I later asked him if that is how men propose to women in his village and his response was "My father proposed to my mother through NIPOST". And he meant every word." Lol

So ladies and gents, can you make or accept a phone proposal? Lets Discuss

Y are u disguising as a male?

Through text, I don't subscribe to it. Through call, yes. Depending on his location and situation.

As he did in Telecom, you are just like my illiterate friend that keep saying OBJ brought mobile phone to Nigeria
OBJ had nothing to do with mobile telecom than to issue licences, nothing to take credit for ,mobile phone is just like plasma TV and AKT Bulb,it is millennium technology

If you think he has nothing to do with bringing Telecom to Nigeria, then you are more illiterate than your illiterate friend. So Telecom and the laws that guide its operations and every other things got here by random event?

Do you know the number of investment that that man attracted? Nigeria was $59b when he came to power. He left when the GDP was $275b. That's 366% increase in 8 years. Since he left, we have only struggle to grow by 60%.

Car Talk / Re: Can You Buy This Car For N1.9 Million by ehinmowo: 1:28am On Sep 13, 2021
ab1x:

Your opinion and that alone does not count as everything has to do with the exchange rate. You need to be in touch with the reality on ground. There are lot of things involved in importing a car from US to Nigeria. Clearing for underage car is between 480 to 500K alone

Not to mention shipping from US to Nigeria.

Shipping for Texas is 1130 while from other state is $1030

You need someone to drive the car to port; they mostly collect between $200 to $500 depending on your negotiation power

Another cost is the cost given to the person that you used his or her account to purchase the car. They collect between $150 to $200

There are some instance that you will purchase cars on auction as buy and drive and at the end of the day, when you go for pick up, the car might be having issues or may not even start and you need to send further fees to them

When cars are purchased from auction take for instance at $1350, coparts will add additional fees to it like $450 to $500

When the cars reach port again after paying for clearing, the agent might tell you that the battery is not starting or the oil is short, they may even remove stuff from the car that you will need to replace etc.

Ask from someone who is in the business and see if my stated assertion are either true or false

Goodluck in getting the car at 700k

I am not disputing you one bit. All these process you listed are true for newer cars. If I don't have enough money to get newer ones, I am will be amiss to buy 2001 car for 1.9m. Are u kidding me? If dem like make cost of bringing it here reach 5m.
Politics / Re: VAT Row: FIRS Workers Fear Cut In Salaries, Bonuses by ehinmowo: 6:30pm On Sep 12, 2021
Modrov:

Basically, at the end of the day, making states collect VAT is not going to benefit people.

1.Let's assume that ALL the states where alcohol is drunk collect VAT on alcohol consumed only in their state. At the end of the day, some states may decide that alcohol VAT is not earning them enough money, and then they may enact VAT increases, which leads to high prices for alcohol in some states...hits people's pockets.

Then there is the fact that Lagos is collecting VAT on monies paid at the alcohol company's HQ...that's another taxation...plus FG is still collecting its own.

2.In the telecom sector, let's assume that VAT is being collected only on calls made in each state. A state can decide that VAT collected from callis made in the state are too low...which could lead to increase in VAT. Guess who would be paying the price....all of us that don't live in the states concerned ...via higher VAT. Again, Lagos is collecting VAT on monies paid in their HQ.

3. Bread is eaten in Nigeria, and flour used is made in some states. Now under your new regime...VAT is charged on flour made in those states plus VAT is charged per loaf of bread sold. Price of bread goes up to cover the charges.

And so on and so forth.

Inasmuch as Wike and Sanwo-OLu have raised an important point...the remedy is worse than the disease it was meant to solve.

You are trying but not there yet. There aretoo many assumptions in your analysis. First, tax is one of the tools used to attract investors. Every learned tax experts knows that if you tightened your tax rate too much, you will lose business. I am working at a company that moves her headquarter from Lagos to Ogun because Ogun has a better tax holiday. Most tech companies today are moving to China because of better tax system. If you have a liberal tax system, you will get more. If you tightened it because u need more money, you will lose it.

That been said, everybody should really be concerned about how their state will collect their own VAT and leave those who has chatted a course on how they would alone. Nigeria is filled with "feeding bottle governors", who has no iota of innovation and wealth creation.

Lagos has spent billions in the entertainment industry and she us reaping billions in tax from that industry. Likewise other businesses. Now it will be very unfair for a state like Kano that ban circular songs to be sharing tax from that industry.

The only bottleneck I was expecting you to say is trans-state problem. If every state decided to collect tax on goods that passes through her state, then people farther away from the sea, AKA, northerners will have major problem. Because price of items will be very high by the time it gets up their. Conversely, agro products which are the main thing y'all supply down south are not VATable.

