a second one in january or it starts late december into January |

Let me share my little knowledge. I have shared it before.
I am not claiming to be a prophet but just observations.
The NSE has a cycle it follows. At present it is bearish but towards beginning of september, end of september and the release of third quarter results there is usually a bull run that lasts till January. It peaks at second week in January.
So we have 2 to 4 weeks to accumulate stocks of your choice at juicy prices now. |

Toluway: @Dum20, granted there is nothing essentially wrong if government invests and make profit. However, you might wish to recall that investing is not actually the business of government. You might also wish to note that the primary responsibility of government is to provide enabling environment for business to thrive, especially in provision of necessary infrastructure and social amenities like good roads, electricity, security, low interest loans/micro finance for small and midium scale industries and so on. When government does it's own part, entrepreneurs from home and abroad would be naturally attracted to invest. I think that is the point SonofElElyon is trying to make. Thank you bro. You are right. What is an investment? What is investing? Is it only when someone purchases shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange? Do you know the number of investments the Lagos state government has? But you see we are saying the same thing. The government can say, I will build roads to your factory, make electricity come to your factory, make sure there is security around your factory. For me to do that for you, you have to pay N50 Billion naira. You as an investor will say in place of the N50 Billion, I will give you 1% of my company, the money that you have is to build the factory. I will say okay deal done. So the governemt will invest N50 Billion in providing that enabling environment. For example if You and I want to start a business. You have 100 million cash but we need a buildin at Ikoyi to locate our business. I can tell you I have a duples in Ikoyi valued at N20 million. If you give me 10% of the company, I will make my duplex available for the business. This is how business deals are done. |

sonofElElyon: You continue to baffle me.. those businesses lagos established are owned by lagos state. They didn't buy into another company's shares.. no price fluctuation of shares. Safe investment because again there's the population in lagos to consume the products. If you choose to buy shares then you are looking at returns on investment (Obi always emphasised that during last election please). Regarding the tax inter breweries pays, are you saying foreign companies in Nigeria without government investment don't pay tax?? If a governor provides good investment incentives and climate foreign companies will invest without govt putting in funds ! Oga, Please do not feel offended or insulted in any i say you do not like it is not my intention to. I am just discussing business and investment. On the bolded, Lagos is the majority share holder. There are other shareholders to the Rice Mill, lagos does not own them 100%. Lagos government does not own BRT 100%, there are other shareholders There is nothing wrong if a government owns a business 100%. Have a lovely day. There is price fluctuation in the price of the Rice Mill shares and BRT shares this is because they do not make the same revenue every year. What you will say is that the shares are not listed on the NSE so we do not see the price fluctuations. When you put money anywhere you should look for return on your investment. It must not be cash or dividend, it could be good will and well being of the society. Like building of roads and schools by governemt, the return on investment is not cash or dividend. |

sonofElElyon: Okay. We have agreed to disagree. Funny enough Obi focused all the time during the last election on returns on the investment like i have done... however you chose to widen the benefits bracket and indices.. which is fine.. i said before that there are always foreign companies willing to establish factories given the right investment climate which essentially is the job of the governor to provide. He didn't need to invest state funds to achieve that. That's the point! Zenith isn't on all fours with international breweries bro.. in every material particular.. EPS, dividend percentage yield vis a vis price etc. Even at current price it's a super deal ! Anyway we have agreed to disagree Please what is he supposed to invest state funds in? Are you aware that the Lagos state government is building a rice mill at Ikorodu? Are you aware that Lagos state government is part owners of BRT buses? Do you want me to list investments governments have made? Please if you have the time go through Intebrews annual statements, check the taxes they have paid since inception, also see if you will find the portion of the taxes that go to Anambra government and see if it was a wise investment or not. Have a lovely day. Let us continue sharing knowledge. |

sonofElElyon: Are you saying there aren't several businesses abroad willing to invest and establish factories in Anambra if given the right investment climate Must you risk state funds for this I don't need to mention any particular one. Check previous predictions on nsempa. Or does the governor not have access to investment advisors? You are turning this into a political argument bro.. Oga, you are very funny. You ask someone to bring his money and you do not bring part of your money to give the investor confidence that you are serious? I am sorry to say you are speaking from a position of ignorance. Do not take it as an insult. I am telling you that the government has recovered the money the put into that brewery and are still making money from it. I am talking and analysing an investment I am not talking politics. I am trying to show you how it is a wise investment but it seems you have closed your eyes to it. That brewery exists and still produces drinks. |

