anigbajumo:Let's start from the beginning!! Sanusi Lamido was just a political CBN governor!! Most people talk about the allegation he raised about NNPC only to the extent that the story was pleasant or unpleasant to their senses or just follow media headlines, facebook and twitter hash tags and that's all!! Many people saw Sanusi as the opposition in government and for this he was loved by the APC meanwhile Sanusi was a very temperamental fellow; smiled when he was in the mood and screamed blood on the floor when he wasn't!! He was one of the folks who recommended and almost violently supported the TSA policy as far back as Goodluck's era; he bashed the National assembly, openly calling them corrupt - to the point that the NASS demanded an apology from the fellow and stopped short of asking Goodluck to fire him; he bashed Goodluck outright saying he patted corruption on the back and that GEJ lacked the will power to fight corruption because he was trying to appeal to power bloc against the next election!! The Crux of this particular comment is to clear the air on Sanusi's NNPC allegation!! Sanusi never said that $20Bn was stolen by NNPC or its officials!! In fact for those who know the facts, Sanusi wrote a letter to Goodluck - that was mysteriously leaked to the Media - that NNPC top officials pocketed $49bn!! A move which was supposed to give impetus for his demand/support for the TSA - where all public funds are domiciled/held by the CBN!! Most Nigerians screamed for blood and called for a probe; the National Assembly summoned him immediately to come and explain before all Nigerians how this happened!! For me; I found it unbelievable till now! Why? $49Bn is not money you put inside envelope and put inside your back pocket or money whey you go pick for ground whey fall for bus stop or junction!!!! Ibori was accused of laundering £150m in 8 years - that is a little under #30bn - then $49bn vanished under far less than 1 year - that is #8tn, 8 trillion Naira according to the exchange rate of that year which is 12 trillion Naira now!! - Also, there was a Finance Minister in the Person of Nkonjo Iweala who was also the Coordinating minister of the economy she wasn't aware, there was Allison Madueke, Petroleum Minister, who had direct oversight function of NNPC, she no know!! Its is now CBN governor, in the person of Sanusi, who is now aware how money was stolen in NNPC; what a miracle!! When he was asked how the money was stolen by National assembly on National TV, he simply said that it was $20bn and the money wasn't remitted to CBN and he made his assumption based on the cash found in the bank account where money is wired to CBN! Sanusi made 2 things clear 1.) NNPC doesn't remit all cash returns from crude oil proceeds as they arrive. 2.) NNPC is just a parastatal of Ministry of petroleum and must be made to account for monies before they are spent like every other parastatal. NNPC stated that they have many accounts that they work with and that making that assumption based on just one account wasn't proper!!! NNPC made the following points clear 1.) It was not an ordinary parastatal 2.) NNPC enabling laws - created with respect to the sensitive nature of NNPC operations - made it possible for NNPC to spend cash on operational matters above what you would find in a regular parastatal! 3.) NNPC could not afford to wait - like other parastatals every 3 months - for budgetary allocation else the economy will grind to a halt!! 4.) NNPC was only obilgated to remit met earnings after deducting cost of operation according to enabling laws establishing NNPC; See article below!! http://www.punchng.com/news/nnpc-can-spend-part-of-oil-revenue-agf/ Investigation was ordered and PriceWaterCooper audit report was released into the public domain; but why hasn't there been a media hype about it since the report was released? Why hasn't APC/Buhari promised to apply recommendations by PWC!! This is because if Buhari follows the recommendations, it will make Nigerians vote for another change come 2019! Also the report revealed various errors made by both National assembly, Presidency and in turn NNPC!! The report calls the entire subsidy regime unsustainable and predicts that in time, NNPC won't even have enough to fund operations and remit to the Treasury in some years to come!! Also presidency/NASS was indicted, an excerpt from the article is shown below: "Furthermore, Kerosene subsidy was not appropriated for in the 2012 and 2013 FGN budget. However, the Presidential Directive was not gazetted and there has been no other legal instrument cancelling the subsidy on DPK. In a Presidential media chat on 24 February 2014, The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Ebele Jonathan, asserted that kerosene subsidies have not been disallowed. We, therefore, recommend that an official directive be written to support the legality of the kerosene subsidy costs. This should also be followed by adequate budgeting and appropriation for the costs." Yet NNPC paid for subsidy, a move law makers call illegal and demands that NNPC should remit the cash it paid on kerosene subsidy, meanwhile there was no clear directive to NNPC to stop subsidy on Kerosene as the same law makers will still ask NNPC to answer as to why kerosene is unavailable, so NNPC paid and added such cost to it operational overhead! http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/04/nnpc-act-gives-it-a-blank-cheque-to-spend-without-limit-or-control-pwc/ PWC cited administrative infractions by the NASS and NNPC but no $20bn missing!! NNPC was asked to remit cash that was even in it coffers tied to LNG related operations! And that was about a billion dollars - $1.48bn; which is even old story!! So what is this story about $20bn dollars at NNPC again?? |
The greatest problem for Former President Goodluck Jonathan (and the greatest blessing for His political Opposition) was insecurity as well as GEJ own unconventional style/approach in the area of corruption!! I remember a media chat he gave back in the day on the corruption issue and it also altered my mindset on corruption!! He said for man to be charged for financial misappropriation or corruption in a law court; you would have to have enough weight of evidence as close to as much as 80 if not 90 to 95% enough to secure a conviction else you would lose cause the person will go to court with their own lawyers too; then there is also the question of how much you will spend prosecuting such a case. Looking at the weight of evidence you have at your disposal and the expenditure you have to make going to court; is it worth proceeding to court? Why not improve the system and channel that money you want to spend on prosecution on other productive endeavours? The DFID spends £750,000 annually; money given to the UK to help fight corruption perpetuated by foreign government officials on UK soil!! But even the DFID