Foreign Affairs / Re: Africa Without Slavery And Colonization by Eddeux(m): 6:12am On Aug 07, 2010
How many countries would be in Africa today if ethnic groups formed nations through co-operation instead of colonization enforcement? I think way more than there are now. undecided

One thing for sure is that Nigeria wouldn't exist. Maybe Biafra grin
Politics / Re: Some Disturbing Power Facts by Eddeux(m): 3:43am On Aug 06, 2010
Kobojunkie:

This is a big reason why I argued on a thread some months ago that Nigerians WILL NOT be able to pay for electricity and so Government needs to look into restructuring it's subsidy program to help tackle that issue or we will be no better than where we are today.

Opening up the power sector to foreign investment, and offering subsidies would be the best way to achieve greater capacity.
Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to privatize PHCN. I'm sure businessmen can't do anymore damage than the already corrupt officials working for PHCN.

Kobojunkie:

@Poster, how much electricity does Nigeria currently generate though? As of april, I believe the number was said to be at about 3600MW, so how can 12500MW make that 20000MW?
3,600 MW, I thought it was around 6,000! Anyways does business-generated power count too? Because then it could be over 10,000 MW, I'm positive. Which would make the added 12,500 MW over 20,000 MW. Boy imagine how much economic growth comes with over 12,500 more megawatts of power shocked

@Eddeux - Go to Alaigbo and see all those Igbo men with big beer bellies. I refuse to look like one of them, that is why I go to the gym each day and don't drink beer, only wine.
beer isn't that bad for ya, if you have one or two a day. I don't like the taste of it though, then again all I've had is bud light and budweiser.
Politics / Re: Obama to visit Nigeria? by Eddeux(m): 8:03am On Aug 05, 2010
Wasn't there already news of him 'visiting' earlier this year? And when he was first inaugurated as well? I'm American, but I don't see what's so special about Obama visiting Nigeria. I bet he'd just talk about what all world leaders say "Nigeria needs to get its house in order, and ensure that come 2011 that free and fair elections are held." Don't you get tired of hearing that?

Do you know anything about the Nigerian military. They sucsessfully spear-headed the first African peace force (ECOMOG) with other neighbours in countries like Liberia, Sierre Leon and Guinea Bissau. Thats what sort of rewards there are for having the no1 military in the region kiss

Politics / Re: Uk Moves To Stem Immigration by Eddeux(m): 6:13pm On Jun 27, 2010
tpiah:

^^dont you mean Canada.

Immigration is a sensitive topic in the US these days.
No it's not, illegal immigration is a sensitive topic. The US would never move to limit LEGAL immigration unless we couldn't support it (highly unlikely, huge country w/ only over 300 million people). US and Canada would definitely be better places for immigrants in my opinion. The UK is just too small and getting tired of the immigrants who just come for benefits. If I apart of the coalition govt I'd make it a law that any immigrant found cheating the system would be deported and not allowed to enter the UK again for x amount of years.

Politics / Re: Nigeria’s Debt May Hit N16.08tr By 2020 –experts by Eddeux(m): 3:24pm On Jun 25, 2010
What is that $106.24 billion dollars? Nigeria's GDP in 2020 (if growth reaches into double digits sometime this decade) will, or should I say may, be above $900 billion, so debt-to-gdp ratio will still be low. Though the last thing Nigeria needs is to be ladened with more debt, even if it's just a small % of GDP.

Politics / Re: Is This Really The ''first Storey Building In Nigeria''? by Eddeux(m): 7:22am On Jun 25, 2010
ElRazur:

Yes. There are many, depends on what history you are after.

From the top of my head, Lokoja, Ikole, Eko [In lagos], Ilorin and many more.
then one of them should have Nigeria's first story building, or better yet Nigeria could just be a nation w/ no 'firsts', just w/ multiple cities that are home to the first story building in their areas, considering it wasn't formed till the Brits came knockin' in.

And I thought Benin City was a historical city, I heard it from someone on this forum sometime ago.
