There is wild jubilation and celebration in Paris and other cities in France as the country beat Croatia 4-2 to win soccer’s World Cup in a pulsating final in Moscow. In the capital, where 90,000 people watched the match on vast TV screens next to the Eiffel tower, there were choruses of the Marseillaise, honking horns and hundreds of thousands of red, white and blue tricolor flags fluttering on the breeze. The boom of fireworks and firecrackers filled the air, while drivers honked their horns incessantly to celebrate France’s second world title after their triumph on home soil in 1998. A deafening chorus of “We are the champions, We are the champions” rang out from the Sacre Coeur in the north of the city to the Sorbonne on the Left Bank. Similar scenes erupted in Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux and other major cities. Even before the final whistle, crowds streamed on to the Champs Elysees, the elegant, tree-lined boulevard that runs up to the Arc de Triomphe, the traditional gathering place for celebration, including the Bastille Day parade 24 hours earlier. The entire area around the Arc de Triomphe, all the way down the two-kilometer-long Champs Elysees and the Place de la Concorde at its end was a sea of singing and cheering people. “It’s just astonishing what they’ve done,” said Josh, 41, who traveled from Brittany to Paris to watch the match with his girlfriend. “Pogba, Mbappe, Grizou (Griezmann) — they’re on top of the world,” he said, naming three of the standout players. “We’re the champions of the world! It’s phenomenal, just phenomenal.” More than 250,000 people were expected to descend on the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Concorde, yet the atmosphere was warm and convivial. Security forces kept a distance. “To get a second star (World Cup) after 20 years, it’s just brilliant,” said Tommy Hamon, 23, who was working in Le Deauville, a bar on the Champs Elysees. https://lailasnews.com/celebration-in-paris-as-france-wins-world-cup/

Another Nigerian allegedly shot dead in South Africa According to reports coming from South Africa, there has been another killing of a Nigerian in the country. The man identified as Martin Ebuzoeme, was allegedly shot dead by unknown assailant. The President of Nigerian Union in South Africa, Mr. Adetola Olubola, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday, that the victim was killed in Yeoville, Johannesburg, around 7:30pm on July 12. The killing came barely 24 hours after the visit of South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, to Nigeria. Ramaphosa had during his visit on July 11 said that the killing of Nigerians and other foreign nationals in the country was an act of criminality, not specifically targeted at Nigerians. ”The killings are caused by high level of unemployment among the youth as well as other social factors emanating from long apartheid misrule. ”Government is however, doing all best possible to bring it down,” Ramaphosa had said. The Nigeria Consul General in Johannesburg, Mr Godwin Adama, said that latest killing did not have anything to do with xenophobic attacks. Adama told the reporters on phone from Johannesburg that the killing happened in a crime invested area of the country. ”The man was killed by unknown gunmen and has nothing to do with xenophobic. “The place is a crime prone area and those kind of assassinations happened often in that area. ”There is no investigation that showed that it was xenophobic. ”Within a year here, we have about 16,000 murders which do not necessarily have anything to do with any national of a particular country,” he said. The killing of Nigerians in South Africa had been on the increase in recent times. Before the latest one, there was the assassination of Mr Ozumba Tochukwu-Lawrence, by an unknown gunman at 10 Koppe, Middleburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa, on July 6. Another Nigerian, ThankGod Okoro, was also reportedly shot dead in Hamburg, Florida West Rand, Johannesburg, on April 9 by the South African Police Flying Squad. There was also the killing of Clement Nwaogu in April, a father of two, who was burnt to death by his assailant. The wanton killings of Nigerians in South Africa had sparked a number of protests there. For demanding justice on behalf of their fallen compatriots, 14 of the protesters were taken into custody and branded drug peddlers. https://lailasnews.com/another-nigerian-allegedly-shot-dead-in-south-africa/

