I think it is possible to IBOlize oneself. I met a Yoruba man here who,i think, has forgotten that he's Yoruba. He speaks the language fluently and behaves like an Ibo man. He even modified his surname to sound Ibo . I think that is extreme. I think the way to go about it is to live among them and to understand what makes them so industrious. My observation has been that it is a culture thing. It's ingrained in them from the beginning that money is important, a sure fire way to gain respect and being one's boss is the best. I'm not Ibo , neither am I Hausa nor Yoruba . I'm not even married to an Ibo man . You have to admit the Ibo man has the showing off thing down to perfection. They love making their wives look beautiful! It's not a slight on other ethnic groups just a compliment to the Ibo culture. Yeah others do it but generally speaking Ibos take the prize. And they are so industrious,chei! That is one thing I admire about them.

I think the reason for this is that wealth or money is an important part of their culture. For them it means respect. An Ibo man loves to show off through his wife. And the wives love to be shown off. Of course this has its side effects.

Funny topic, even funnier entry post. I am a bit biased on this topic. I believe that Yorubas produce the best husbands.

Now on a more objective note: I do not think any one ethnic group will produce "best husbands". It all depends on what the man is exposed to, what his values and ideals are. There's so much more that makes a man than where he comes from although it strongly influences his reasoning. You seem to like a man who spends well on a woman but when it gets down to it, a married woman will prefer her husband's love and attention to all the money he can shower on her. Together they should shower money and gifts on each other.

YORUBAS: The sweetest sugar coated tongues ever. They can be given the title DIPLOMATIC HUSBANDS. Love their wives + love their concubines and mistresses at the same time and with the same affection. What you said should also go vice versa, a true woman should learn to fulfill her man's dreams and help him attain personal goals and ambitions. I'm also assuming Chick flicks doesn't just mean Nigerian movies. @ cooljade, a lot of guys(not all) have certain ideas about a woman's place in the home or society, fighting those ideas here on NL is futile so don't even bother . My Dad is very attentive and watchful of his 3 daughters and he knows what we are good at in terms of academics, talents,etc,
so when it came to secondary school he pushed us into the areas he knew we were very good at, like the sciences, he knew i was good at that and I took a great interest in it, Hence, my profession today as a Pharmacologist.

I owe alot of what I am to my Dad perseverence and those so called 'pressures',  

What I 'thought' i knew and wanted  then, my Dad could see alot more potentials in me and guided me into it,

It was not BY FORCE as i know some Nigerian parents will do, because he knows the consequences could be dire,

So my dads 'pressures and advice' was Definetly the better choice,

but at the end of the day i think that pressure has assisted in who i am today,

However, some Nigerian parents dont know where to draw the line, and the end result can b catastrophic at times

The people who are claiming that Nigerian women are throwing their rings away,i have no idea where you saw them. Most of the ones i have seen love wearing their rings. And what if she doesn't wear it? She might have her reasons. I personally don't wear my rings in the house, just when i'm going out.

Those people are always going on strike. I have a nurse friend there and she told me that as they were about to embark on this their latest strike, they had to take out babies from incubators so no thank u. That antenatal sounds scary but i'll register this weekend. Thanks.