This is where collaboration comes in. Especially in trans-state tax. All SW States are working on harmonizing VAT. This may include expunging trans-state VAT within the region. This could be extended to other states. Such that if goods are coming from a particular state and vice-versa, no trans-state VAT. In all, this issue requires diplomacy. State governors MUST collect their own tax (VAT), no doubt. And anybody that is against that must be daft. But they need to sit down and straighten grey areas.

Politics / Re: A. Rufa’i: Over 60,000 AK-47 Rifles In 120 Terrorists’ Camps by ehinmowo: 5:47pm On Sep 12, 2021
Currently, the price of AK47, and its variants is around N850,000 to N1.2m. If we assume an average AK costs 500k. The total Naira value of AK in the hands of "bandits" is about N30b.

These folks have heavier as well as lighter weapons. Their total arsenal then could be estimated to cost over N50b. This is more than the defense budget of many African countries (apart from the top 20s). This is not the kind of money you make from selling bovines. This is business. People are cashing out.

How would the state collect their own VAT? If I buy N100 MTN recharge card in sokoto, my VAT is N1 which at the end of the month FIRS go to the MTN to collect this N1 in the head office in lagos. If VAT is going to start , it means , it should be calculate according to state consumption not according to present of the head office, you will see that, Lagos and rivers may ended up getting nothing. My problem with some of you is that your sentiment have overide you judgement

If you blv that those states wouldn't get nothing, then it shouldn't bother you lots!

There is no state with financial muscle like Lagos. In 2015, CBN said about 60% of all monies in circulation were in Lagos. It is not a question of who is stronger, Lagos can convenient carry 50% of Nigerian states on her backs. But other states have become docile, non-creative and leaching on few other productive states.

I am a data analyst. I work with media agency. We have to classify Lagos as a zone during media spent and spot analysis. Even with that, she usually surpass all other zones. Your recharge card that you bought in your state can easily be calculated and taxed in your state. I was working in a Conglomerate whose headquarter is in Lagos. I know for a fact that Oyo State govt collects tax on our branch in the state.

Una main problem is capacity. Y'all have been lazing around for too long, leeching on others while destroying businesses and innovation in the name of religion and did not see need to develop a working system. This might help y'all to do that. And Lagos can help you to set up a robust tax regime for a fee.

....life has been difficult to say the least, ever since I moved to lagos after finishing my nysc in March, I thought hoped things will be better but it only became...
Well let's leave that. I just want advice, that's why I am here.am currently squatting with my elder brother and his fiance in a room and palor self con. They are getting married by December. I have alot of burden to them, they don't need to tell me I know. But what will a man do. I forgot to add am 27 years old. I studied mechanical engineering (HND). My hands are really tied right now. I left a crazy job(30k/months) that I was using to sustain my self. Don't judge me, am not lazy. I left because of security reasons. Plus It was a slave kind of work. Presently am hooked. I don't know where and what to do. I currently don't have up to 5k in my account self. As I no gree do yahoo aka jazz. Na wetin my eyes dey see be this.

...any way my gist is getting to long. There is an man that has always been a father to me. He helped me through school. I really thank him. As in he has done alot. The man just like me for no reason.and has been helping me since I was young. Anyway he called me and then after explaining to him how things has been for him.

He called again after a month. He said he has a deal for me.

The deal is that, he wants to sponsor me to go to canada. I forgot to add, he stays in Austria. Him and his family. So the deal is about 2.5 million naira, so he said he going to work everything for me that includes international passport, visa, airplane ticket, accommodation and also the package includes work also. but the deal is that. He will pay about. 850k. To get me there first. Then when am there and have started working I'll pay 1.8 million to the agency $4k.

So that's the deal. The 850k he is just using that to help me.actually he himself he paying 650k to the agency and giving me 200k as pocket money. Then when I get there I can work and give the agency the remaining 1.85 million.

So please guys, what to do you think. My fears is going to a country I don't know anyone at all, there is so much risk involved canada far o and will I be able to pay up the money. I don't want to owe gbese that I can't pay back.

What do you guys think?
Should I go ahead? Or remain in naija?

I have so much fears, that's why am scared of going, what if I go broke?

I have from now till Monday to decide, the processing is starting on Monday

I was thinking he said you would pay him 50% of your earning for life. What sre u still about?

The location and currency matters, outside the top 5 leagues there is a diverse change in payment elsewhere. Asian and Arab may pay differently though but, in Nigeria 50M is good amount of money here.

If players are paid 200 M Venezuela bolivar in Venezuela vs N1M in Nigeria, forget exchange rate but, location and value in the area many will likely opt for Nigeria.

50m per league season is ok in Nigeria? I fear who no fear u o. Let's even assume they are not flying, how much do you think we take care of 35 people for a year moving across the country? And that is just a fraction of club expenses. Revenue from ticket is almost zero.

Nigeria league needs serious investment.

In 2018, Plateau United won the league and she was given 50m. Is that enough to transport the squad by air across the country for 6 months? That's not up what some players get per week in Europe.
