Romance / Re: Who Sits In Front: Your Girlfriend Or Bestfriend? by ell77(f): 12:38pm On Jan 09, 2008 |
Why is front seat special? More access to AC so prevents sweat, B.O. and oily skin, you can monitor what that person is doing/saying on their phone easier, that person can re-adjust themselves to make sure they are looking good in the mirror. Anyone who sees your girl in the front will immediately know she is your girl, but if she is at the back they will believe she is a relation or ordinary friend or they won't know if they are your girlfriend of your friends girlfriend. Also they feel good. So believe it or not putting your girl in the front seat has its benefits for you as a boyfrind! But that is your own decision, don't say I didn't warn you. When i first entered my guy's car he had a friend in the front who is Actually a famous musician in Nigeria, I went straight to the back seat but he got up and said, "what am I doing? He can't allow that!" He ordered me to sit in the front as the 'Queen's Position', my man didn't even have to say it. That is someone who was raised to be a gentleman and it says alot for him. So you should do the same as a best friend as it creates an instant good impression and girls will recommend you to their friends. |

quinofhart: I agree, but if you are looking for low cost ideas it really depends on what sort of things she likes and cares about. - If it is spending time with you then maybe a picnic on the beach will do - or cooking a meal for her at home and getting a video (that is good quality). - Maybe going to one of the tourist attractions that you believe will be romantic will help. - A pink teddy bear and a red rose. Something small that she can keep and say my man got me that he is so sweet. - Perhaps a poem about how great she is framed with a little something to go with it i.e. perfume. - - Maybe even a framed professional photo of the both of you. Use your imagination it is quite hard for someone to advise you when they don't know what sort of thing your girl likes. -Some girls may find a ticket to a local football match their best gift it depend on the girl, but I think i have given you some good ideas. Also put a lot of thought into the preparation of things i.e. if you cook for her in your flat then maybe blindfold her before she enters the flat and put some flowers all over the place or cushions or something creative or atleast make sure the place smells nice (perhaps a quick spray of your cologne). Make sure you aren't looking off key either! lol. Good luck! |
Education / Re: How To Improve My Spoken English? by ell77(f): 6:24pm On Jan 07, 2008 |
Watch bbc news online and listen to how English people speak. If you know anyone who speaks great English, tell them to correct you anytime you make a mistake - remember to tell them that you will not be offended. When I am around a Nigerian whose English is poor, it kind of sets me off balance, because I don't know whether they would want me to correct them or not. Afterall, who am I? Some of my Nigerian relatives though, pay special attention to the way I speak so as to improve the grammar and pronunciation. But when it comes to vocabulary, I think Nigerians reign, some words I have heard Nigerians use I had to go to my Oxford Dictionary to find the definition! lol. Anyway, you should not feel ashamed, I am sure you are fluent in at least one Nigerian language and this has probably impacted your English. Not many English/Americans can say the same (including me), without it being a part of their degree or something. But all the same I think it is improtant for you to try your best as it will help you in interviews and unfortunately for you English is Nigeria's National language also. Maybe you should tape yourself when you speak also, people are often amazed at the way they sound. Good luck! |

Romance / Re: What Will U Do If Ur Mum Disqualifies Ur Girl As 'ugly' by ell77(f): 5:05pm On Jan 03, 2008 |
@Poster, okay I am feeling bad for the poster now. Well mothers always want the best unfortunately their idea of the best may not be the same as yours sometimes they are right and the child is wrong, but i personally think in this case you are right. You define who you find attractive or don't you think your girl is attractive, if so then tell your mum that. If you don't find her attractive and love her still, then tell your mum that too. Just tell her you live her and it is your choice afterall tomorrow your mum may pick a girl who she thinkks is beauitful enough for you to marry and then you find some other major fault and it is not your mum who will suffer it is you. So if you know the reasons why you love this girl then tell your mum. If you don't know why you love her, still stay with her (it is often hard to say why we fall for certian people) - as long as she is a good person. |
Politics / Re: @nigeriaone - City Plan For Olokola by ell77(f): 3:02pm On Jan 03, 2008 |
@poster. PLEASE YOU WERE ON THE RIGHT TRACK BUT DON'T BE SO INFATUATED WITH LONDON. Lets say you are successful in your plans for 24 hour electricity and any other positive developments. Developed roads and pavements, street dustbins, street lights, traffic signals, etc. Fine if you want to take some influences from different countries around the world also, you can try and take the best from each city you admire. But If you go and name the streets Tony Blair street etc then you are giving undo credit to these people from the West and you will be effectively saying perhaps the greatest city to be made in Nigeria belongs to them. Think of local scholars and great people to name the streets after, and try and incorporate some things peculiar to olokola or ondo state. For example Dubai did not name any street George Bush and it now stands in a league of its own people model their designs on Dubai (though Dubai obviously had influences from different cities). Let your design be one that people model their cities after too! Let someone in India build a city and call it 'The New olokola'. lol. |

@Sleekfun - lol. I don't know how to change the poll I would have to start a new one. Anyway I got the general idea of where the most popular place in Nigeria people on nairaland would like to live is: LAGOS (adding lekki and VI together), followed by Abuja. I would be better served to ask which lagos lga people would like to live and how much would they pay for what, than continue this poll. Thank you everyone who took part in this poll and posted on the thread. |

@DisGuy - I think the language is Latin, there are letters missing in the text it originally reads: Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit . . . "There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain . . .". http://www.straightdope.com/columns/010216.html Apparently it is a a filler for documnets used to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorem_ipsum English translation Cicero's original text: "…neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit, sed quia non numquam eius modi tempora incidunt ut labore et dolore magnam aliquam quaerat voluptatem. Ut enim ad minima veniam, quis nostrum exercitationem ullam corporis suscipit laboriosam, nisi ut aliquid ex ea commodi consequatur? Quis autem vel eum iure reprehenderit qui in ea voluptate velit esse quam nihil molestiae consequatur, vel illum qui dolorem eum fugiat quo voluptas nulla pariatur?" H. Rackham's 1914 translation: "Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure?" Was kinda confused myself I was like, this does not look like Efik? @celemel - thanks alot for all the info, I must surely land next time. Do you think they will do something for Easter, they should! |

No wonder your not even taking this mini-battle seriously you have other 'peeps' to attend to. I have to admit sometimes I get a bit too engulfed in these arguments, like this is where things begin and end. If people don't listen here I have to remember that there are others out there who probably will. |