An OAP with a radio station in Lagos, Misi Molu, had in the previous week stated during an interview with Nigerian singer Yemi Alade that she actually rates Yemi higher compared to her colleague Tiwa Savage. Days after a recording of the interview was posted online, Tiwa Savage made a series of posts to insinuate that Misi Molu had earlier begged her for money via social media shortly before airing her views about her talent. She wrote: “Wow! They beg you for money today and talk trash tomorrow because it’s not personal; they’re just doing their job, abi?” In another post, she stated: “Celebrities are human o. You can’t beg for money then talk trash and expect me to not catch feelings. Like, are you serious? Next time you think of sliding in my DM asking for money or anything; remember your personal opinion and miss me with your BS.” However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Misi Molu challenged singer Tiwa Savage to present evidence that she had contacted her for financial assistance. Reacting to Savage’s posts, she said: “Personally, I don’t believe she was talking about me. But if she is, she needs to show evidence to that fact. The situation has been blown way out of proportion than what the intentions of the discussion were actually meant to be. People are giving it way too much credence.” On the propriety of comparing both artistes, especially when Yemi was in the studio with her,Misi Molu said, “The type of industry we are in; we are constantly faced with comparison. For example, I have a colleague I’m constantly compared to at work. I did my job by showing my personality as an on air personality. The only problem is that some people do not agree with my opinion and that’s fine.” Meanwhile, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, Yemi Alade refused to comment on her comparism with Tiwa Savage but she maintained her stance that there was no number one artiste in the country. Speaking through her manager, Taye Aliyu, she said: “All of the top artistes in the country are blessed by God and they are all doing well in their respective ways. We don’t always have to compare artistes because they have their individual uniqueness. Yemi is always focused on her craft; she doesn’t have time for rivalry.” https://lailasnews.com/tiwa-savage-should-prove-i-begged-her-for-money-misi-molu/ lalasticlala

Nollywood actress Chika Ike has opened in a new interview that she normally says her prayers before logging into popular photo sharing App, Instagram. Chika Ike made this revelation while speaking with Sunday Scoop. She maintained that she was aware the negativity spreading all over the Internet, especially on Instagram, had the ability to spoil one’s day. “Instagram can spoil your day if you are not careful or strong. There is so much negativity in the world right now; so, you have to guard yourself with prayers. There is a need to start your day in a positive light and when you pray, your day has started positively,” she added. Speaking on why she wrote a book on her failed marriage and father’s rejection, she said God deliberately made everyone to go through certain things in life so that one could learn and share. The actress said, “If you go through a lot of things and you are not willing to share, you’ve not achieved the purpose of God for your life. People will always have their perspectives about life and they talk about the dead too. I have gone through the phase of being scared or afraid of being judged by the public. I am learning every day to focus on myself; I cannot control anyone’s thoughts. I was rejected from birth by my father and I addressed it in my new book.” In the said book, Ike also stressed the role her mother played in her life before she died: “Before my mother died three years ago, I had a discussion with her in the hospital. She wanted to know when I would publish my book; she was once an author too. I told her I was scared and she told me to tell the truth,” said the actress. “When she died, I lost myself for two years and I did a lot of therapy to get myself together. I was so attached to my mother and I didn’t want to disappoint her because she gave me her last word. My mother’s death made me understand that life is too short and we don’t have much time on earth. We don’t know how tomorrow would be; so, the earlier we started achieving our set goals, the better for us. It took me seven years to write my book because I was afraid to share some private things about me at some point. ” https://lailasnews.com/why-i-pray-before-going-on-instagram-chika-ike/ lalasticlala

