To date do we even know what the official count of Nigerians who on 9/11 was?

Flight Attendant Boots Gwinnett Mom, Baby From Plane

POSTED: 4:51 pm EDT July 11, 2007
UPDATED: 8:21 pm EDT July 11, 2007

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County mother says she wants answers and action after she and her baby were kicked off a plane.

Kate Penland said she was glad to board the plane in Houston after an 11-hour delay to visit her father in Oklahoma. But she said a rude and aggressive flight attendant caused her to get to Oklahoma a day late.

Penland thinks her 19-month-old son, Garren, has a bubbly personality. But Penland said when they were aboard a Continental Express plane, a flight attendant became annoyed by Garren’s personality when he kept saying three words.

“As we started taxiing, he started saying ‘Bye, bye plane,’ said Penland. “At the end of her speech, she leaned over the gentleman beside me and said, ‘It’s not funny anymore. You need to shut your baby up.’

In disbelief, Penland asked the woman if she was kidding. It was then, Penland said, the flight attendant went too far.

“She then said, ‘You know, it’s called baby Benadryl. And I said, 'Well, I'm not going to drug my child so you have a pleasant flight.'

Penland said when the other passengers began speaking up on her behalf, the flight attendant got angrier and soon announced they were turning around and that Penland and Garren were going to be taken off the plane.

“I was crying, I was upset and I was thinking, ‘What am I going to do? I don’t have anything with me, I don’t have anymore diapers for the baby, no juice, no milk,” said Penland.

The young mother said she later learned the flight attendant told the pilot that she had threatened her. Penland said that never happened.

Express Jet Airlines released a statement that said, "We received Ms. Penland’s letter expressing her concerns and intend to investigate its contents."

A fellow passenger told Channel 2's Rachel Kim none of the other passengers had problems with Garren and that Penland never threatened the flight attendant.

Penland is considering legal action.

The Orthodox Jewish man deserved to be left behind. Was he the only religious passenger on board?

Imagine if out of 300 passengers, 200 decided they wanted to pray at the back of the fuselage. What then? All that ballast shifted rearwards for take off?

He could have prayed in his seat, instead, he chose to create a scene.

Luckily, he got another flight, albeit a later one.cheesy

No no no! *stamps feet*  angry angry angry

The jews must boycott. . .as someone with a jewish first name I feel highly insulted! I feel if that man had been an American, he would have been allowed to stay on board. I CALL ON A JEWS TO BOYCOTT UNITED AIRLINES!!! grin grin grin

Praying passenger removed from plane at NY airport

NEW YORK - A passenger who left his seat to pray in the back of a plane before it took off, ignoring flight attendants' orders to return, was removed by an airport security guard, a witness and the airline said.

The Orthodox Jewish man, who wore a full beard, a black hat and a long black coat, stood near the lavatories and began saying his prayers while the United Airlines jet was being boarded at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday night, said Ori Brafman, a fellow passenger who spoke about the incident by phone from San Francisco, where he lives.

When flight attendants urged the man, who was carrying a religious book, to take his seat, he ignored them, Brafman said. Two friends, who were seated, tried to tell the attendants that the man couldn't stop until after he'd finished his prayers in about 2 minutes, he said.

When the man finally stopped praying, he explained that he couldn't interrupt his religious ritual and wasn't trying to be rude. But the attendants summoned a guard to remove him, said Brafman, a writer who had been visiting New York to talk to publishers.

The plane, Flight 9 to San Francisco, took off without the man. It landed at its destination as scheduled, Brafman said.

Robin Urbanski, a spokeswoman for United Airlines, a subsidiary of UAL Corp. with headquarters in Chicago, confirmed the man was taken off the plane and put on another flight Thursday morning.

Urbanski said flights cannot depart if all passengers are not in their seats, which risks a delay, and it is important that passengers listen to the instructions of the flight crew.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs area airports, and the Transportation Security Administration, which handles airport security, said Thursday they weren't involved in the incident.

Here are a few more. . .

1.

The first is a sketch of the world famous Oxford Street by one my favourite artists, Steven Wiltshire, who is also known as the Human Camera. Stephen is autistic and is the only known art savant in the world, born in London to West Indian parents. He is able to view a location just once and then sketch it in record time from memory. If you would like to see more of his paintings then Google 'Stephen Wiltshire' to view his gallery online. Simply amazing! grin

@Kobojunkie

Na so I hear o!

