Dexterax: Bros, it's always better to evaluate these things in context. We're all aware (at least based on media reports) of what has gone down in the company in question in the past 18 - 24 months.
You are right Sir. My post was not meant to justify what the company did in terms of dividend declared but to point out a fact- from a general point of view- that a company can declare a dividend that is higher than its current eps.

natruetalk: bro take a look at my Oga post above may be it will make any sense, paying dividend not always mean d company is worth betting on, companys paid dividend for different purpose most especially if a company is eyeing to raise fund in future time. cowboylism thinz grin O and o paid consistent dividend as well. d recent one they paid 30k when their eps is less than dt, cileasing propose dividend recently only to come out of story of reconstruction week later embarassed
Current EPS does not directly denotes whether a company is able to pay a particular amount of dividend or not. There are several ways a company can manage to pay dividend regardless of what the current eps is. @ifeykay mentioned one of them in one of the previous pages.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Elai147: 10:34am On Sep 29, 2014
kokobaba: You have a valid point in terms of the ROE. But getting a dividend yield of 10 to 12 percent @ the current price is okay by me
kokobaba: Also notice that diamond, fcmb and skye paid a dividend of 30k. Diamond bank that has not been consistent paying dividend paid 30k inspite of having a higher EPS. This is a company that paid dividend only twice in 5yrs. In terms of dividend, I would rather buy skye trading @ a cheaper price than diamond or fcmb trading @ a higher price. Why? Cos they will most likely pay the same amount of dividend next year I.e the 3 banks cos history has a way of repeating itself. Moreover, they are all tier 2 banks
Even though I own Skyebank in my portfolio, I must not fail to warn that dividend yield can land you into trouble if you are not careful. The divisor of the formula for dividend yield is the price per share of the stock. And from your knowledge of math, you will know that if the price drops and the dividend remains the same (or doesn't improve), the dividend yield will rise. One has to be very careful when some of a stock's fundamental metrics look good and others don't (UkwuAmu and Agbalowomeri's ROE warnings come to mind).

Dividend yield trap = stagnant dividend / falling share price = One Chance!

Note: I have Skyebank in my portfolio but I'm not an emotional investor grin

Yem0350: Mainstreet Bank’s buyer to emerge next week
Aks: http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/mainstreet-banks-buyer-to-emerge-next-week/
Preferred winner is btw Skye bank and Fidelity
princemolak: I see skyebank winning this bid[/quote

[quote author=FranklinRich]Well even though some peeps are underweight on banking stocks at this time, I personally think that skye bank at this price is not a bad buy.I have been accumulating it in tranches and I am hopeful that i might get a 9-12% dividend yield on the stock come next year.
Ezemarcel: skyebank lost huge amount of money to fraud so think deep...

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Elai147: 6:00pm On Sep 23, 2014
I think it is best to respect everyone's view on Oando. If someone perceives that there is something wrong with a company and decides to share it, there is nothing wrong in doing so. We should learn to control our emotions and not let it affect our investment decisions. Stop hating those that share negative sentiment about Oando. Our risk tolerance should factor in the state of our finances. I still maintain the idea of not investing money you can't afford to lose in the stock market or in a stock like Oando. Those that have the money to risk should carry on and not be dissuaded by other people's negative perception on the stock. After all Oando may also go the way of FO. The market has a mind of its own and anything is possible, especially in the NSE. As far as I'm concerned, I will not do a long term investment in Oando (for now) but will continue to trade on the stock and make good money whenever opportunity knocks.

@UkwuAmu, I dey hail from the sidelines. Thanks for that wonderful post...

Aks: From the NSE: Further to the announcement on 15 September 2014 where the share price of Access Bank Plc was placed on Technical Suspension pursuant to an anticipatory approval granted to the Bank, the Quotations Committee of Council of The Exchange yesterday granted final approval to the Bank. Consequently, the market is advised that Technical Suspension will now run from 15 September 2014 to 15 October 2014. Normal transactions on the shares of the Bank will resume on 16 October 2014.

CROOKSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kudos to CEO of Proshare who wrote epistle on their goof 2 days ago coupled with lots of discussion on it via social media. I believe this led to this sudden U-turn from the 'so called Regulators'.
