All of you on here ranting with the band wagon, please can you tell me how fuel subsidy benefits the so called average man? I am still waiting for anyone to tell me how it benefits the common man. All I see is insults and negative talk, nothing else.

And please add to that how removing fuel subsidy is more profitable for GEJ than retaining it.

The fact that many are voting corruption only means that Nigerians do not even know what their problem is. A basic understanding of causes and effects will show you that corruption is not a cause but an effect. There are issues that are classified as causes and corruption is not one of them. Corruption itself is a result of something more fundamental. Fundamental issues are things like culture, sense of unity, belief in the entity and such things. They are the real issues, not corruption. Some countries are more corrupt than Nigeria but do not suffer what Nigerians suffer. The former Egyptian president was very corrupt but still ran a very developed and organised country where the people didnt suffer much.

You cannot say a number added in between is wrong because, the system is not a mind reader to know if i am dialling a wrong number or not. I am amazed at your statement. The system selects the first 11 digits. Simple as that.

Secondly, you cannot select a number first, check if it is wrong before discarding the excess numbers. It cannnot work that way because sometimes, the number you are checking for, is on another network. So the system is set to copy the first 11 digits before dialling and it is the receiving server that indicates if a number is wrong or right. And if thenumber does exist, the receiving server will have to connect you because it cannot tell if you are calling the wrong number. The system does not read the human mind to know if the number you dialled is right or wrong. Na wa for you o!

As an ICT person, this is a blunder, not a plus like some of you want to make it look like. Take an example where i wanted to dial 08036774827 and I mistakenly add a wrong number, say 5 in between. That is 080367 5 74827. Now going by what we have now, it will automatically select 08036757482 and ignore the number 7. That is a recipe for confusion. That mean i will dial a wrong person who will anwer his call and probably tell me wrong number. But that again poses a security risk of its own. The system should always flag a wrong number once it is more than the regular number of digits.

The first law states that "The velocity of a body remains constant unless the body is acted upon by an external force" or put another way, "Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. This is one that makes me laugh. Many people kept saying Buhari would have put people behind bars. The presidnet cannot put any one behind bars. The law courts are the only ones empowered to do that. The president cannot even arrest anyone until there is an established case or the courts will throw out the case. That is why the EFCC has been told to do their home work before arresting anyone henceforth else the case will drag on and on in court. You cannot send a man to jail just because public opinion says he is corrupt. You can only send a man to jail iof substantial evidence pronounces him as guilty.

This I cannot defend or refute. I dont know where you got your figures from and I dont know how many people this budget takes care of. But I do know that Aso rock standard is like Nicon Hilton or Sheraton standard. The average cost of a meal in an environment like Aso rock will be in the region of 3 to 5 thousand naira. If you have ever stayed in a 5 star hotel, you will know what I am talking about. Aso rock standard is actually more than a normal 5 start hotel. Presidents of countries use up big budgets for their upkeep. It is the reality of the day. An Obama trip abroad can cost as much as a  whooping 200, 000 dollars a day. You can check that out.

1. PPPRA fixes prices because it is not a deregulated market. They will not be relevant in a deregulated market. There will be a new bill to implement a deregulated market and organisations like PPPRA will not be relevant or will have completely different briefs.
2. Government could not build refineries because they spent all the time doing coups and counter coups and politicking. Even your beloved Buhari did not add anything to the development of the refineries while he was president and while he was petroleum minister. We are still using the refineries built by Gowon and OBJ in his first rule.
3. Refineries take time and mega money to build. It is not like you are building roads.
4. Marketers dont build refineries. Investors and Oil drilling companies build refineries. Marketers are simply that. Marketers!
5. There is nothing in it that is more than it seems. You guys want a change of the country but are not willing to put up with things that will bring change. Where you thinking that change will come easy? It will come with a lot of sacrifices and stuff that will bear on the population. But there are decisions that must be made and actions that must be taking and some of us support it because we think long term not immediate gains

Dont exhibit Ur ignorance. Prices don't go up in a deregulated market. They go down because of competition. The telecoms market is a good example. Deregulation produces competition which produces a price war and prices go down, not up. Fuel may never sell for more than N80 in a deregulated market. Maybe a little bit higher when it starts but it will then come down as investors build new refineries and the competition increases. There is nothing like cabal in a deregulated market. Why has the cabal not conspired to increase telecom prices if it is that simple?

