Penguin2: I guess you are the one who needs to go back and study the new Electoral Act.
There’s something called substitution of candidate by political parties and it will be available till sometimes in August.
It is the reason Doyin Okupe was named as a placeholder for potential Labour Party VP from the north.
It is same reason Ibrahim Masari was named as placeholder in APC.
These two men are likely to be substituted later.
Now, same with presidential candidates.
A presidential candidate can write INEC to notify it of his/her intention to withdraw from the presidential race and INEC is obligated by law to accept such withdrawal.
Now, there’s no law that says after withdrawing as a presidential candidate you cannot be named as Vice Presidential candidate within the stipulated INEC substitution window.
So, you see? You are the one who needs to read the law and understand.
Fergie001 Garfield1 Ejimatic Vidcom . Substitution is allowed but the candidate will write a letter of withdrawal to INEC for the replacement to be effected. The party will be given the right to replace the candidate as decided by the party. However will OBI allow that? In the interest of Igbo Kingdom he will not and neither will Kwankwaso do so. |
Politics › Re: 10 Reasons Why The APC May Lose 2023 Elections - Opinion by ejimatic: 6:23am On Jun 18, 2022 |
NaijaCowFarm: I present to you 10 reasons why the APC will be kicked out of Aso Rock in 2023
1.Presidential flag bearer: Of the two contenders, Atiku and Tinubu, only Atiku has a national appeal. Atiku is popular in the North, SE, SS, NC, and SW. With 11 million votes in 2019, Atiku would be polling over 22 million in 2023
2. Buhari not on the ballot: With Buhari out of APC ballot, the core North would not be motivated as they were in 2015 and 2019. This time, NE, NW, and NC will be fully Atikulated. The North will rather prefer 16 years of an uninterrupted rule than 8 years of Buhari's disappointing rule, it is common sense. The North wants to know that Atiku would achieve what Buhari failed to do in 8 years.
3. APC's Muslim-Muslim Ticket: This is a no-brainer. Christians in Northern Nigeria are well over 70 million, from Southern Kaduna to Bauchi, Bornu, Taraba, Niger, Nassarawa, Plateau, Benue, and even up to Jigawa. It is funny that APC could not find one, just one of them worthy to be VP candidate. It is unfortunate. Then down South, even SW Christians are against the Muslim-Muslim ticket. We all know that Ondo, Ekiti, and Lagos are predominantly Christians. The Christians see Tinubu's obsession on the Muslim-Muslim ticket as an affront.
4. Tinubu's ill-health: It is a known fact that Tinubu is sick, and very sick. After Buhari's 8 years characterize by absenteesm and bed-ridden affairs, no sensible Nigerian wants a repeat of that. We see that Tinubu cannot hold a microphone to speak, He only uses a standing microphone because his hands are shaking violently. He cannot hold a paper to read, he is sick and not good enough to be president.
5. Electronic transmission of results: This is where PDP killed APC. We all saw how APC fell woefully in Anambra as the BVA ruined their rigging plan. Prior to the elections, the APC candidate was parading over 250,000 members. In the election, APC came a distant third to APGA and PDP. This will repeat in 2023. People will collect APC money and vote PDP or LP (that is if Obi is contesting, but I doubt)
6. APC and Buhari's failure: It is on record that the APC led Nigeria into two consecutive economic recessions, wiped out the middle class, and created the highest amount of poverty in Nigeria's history such that the average family in Nigeria has been reduced to beggars. This is against their promised "CHANGE" and eldorado they promised Nigerians in 2014/15
7. Siddon look chieftains: In case you have not noticed, most chieftains of the APC did not want Tinubu as the party's flagbearer. Even Buhari has not shown that level of enthusiasm you would expect from an outgoing president eager to hand over to a successor in the same party. Up North, the slogan is from baba to kaka? Some of the APC leaders are already looking to jump ship, but as usual, will wait to see how the campaign will go.
8. Tinubu's antecedents: The North does not trust Tinubu. Forget all the photo razzmatazz with Gandulje and Shettima. They know Tinubu to be a tribal leader, who will not only destabilize the power balance. but will create a Yoruba cabal. Also, the Yoruba Muslims are not accepted as Muslims, moreso parading a Christian pastor as a wife, is a BIG NO1
9. Insecurity: What is the APC going to tell people who are under the scourge of bandits, kidnappers, Boko Haram, ISWAP, etc? Will they tell them that PDP is the cause as they did in 2014? Will APC tell the people paying daily taxes to bandits that they are going to rescue them after the elections? What will APC tell Nigerians that they inherited over 5000 Megawatts of electricity, but now only generate 99 megawatts? What will APC tell Nigerians, that they took over when Dollar was N186, but now N600? Or that Petrol that was N87 is now no longer available or that Diesel that was N150 is now N1500? What will APC and Tinubu campaign with?
10. Peter Obi and Kwankwaso effect: As I write, neither Peter Obi nor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are presidential flag bearers of the Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) have presented their running mates, 24 hours before the deadline. I believe that these two are not going to contest the presidency. Kwankwaso left PDP because of Wike's overbearing influence on the party's structure, more particularly how Secondus, a trusted ally was removed by Wike's high-handedness. The same applies to Peter Obi. Most analysts do not understand why Atiku did not accept Wike, it is to assure all those aggrieved members that he is a neutral candidate, who is out to reconcile all parties. So, I see Kwankwaso and Obi re-alligning with Atiku to chase APC out of Aso rock. . A good piece written from the PDP viewpoint for the PDP to make PDP happy. Your opinions are respected but this is POLITICS anything can happen. In 2015 and 2019 people gave 1000 of reasons why APC would not win yet the party won. Election is always won by a better strategist among the two popular contestants. |