The Nigeria Broadcasting Commission has shut the Ekiti State Broadcasting Corporation after Governor Ayodele Fayose went on air to announce the PDP candidate as the winner of the governorship election that was held in the state on Saturday. The INEC was still collating results of the election, awaiting electronic computation from the 16 council areas in the state to the INEC headquarters when the NBC ordered the closure. The INEC headquarters was condoned off as results were being awaited. However, no winner had emerged as of the time the governor reportedly made the announcement, and the broadcasting regulatory agency gave the order. The APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi later recorded the highest votes at the election. Recollect that the NBC had earlier slammed a N500,000 fine on the Ekiti State Broadcasting Corporation for violation of the ethical standards of broadcasting in the country. The Director-General of NBC, Malam Ishaq Modibbo Kawu has said that the appointment of the Acting Director-General of Ekiti Broadcasting Service, Lere Olayinka, as the Spokesperson of Kolapo Olusola Campaign Organisation (KOCO), was not in conformity with the ethical standard of broadcasting. Kawu said that NBC had written to the station and drawn its attention to the violation of the code, but that words of caution were ignored. Governor Ayodele Fayose had earlier called out the All Progressive Congress, APC over alleged malpractice during the election. https://lailasnews.com/ekiti-tv-radio-shut-after-fayose-announced-pdp-candidate-as-winner-of-election/ lalasticlala

He however adds a caveat: “I’m not getting younger. Sixty years is no joke. But it doesn’t make sense to go out and get somebody if you don’t have the time. Right now, things are really, really very busy, because we have the refinery, we have the petrochemicals, we have the fertiliser, we have the gas pipeline.” But he agrees that he needs to “calm down a bit”. Receives more than 100 calls in a day As expected, Dangote has a very busy schedule, but who would have guessed that he may also be one of Africa’s busiest, taking over 100 calls per day. Speaking of his relationship with Tony Blair, former British prime minister, Dangote says Blair only makes three calls per day. But he has to battle with scores, and tonnes of emails. About his mails, he says: “you try to be polite and reply but they come back to you with a longer email, not minding that here is a very, very busy person”. “Look Aliko, the world is not going to fall apart if you don’t answer your phone,” Dangote says of his golden advise from Blair. https://lailasnews.com/aliko-dangote-talks-about-getting-a-new-wife-in-new-interview/ lalasticlala

The ghost of the slain Ondo State ex deputy governor's daughter, Khadijat Oluboyo, was reported to have led the boy that discovered her grave, to where she was buried in her ex-boyfriend's room, Vanguard reports. Khadijat Oluboyo was found dead underneath her boyfriend’s bed on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Oke Aro extension, Akure, Ondo area. The name of her boyfriend has been given as Adeyemi Alao. Reports allege that she was murdered for ritual purposes. Alao is now a suspect who has been taken into police custody. The ghost subsequently led Mutiu to Adeyemi's room where the suspect was frantically trying to conceal the corpse. The suspect was said to be residing at the boys’ quarter in his father’s compound at the time of the murder. Reports say he was trying to evacuate Khadijat’s decomposing corpse from under his bed when his brother, Mutiu, found him out. The Nigeria Consulate-General in South Africa said that the ugly incident was said to have occurred at 10 Koppe, Middleburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa, on July 6. The mission said that Lawrence was shot six times by his assailant and died before reaching hospital. Dabiri-Erewa on Sunday in Abuja described the recent killing as unfortunate. A woman identified as Therese Patricia Okoumou has climbed up to the robes of the Statue of Liberty to protest the separation of migrant families. Therese Patricia Okoumou climbs base of the Statue of Liberty in protest lailasnews 2 Authorities had tried to talk the woman down but she refused to leave. For nearly three hours, she crossed the base of the statue, at times sitting in the folds of the statue's dress and under Lady Liberty's sandal. Therese Patricia Okoumou was part of a group of protesters and had declared that she wouldn't come down until "all the children are released," a source with the New York Police Department said. About 16 officers with the New York City Police Department's Emergency Service Unit -- a team trained to perform some of the most dangerous rescues in the city -- took part in the rescue/apprehension effort, Officer Brian Glacken said in a news conference Wednesday evening. "At first, she wasn't friendly with us, but we took the time to get a rapport with her so that took a while," said Glacken. "She just kind of mentioned the kids in Texas. I guess the whole debate that's going on about that. In the beginning, she threatened to push us off, push the ladder off, but we stayed with her," Glacken added. Finally, officers with ropes and climbing gear reached her. "At first she was being a little combative, then she was willing to cooperate with us. She actually apologized to us for having to go up and get her," Glacken told reporters. Officers put a harness and ropes on her to bring her down, and she crossed to the other side of the statue with the officers where a ladder was propped up on the base of the statue. https://lailasnews.com/therese-patricia-okoumou-climbs-base-of-the-statue-of-liberty-to-protest-migrant-family-separations/ lalasticlala