were upset that they had to Spend over £5,000,000 investigating only ibori's case (that is money they would ordinarily budget for UK police 4 over 6 years), an investigation that was done following this guy on 5 different continents, spanning 10years - you are an EFCC agent, tell your supervisor during valentine period that you want to tail Ibori to Hawaii and ask for estacode and see if you will not spend valentine inside cell - this money doesn't include what was spent on Ibori's UK trial £40,000 a week. In all, an estimated £14,000,000 was spent prosecuting only ibori; a figure in today's money which represents the 10 year recurrent capital expenditure of all the anti corruption agencies in Nigeria!! http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ibori-bags-13-years-jail-term-in-uk/113990/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17728357 http://thenationonlineng.net/iboris-conviction-gulped-14m-says-senate/ https://www.nairaland.com/2171287/iboris-conviction-gulped-14m-says http://antifraudintl.org/threads/james-ibori.67623/ http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/may/22/met-officers-nigerian-embezzler-conviction?newsfeed=true Question, why not stigmatise the fellow using Civil society groups or media through politics to discourage the man from public office in the future, Strengthen local and National institutions to take action without direct influence from the executive arm of government and then use the money to actually better the lives of Nigerians? The first time I heard a spokesman for the Presidency say that it won't be stampeded into taking a decision on a matter; it was during GEJ administration, in the wake of the bullet proof scandal!! This language was borrowed by Buhari's Spokesman as well as Lai Mohammed concerning Buhari slow response to appointing ministers claiming it was a decision made in the Spirit of anti-corruption! For those who didn't know, Stella Oduah as aviation minister was actually an asset to this country; one reason why she was tagged as Goodluck's favourite minister - please do not take my word for it! Asides the corruption scandal over the bullet proof cars, find our her achievements for yourself, from cancellation of lopsided multi-billion Naira concessional agreements that wasn't in Nigeria's interest, battling for fair flight frequencies on international routes like LOS-LHR/LGW (lagos to london) etc. It was in the course of her tenure that Nigeria for the first time in its history gained Presidency of ICAO - the international civil aviation Organisation - a big plus for Nigeria!! Funny enough, as much as I do not approve of how it was purchased, the bullet proof cars were bought for use of delegates both local and international of ICAO and other visiting International Aviation agency representatives!! But even as much as she was an asset to Goodluck, the fellow after the heat raised by civil society and Political opposition in the media died down, simply reshuffled cabinet and sent her home!! It was only when the cabinet reshuffle was announced that I remembered that media chat and smiled!! For some folks; that action promotes corruption, but when you know what your priorities are and the resources at your table then you ask yourself the right question!! If you were goodluck's adviser, would you advise him to ask EFCC to investigate IBORI and spend £14,000,000 prosecuting him - a figure in today's money which represents the 10 year recurrent capital expenditure of all the anti corruption agencies in Nigeria - in the midst of a country filled with hundreds of his type because you want to please both media, opposition and civil society groups? Even buhari - Mr Anti-corruption - quickly change mouth after swearing in and said only GEJ's administration will be probed; and even at that, he cannot afford to have time for everybody!! But even he too is applying too much executive influence as opposed to allowing judicial and anti-corruption institutions to grow!! So the fact that Goodluck doesn't practically lynch suspected looters from office - like OBJ did matching out Tafa Balogun in handcuff barefoot or his style of dealing with corruption is unconventional doesn't means he promotes corruption! Understand the man's view on the subject; then you do your own investigations and you will see that he doesn't even treat anti-corruption lightly!! They are those who argue that this tactics of openly disgracing looters and prosecuting them at all cost will discourage but unfortunately they are so wrong!! Chinese laws are one of the stiffest in the world in the area of anti-corruption; with punitive measures ranging from Life-imprisonment to capital punishment (the death sentence)!! But public officials still steal in china, if the possibility of dying or life in prison isn't enough to discourage crime then what is? In fact, there are even alleged cases in China where people of influence pay for plastic surgery to be done on people who will be made to look like them and then pay such people to serve their sentences in prison - the only place where such allegations have ever been made is china which even has the stiffest punishment so think about!! From former Chinese President's Hu chin Tao Vice to Hu chin tao initial anointed political successor within the communist party Bo Xilai - infact Bo Xilai's wife was first accused of murder the Bo Xilai himself was accused of corruption - and even the means with which his trial which lasted 5 days is suspect; purportedly used to create for Hu's Personal choice in Current president Li Xi ping!!! A trial where you are not allowed to appoint your own personal lawyer to defend you; underhand tactics - which are against chinese law - used to brown nose the guy out of the Presidency and send him to prison for life!! View article below http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/aug/27/bo-xilai-china-trial-smokescreen-president My conclusion; the fact that Goodluck's approach to corruption is unconventional doesn't means he promotes corruption! Understand the man's view on the subject and gain insight into how he chose to run government! You will learn leadership at a different level, leadership that was consistent from the first day he was sworn in till he handed over office!! |