humilitypays: If you are honest without sentiments, you will agree with me that Igbos are more than united in their political demand this time than ever.
Forget the featherweight Igbo politicians like Umahi, Kalu, Rochas, the party delegates, etc. The Igbo masses are united behind Peter Obi mostly. And they have been consistent in queuing behing Peter Obi, which shows they are united and resolute about Peter Obi's political credentials.
The only thing that affected Igbo people's chances at presidency in 2023 to my own opinion is the IPOB movement.
Northern Nigerians are very scared of Nigeria's division because Nigeria seems to be all they have and can't imagine loosing it, so anybody or group that represents Nigeria's division scares the North. That's why Northern politicians are scared of supporting an Igbo Presidency. And then on the other hand, North know they need a partner in the South and Southwest have proven to be a worthy bride to the North, making North to now prefer to work with SW more than SE they preferred before 1999.
So everything boils down to the 1966 civil war and 1967 civil war memories and fears thats still lingering in the hearts of Northern political class. . Your concluding paragraph hits the point. The North needs assurrance from the SE. That is why I said the SE needs a political movement supported by the SS and the SW . SE alone cannot rule in Nigeria. Going to LP and thinking it will take SE to the Promised land will still be a mirage for the region |

humilitypays: It was like a trance again. I never loved what I saw, but do I have an option ? NO! Life is beyond ordinary. The reality of life is more than our wishes. Nigeria is under the influence of powerful negative forces and I was meant to understand that part of the reason Nigeria will take decades to get it right in selecting worthy leaders is due to costly mistakes of the past by some Nigerians which led to shedding of too many innocent bloods crying daily against Nigeria.
I was showed the mistake of the Igbos which have caused Igbos so much pains in Nigeria and the pains will linger more. But a strange man told me that until others accept the Igbos to handle Nigerian central government, that Nigeria will never witness a prosperous leadership. The strange man told me that Igbos will rescue Nigeria but that powerful forces are against it.
Same strange man told me that Igbos should stop asking for their own country that it will not favour them, that Nigeria will favour Igbos as soon as Nigerians accept the truth and give power to Igbos.
Some powerful Fulani people have devilish plan against Nigeria. It is not joke, this was revealed as well. They want to make Fulani tribe the majority tribe in Nigeria through collaboration with foreign mercenaries of Fulani origin. I was showed around different forests that I have never been to, there I saw well armed strange men living in these forests without fear. They have converted these forests as home. At a point, I was taken to some military camps and somehow I saw top Nigerian military officers with unknown faces dinning with the armed young men in those forests.
Their language was strange to me. I asked one of them why they are living in the forest instead of city areas, he laughed at me and said don't I know that the whole Nigerian forests belongs to them? I challenged him casually that it belongs to the people of Nigeria and the Nigerian government, and he laughed at me again and said don't you know that we own the government which means the land belongs to the owner of the government.
And then I saw crowd everywhere, they said it was election day, I couldn't find my PVC, when I was about to go to the polling unit to tell them to allow me vote even though I didn't have my PVC, on my way, I saw another crowd celebrating and dancing, they were carrying banners with Bola Tinubu's face on it, when I go to where the crowd was, I asked one of them what happened, and he told me that Tinubu has won the election. I told him that I have not cast my vote, he said I should not bother that they have declared him winner, that I should join them, I was confused so I left the man and continued walking to the polling unit, then I saw another crowd crying, some rolling on the floor.
They said the new President just died. The whole scene became confusing as I now started seeing different environment that looked like somewhere in Southeast, people were sober, things were dull.
My conclusion is that Tinubu will win but his VP will complete his tenure.
