buJu-234:Funny comment from another negative Nigerian. So is it PDP that have been destroying the infrastructure since the 70s? The last time checked, PDP has been ruling since 1999 but the power problem has been there almost like forever. Secondly, the state governments have been given the go ahead to build their power generating stations and some have already started. So how is he or GEJ monopolising anything. Why can't some of you just receive good news and be happy for one second. It is a terrible medical condition not to be able to smile or not to be able to see good in anything. Watch it bro. |
@Jason123 I wasn't absorbing the Igbos, I was simply saying Zik and Ironsi were really not such power brokers. Zik was a ceremonial head. zik himself "betrayed" the Ibos during the civil war. Ojukwu was the one that had the ibo interest at heart. |
@Jason123, I never said I hate the Yoruba. I am discussing issues here not persons. I did say before that I have several Yoruba friends. I am talking in the context of Nigeria and the Yoruba nation. My problem with them is the hypocrisy they show when they try to make us believe they are fighting for our collective interest. I will respect them a lot more if they just come out and state it like it is. At least that's one thing you have to respect the Hausa/Fulani for. They always come out to say what they want. If all the tribes in Naija just come out and make their demands and positions, we would have been a great country by now. The reason people like Asari say the things they do is because they know Nigeria is all about sectional interest. They have seen how over the years, the north and the SW have pushed their own into key areas of the oil and gas industry and continue to do so. They have seen how you couldn't get choice jobs or contracts from the FG except you were Hausa/Fulani or Yoruba. They have seen how a whole country was thrown into debt and poverty because the nations resources was used to build a new capital territory in record time. They see these stuff everyday so you can't blame them for how they feel. Honestly, I feel their pain too. |
ENEONWO: But for the fact that Nairaland has been infilterated by ethnic jingoists and latent moral underdogs like Beaf, Ekeke's position as quoted by Gbawe would have ended this thread. Yes, Ekeke has said it all, but do people listen? Someone says 'no one is so blind as he who has functional eyes but refuses see'. Thank you Gbawe, for that informative piece. The irony of life is that we have so many people who think they see and the rest of us are blind. Do you know Hitler thought the rest of the world was blind. Even Boko Aram and Al Qeada thinks e are all blind. That is why Nigeria is where it is today. Because poeple like you think they can see and the rest of us are blind. False sense of superiority complex is the proper name for it. @Jason123, I did say that "if I can recall" meaning I wasn't too sure if he was the first. But I think he did set the tone for modern day Nigeria in terms of economic policies. Like I said, on one hand, they ere good policies that favoured his people but in the National context, they were detrimental to the national interest in the long term. So sincerely, it is hard to fault him. I do have big issues with Zik too. Zik was one of those that pushed the one Nigeria stuff to the point where we ended up with this fraud of a relationship. But Zik was a ceremonial head. Sir Ahmadu Bello was the prime minister and had all the powers. Ironsi was a weak military ruler who didn't even want to rule. |
Tony Spike: I don't like commenting on tribal threads but can anyone honestly give us a comprehensive list of the Minister of Finance, Commerce, Petroleum and all policy makers that have been with the "so called" Hausa and Yoruba rulers of Nigeria for the past 25 years? I am more interested in this list because a President (or head of State) makes decision based on his ministers.I would be interested in such a list but again, you cannot say people like Abacha or IBB really cared much what their ministers thought or said. Their agendas were cast in stone from day 1. Awo was the first finance minister if I can recall. He definitely set the tone for where we are now as a nation. His people did benefit from him and you have to respect that but in the context of Nigeria, his divisive ideologies set us up for the big divides we see today. |
@Edo_girl, if you think the non indigines in Lagos really "Love" the Yoruba, you are truly delusional. I have several Yoruba friends but when you talk of the Yoruba as a whole, the perception is very different. When you talk about them in the context of Nigeria, the perception is very different. Edo state is ACN but majority of Edo state citizens will never go with the Yoruba. I am talking about the way they try to address national issues. I am not talking about individual dislike for persons. The Yoruba man will always vote for his own. They are the most tribalistic people in Naija. They can isolate themselves and I am not talking about GEJ's government. I am talking about a time that is coming when decisions will be made and they will affect everyone of us, whether we like it or not. The SW states are not very bouyant states aoart from Ondo. Lagos income or wealth is artificial. It is not natural. It is because Lagos was capital of Nigeria and enjoyed things like being the major sea and airport for many years. That is changing and could change even much more in the near future. I have worked in several sectors. The Niger Delta people are the most detribalised in Nigeria. A ND man will never employ another ND man just because he is from ND. A Yoruba, Hausa or Ibo man will do exactly that. That is what has been going on for years in the federal ministries and multinational companies. They can come here and pretend to be saints but we know what is really going on. Like I said before, Nigeria, for about 5 decades, was ruled and destroyed by the Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba leadership. |