@All......In Conclusion; whether it is true, or whether it is false is First and foremost irrelevant!! First and Foremost! What is relevant - and that is for those that look up to politically constituted authority in government for leadership - is the approach that the Presidency is taking towards the issue!! Everyone knows that as a standard of life; Christians are naturally peaceful when issues relating to their faith take centre stage as opposed to muslims who - if care is not taken - violently oppose - without apology - issues relating to their religion especially when non -muslims are involved!! As responsible leaders; since it involves the Wife of the President, - who in some way represents the first family - her media aide should have been made to deliver a statement apologising for the mis-communication or misinformation and correct the wrong impression assuming it was false!! It is not only when you hear PDP or Goodluck or Jonathan or Dame Patience or corruption that media aide should be seen to talk!! I can still remember as a child - then I was just about 12 or 13 years old; I was going somewhere in lagos, playing at the same time - you know how kids can be sometimes climbing heights and jumping down to ease boredom while trekking - when I climbed the edge of a very smooth high platform! What I didn't know then - and I didn't realise it until months later - was that the height I climbed, which was a border for a small smoothly cemented and surface clearing was a muslim prayer ground!! I was almost lynched by a small group of young men; I didn't know and nobody took the patience to tell or teach me!! I just escaped for dear life, with folks saying "wetin e thief"!! So it is strange - to me anyway - that people who value their religion so dearly will take it so lightly when they hear other religious "expressions" trampled!! I am well aware that sacred books of islam have made it clear that; Muslims are compelled to be at peace with people who allow them practice their religion openly and without fear - a gift that the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W) never really had!! Unfortunately in today's Nigerian and some parts of the World - not all parts anyway - the reverse is usually the case. So whether it is true or false; the silence of any representative of the first family is a big Zero - if not minus - for leadership and a big plus for certain opposition (who don't mind stirring up religious strife - like buhari then with his "baboon blood soaking" analogy when he lost under the CPC)!!! The big questions for now is what do we expect from the first family - because this involves the first family directly and not the presidency!!?? Also what does this portend for freedom of religion in the villa!!?? Also what does this say about leadership in the corridors of power!!?? Also, is there a possibility that freedom of expression is hampered!!?? because I have only encountered this story on Dailypost and nowhere else; yet this should be an issue of National discuss because the Presidential villa and all its content "belongs to everybody and it belongs to Nobody"?? |
MOBBDEEP:Hmmmmm..........Nice Story!! Wonderful testimony as well as clean pictures!! It an awful lot of detailed explanation on your experience with Kakakibuy except just one thing gets my attention!! For some reason, your spec sheet for the car doesn't really rhyme with the pictures! Especially the part where it says " 6 CD changer & DVD/Navigation player " Hmmmmmmmmm..................bit curious; especially since it almost looks like you are the OP for the thread as opposed to kakakibuy being the OP!! Hmmmmmmmm *******Turns around, walks away********* |
Below are excerpts of an article culled from the Guardian as written by Abraham Ogodo!! Read, write, cull and comment as you see fit!! If you can; stick to the facts but if it must happen - a fight that is - remember the Nairaland rules and have a clean fight!! THE battle against corruption has become the sole purpose of the Buhari Presidency. It is being prosecuted as if all other things that define good governance shall follow automatically, as soon as victory is proclaimed. Since it is so, the appointment of ministers in this month of September, which has only 10 days to finish, is no longer necessary. The entire business of government has been consolidated into a single effort – war against corruption. One man or at most one ministry to be called Ministry of War Against Corruption can do the whole job. News that Buhari has branded ministers as noise makers is very encouraging too. No serious war anywhere in the world is fought and won with noise makers. In the spirit of the new revelation, a proposal for amendment of the operating constitution to make the appointment of ministers by a sitting president discretionary can be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration. I am not even too sure if the NASS itself will fit properly into the new order. The members are even noisier than the ministers. They are rascally and violent too; often using fists like junior school pupils instead of debates to settle simple issues. They are also very lazy. They work for one week and go on recess for four weeks. This war against corruption is neither for noise makers, rascals nor lay-abouts. All of this considered, we can push for another amendment of the constitution to operate this democracy without the NASS. It sounds alarming, but since kings can legitimately kill to survive in a Machiavellian setting, we cannot go wrong if we allow the robust end of achieving a permanently corruption-free Nigeria to push us to disband the useless National Assembly for good. With PMB, we have one in a millennium chance to catch all the thieves in Nigeria and change our circumstances. And so, if he asks to shut down the banking system, as he has done, to catch thieves who hide their stolen dollars in domiciliary accounts, he should be obliged. He is working to preserve the life of Nigeria. On that note alone, the threat by one self-appointed global regulator called JP Morgan to punish Nigeria on account of Buhari’s approach should be completely ignored. JP Morgan or whatever it is called is not a very reliable teacher. It teaches nonsense and this has serially got it into trouble with the authorities in Washington DCand for which it has paid billions of dollars as fines. Besides, what does JP Morgan know that our own dear JP Clark or any other JP in Nigeria does not know better? And by the way, who made JP Morgan judge over Nigeria that is presided over by PMB? The Central Bank as directed by PMB (since there is no finance minister, till perhaps September 30), is doing a fantastic job. The point is that when there is too much money in the system and the citizens are behaving like lunatic astronauts, going to the moon to build houses, the thing to do is a serious mop up to precipitate a liquidity squeeze that will instill some sanity. This is what Buhari has done. It is a fundamental micro-economic principle and one does not need a certification by Harvard Business School to understand it. I don’t understand why JP Morgan, which should know better, is nagging over this like a bad house wife. People are talking of absence of an economic blue print in the Buhari’s approach. It sounds too much like a cliché. Na blue print we go chop? We have had too many blue prints that led nowhere and if Buhari, in his original Fulani wisdom, is coming with a black or blank print to run, all by himself, Africa’s