Obi will awaken Nigerian youths and Obi will later emerge Nigeria's President after failures of the next regime, many will now begin to believe Peter Obi's candidacy and youths of all tribes will massively push him to run again and if he listens to the youths he will win. . I always say it on Nairaland that. realistically it is the turn of the SE to rule Nigeria. After SE, NE.After the NE is the turn of the SW.But is the SE ready? Are the Igbos united with one voice and one mind? Answers are NO! Can a person rule Nigeria from a regional or minority party? NO! Can a person rule in Nigeria without the votes of the North? NO! The Igbos are not ready yet to rule in Nigeria neither are they ready to srategise so as to achieve their aims.Remember in 2015 and 2019 it was the shout of Atiku and Obi in different forms" Atiku is coming,. Atikulate etc " Yet Atiku and Obi failed. In 2023 ,with due respect to the Igbo Kingdom Obi cannot win and rule from the Labour Party. The LP is known as an Igbo party and the North will frustrate everything about the party. Can the party win NW and NE let alone NC? We will find out that only 3 States will vote for Obi in the SE. Can this make him the president? NO ! For Igbos to rule in Nigeria, the region must strategise with SS and SW and the entire South will start the campaign of " it is the turn of the SE '" or in Yoruba " South East lo kan!". Regrettably my good people in the SE do not see it in this way even educated Igbos too. If Tinubu wins and he dies" God forbid" the Northern VP ( if he comes from the North ) will finish his tenure and the North will return it to the SW again. The North is more comfortable with the SW in all ways to rule in Nigeria than the SE..That is why campaign of strategy is important in the SE. The SE must make the region sellable to the North. Finally one year the SE will rule in Nigeria for the country belongs to us all. This however is not possible in 2023. As for the 2023 it is between PDP and APC! A regional party like LP cannot rule in our modern Nigeria! |

Nasreports77: Tinubu: APC Group Calls For Adoption Of Chief Ezekiel Afunkoyo As VP
By Godson Ikpontu
A pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) group, on the aegis of APC Youth Development Forum(APC-YDF), has called on the national leadership of the party and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consider and adopt Chief Ezekiel Afunkoyo as his Vice Presidential candidate.
While the party has less than two days to make decision on who to fly the joint ticket with the presidential candidate, there have been divergent opinions on the personality and geo-political zone to be considered in picking the Vice Presidential candidate.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by the National President of APC-YDF Comrade Solomon Audu while reacting to ongoing consultations on the options available to the party in considering a presidential pair for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
He said “The call to adopt Chief Ezekiel Afunkoyo as Tinubu’s Vice is based on his performance as a businessman, acceptability among his colleagues and Nigerians, his sense of justice and equity as well as his contributions to the development of APC as a ruling party.”
He said Cheif Ezekiel is known for “his personal sound character and his gentle disposition, a bridge between the young and the old, who has no record of religious bigotry, physically fit and mentally balanced, a bridge-builder between the North and the South, which makes him suitable for the position.
“The experience gained as a politician will certainly come in handy in his role as Vice President".
He, however, explained that it is time for Taraba State to produce the next Vice President.
He noted that Taraba state has produced commited and devout leaders who have left no stone unturned in ensuring the growth and betterment of the party both at state and national levels.
He therefore called on the attention of the leadership of the party as well as the APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look towards Taraba state to produce a running mate for his Presidential race.
Comrade Audu further hailed Former two times Governor of Lagos State, Tinubu and assured him of the support of the teaming Nigerian youths in the forthcoming general polls.
He also encouraged the leadership of the party to be conscious of the plight of the people with emphasis on balanced governance for the sake of peace and unity.
Meanwhile, Afunkoyo was a key player to the victory of APC in 2015, haven made selfless commitments and sacrifices with massive campaigns across the northeast and Nigeria in entirety.
He is currently the Chairman of the the Board of Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Hospital. He is a 3times Governorship Aspirant in Taraba State and also a Member of the Presidential Defence Think-tank Committee. Chief Afukonyo was the Chairmanship Candidate for National Republican Convention Party from 1994 to 1995. In 1995 untill 1996, he held the position of Director Research and Member Board of Trustees of the Democratic People's Party(DPN).
In 2011 he was appointed as GMB 2011 Campaign Coordinator for Taraba State and was later a Gubernatorial Aspirant of the then newly birthed Congress for Progressive Change(CPC) in Taraba State. He led a massive crusade of Supporters during the 2015 general elections, which birthed President Muhammadu Buhari as President under the victorious mandate of APC. In 2019, Chief Afukonyo made several efforts to ensure that the ruling All Progressive Congress-APC remained in power, especially at the presidential level which was achieved. . How many votes can Ezekiel Afunikoyo win for APC? |