alj harem: How can GEJ be a Nigerian president and demand respect from all Nigerians when some people always go tribal with every criticism ?Its interesting how you are trying to play the saint here. You lads started criticising GEJ when he was not even sworn in. Simple proof that it had nothing to do with issues. But the man continues to proove you lot wrong. Even when some have threatened and are making good their threat that the country would be made ungovernable. Tell me which other president since independence has made far more fundamental policy changes in such a shory time. FOI, official secrects act, PHCN structure, Railway act, just to mention a few. |
lagcity: eeeyaah. poor Jonathan, i feel sorry for the guy.You want to spoil this very nice atmosphere with this your Tinubu post abi? Shey you he has just been taken for another serious medical trip after spending billions on an owambe birthday bash? Please no gp there oh. Except you wan buy market! |
alj harem: Hmmm so you are Igbo !!!My guy, if you looking for an opportunity to lash the Ibos, go ahead. I am not from the south east. I am Niger Delta thru and thru. But that is not even important. What's imporant are that we must have a country where evry tribe is equal and respected. GEJ should be criticised as president but how does insulting his name, traditional attire and such stuff count as proper criticism. Please tell me? |
ilugunboy: Some posts in NL are not just worth the space they are typed on.My guy, you want to lie to yourself? Go ahead! The Hausa/Fulani and Yorubas controlled Nigeria for the last 50 years. That's a big fact! The Ibos where a strong force before the civil war but since then, its being Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba. From military to civil service to multinationals. Things have only started to change since the last few years. That is why OBJ is the only Yoruba man I truly respect because he is the one that has tried to balance the power of recent but you folks have hated him for that and fought him to a stand still. Yet you call us the bigots. Fully really. |
@Alhrem or whatever, you don't need to post a long score sheet. the rule says 25% of 2/3 not to win the state. Even if Buhari won those SW states, all GEJ would have neede fromthose states was 25%. Haba you no go school? |
@Alhrem or whatever, you don't need to post a long score sheet. the rule says 25% of 2/3 not to win the state. Even if Buhari won those SW states, all GEJ would have neede fromthose states was 2/3. Haba you no go school? |
@Jason123, maybe I should break it down for you. 1. Even if Buhari had won all the other five states, GEJ would have still won the lection. Check the result figures. 2. My point is simply that ACN is turning their opposition into a we versus them war. It isn't the other way round. ACN are the real bigots here. 3. There are enough non indegines and Yoruba PDP folks in all the south west states to give GEJ those votes. 4. The reason I keep emphasising the non indigenes point is because you folks think you have a sort of status that really doesn't exist. I don't have a problem with you criticising GEJ, I have a problem with you trying to distract him with your petiness and bad blood. There is BH, PIB, etc that will need to focus on, not some petty building in the presidents village. Haba, it sounds really st.p1.d I must tell you and folks across the country see it as such. Its only in the western press you find those taking it serious |
alj harem: and why did they support GEJ ? Bigotry or what ?Of course I supported him because I needed a change from the majority rule that have ruined the country over 5 decades. You don't think that is a strong reason? Some of you lads have a false sense of importance really. Get it in your thick skull. Hausa/fulani and Yorubas ruined this country for 5 decades. If you think I will be afraid to say that because you will call me a bigot, then you need to have a rethink. This is 2012 and we are very aware and ready now. |
@Amalaaba, with all due respect, there is nothing to discuss in the issue. It is too petty and childish and only portrays the ACN peeps as people who just want to distract the president and cause confusion in the system. There is not an iota of credibility in the issue. |
ilugunboy: Some retards and dunce and finding thief way into NL in huge numbers daily. Saying Yorubas did not count in GEJ run to Presidency is the height of either mischief or plain stupidity.Insult cannot change the facts. Did you notice the difference in numbers between the voters for the presidential and governorship elections? Can you explain that difference? Secondly, if the Yorubas had an agreement to supportt GEJ like some claim, why did Osun not deliver? The fact is clear, the votes GEJ got from the south west were votes from the small number of Yorubas in PDP and the non indigenes who are not necessarily PDP but did support GEJ then. |