biggest economy, he should be offered a chance to prove how and why blank or black is better than blue. More than this, results do not change if the processes remain constant. It is like hoping to land in Japan when the air plane in which you are moving is headed west of longitude 0. Put differently, Buhari is saying there is just one effective wayof tackling the challenges facing Nigeria. That is, if Nigerians have become monkeys because there are peanuts to eat in the garden, they will return to humans if the nuts get mopped up. The scenario can be re-adjusted for the same effect. If what is available at current consumption is too little to last because of greed, a way out is conservation or more specifically, starvation to gain sustainability. I add however, that neither of the approaches shows creativity. Both are sanctimonious posturing meant to morally rearm Buhari as a leader for the moment. In the first instance, it could very well be that Nigerians have become primates because there is no human meal available in the garden, while conservation in the second instance does not approximate wealth creation or material progression. A man does not starve to death his own children to make a point about prudence and disciplined consumption. Rather, he should double efforts to increase his resource base to meet current consumption level while he isolates and deals with the bad children. Locking down the entire economy in search of thieves or in the name of instilling fiscal discipline is myopic, to put it mildly. Corruption is not an economic activity. It is a crime against mainly the economy and killing the economy because of it amounts to double jeopardy. The best approach is to isolate corruption for extermination, while the economy is allowed to breathe. Buhari may not know this, which is quite unfortunate. But even more disturbing is the fact that those who should whisper to him quietly, preferably in the Daura dialect of Fulfulde, for easy understanding and assimilation, have allowed themselves to be mobilized into acrowd of frenzy supporters, who promote every miss step of the president as a new and effective style of catching thieves. Buhari’s interpretation of his role as a change agent even at 72 is not helping matters. He thinks change should be measured by the degree of the unconventionality of his action and so the more bizarre the act, the bigger the change content. As it is, a lot of quarters need a re-orientation to fit into the prevailing mode of doing things. It is the reason the lamentation of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) is not invoking any sympathy and empathy in high places. The association is lamenting a drastic loss of industrial capacity in the last three months, due mainly to the CBN’s monetary policy to stem the slide of the naira and which has made access to forex to fund the importation of industrial spares and consumables most herculean. The new rule is that everything can wait for corruption to be killed first. The Treasury Single Account (TSA) is also part of the efforts to kill corruption. The banks have been totally drained of public sector funds, which have been migrated to the Central Bank for safekeeping. Buhari is making it look as if the value of money is in its physicalworth and not in the value money can create. What is the logic in saving money in the Central Bank when retail banks are looking for money to fund the economy? This is besides the effects of the TSA policy on agencies like the NNPC, FAAN, NIMASSA and others, which in operation and structure, are not any different from the organised private sector and cannot in all sincerity, be made to wait for budget approvals by the National Assembly before they work. Today, the statistics across board are frightening. There is growing unemployment, declining industrial capacity utilization, disinvestment, sliding value of the domestic currency and the stock market, among other gloomy indices. But we have been conditioned to give Buhari space and free hand to effect a change and to also hack down anything, person or idea that constitutes or that may constitute a hindrance in the task to kill corruption in Nigeria. And this includes the economy, which must be killed if it constitutes itself into a hindrance in the path of change http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/09/backlash-killing-the-economy-to-kill-corruption/#.Vf7Bu7uM7IN.facebook |

@gbosaa Actually what you call middle belt is what the constitution refers to as North Central. The North consists of North west, East and Central!! They are not regarded as core north - and were discrimated by the core north in the times past - but they aren't accepted by the south that's why they choose to call themselves "Middle Belters" as a way of distancing thenselves from the North but the social languages spoken in some of these states for ease of communication - since there own indigenous languages are tto much and restrictive - is hausa !!! |
@Demdem et al Wike even follow buhari's pattern where he setup both a transitional committe and Inauguration committee View the details in article below http://dailypost.ng/2015/04/29/may-29-rivers-governor-elect-wike-inaugurates-transition-inauguration-committees/ This article below was written as at May 9 (by this time we already know who the governor-elects are)!! The secretary of Wike's Transitional Committee decried Amaechi's refusal to forge a transitional committee but went to Abuja to be dragging Namandi Sambo for handover notes. At a time this fuelled speculation that amaechi wanted to turn Rivers upside down and the major place where Rivers people can seek reprieve (the Judiciary within the state) is dead because Amaechi refuse to appoint Chief Justice all in the name of politics http://www.informationng.com/2015/05/were-ready-to-hand-over-to-wike-on-may-29-amaechi.html |
