Hope he performs well.

I'm Rivers, but equally proud of Anambra! Ameachi wasn't strategic about education! You build beautiful schools without the plan to ensure that quality teachers are recruited! The so-called "free" schools have several charges and levies that the students have to pay! And wait, hear this...After mass recruitment of teachers in a reactive policy, he kept the teachers for over 7 months without pay! How's that for good motivation? He is a clueless and insipid governor, and we are glad to say good riddance to him!
This is the same pitfall Rochas is facing.

Free education may sound rosy but it may not always be the best and should be selectively implemented with caution.

I prefer a generous merit based scholarship system.

Or maybe just at the primary level.

MY PEOPLE! How come none of those private schools where pupils pay N2million as school fees came tops.
I thought there's a special machine there for imparting knowledge into them which public schools don't have.
Lol
You raised a vital point.

However, St Charles and QRC are mission schools.

And truth must be told they (mission) have the highest standards of discipline.

Mission schools took a nosedive when they were taken over by the government which ran them aground.

When they were returned to the various churches, they had deteriorated so much that it was an uphill task to regain their previous standard.

States like Anambra were lucky cause the government did not discriminate during the educational reforms rather the mission schools benefited heavily.
With superior management they naturally came out tops.

Yes true, a plot of land in SE goes for the price range you mentioned.

But take this: a non-igbo person offered to buy the former Mr Biggs building along Chime Avenue in Enugu for 14million but he was refused. It was later sold to a Igbo person for 12.7 million.

Who can actually afford it more?
I thought the common saying is that Igbos love money above all.

Does that not make this your cooked up story total hogwash?

Believe me a typical Igbo man will sell to whoever offers more money.

Stop cooking up fake stories.

Good.

But you shouts one Nigeria when it benefits you. You buy and owned properties in the SW but in the SE Yoruba and Hausa are systematically not allow to do like you do in SW.

Despite all this you still cry being victimized.
Trash.

A plot of land in a SE capital city goes for between 3 to 60 million naira.

How many people can afford this and are willing to spend that much.

They simply cannot afford land in the SE.

You are seeing things from the wrong perspective. No southwesterner will ever be the first to abuse the SE. The igbps are always the first to start the abuse. But when we respond, they start playing victim and crying wolf; whereas they are the originator. When the housefly bites the wound of a man, nobody talks. But when the man with the wound bites or eats the housefly, then everybody starts raising eyebrow and making noise.
Just like the Oba of Lagos.

Errrm the Rasome Kutis are Egba Indigenes. They are not connected to Lagos in any form.
Fumilayo is a Creole (Saro) descendant.

Francis Abigail Olufunmilayo Thomas was born on 25
October 1900, in Abeokuta . Her father was a son of
a returned slave from Sierra Leone.

I don't expect ur Ibo brain to understand but that is the real truth.am sure u saw egba and abeokuta and not lagos

His father was a grandfather was Creole(Saro).

They are actually Creole that resettled in Lagos colony.

Okay. Fair enough.

But in my neck of the woods, I know you don't kill an ant with a sledgehammer. Sure the ant will die. But the hammer would cause a crack on the rocky floor, sending you, over the precipice if you were on a mountain.

When Israel started out it had the world's support. It was the Jewish settlement in the midst of hostile Arab neighbours. It had to defend itself. But as Israel deployed massive force killing thousands of Palestinians each time a handmade grenade (which didn't kill any Israeli) was thrown over their side of the border, public opinion shifted.

Yes Israel wanted to send a strong message by deploying their tanks and missiles. No Palestinian should dare throw grenades over their border.

Did it ever work?

No.

Rather, each cycle, some young Palestinian did the same thing and soon public opinion shifted in their favour. Right now Israel's biggest ally America is about to join other European countries in recognising the State of Palestine.

Getting statehood is the first step in Palestine starting an army and in future, they could start getting military support from other countries to counter and match Israel's force in the event of any outbreak of hostilities.

Back to Dr Ariyo's case.

When the news broke public opinion was on the side of the Igbos. Even Yorubas took to twitter to condemn it just like in Oba Akiolu's case but if the issue is over flogged public opinion might well shift back in the favour of Ariyo especially when it looks like Igbos are on a vindictive, pull him down syndrome.