JAMO84: When PDP picked Atiku, another Muslim after Buhari, nobody said anything. They allowed PDP to play their survivalist game.
Now APC too must play to survive. The most fair thing to do would have been both parties picking a southern Christian presidential candidate, but PDP has destroyed fairness by picking another Muslim from the north.
APC cannot make the mistake of chosing a northern Christian, they will never vote for APC in the Presidential election. Northern Christians and PDP are inseperable.
APC Muslim Muslim ticket is purely political, just like the proposed 16 years Muslim/North rule by the PDP. . If APC selects a Northern Christian as the VP it will fall into pieces or in Yoruba "A LU LE". The only Best selection is a Muslim from the North especially from the NE. |

lalasticlala . PDP wants to use Okowa for the SS votes since SE has settled as usual to vote OBI As for the APC the party needs a strong person for the NE votes.Malami is not fit for that. He cannot win a senatorial seat in Kebbi. From the above description,Shettima may be qualified for the post. |

dre11: https://punchng.com/apc-may-unveil-tinubus-running-mate-wednesday-party-focuses-on-north-east/ . I hereby forsee Tinubu picking a Muslim running mate from the North. He needs a Muslim northerner that can pull crowd in the North for him to win the election. Boss Mustapha caanit even win a senatorial ticket in Adamawa.Lalong is from the North Central. He cannot pull votes for Tinubu in the North West and North East. A northern Muslim will give the magic for him. It is quite unfortunate that Abiola Kingibe combination will surface again. We don't go out to vote in the South. We are just analysts but the Northeners will go out emmass and vote. Tinubu needs the massive viotes in the north. |

fergie001: This one is not true. INEC has a Constitutional responsibility to monitor elections, not doing so makes you fail. Why then do they write to INEC to come monitor Presidential Conventions? Was the cancellation for the first one communicated to INEC?
DIG Ekpoudom is the Candidate, and not Akpabio. I want to believe it was though I did not have the details...On the other hand what if INEC is informed about a primary.exercise but still absent. Will the primary not be conducted? |

fergie001: garfield1 indispensable85 ejimatic Ojuntana vicdom kyase . Primary is a party affair.Did Stephen complain? INEC is just an observer in a primary not an umpire. Abscence of INEC does not affect the results of a primary as long as it is conducted by the party structure in the state. |

PlayerMeji: Hmmm
I m waiting for the usual statistics of how SW, NE, SS, SE, NC, etc are waiting to vote for PO...
How any youth who does not vote for him is a bastard as if all of them Obi, Tinubu, Atiku, Kwankwaso, etc are not Nigerian politicians...
Shebi, Anambra is the most peaceful state in Nigeria now where not quite long, some riff rats just sliced away a sitting house member head without our own darling PO going all out as an elder statesman to making sure that the culprits are found. . . I am still waiting for some weeks to predict how the voting will go in February. But for now , it is necessary to say that Peter Obi of Labour party cannot win the election. Is Labiur Party a popular party in in the NW NC NE SW and SS? Can a regional party win a presidential election? More analysis to come on 2023 elections! |