@Demdem Hmmmmm........Premium times!!! I believe the problem with my statements/comment is that I wasn't specific; I spoke vaguely, assuming that everyone knew what I was talking about !! Let me also state that I fully appreciate the passion with which you may have set up this thread!! That I may not bear the same height of your passion doesn't make my words thrash; I am known by most folks for taking a lick at sentiments/biases and sticking to the facts!! Neither can any comment posted by me here be rightly described as inappropriate or criminal!! To criminalise my comments is to say I have breached the law which to the best my knowledge has not taken place. I don't want to believe that you are the only person in the world who doesn't know that Amaechi never setup a transitional committee; the one raised in which former deputy governor was a member was setup by Wike and not Amaechi. President Goodluck setup a transitional committee headed by Namandi Sambo, his VP, to handle smooth transition on his end, APC appointed Ahmed Joda to lead a transition committee on their end; there is no news article anywhere in the world before May 29 where Amaechi claimed he setup by himself a Transitional Committee (except the one you showed me just now which was raised to deny allegations of misappropriation raised by wike and its dated june 2015 which is after handover.) I am aware that Ikuru - the former deputy - wasn't appointed by Amaechi so do your investigation and get your facts right; Ikuru is even among those insisting that Amaechi must be probed because he didn't give handover notes. In all news articles online and off-line (because I searched before I chose to reply you), Amaechi is only known to reply through statements and never directly that his handover notes are ready and he is committed to smooth transition; he never stated that he setup a committee at any time! Wike claimed that he/Ikuru even sent messages through DHL - if this was untrue DHL could have easily presented a refutal - at different times to amaechi but he won't talk with wike!! Now I ask you; if of a truth you have your facts right, when did amaechi administration deliver handover notes? At what date and time and in which press conference anywhere in the world was it announced that Amaechi or his representative gave handover notes to wike? If Amaechi gave handover notes, why did The Rivers State House of Assembly pass a resolution directing the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Emmanuel Aguma, to take legal steps to compel the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to present his (former governor) handover note to the Governor Nyesom Wike administration on the 16th of June 2015 (take note that this is after may 29)? Look at this article in punch below for full details of that sitting http://www.punchng.com/news/rivers-assembly-tackles-amaechi-over-handover-note/ On May 28 Goodluck delivered handover notes to Buhari; you can see it in Premium times below - even though I am not much of a fan of that magazine! Please show me the article where Amaechi is shown to have delivered handover notes and I will rest my case in that area. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/183804-breaking-jonathan-formally-submits-handover-notes-to-buhari.html Also you spoke about the issues of Okorocha - that deceived NJC - being a wike loyalist as being part of the reason the why there was a disagreement over the court and nothing illegal was done! I will agree in part - as par illegality - because I am yet to fully grasp the total legal ramifications of what happened in Rivers but let start with the facts!! Justice Daisy Okocha is who I believe you wanted to make reference to and not Okorocha; also Okocha didn't need to deceive anybody. The Chief Justice of a state can only be appointed by the Governor of that state, based on the recommendations/confirmation of the NJC and after the candidate has been screened/confirmed by the State house of Assembly; since there was vacuum in that office after Justice Ndu retired August 2013 and Justice Daisy Okocha was the most senior judge of the High Court of Rivers State; NJC recommended her to amaechi for the appointment as the most qualified to handle that office! Instead Amaechi chose to appoint a substantive Chief Judge in the person of Justice Peter Agumagu, who was President of the Customary Court of Appeal who is the oldest serving judge in the entire state though he served strictly in the customary courts - which was against the NJC's recommendation. The NJC went to the National Assembly for Justice Okocha to be screened (since at that time River's House of Assembly was moribund, non-functional and were at war with each other and the National Assembly had to takeover the legislative affairs of Rivers during the period of the impasse)!! Amaechi in response went to court and won a case against the NJC - concerning Agumagu not really being suitable as a customary court judge - and Peter Agumagu was sent for screening before a faction of Rivers House of Assembly loyal to Amaechi (which has never really happened before; rejecting NJC's recommendation is as good as rejecting COREN recommendations or MDCN - Medical and Dental council's recommendation concerning the practice in the name of politics)! In response, NJC suspended Peter Agumagu for defying NJC's directives, Agumagu in turn went to the court - suing NJC - and appealed at the supreme court and had his case thrown of out court for lack of merit!!! To spite the NJC for what they had done - suspending Agumagu -, Amaechi refused to appoint any Chief Justice in the state till he left office. Wike was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Bayelsa state because Amaechi refuse to listen to NJC and the courts in rivers were practically non-functional almost 2years; the State house of assembly was non- functional; to the extent that the National Assembly had to take over legislative business of Rivers State!! It was not until wike entered that both courts and State House of Assembly could function freely without being attacked or with threats to life. So do not fault Justice Daisy Okocha; the bulk stops at amaechi door as the governor in the matter; Amaechi is not a lawyer or a legal professional, why play politics which an appointment relating to the Judiciary in full glare of the world if U truly seek an independent judiciary in your state? The whole episode is clearly enumerated in the premium times article and AITonline below: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/183292-attorney-general-adoke-assigns-bayelsa-chief-judge-to-swear-in-rivers-governor-elect-wike.html http://www.aitonline.tv/post-supreme_court_dismisses_suspended_rivers_cj_s_appeal http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/amaechi-in-a-twist-of-fate-seeks-protection-in-the-same-courts-he-shut-down/218776/ Section 185(2) of the 1999 Constitution states that: “ the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office shall be administered by the Chief Judge of the state or Grand Kadi of Sharia Court of Appeal of the state if any, or President of Customary Court of Appeal of the state, if any, or the person, for the time being, respectively appointed to exercise the functions of any of those offices in any state.” It was on the basis of the provision that the Attorney General of the Federation, Adoke, appointed The Bayelsa State Chief justice to swear in Wike. I am not a Rivers man so I don't have a tribe that I am rooting for or supporting against another but the facts speak for themselves!! No sentiments. Do your own investigations and find out; you don't have to take my word for it!! Another of Amaechi's flops http://talkparlour.com/2015/05/27/channels-tv-yanked-off-rotimi-amaechi-for-breaching-code-of-conduct/ |