jason123: Edicolove, since when did the SW or any zone for that matter, lose control of her political destiny to non-indigenes?I live in Lagos and understand the politics of Lagos. Lagos is not being ruled by the Yorubas because they are more in number but because the non indegenes or other tribes shy away from the politics. My point is very clear. If you make the issue one of Yorubas against the rest of us, you will create a situation where non indigenes will begin to allign themselves against the Yorubas. This is not about insults or name calling. My warning is very clear and about facts. I saw a bit of that in the last elections. The ACN folks at my polling booth clearly told us during the presidential election that it wasn't their day and that they weren't really interested. They boasted that we should come back and see what will happen during the following weeks gov election and true to their words, they turned out en masse. I observed that in at least 3 polling stations. The non indigenes in Lagos far outnumber the indigenes. Places like Surulere, Ketu, AJ, festac, etc are majorly other tribes. That many of them can speak Yoruba doesn't make them Yoruba. The truth is, if you want to criticize GEJ, by all means do. But when you create this situation where everything ACN peeps do is right and whatever GEJ does is wrong and you want to claim you are being objective or that you have Nigerias interest at heart, you are creating a divide that will come back to hunt you. And to think that everyone else cannot see your real agenda and motive is very delusional. This church building issue is sooooo petty that it will really lay ACN out in the sun to dry, believe me. If you think Nigerians from across the country is really going to take this serious, then you have truly lost it. |
One funny thing though is that ACN folks keep claiming they were part of Jonathan's emergence. I live in Lagos so I really wonder at such claim. They never came out to vote during the presidential election. The figures are clear on that. The non indegines in the south west were the votes Jonathan got from there. Their claim is very funny and hypocritical. Truth is PDP does not need yoruba votes to win in 2015. If the yorubas don't change their strategy, they will find themselves completely isolated very very soon. |
ACN and their supporters are beginning to look really d.umb and ridiculous by the day! And to think that it is coming from a party that just spent billions to organise a birthday partty for its leader at a time when this same party keeps telling us most Nigerians are on $2 a day? CAN is truly a party of rascals! |
I have account with four banks. Honestly, first bank is the only sewrious bank in Nigeria. All others are just glorified Osusu houses. When it comes to ATM, all the banks suck. From Zenith to GTB, UBA, Eko, etc, they all suck when it comes to ATM. They all use mostly very old machines. Diamond has started deploying some touch screen machines and they are nice. First bank and Zenith have slightly recent machines. First bank was the first to start ATM machines that can receive cash. GTB started it six months after first bank. But overall, Zenith has the best ATM service. For customer service, I will give it to either UBA or GTB. But I still have issues with GTB trying to automate customer service. There are issues you can't resolve on phone. You need to talk to someone sometimes. The worst banks in terms of service delivery are Eko and Access. Ironically, Oceanic and Intercontoinental where doing fairly well before they were taking over by Eko and Access. |
2 words. Inferiority complex! And Nigerians are plagued with it. This is the only country where people spray money during parties and they don't see anything wrong with it. And these same people complain of armed robbery, kidnapping and so forth. Its a funny country really where people live fake lives. Many own big cars but don't have apartments. And when things go awry, they blame someone in the village. |
alj harem: ^^^^^^The same PDP that chased Ibori out of Nigeria and he had to escape thru ghana to Dubai and the same PDP collaborated with the British police to bring charges against him that nailed him. Some of you are such a bundle of contradiction. When did PDP ever support Ibori? Yaradua supported him persoannly. How is that a PDP support? Now they are trying to blackmail this woman and you say its PDP this and that. Is that why these sam blackmailers even went as far as taken her sons facebook pictures out of context and painting him as something else? Is this the length yoi blackmail gang will go in your quest to wrest power? It is a shame because you lot lack any moral fortitude to claim you are fighting for change or progress. You are simply fighting for your bellies! |
My concern when I read threads like these is that most Nigerians still don't know the problem of Nigeria. So how can they proffer solutions. You ask them about the problem of Nigeria and they start saying stuff like corruption, godfatherism, etc. Anyone who understands little about society knows these are not root causes. They are themselves products of the root problems. My concern is we will never move forward when we cannot identify the real problem. |