Procter & Gamble (P&G) may be shutting down its production plant situated in Agbara Industrial Estate, Southwest, Nigeria, exactly one year after launching the $300 million factory, Premium Times reports. P&G, one of the leading FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) manufacturers, commissioned the production line in June 2017 with Nigeria's Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State in attendance. Why P&G is shutting down the Agbara plant An insider familiar with the development disclosed to Premium Times that “the company is battling with the challenge posed by government policies that regulate the importation of raw materials for its production.” Another source said the cost of importing raw materials was becoming unbearable for the company, which has refused to involve in shady deals in order to cheat the system and ease importation. “It is so expensive to import these raw materials which are not produced in Nigeria. Other companies take the shortcut by manoeuvring the system, but we cannot,” a top official of the firm told the online newspaper. Another source said the factor responsible for the shutdown was the unhealthy competition being faced by the company. “Our competitors invested much less in their factory, can manoeuvre their way in the system, and thus produce and sell for much less. We cannot do that. Our investment in Agbara is arguably the largest single investment by a non-oil firm in Nigeria. But we just have to shut it. The loss is much,” the source said. The report about the shut down is expected to affect closed to 120 employees who are gradually being laid off in preparation for the eventual closedown. An anonymous source said “about 30 staff will be left who may either be outsourced or deployed” to the Ibadan plant. https://lailasnews.com/see-why-pg-is-shutting-down-its-300-million-agbara-production-factory/ lalasticlala

Benin has buried Dah Dedjalagni Agoli-Agbo, king of Dahomey , after he “returned to the realm of his ancestors,” a court official said on Tuesday. The monarch, whose age was a matter of dispute but was said by his younger brother to have been 84, was interred overnight on Monday only hours after his demise, in line with royal tradition, Dah Avoussibesse Tozonnou Adimagbe said. “Sadness has invaded the royal palace of Gbindo,” the official said, reached by phone, using a synonym as it is taboo to mention the word “death” after the king’s demise. A police officer by training who had 41 wives, Agoli-Agbo was the latest in a long line of monarchs to the throne of Dahomey. He acceded in 2010. The kingdom existed for nearly 400 years until its last ruling king, Behanzin, was defeated by the French in 1894, and the country became incorporated into France’s West African empire. The kingdom was a major regional power built on conquest and the slave trade, but also fostered major works of art and had an all-female military unit that the French called the “Amazons of Dahomey.” Modern-day kings of Dahomey have no powers under Benin’s constitution but retain much political and economic influence. A date for Agoli-Agbo’s funeral will be decided by the next king, the palace said. The title has been disputed by various branches of the family since 1989. https://lailasnews.com/ancestral-king-of-dahomey-married-to-41-wives-dies-at-84/ lalasticlala