drshrewd:At least we know where your loyalties lie; amaechi is your brother and is amiable; wike is not and is un-amiable hence he is a crook!! A man who joined buhari's transitional committee to collect handover notes from jonathan but gave none to wike!! The same man who went to court (that he used thugs to shut down for months because the NJC didn't accept his preferred choice of Chief judge) to stop wike from running a probe on the activities of Rivers government during his tenure but will call Jonathan a thief!! @Demdem and all Please if any person has sound facts on the issue of debate in this thread; present them in an orderly fashion for proper digesting; let's learn something interesting, at least for once |
mustiusman:Not always the case? The rules are the rules and they are followed to letter but in the area of age they are bent from time to time (only if it will promote competition)!! No need for name calling here but I am acquianted with persons who have broken the lower limit age barrier and are currently in the service!! Trouble starts when competition is too high, only then is lower age limit strictly enforced!!! With respect to age, screening out people who are above the stipulated age limit is non-negotiable; but below is flexible!! |
drshrewd:Well informed opinions are a product of information/ facts not fictions nor sentiments!! All of you here mudslinging and calling wike names freely and with ease will never do so if wike was your father; no matter how much you love rivers state nor how long you have lived in rivers state nor how well suited to the discussion your house is in Rivers state nor how much of a crook the fellow is?? The same applies if you are opposed to wike or his or tribe or his political dynasty either by personal opinion or social clime or maybe you are from a different political party/inclination to his; the tendency is to never find anything good in wike to say. So the intelligent and discerning/educated mind has to listen to one or both sides of the story and get the facts and get a grasp of the situation on ground; whether you live in rivers or not doesn't denigrate the facts and neither does calling anyone names, that just betrays your age, level of education and temperament!! One person in this thread has said that the schools are just primary schools but none of you opposed to wike are choosing to confirm or deny it! None of you are telling me governments position on the matter; none of you even seem to give a glimpse or a hint of the framework and financial transactions relating to the contracts around these school before wike and now nor show basic understanding of what ideally government policy should be relating to primary education (at least that way we can be shown that wike is breaking a law); but you know that wike is a crook?? That's a very un-intelligent line of argument even for an adult much less a child; at the worst it is seemingly un-intelligent, at best sentimental!! You are not a government spokesperson; neither have you given me facts that explain why he is owing! All you folks seem to say is that wike is owing; which isn't new!! So what is new?? He is owing, has he denied the debt, has he said he won't pay? At least I am aware that wike had in times past accused the past government of accruing debts to which amaechi denied now it has reared it head here that he was owing contractors?? Contractors handling world class schools; that may or may not probably charge world class fees!! So please, let stick to the facts!! If at all you have a bias or don't particularly like a public figure; you are welcome to express it; you don't owe anyone an explanation neither will you be vilified for it! Its freedom of expression but at least stick to the facts when allegation like this are raised!! I don't particularly like wike as such but, sentiments can never take the place of facts!! Plus this is a fora, its meant for epistles, it makes for an interesting read; you want short notes try bbm or 2go chatrooms!!! |
Demdem:Its Ok! I think Nairaland will be sufficient!! That way everyone on the thread gets to learn the facts and learn to appreciate facts better |
TheGoodJoe:Well the thread topic never pointed to Primary schools it just says beautiful schools in rivers so I assumed that they were public secondary schools!! And yes primary school pupils at the higher classes of primary 5 and 6 can be brought in to give the school a face lift either as a disciplinary measure or as a Civil education stratagem; also I believe either demdem or a Nairalander used the words "Resorting to self-help" somewhere in a comment meaning its possible for kids to be involved!! I gave my comment with a clear indication that the position of the Wike Administration is unknown and as such it will be wiser to here his side of the impasse before breaking legs, heads and hearts jumping to conclusions!! But if you do have more details on the issue, then enlighten us more so that we can have a grasp of what's going all!! Are the "Amaechi World Class Schools" only primary as your post suggests or both primary and secondary?? If they are primary, then the entire thread was raised in error as Basic education i.e. Public Primary education is the exclusive preserve of the local government with government offering a supporting role (I believe the ratio should be either 60% for local and then 40% for the state)!! Wike shouldn't be the target of this, if its primary schools shown here, its the local government that should be called to answer!! Or am I getting things wrong? In any case; I am diligently watching this thread for a comment stating the official statement of the wike administration on this issue (and not sentiments); lest we fall into the hands of upcoming, disgruntled politicians desperate to make end meet!! We as Nigerians should watch and learn; tomorrow some of you may be local government chairman, senators or even governors; so it pays to be wise and objective when review government policies or body language on issues that way you have a well rounded education!!! |