Why do you guys enjoy peddling rumours? There are plans to deregulate the oil sector but no one has announced how much fuel will sell after deregulation so where did you guys get the 142 or 150 figures from? The price will simply be determined by several market forces including local refineries capacity and others. Why do you guys enjoy peddling falsehood about your country? It is sad. God bless Nigeria and if you dont like Nigeria, please relocate. We dont need your evil wishes.

Just to add that Lybia and Saudi both produce and refine crude oil and have refineries working at full capacity. That is exactly what will happen to Nigeria when we have refineries that can cater for the nations needs.

Secondly, It is funny how some claim here that the reason GEJ wants subsidy out is because he is going to benefit from the removal. Tell me which one is easier, to connive with the oil importers and siphon the country or to allow the money into the countries accounts and siphon the country?

It is obvious that keeping subsidy will benefit GEJ more than removing it. It is much easier for him to grant his associates import license and loot monies than for him to allow the money back into the system and loot.

It is very easy to post sentiments and get a band wagon effect of people hailing you as sensible. But that still will not make the sentiments fact. Even adding insults to your post and doing a lot of name calling will not make it fact. The facts are simple.

1. There is fuel subsidy in Nigeria and it was started by the military. It was a wrong solution to a serious problem. It was a political quick fix. We are still suffering from it till date.
2. The masses does not benefit from fuel subsidy. Fuel subsidy benefits the fuel importers and marketers. Buying fuel at a rate cheaper than what obtains abroad is not a benefit if he money that is used to provide the fuel at that rate is money that should have been used to build roads, hospitals, schools, etc. Some of you talk like the money that will be accrued from the removal of subsidy will automatically go into the presidents pocket. These money will be shared across all tiers of government to enhance development. So even state like Lagos and the rest o the south west will have increased allocations.
3. The money the FG pays as fuel subsidy is not free money. It is money meant for other aspects of the economy/society. There is nothing like free money in economics. One mans gain is another mans loss. Basic economics.
4. The contractors importing fuel are not committing fraud as some try to paint. They are only doing business. The system provides them with the loophole to exploit and they are doing just that. Technically, they are on point. They are not breaking any laws. The only way to check them is not to give them that loophole in the first place.
5. The whole problem is Nigeria is the government handout mentality that most of you show in your posts. This government "handout" mentality is what is killing the country. Corruption trives because of this mentality. Some of you just blab all day about corruption without having a clue of how corruption really works. You think politicians just walk up to government and collect ghana must go bags or what? If that is your reasoning, then you are way off. Corruption thrives because of the government "handout" mentality many of you have.
6. You say government should just cover the loopholes. Some of you know how to issue commands to government without a clue of our to run anything. Buy fuel at very cheap price in Nigeria, drive across the border to chad or cameroun or somewhere else and sell at the normal international price. Cool cash. That was the major reason for fuel scarcity for many years. Can the government stop it. Not at all. They can try their best and reduce it, but they can never stop it just like the US cannot stop smuggling of drugs and people across its borders. Even with their drones.
7. Fuel subsidy is one of the evils that have lingered for a long time in Nigeria and it must come to an end. But the fact is, for government to stop it, they must put certain things in place.

a. They must get the refineries working at a reasonable capacity and producing enough fuel to satisfy the country's need.
b. They must make power available. At least on an 18 hours per day nationwide level to start with.
c. They must get agriculture off the ground with food prices down to very cheap levels so the effects of subsidy removal will be minimal.

The assumption that once subsidy is removed, fuel will sell at N142 is false. In a deregulated market, fuel prices will be based on market forces. The key is for our refineries to work at full capacity. With our refineries working at full capacity, we can have competitive pricing and fuel can sell for as low as N80. That is why I stressed that the refineries must work and must be upgraded. This is what obtains in other oil producing countries. They do not subsidies the products for their citizens, rather, they produce and refine enough quantities for their countries so the prices are down in those countries. Please it is important that if we love our country, we stay objective and find solutions through dialogue. Not propagating sentimental opinions as facts and name calling with a view to bullying others into accepting our assumptions. I am on Glo and I havent experienced any problems at all. I gues it must be affecting some lines or some services I havent had the need to use yet. But overall I think Glo is the fastest yet. I havent used Etisalat though. I know Etisalat customer service is about the best.