sonofElElyon: So do I quote you to the effect that anambra state has broken even on their investment when you sum up dividends and current share price
I maintain safer stocks were available to invest in. I don't want to get dragged into an argument so it won't degenerate to a political disagreement.. I'm not supporting either Tinubu or Obi but Tinubu invested in econet, later sold and made good profit for Lagos. It was wise investing. Profits can always be used to stimulate the economy of a state. Obi is too impulsive. Even with his facts and figures in speeches which on many occasions have been proved wrong.
p.s. I only cited Tinubu's econet investment to prove that time should be taken to choose best investment opportunities... I personally think Tinubu would make a horrible president so don't think I'm campaigning for him.. same goes for Obi Hello Bro, I am responding to you not to have a political discussion but investment discussion. Why do you think past presidents beg for foreign investments? Even politicians boast about bringing in foreign investors this is because the best investors are the ones that come in to build factories and employ labor. You are doing your assessment using the wrong metrics. For example: 1. The brewery had to buy land-- Land owners have made money and will feed their family, cloth their family, pay school fees, hospital bills, data, power supply, the economy will be good. 2. The brewery has to be built --- Engineers, technicians, labours will be employed these will also buy food, house, pay bills stimulating the economy. 3.Contractors has to supply goods and services to the brewery ---> Contractors and their family get to feed, go to school, houses will be built in and around Anambra. These category of people will pay taxes to the government, the goverment makes money for every money this category of people spend. I can confidently tell you that Anambra government has made back the money they spent on the brewery and is still making money from the investment. In 2020 Zenith bank price went as low as N11 while some people bought it at N20 with hindsight are going to say an investment in zenith bank at N20 is a bad investment? The responsibility of every government is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and pay taxes and that is what the man did. The focus was not share price and dividend. The returns from dividend is miniscle when compared to other returns on investment. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Dum20: 9:17am On Jul 27, 2022 |
sonofElElyon: Obi should've been more calculating in risk taking with anambra money. Why not more secure stocks?? Anyway let's not turn this place to politics thread Bro, The investment entailed building a brewery in Anambra state which created jobs for its citizens, stimulating the value chain. It created an industry of farmers that grow the inputs that are used in making alcoholic drinks, suppliers, taxes to the state government. That brewery is still existing and producing drinks, paying taxed to the state government, employing both expatriates and locals. This is what every economy needs. Because the people that work at the brewery will need housing, food, clothing, schools, light....... so it was a wise investment. The state has benefited more than 100% of what was invested. It is ignorant people that look at only the share price. We saw the effect of portfolio investors on NSE in 2015, when they pulled out their money, the NSE crashed. But those that build factories are the ones that are good for the economy. That investment is the type of investment Nigeria economy needs to save the naira. If Toyota had a factory in Nigeria, there will not be any need to look for dollars to buy Toyota cars. If all the things Nigeria imports are produced in Nigeria, there will be less pressure on the naira and our economy will be booming and there will be lots of jobs. It was a wise decision he took to make that investment. On the bolded, He also bought Eurobonds and had savings in dollars for the state. |

To think I will see GTCO at 20.40 again for no reason except foreign investors’ pullback. That’s one good entry opportunity.
Zenith looks great at 21.80 too.
MTN should behave and come within range, 220 isn’t so bad.
WAPCO at 26 is mouth watering.
STANBIC shouldn’t act so tough, 29 is where we need it to be at this time.
Do you see NGX too? 22.20?
Consumers should act accordingly and slide down for a bit - Flourmill, Nestle, Cadbury, BUAFOODS.
Please look out and take these opportunities as they come. From my experience, most stocks with financial end of year as December, their share price is always lowest from may to end of July. The lull in the market is as a result of people taking profit from dividend declared earlier in the year. I believe there will be a rally from end of July/early August when second quarter results start coming out. I am speaking from historical data. |

Harvestock01: Letter of Administration (LA as it is generally called) is not prepared by a lawyer! It is prepared by the Probate Registrar of the State High Court.
Your surest bet is to approach the Probate Registry. It takes between 3 and 4 months before it's finally issued. If a lawyer is handling the processing for you it takes longer because of the back and forth of providing one more information or the other. It also saves you from unnecessary costs and fees. It's not every lawyer that's familiar with the process but they won't tell you and won't give it the attention it requires. Thank you for pointing this out. That means he has 3 options: 1. It is an anomaly for banks to offer deposit rates less than treasury bills rate considering treasury bills have zero repayment risk. When TB rates were 18%, FD rates were not more than TB rates. The banks cannot match that rate. I guess there is a specific need this bank has that is why it is giving these rates that are higher than TB rates. |

They are making money from their FD rate offer. In fact, the bank probably already has loan requests it wants to fund but cant because of CBN's minimum CRR - so it has to source the funding by attracting more deposits and in turn offering more attractive deposit rates. Personally, I like the 'no liquidation' condition before maturity - clever bank I understand the fact that they are bank. Most short to medium term investments currently hover around 7 to 9 percent. Double digit interest rate is the only consolation in these inflation times. You are right but the rate they offer is higher than what is obtainable with Treasury Bills. With the 50 million they are targeting institutional investors. They are now competing with FG |