@Demdem, dshrewd et al. Obviously the thread is raised by either a very passionate person or someone who just hates wike!! But look at the matter critically and from another perspective of someone who is neither of the 2 mentioned above!! In Lagos, Ibadan, Jos, Edo states (which are APC states now) where I have lived and schooled at different times; it is students that clear up the school, it sounds awkward that governor office is owing cleaner and security guards, even the funds for the security guards is paid out of the utility cash made available to the principal and not directly from state government office - at least I have relations that work in both Edo, Plateau, Oyo and Lagos States ! Also you mentioned that they were being owed 7 months pay; wike hasn't been governor for 7 months (counting May 29 to September 29 is exactly less than 4 months - at least salary should come at the end of the Month - abi no be so!!), meaning the debt is an inherited commodity from the previous administration; do we now call him a crook on the basis of this? then the question arises 1.) When did Amaechi directly engage the services of these people; has it always been the norm or is it after he heard that APC lost in his state that he hired them? Why? Because it not a normal thing heard amongst men in Nigeria; both in Federal or state schools, in all the schools I have attended that people clean school for us!! 2.) Do we know for sure the condition upon which their services where engaged? Because if I was governor today and I hear that my government inherited a mysterious bill, and that it is owing people somewhere who clean schools and I see that their services where not properly engaged with respect to due process and to make matters worse; the former administration is from a different party that refused to relate with me, the former governor didn't give me handover notes: I am duty bound by honour to ignore such a mysterious debt, why? It is the same people crying fowl now that will accuse me of corruption tomorrow and abuse of due process; using ghost workers to siphon public funds!! Let's not be sentimental, you may not like the man, Wike, but at the same time consider other possible perspectives especially when you have not given us the position of government on the issue. You only gave us the position of the workers; what about the position of government? I don't know the details, but I believe the workers in question would have been forced to go to the media so as to prompt government to give an official position on the matter!!! Let see what that official position is; then we can all him a crook together on the basis of how he intends to handle it!! All the monies quoted that are in his possession cannot be dedicated to paying only cleaners and security guards; every administration has its own priority and the money will go to his priorities based on policy direction. President Buhari for example has a policy direction that says "Change" and "anti-corruption till I die" which is why constituting a cabinet/economic team in the midst of low oil prices isn't a priority, do we now say he is a crook because he doesn't want to pay ministers inspite of billions in the National treasury? He even made himself the substantive oil minister just like Obasanjo did in his time: see crook? No, you question policy direction first, then if that is not clear; engage government through the media and obtain an official position for the purpose of clarification. Except you are convinced beyond repair that wike meant it for evil and not for good or he is just a helpless-natural-born-crook! In which case, just disregard my entire post/comment!!! |
Dahveydson:Reliable beyond all reasonable doubt, most especially when you look your age because their are some 37years old folks that will still claim under 25 when they get there!! But if U still doubt this info; don't take my word for it, ask a security personnel, preferably one that is a commissioned officer!! |

VanUrch:It doesn't matter how young you are; infact, the younger the better!! As long as your credentials are OK: fine!! If U are even 20 years of age and have your degree and your credential are Ok, Medicals are OK; your prospects are brighter. They don't frown upon people who are below the minimum age; its those that are above the maximum age that they frown upon |
I have seen a lot of mis-information so far reviewing this thread - the bulk of it I deem un-intentional while the rest is just plain comedy - the errors/misinformation are largely based on what is called "The Standard" in a Nigerian military environ. "The Standard" refers to the terms and conditions of services as well as the bulk of what is contained in the armed forces act of 1990. There is also a social terminology in military environments called "The General Idea"! The General Idea is just the actual realities that exists in the military that are a deviation from the standard condition of service but are still covered by the armed forces act in some way!! An example; According to the conditions of service, DSSC are deemed non-combatant officers (or professional officers) that are suited for administrative purposes and are not meant for actual warfare - this is The Standard !! The General Idea is that DSSC Officers and Soldiers undergo the same training, in the first cycle of Recruitment called the BMTC -Basic Military Training Course - which runs for 6months, also the Armed forces act allows ample room for the Chief of any military arm to use personnel for any purpose in the event of a security situation. Therefore, DSSC officers can be deemed prepared to face combat immediately after they are commissioned (since both they and soldiers do the BMTC and soldiers are deemed combat ready). They are not only sent into combat, but are also drafted into the Infantry division/corps of the Army as well as the airforce (The airforce call their own infantry wing/corps regiment/air crew). From experience, people who may fall into this category are usually very tall or buffy/muscular looking in appearance and have an appearance that seems to command attention physically!!!! I know many of such cases mathematician, accountants etc who were guilty of looking too gallant for the office and so they were drafted into infantry immediately - even though they came through DSSC. Now DSSC training is 6/7 months, for those who are drafted into Infantry/regiment from DSSC, because DSSC does not cover in its entirety infantry/regiment related training they are sent for further training courses - 100% of the time overseas to countries like belarus, israel etc- to help them fit into the Infantry division/corps better!! But for DSSC officers that are sent to combat, but are members of a corps/department outside the infantry, nothing for them; highest they will be briefed by their new CO's (or officers under the authority of their CO's) or much more experienced officers in there respective units on what is expected from them in the course of combat!! Another Example; All officers whether they came in through the RC of the NDA or the DSSC or SSC can attain the rank of a 2-Star general or VSO (Major-general, Air -vice Marshal, Rear Admiral for army, airforce and navy) - this is the standard!! The General Idea is that DSSC are deemed (no matter the amount of training you want to give them or the corps you put them) not in a position to command troops at an "executive" level - this is by reason of the Armed forces law!! This why no STF/JTF commander or service chiefs within the individual armed forces like The GOC's, FOC's or the AOC for army navy and airforce will be a DSSC officer - no matter how many training or war you make the DSSC officer fight. Also the VSO, Very Senior Officer's Ranks (which is from Colonel upwards in army, Captain upwards in Navy, Group captain upwards in