Besides the man has claimed his account was hacked but let's even assume he actually said those things.

Did he make the xenophobic statement in a public fora, like a gathering of Yoruba youths asking them to go up in arms or in a private conversation like a lot of bigots who are the main champions of these cause have done on nairaland? What is his sphere of influence? Is he a Yoruba leader of some sort? How many people even knew about his existence talk more of his statement before someone latched on and blew it up?

What then is the aim of these protests? To serve as a deterrent for future hate speech offenders or just to destroy him? These are the things I don't understand because if the aim is to serve as a deterrent then I don't see it achieving that.

Rather I'm worried it might achieve the opposite. Increase animosities in Yoruba against the Igbos.
Your analogy is Apples and oranges.

The obvious reason for the protest is to deter any such occurrence in the future.

I am not sure anyone would want such negative publicity so it will discourage anyone from any tribe making hate speeches.

Racist statements are some of the most career damaging anywhere in the developed world.
It is not peculiar to Nigeria.

People have to accept the consequences of their actions.

That is what keeps normalcy in the world.

If you commit a crime you get punished.

We all are shouting that the SA government did not do enough to curb xenophobia/genocide.

Well this is how it starts, from one verbose Oba to a talkative doctor, before you know it, it becomes norm.

That is why such actions must be vehemently discouraged less it turns into something monstrous.

Dysfunctional state governments are the bane of the Nigerian economy.
Many of the state governments are in heavy debt from Lagos to Imo to Osun.

The state governors just lie redundant await for hand outs from FG while looting and amassing wealth.

Only to turn and attack the FG instead of finding ways to generate revenue.

Rochas is busy amassing land and real estate for himself.

With construction of "eyeservice" substandard projects all over the place.

I keep saying this.... I really love my country but I wish the youths can understand that these old men have nothing to offer..... If you go down this thread you will find out that many people blame government for everything ...

Our problem is that the central government has alot in her shoulders... Yet some useless states takes home more allocation than useful states based on land mass and disregard to family planning.

It's easy to be a good footballer from the screen of your TV set but when the real game comes up one will understand he/her is a faker..... GEJ was slow but has vision though many factors contributing to that .... BH, God fathers, cabals and the West.... But I bet every Nigerian that GMB will be more confused than GEJ ... Remember talk are cheap.

In the western world GMB will fail at the polls with ridiculous promises he made ... I read here some people keep saying he will give steady electricity and I laugh so big .... Am not really an anti buhari but fact is that Nigeria can not have more than 50% steady light at least not in the next 12years which GMB can not change ....

Every oil producing nation is at hot seat now ... The world is so broke ... Even Europe are facing crisis... Nigeria of all that has Lost 50% of her capital income due to fall of oil price .... Yet some people stay here and type nonsense... GEJ is not our problem ... Our problem is our ideology.

Now the economy crisis are here And we found ourselves in the hands of an incoming administration that has alot of political God fathers staying at the byline...yet the Cabals still sitting firm on their oil well licenses.

To borrow is something every government does ... Russia with their rich oil and all that went borrowing... So as other EU countries setting sight on the New china development bank for loans .

Finally we all have to live in reality ... Oil is our harm... China is a big customer we have lost in oil industry... Now UK just discovered oil that is bigger Than ours ... Another client lost lol.. we have to struggle to survive ... Funny enough oil plays a role in everything we do here in Nigeria.. Yet we have to expect more bad days coming .. Yes the winter is coming

GMB by the time he realize, he will deny every promises he made and he will prefer a BH wahala than what's ahead .
Exactly.
It baffles me how we are so quick to hold the central government responsible while exonerating the states.

Not saying that the FG is not to be scrutinized but the states are having a field day looting when their allocation should be put to profitable use.
Rather they just pay salaries do some shabby projects and wait for the next hand out.

It is appalling.

Please blame the FG for the mismanagement of our earnings. Little blame goes to the states.

Are you saying that not having resource control and regional government are good justification for this woeful failure of our FG?
This type of mentality is the reason Osun state cannot pay salaries while states like Anambra find it easy.
