Omexonomy: Please, my stock familiy can anybody school me on what is going on in ftncocoa processing the deals are going higher everyday.
Please my oga them for house, is the stock about to move from the car park, is it a green light to start acquiring.
Please delete that stock from your wish list. Why tie your money down in a stock that has been in the car park for a long time? Except you have a very reliable information that it will soon leave the car park. And even if it does leave, what is the assurance that it will not go back like it did before? In my opinion, this stock does not have the fundamentals for me to venture into, at least for now. Upon all the promises over the years nothing has happened, even after expansion. Don't get me wrong, the future MAY look bright and promising for this stock but for now... as Oga 9free has advised, there is no need to enter a burning train!

RichYoungRuler: hmmmn,i have a feeling FBNH will be seriously hit, little wonder the banks have steadily been on a price decline in the last few days. Well, maybe its time to mop up more bank shares??Now, what explains the sudden race wey oil companies dey run dis past few days?
By and large this current run has shown me the reason why one should have a well balanced portfolio.
After the downturn of 2008, banking sector is the only sector that is recovering at a very slow rate. The reason for this is not very clear to me. Inasmuch as this may be the right time for those who have money to buy from this sector, one should trade with caution. To reduce risk, I have decided to venture this sector by adding to my holdings in very sound banking stocks ONLY. I am not ready to make silly mistakes of the past.

You are correct that one should always have a balanced portfolio. The skyrocketing nature of the oil sector baffled me. We are still waiting for the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) into law by the senate which I thought may cause early threat in this sector but the reverse is now the case. My regret is that I only have a very thin holdings in this sector which I have to increase.

valacious: Blood on the floor. Pieces and flesh of companies stocks littering everywhere. Is this the end for our dear NSE?
It is rather an opportunity for long term investors to add more units to their long term stocks and start reaping fat dividends and bonuses every year.

All things being equal, it will be for as long as I can hold the stock. My main interest there will be on dividends and bonuses. I will worry about capital appreciation when I finally decide to offload my holdings in the stock.

mercylicious: My guys, na bad story I hear so.
Sanusi plans to devalue naira as our external reserve falls and he cannot afford to wedge naira with it anymore. He also plans to increase rate of public funds. What will be the effect? Interest rate (both lending and fd ) will increase. And if that happens, institutional investors will prefer to move their money to money market where they are assured of gains with less risk. If that happens, the stock market will crash. So we are expecting bears.
I don already tell my broker to sell my non performing stocks so that I can gain advantage in the bears.
Anyway, we pray this never happens.
Thanks for this alert sha...but it sound scary o...please financial analyst should tell us the possible consequences if this happens...because I no like to hear that statement "stock market crash" again for this our generation.

ayztech: my bank debits my account the net amount only , effectively leaving over the applicable interest figure. ie assuming the bid amt is N10 and the applicable int is N2, they'll debit my account N8 and on maturity credit my account N10. i tot that was general practice; didn't know one needs to stress for the interest like this.
Seun: If your bank deducts the full face value of the tbill upfront, as it seems to be the case with the people complaining, then the upfront interest is very important. If the interest is delayed for one month, as they reported, that represents one month of lost interest that they would have gained if they reinvested the amount elsewhere. The fact that your bank conducts transactions with integrity does not in any way eliminate the possibility that some other banks cheat their customers by deducting the full face value of tbills purchased and delaying the payment of the interest/discount for a month or two while they earn interest on it.
@ayztech, Seun is right. First bank usually debit the face value from my account and some times I have to worry them before I get my interest but this is not always the case. Meanwhile, Keystone bank only deduct the value of the bill and leave the discount rate in my account for my immediate use, which is very good. So it actually varies with banks.

anyanwu58: Hi Every1, please i want to change my broker, how do i go about it?
Do i need to open another CSCS account with the new broker or can i move my current CSCS account to the new broker(Meritrade).
Thanks for your help.
You don't need to open another account. Give your Clearing House Number (CHN) to the new stockbroker and tell them you wish to maintain the same CHN so that they don't open a new one for you. If you do this, you will have two stockbrokers but one CHN. This way, you are able to view and monitor both stockbroking accounts with one CSCS online subscription. You can also move your stocks from your current stockbroker to a new one but this process is not easy and takes some time. Except you do not trust your current broker, I will advise you not to bother transferring your stock. You can have more than one stockbrokers but just make sure you maintain one CHN number so that you can monitor all stockbroking accounts in one go.