Airforce) have limited slot (which usually must be filled with equity and federal character in mind; though this is not always the case). Also these are usually the recommended ranks approved by the Armed forces council and the respected councils of the individual armed forces for officers to hold who must command troops at certain executive levels as well as for certain strategic appointments!! Because of the current size and capacity of our military, what usually happens is that you may have 400 people due for the rank of Colonel; 110 are RC, regular commission (either through NDA or SSC) while 290 are from DSSC and the appointment requiring executive command of troop throughout the army at the level of colonel are 60; the ones that don't require this are 20; so how do they promote!! The DSSC will always get the short end of the stick and it gets tighter at higher ranks like brigadier general and Major general!! Plus the bulk of the offices at the level of Major General require executive command of troops; the ones that don't, will be filled by officers who enjoy sympathy of their colleagues and coursemates that went through the NDA - who hold executive appointments within the military - so because of this, the usual last bus-stop of DSSC officers is Brigadier General - and that is with Favour with both men and God!! Usually Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel is the where most DSSC officers are retired!! The Standard says DSSC can achieve Major-General but the General Idea is that the last bus stop is Brigadier General!!! This is where people make mistakes about the military; looking at recruitment related documents most times display the standard, the general idea can only be seen on ground! Either by living in an military environment and carefully observing things like military orders at Provost/MP's, asking question amongst friends/family who are personnel or even taking up a casual Job at a military installation or being a personnel yourself!! |
saintbiddy:You stand a chance in any of the arms of the Nigerian Military!! If U haven't considered a different career line as at the time of writing this post, I will advise you give it a try!! If you are going to try the Nigerian army and are under 30 and are very fit and healthy and not flat footed; then I suggest U pick up the SSC form of the Nigerian army! Otherwise, pick up the DSSC form of any or all of the 3 armed forces!! When you pick up the form; target the education core! Your degree will be deemed an asset in any training command of either army, navy, airforce or the General Armed forces colleges!! |
qirecs:This is very possible!! But your road is very rough and it takes a disciplined person to get there!! Your only possible hope is to apply for Short Service Commission, SSC - which fits the career path I see here - but it means that you will train for 9mths - 1year!! It also means that you will have to have age on your side (your chances are greater if as at the time of comissioning you are under 30yrs)!! Read my previous comments on the difference between DSSC and SSC in this thread for more info on SSC!! |
bigboyo:Not at all!! What I am actually implying that even if form comes out within the next 3 weeks of this post; its of no relevance if U are not ready to compete in the recruitment process!! |
Hmmmmm............This is interesting!! Good day to the New comers, SOB's (Senior Officers on Board) on this thread, the Die harders, the Machines and the Sucide squadrons as well as all silent onlookers! I've actually been watching - silently - all manner of dates, suggestions and counter-suggestions as to why the forms are not out yet!! I believe the change government as well Nigeria's current macro-economic position shouldn't be ignored!! The military has a lot of programs/agenda within it annual calendar which requires cash to achieve, DSSC/SSC recruitment is just one of many of them!! But for whatever reason they choose not to sell the forms, its should count as a blessing in disguise for another day to get set for recruitment activities; to avoid malingering when the time to submit better parade arises!! |
mkoabiola:Point of correction!! Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah (Rtd)!! It is the nature of the press to display a seemingly fair amount of ignorance as regards military ranking!! The Chief of Defence Staff rank is that of an Army General and not Major General!! And Chief of Army staff is that of a Lieutenant General!! I can't imagine pressmen not doing their research when reporting on sucession/handing over in the military!! Just imagine punch reporting the sack/retirement of Major General Kenneth ...........Learners!!! |
What will it take to pick up a 2003 Toyota Matrix! Automatic transmission!! Plus budget for someone who will come and do the purchase!!! |
@Spidermon & Godschild2.....Thanks!! Its a pleasure!! A lot has changed since 1999! Before now military recruitment was almost unheard of outside barracks and it affiliated communities; now every single person want to know "Whatsup"!! Recruitment listings were smaller and recruitment targets were lower!! Now they go as far as having 2 to 3 set listed in a year!! It getting much more expensive to recruit and also service/recruitment conditions have to be reviewed to take into consideration new realities of terrorism, Niger delta militancy and oil bunkering as well as the ever increasing responsiblities of the Military in the midst of the current drop in the price of Oil worldwode!! The moral behind all this grammar!!?? Everybody including those who don't want to join the military wanna know about recruitment so take it easy!! No need checking banks everyday, google it or check Nairaland!! Don't give yourself unnecessary hypertension; if that your current career focus then take this time to develop yourself physically and mentally for the job ahead!! Chikena |
raylord:This is what we call the standard and is true on paper; the general idea (what is real in the field) is that DSSC are posted for combatant Ops!! What I guess "he" meant to tell you is that you are trained/meant for combatant operations as an SSC officer while DSSC officers are trained/meant for Professional or desk jobs!! SSC are trained for 9months - 1yr while Dssc are trained for 6 -7months. Also there is no such thing as a 1star LTT! Its called 2nd lieutenant I.e. One star or Lieutenant I.e Two Star !! Also there are peculiarities that can exist within individual armed forces that you will have to find out for yourself that you will never hear till you get there (and you probably won't tell folks about who seek to know after you get there) |
saintjoel:Please, can you furnish me with detailed cost for that HRV or better yet what does one expect to pay for an AC, automatic, leather interior version of that ride with a cd player if possible.......ehidiamenigue01@yahoo.com....thanks |