But I don't know if it is true. BA does have a lot of Nigerian staff though. Most on the ground at MM and plenty of cabin crew so it is feasible that they would have had 'BA' Nigerian staff on that particular flight. There have been on the flights that I have been on. . .and they have all been very pleasant! cheesy

Anyway I guess we will hear the truth when Mr.Omo attends his court date. grin
Travel / Re: 136 Ba Passengers Removed From Jet Over Deportee Row by EloSela(f): 10:43pm On Apr 16, 2008
The issue I have here is that man was not really concerned about the Deportee, rather he was disturbed by the noise and he makes that quite clear in his transcript.

The whole thing is messed up anyway.

People are saying that Mr Omo spoke up out of concern and making out that he is some upstanding citizen when it is clear that ol' boy wanted them to quiet down so that he could get some kip on his flight

Some people are blaming BA for the treatment of the Deportee when they really had nothing to do with it. They wouldn't have been the ones restraining the Deportee, it would have been the Police and the immigration officials and that is who Mr.Omo bigged up his chest to go and confront about the noise. Now if he had made his concerns about the disturbance known to BA staff in a reasonable manner, then I am sure the issue would not have escalated to what it is today.

When the immigration officials had to leave the plane with the Deportee after the confrontation with Mr Omo, they told the Police and they came to collect their man.

The only thing BA can be held responsible for is the decision to clear the flight and that was at the Pilot's, who I heard was a Nigerian, discretion. If he felt it wasn't safe to fly the plane with a lot of riled up individuals on board then I can't say I blame him. grin

On another note, I know too much about this issue. . . embarassed

Na wa for una

Anyway, let me add some small kobos. . .

Apparently BA are legally obligated to transfer deportees back to their countries of origin.

http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/node/5886

British Airways and Virgin, who were contacted by The Independent, said their aircraft had been used for the purposes of escorted deportations as they were under a legal obligation to return failed asylum-seekers. A Virgin spokesperson said: "That is a matter for the Home Office, who makes immigration policy. We are simply not qualified to make those decisions."

British Airways refused to say how many removals it carried out each year, but said it adopted a policy of permitting one escorted or two unescorted removals per flight : "It is UK law and we comply with it – it's like asking whether we are happy paying income tax."

Mr. Omotade should have stayed his a$$ in his seat with some headphones or something if he didn't want to listen to a wailing Deportee.

The boys who held up that party were Nigerian. (If we are talking about the same one) A lady from Sierra Leone was shot in the head while holding her one year old niece.

Also, given the high number of African immigrants in Eltham, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who jacked your phone was probbaly a Nigerian or maybe a Somalian.

'I will not want to believe that the authorities involved in the situation deliberately or cleverly punished me unnecessarily out of frustration' - Ayo Omotade

The Police aren't right, but Ayo brought it on himself.

I am sure he is realizes that now and is wondering if opening his mouth because the disturbances caused by the Deportee were was worth missing his brother's wedding for. undecided

Note that he clearly states 'Disturbances' and not he thought the Deportee was in harms way.

I had to stay at MM airport after missing my flight. It is safe, I suppose but very uncomfortable. Make sure you have lots of snacks and drinks with you as the few bars there close around 12am and sweet machines are non-existent. The toilets are not the best either but I think there was running water and so you should be able to brush your teeth and wash your face in the morning.

My unfortunate stay was in 2006 though and so it may be a bit better today.

Since you are arriving at 10pm, you could perhaps chance it and go to a nearby hotel.

You posted one of my quotes and so I feel obligated to respond. grin

First of, I don't believe that anyone is going to die once they set foot on Nigerian soil after living abroad for a few years. Cries from a Nigerian being deported about dying upon their arrival in their homelands are totally off-base and purely  meant to the solicit sympathy vote from onlookers, hoping that that will somehow get them a reprieve. As bad as Nigeria is, it is not a war zone and there isn't a famine.

I also did not find the episode with the wheelchair lady funny per see but the I did, the fact that several Nigerians on that flight told her to shut up and to stop embarrassing herself and Nigeria. I guess they weren't buying it either. grin

he said the wailing went on for over 20 mins. Can you possibly imagine how annoying that must have been? I'm sure if the dude just made the noise once, nothing would have happen but he freaking went on and on, who wouldnt complain?

Gosh some of you are so gross. "Well we don't get treated well in Nigeria so let's just accept any kind of treatment in foreign countries." Disgusting. Rubbish.

Point is they should get aircrafts specifically for these people and make us hear word. We pay our tickets thus we have the right to peace and quiet.

