For those of you using Android and their phones have not been stolen, please activate "Find my phone" from device settings and enable your GPS. This makes it very easy to track if it is stolen.
Remember to use a password to lock your phone |

There's an Australian immigration thread you can read up on. The government is trying to populate rural areas and with the help of your friend, I think it would be easy for your immigration. |

Dollywood: I get numerous complaints that Campus life in Canada is boring in addition to the intense cold there makes things depressing, how true is this? I also heard it is hard to make friends to have fun together unlike here in Nigeria where almost all Campuses are fun filled and memorable. I intend to study in Canada after this whole pandemic. I'll need your advise. Are you going to campus for fun or to acquire knowledge? |
Family › Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by EDGEof2MORO: 6:05pm On May 31, 2020 |
Klass99: I can relate to this post. I had a school mate schooling and working in Russia. She often had to fall back on money contributed by her siblings in Naija to survive. She didn't stay back after school, she came home.
My own cousin returned from Australia, after his Masters. He said the system over there won't allow you live a very comfortable life. Everything is billed and taxed to a point where, you can hardly afford nice but expensive things for yourself.
He said most of the people he befriended had never been on a plane or travelled outside their states of residence, because by the time they are done paying bills, there's very little left for travel. Travelling for them, would mean a financial plan of 6 or 8 months ahead for that trip. Same shit in Nigeria. If you manage to get a job in the private sector, forget about traveling |
Family › Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by EDGEof2MORO: 6:03pm On May 31, 2020 |
rentAcock: Abroad people call me every weekend asking me to send money (not bragging). Many of them are frustrated over there. They work long hours including overtime but the government takes federal, state, city, social security, medicare, medicaid and disability taxes. On top of that, when they buy biscuit, they will still take sales tax. They pay exorbitant rent; those who "own" homes are locked in a loan repayment for 30yrs of which they still have to pay annual taxes for their house. Phone bill can cost over $60 per line, cable $120, internet $80 and they still pay tax on top of it. Burger and chips with soft drink can easily cost you $16 plus tax.
Sure some folks are making over $100,000 theoretically especially healthcare workers in expensive states like California and new York, but by the time they deduct all those taxes from their check, they are left with just $40,000. Then they still have to pay more taxes on every thing they buy. That's not life. It's like a rat wheel, oscillating but not making any progress. I have a cousin who was in the same situation in America, after 10yrs working as a social worker, he returned home and we started up a business. He still regrets all the years he spent slaving away in America. Today, he travels the world on vacation and visiting places he didn't even have time to visit when he was living abroad. It's not too late for Nigerians living abroad to return home; you can make it big here with less stress and you will extend your life span. Your fictional cousin is a lucky one |
Family › Re: HELP! My Brother Is Too Dull by EDGEof2MORO: 10:44am On May 30, 2020 |
Gundel001: Hi good day my fellow Nairalander please I will really need your experience about this issue. Please help me read to the end as it is a little bit long.
My junior brother is 14 years old and to be sincere I haven’t seen anybody as dull as him. I don’t know if it is natural but I just can’t understand why someone at that age could still be struggling with very simple arithmetic. My brother can’t write 1 – 150 correctly at 14.
He seems too dull; note he attends one of the best private school around our area, though I know you might say maybe education is not his way but even if you want to drop out from school you should know some basic things like money, time, multiplication and so on but my brother doesn’t know anything I must say, even to write his name correctly is a problem. It is making everyone unhappy lot of money is being spent on lesson teachers and other things for him still no improvement.
I am a student of one of the top federal University in Nigeria same as my other siblings even at both secondary and undergraduate level we were always above average so I can’t say his problem is genetic. I really wants to know what is the problem with him nairalanders. After I finished secondary school I once taught some pupils in primary school though there were dull ones too there but with time I could see improvement unlike my brother i always try to teach him from time to time but it kind of frustrating as he doesn’t even seems like he will ever grab anything and he doesn’t behave like he wants to learn anything.
He makes it seems as if he is not interested book or arithmetic at all …we all tried talking to him endless time to always read any time he his less busy but he never does except he is being forced.
He rarely talks, he loves to keep to himself always, he doesn’t have interest in anything unlike we the others that are die hard football fans, most times my mom will tell him to even go out to play and mingle he will not still want to go, he prefer to stay at home seating all day without reading or doing anything, even if it is to draw or play football he wont.
This matter is not making everyone happy at home we don’t even know the solution to his problem again, as in imagine having a child that is 14 years old that doesn’t know the difference between 17 and 71 it is just so bad…..
We don’t know if his case is mental or spiritual. please nairalanders I know there are child experts in the house or anybody who have experienced something like this before what do you think is the problem and possible solutions to the problem your contributions are welcome.
Please help me push this pleaseeeeee You're brother might just be an entrepreneur. You guys should give him all the support he needs, he's at the edge of a breakthrough |
