donchichi: Does any one know if you will get lower interest rates if you invest say, 500k than when you invest 1million?

Someone told me if the going rate for a 1million investment is 10%, you may not get that if you want to invest 500k.

Please let me know
If you buy from primary market auction, you get the same interest rate. It actually depends on your bid rate. But if you are buying from your bank's T-Bill holdings, they make bargain a lesser interest rate for the 500k.

Make I check their numbers for my spreadsheet again to dey sure.....
I am very confident in that stock- though with a long term prospect. However, it needs to find a new support level (above N15) before I can add to my position.

X-2-X:
Seun is right but I am not sure if that is the best route. It is certainly not the only route.

As far as I know, TBills are liquid. You can buy/sell on the secondary market as well, not just at auctions. I dont know how this works with banks (I dont invest through banks, rather I use a fixed securities investment house) but in general it is possible.

If you invested at say 13% for 365 days (12 months) and interest was paid upfront, then say after 4 months you need cash, you can sell at the secondary market to a willing buyer at say 12.5% for the remainder of the term (i.e 8 months). This means that you will have to settle the buyer upfront from part of the interested you collected upfront for your original investment, but the thing is since you are selling at a lower rate (in this my example), you are not really loosing out: You have earned 13% p/a for 4 months and also earn 0.5% p/a for the remaining 8 months. Problem only arises if you dont find any buyer on the secondary market at a agreeable rate. The rate at which you can sell is subject to bargain.

In fact sometimes when I bid at auctions and fail my broker will offer me something from another of their client who wants to sell (secondary route). I dont have proof but I sometimes feel my broker is intentionally bidding too high for me at the primary auction so that they get to offload to me from their clients (or their own holdings sef) via the secondary market, if you see what I mean. But hey, who am I to complain?

Note p/a = per annum.

X!
You may be right. One of my bankers don't always buy for me at the primary market. They will always give me one reason or the other for not being able to submit or execute my bid- I have never bided more than the stop rate in any PMA but yet they give me stories and later offer me something from their holdings in T-Bills. But what can I do? At least it's better than rejecting the offer and waiting for the next auction (with no interest) of which it's not certain they will submit my bid.

nereiskc: Cashcraft (my stockbroking firm), don learn bad thing, whenever I place order for buy, they will buy for at d highest price d stock rose up to that day not even d closing price. Then if I place order for sale, they will sell at d lowest price @ which d stock went down to.....I hv noticed this in 3 of my transaction concurrently, I think I want out... So pals need suggestions of good stockbroking firm u have tested and trust in that hv interest of investors at heart, also that have online platform where u can place mandate of buy or sell. Thanks my ogas.
Not all stockbrokers are good in the trade. If investors were allowed to trade directly in the trading floor, some of us would do better than these stockbrokers. You are not the only one that have experienced such. My stock broker USUALLY purchase stocks for me at the highest price attained by the stock for that day- High of the day. That is a clear example of an incompetent broker. When you complain, they will give you the popular story of "it depends on the ask prices of that particular stock". Also, as Chukyjones has suggested, they are there to make their money too. So they are only interested in buying the stock for you and getting their commission. The price at which they buy does not matter to them and does not affect them as long as you asked them to buy at market price.

Toluway: Even in my bid to sent my box address to the registrars of the companies I invested in, the email addresses of many did not work, some email addresses worked, but they never replied. Nigerian environment na wa!
I will advise that you only send E-mandate forms for stocks that you intend to keep for long term. There is no need sending E-mandate form for non-dividend paying stocks or for those stocks you intend to dispose before the year end. This will lessen the burden especially when you have a lot of stocks in your portfolio. Like you mentioned in your post, Nigeria environment na wa! It is so disappointing that some of these registrars cannot maintain their email addresses or email domain. They change their email addresses without updating it on their websites. I will not be surprised if I hear that some don't even have email addresses or websites. We just have to get used to it.