There you go talking out of you’re a$$ again.

So the police do not arrest people for interfering with Police duties in America?
http://www.infoshop.org/inews/article.php?story=20071024144939684

After the interdiction, Cox approached the officers again, asking for identification. The ACLU worker said both officers refused to give their identification numbers, counter to municipal policy. The female officer even covered her badge.

Another officer pulled up, and eventually one of the officers told Cox that he was being arrested for “interfering with a police investigation.”

Are you sure you are in America or are you just another glorified couch potato in Nigeria thinking you know about the world when really you don’t know didley squat!

As I have said, Mr. Omotade interfered with Police duties and got his just desserts for doing so. Granted, no one really likes to travel with a Deportee who is incessantly crying their eyes out about their predicament, but guess what? Shit happens! And it will continue to happen as long as the Government tries to save on a buck or two by not hiring a whole charter flight just to take one Deportee home!

http://cf.alpa.org/internet/tm/tm061198.htm
According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) deported more than 23,000 illegal immigrants last year via commercial airline aircraft; other reports place this number even higher.

Deportees of every nationality are shipped back to their respective countries on commercial flights every day from various countries such as the US, Europe, Canada and China. It seems that it is only when Nigeria is concerned that people feel that they require special treatment because they have paid! Please! Are Nigerians the only ones who pay for their flights?

And yes, instead of Nigerians doing a song and dance out of this, in my view, they should really put more energy into trying to sort out the more serious issues of negligence that are killing innocent people in plane crashes every month or so in their own country.

Furthermore, if some Nigerians feel they should be treated with more respect on international flights then maybe they should start behaving like they deserve it. Just because one pays for something it does not entitle you to be abusive to your hostesses and to still expecting courteous behaviour in return!

As I said before Mr.Omotade should have kept a zip on it. I wonder if he now thinks it was worth speaking up seeing as he missed his brother's wedding because of it.

The man wasn't dying but was afraid that he would die if sent to Nigeria and hence the reason why he was making so much noise. No one should have to travel under such conditions but maybe a an official complaint against the airline might have sufficed instead of confronting immigration officials doing their job.

I am not privy to Police procedure but I have heard that Heathrow was on high security red alert on that day. In such situations, once the Police are given orders about a disturbance on an aircraft they go in like zombies and ask questions later.

Deportation exercise fails after misbehaving Nigerian prisoners taken off flight from Venezuela

BY CORDIELLE STREET

After being refused port of entry visas for approximately 15 illegal Africans, Government is left with no choice but to charter a flight directly to Nigeria for their deportation.

This comes in the wake of a failed deportation exercise in early June, when six Nigerian prisoners were taken off a commercial flight from Venezuela, bound for Nigeria via Spain, because of misconduct.

Chief Immigration Officer Herman Brown, in a phone interview yesterday, said T&T exhausted all its appeals to countries like France, England and Spain to accommodate the deportation.

He said after much lobbying, Spain agreed to be a transit country, but will no longer extend the offer after the “misbehaviour” of the six Nigerian deportees.

“They became a threat and a risk,” said Brown.

After leaving T&T, the Nigerian deportees, escorted by immigration and police officials, boarded a commercial flight, he said.

While on the plane, they began “misbehaving,” using abusive language and was promptly taken off of the flight by Venezuelan officials.

http://www.tntmirror.com/sunday/2006/jun18/story03.htm
An Immigration source said when the Nigerian High Commission was contacted to inform them that the deportees came back, an official replied: “Let them rot in jail.”

I see, you are one of those petty ones who like to carry grudges from thread to thread. Lighten up M'dear as this is after all, only a message board. No need to take it so seriously to the point where you are still remembering comments made in a thread that has long since died and gone. grin

BA is not the only commercial airline that transports Deportees back to their countries with paying customers on board. Deportees of other nationalities are (by most accounts) also transferred peacefully all the while maintaining their dignity and self respect.

Do Nigerians feel that Nigerian Deportees deserve unique treatment in that they should be transferred on different flights because they are more likely to make a scene when been sent home?

I can just see the threads on Nairaland now screaming racism and all sorts if that were the case. While Deportees of other nationalities would be deported like human beings with dignity on commercial flights and treated like fare paying passengers, Nigerians, on the other hand should be handcuffed and transfered like common criminals because of their tendency to loudly vocalize their objections at being deported.

As I said I fail to to see how one woman's courage to start the civil right's movement in America can be compared to another man speaking up because a Deportee was making too much noise on his flight.