Tanx so much elai. I went to first bank to roll it frm 91 to 182days last month june while I was told to write before next rollover which was july 18th in which I did. Up till today, I called d person incharge why said they will send my interest.
Some banks are usually very slow in crediting investors account. My last roll over was effected last month June 26, and I only received my interest on July 15 after so much complaints to Firstcontact. You have to keep disturbing them to credit your interest in your account.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Elai147: 10:08am On Jul 20, 2013
Tassembly: I really want to know if this tbills worth it, if i invest 250,000 in that fcmb for 91days at a stop rate of let say 10percent,does it mean i will get 25000naira or just quarter pay of 8,100naira plus.
The interest rate is Per annum. So you must divide the overall interest by 4 to get the quarterly interest rate for a 91-day T-bills, and divide by 2 for 182 days T-bills.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Elai147: 10:02am On Jul 20, 2013
festher: @feelamong and 9free, I invested since 25 December 2012 with N450k for 91days with first bank while my interest range was 10k to 11k sometimes. I just wrote my bank to roll it for 182days starting frm last biding which was july 18 2013. My question is what will be my interests for 182days and do you think first bank are not cheating me as a colleague advise? Besides I don't know rate for last bidding and haven't gotten interest up till now? Share light pls. Help pls and which way forward.
First bank only offers 91 days T-bills. I have 75% of my T-bill investment with First bank even though they refused to offer me more than 91 days T-bill. I don't think First bank can cheat you. They only bid for you at their best prevailing bid rate. So far, their rates have been very okay. Your best bet may be to use another bank for the 182 days T-bill. The interest rate is not fixed for every auction date.

For the Value Investors out there looking for Stocks with good yields...we'd probably have some fun together. That's not to mean our Growth Stock brothers are not fun...their short term insights is probably the best barometer for knowing when to seek a bargain. Cheers
Good news Ugodre. You have had a significant impact on the lives of some investors. Having you active on this thread will be like adding a good stock to my portfolio. I hope you are able to live up to your promise...

Epphy: Good morning experts. Yesterday was my first day in this thread. I have been looking at different possible ways of investing short and medium terms. I am really interested in stocks but I need people to guide me. I have little knowledge about it. I was put off due to the melt down as I invested little funds in buying banks shares then. Kindly help my curiosity. Thanks.
Find time to go through all the posts on this thread from the beginning. Also, keep following the thread for current news, guidance and more knowledge about stock investment. Don't forget to always ask questions if you need anything and someone will definitely help.

mjay: Am in for the medium and long term. I am more for capital appereciation than for dividends. Bonus may be attractive if it is not that of already bloated equities. In all ROI is the essence not much for retirement. Thanks. I can't wait to take positions.
I do not recommend stocks. However, I am going to list some stocks that I would like to have in my portfolio as an investor. It is not a recommendation for stock picks.

My Long Term stocks: Dividend, bonus, retirement portfolio...
CAP, DANGCEM, UACN, ZENITH, FBNH, GUARANTY, ETI, UBA, JBERGER, TOTAL, MOBIL, OANDO, FLOURMILL, OKOMUOIL, PRESCO, UNILEVER

My Short Term stocks: Capital appreciation, trading stocks...
ACCESS, DANGSUGAR, LIVESTOCK, NAHCO, NASCON, EVANSMED, MAYBAKER, ETERNA, TRANSCORP, ABCTRANS

Please note that for short term picks, you must know when to enter and exit. In my opinion, I will not advise you to enter any stock now (short term) because most of them are not in their right entry points. You should follow this thread regularly and ask questions in order to know the right time to buy. Your best bet may be to work on your technical analysis very well, study charts (Candlesticks, Bollinger bands, e.t.c) to help you make your own decisions on entry and exit points.

Good luck !

Born 2be Rich: For future reference, if anyone wants to know the registrar of any listed company on the NSE, kindly click on this link http://fidelitysecuritieslimited.com/UserFiles/File/REGISTRAR%20AND%20STOCKS.pdf ...i hope it is useful...

Enjoy.
Thanks a lot for this list. I think this is the most recently updated list that I have seen so far. Some lists contain outdated information of companies and their registrars and some registrars are just too lazy to update their websites which is actually a shame as this gives wrong and confusing information to investors. In the past, I have sent E-dividend forms that were returned to me due to the fact that the registrars have either relocated or are no longer registrars to the companies.

mjay: Hi all I was beaten and bitten by the meltdown of recent past and have since ran away from the stockmarket, though I still have some remnants with some two cscs accounts, i dont even bother to pick my dividend slips from the box anymore. Anyway am considering venturing back into the system for whatever I dont know, just that my hunch tells me it is an emerging market that holds some future possibilities. My take now is that I want to test the waters with 500k to 1mil. To the consistent gurus in the house, where and in what stocks will you advise me to take positions? And I hope I am taking the right steps. So house I need your experienced opinion I am presently green, but am studying some analysis presently. Thanks for your counsel.
It will depend on the type of investment you are interested in- short term or long term. Would you like to enter the market, make some profit and exit or are you interested in dividends and bonuses from companies? I think you will get more responses if you let the house know the type of investor you are and what you really want.

donchichi: Thanks. I'm being told the minimum investment is 1million but i read somewhere on this thread the minimum investment is 100k. Does this have anything primary and secondary market auctions?
It depends on where you are buying from. I made an enquiry from First bank in March 2013 and they confirmed to me that the minimum subscription is N100,000 and subsequent amounts must be in multiples of N1000. However, First bank only buys 91 days T-Bill for you. Try sending an email to firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com and enquire directly from them. There may be other banks that should be willing to accept 100k minimum.