And as Nereiskc suggested, try and download theses forms, fill and take them to your banker for their stamps and signature after which you should post them to the various registrars. Some of the forms may come back to you as "undelivered mail" but at least some will get through. If you want your stockbroker to do this for you then you may be asked to pay for their service.

praxx: Hello guys
Please i need your advice here. I bought some shares years back and i remember i was also given a CSCS number by my broker, but after then i left the country and had not looked into it. Right now i can seem to find my CSCS number. Please guys is there a way i can retrieve my CSCS number as my brokers seem not to be in existence again.
thanks for your help
What is the name of your stockbroking firm? They cannot just varnish into thin air. Do you have your Clearing House Number (CHN)? If you have any previous In-House statement from your broker, you can check for your CSCS number there. Alternatively, you can contact CSCS for assistance and advice. I am sure they can be of help.

saanil: Any idea when did this merger happen? Also any views on the stock?
Check this link for more information on the acquisition. http://www.proshareng.com/news/15564

The stock is a very good one but presently, investors may not be pleased with its recent dividend payouts compared to its likes in the same sector. However, this is due to its being a conglomerate firm (with banking operations in 33 African countries). According to recent consensus forecast, ETI will outperform the market and investors were advised to purchase equity in the company. I am sure investors will enjoy this coy in the long term.

mercylicious: Hello house,
My broker did not see port paints to buy. Infact, am nt sure they will be able to buy till it reaches 8naira. I don't like chasing stocks when there are other opportunities, though they might nt be as lucrative.

Today presented a good opportunity for entry, am thinking of buying ubacap or afriprud tomorow, house, what do u think?
In my opinion, UBCAP is a good stock but since it was listed it has not made substantial progress. It may be good for long term. I have been following the stock for the past 3 months and have not seen any good entry point for short term, maybe when it becomes oversold.

saanil: Hi Guys,

What is your view on Nigerian banks - namley Guaranty Trust, Zenith, FBN Holdings, UBA and Ecobank? What is the outlook for banking sector. In FY12, these banks had a solid year but this year its just been UBA which has had a great rally. What do you guys think will happen to bank stocks in coming time?
I have no doubt the banking sector will do well this year- especially the ones you have listed, including Acess bank. They may not give 100% returns to investors but certainly close in the range. There are some of them that are good for long term. Axe Finance described Nigeria as Africa’s leading IT innovative country in the banking sector with modern infrastructure and a robust customer base.

PHIPEX: Pls my Ogas in the house, can anyone help us with this information because am also very interested in it. I've gotten the dividend already but the bonus hasn't been credited, what could be the cause?
Sometimes bonuses may not be readily credited in your CSCS account. You should allow some time for this. Alternatively you can contact the registrars for better information.

nereiskc: Good evening pals, pls when is the payment and allotment dates of okomuoil coy of their 2012 FYE., 2ndly, must one fill something like allotment forms for city securities limited (registrar of okomuoil) to claim his benefit...... Your ans will b highly appreciated.
They have started paying out dividends (payment date: 20-05-2013). If you are yet to receive yours, contact the registrars. If you have not yet register for E-dividend, please do- the registrar can assist you with this and you can be receiving subsequent dividends in your bank account- which is usually faster and better.

Toluway: Ihedioramma

I looked at NSE chart from July 2012 to date. Please join me in looking at it, House. I tried to paste it here but it couldnt be copied. I am looking at last year historical chart to date.
The bull continued through june to july. I only saw bearish lines in respect of August, October and November and the bulls started again from early December and by January, all the retracements had been cancelled.
How can we ralate this to what the guy said. Was he talking about Aug., Oct., and November? Can we use this rough historical data for our analysis and come out with a position? No one can predict the market though...

The dialectics continues

The guy's post does not have enough information for us to know what/when he was actually talking about. Perhaps, he can throw more lights on it. High volume and increase in price indicates there was a lot of buying but it also indicates an equal amount of selling. You may think it is time for selling but the truth is as you are selling, others are buying. For a transaction to take place, there must be a buyer and a seller. It is the price that will tell if the pressure was on demand or supply. So unless you apply market psychology or the law of demand and supply to what's happening in the market, you stand a good chance of misinterpreting what's actually happening. Some of us have been buying recently and have made cool profits...

Aks: I gave instruction to my stockbroker to buy Livestock shares for me on Monday and he strongly advised that i stay away from it cos there is no strong fundamentals on ground. He told me their coy had bad experience on the stock of recent that it's difficult to recoup anything on it when the bear period surface, my advise on peeps clamouring for Livestock is to thread carefully.

Skye, sterling and Diamond is preferable for keep for medium term while a gamble on Unity shares won't be a bad idea
Your stockbroker may not be far from the truth. Livestock is one of those coys whose unprecedented growth, since the start of the year, is not being supported by adequate fundamentals. However, this does not stop some sharp investors from diving in and diving out as soon as they make good profit because buying Livestock at current skyrocketing price for long term may be risky. As for me, if Livestock no come back to N3.00, I no dey do.