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have reportedly stormed a popular secondary school in Ekiti, Ola Oluwa Muslim Grammar School, and arrested some members of staff. Those arrested are the Secretary to the Principal, one Mrs. Olagbemi, and an Office Assistant, one Mrs. Ogunrinde, PunchNG reports. They were arrested for allegedly collecting Permanent Voter Cards from teachers. The Principal of Olaoluwa Muslim Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Sunmonu Olaoye, confirmed the arrest to journalists. He said the DSS officers came in some Hilux vehicles and right from the gate of the school, they started harassing people as if they were on a war mission. “The DSS operatives were in black uniforms and also wore black masks and headed for my office. I wasn’t in the office but I was on the premises to monitor the ongoing third term examinations. Some of my staff members were in my office making photocopies of their documents including their PVCs. “I allowed them to make use of the school’s facilities because I don’t want anything to disrupt the ongoing examinations. The DSS people just swooped on the teachers, seized their documents including their PVCs and took away two members of staff. They also locked up my office and denied us access to examination materials we were to give to our students. “I don’t know when making photocopies of documents including PVCs became an offence. One of the operatives even called my number saying I must report in their office within an hour or I would be treated as a common criminal. “We have 123 teachers in the school and the people are resolved on who they will vote for during the poll regardless of intimidation and harassment.” Olaoye calls for the release of those arrested because they did not commit any offence and that their documents including their PVCs should be returned to them. “We are in a democracy and people reserve the right to vote the candidate of their choice. Harassing or intimidating people is not a democratic practice,” he added. https://lailasnews.com/dss-storms-ekiti-school-arrests-teachers-over-pvc-collection/

The National rugby team of Zimbabwe, in what can be considered as a humiliating situation, has been forced to sleep on the street of Tunis, Tunisia while returning home from Kenya. “Our national rugby team the Sables are being treated in the most appalling way in Tunisa. They have been forced to sleep on the streets as the accommodation they were provided with is disgusting,” Coltart said in a Tuesday morning Facebook post. This followed most team members only sleeping for two hours the previous night. "On arrival they spent 6 hours held up at border and the authorities have taken their passports claiming they need to pay for visas amounting to 600 euro which they cant pay as they dont have funds. Most team members only had 2 hours sleep last night. The ZRU board appear to have done nothing about the situation along with the SRC. Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has praised the men of God criticizing the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, but he however asked them to take caution as their lives may be at risk, DailyPost reports. In a tweet on Monday, Femi-Kayode listed a few of the clerics who have spoken up recently and said he was “proud” of them. “I am proud of the Pentecostals. They are standing up to the evil in the land like never before, even at risk to their lives and liberty. “Bishop Oyedepo, Bishop El Buba, Apostle Suleman, Pastor Enenche, Pastor Ibiyeomi, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, Prophet TB Joshua and Pastor Sarah Omakwu,” he wrote. He described it as a plan by the Fulani to colonize Nigeria. Adefarasin criticized the Nigerian government for not doing anything to protect the people in the Middle Belt, who are under the constant attack from armed Fulani herdsmen. Referring to the history of how Uthman Dan Fodio came to colonize Nigeria, the fiery preacher said the Fulanis had been summoned from other countries to complete the colonization plan of Uthman Dan Fodio in Nigeria. The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday granted bail to the immediate-past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), from the custody of the Department of State Service where he had been detained for two and a half years. Delivering judgment in the suit filed by the ex-NSA in March this year, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu ruled that his detention since December 29, 2015, amounted to a violation of his right to liberty, Premium Times reports. The judge, who rejected the ex-NSA’s prayer for N5bn damages granted him bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties who must either be a civil servant of Grade Level 16 at the minimum in the Federal Civil Service or private citizens, who have landed properties in the municipal areas of Abuja. Dasuki granted N200 million bail by Abuja court lailasnews She ruled that the Federal Government’s contention that Dasuki was being kept in custody on the grounds of his alleged threat to national security and his alleged ongoing investigation for money laundering did not warrant “abrogating his right”. In granting him bail, the judge said should there be any further reason to interrogate him, DSS could only invite and interview him between the hours of 9am and 6pm on working days. This judgment came about one year and nine months after the Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice on October 4, 2016, ordered his release from illegal custody; a judgement which the DSS had not obeyed. https://lailasnews.com/dasuki-granted-n200-million-bail-by-abuja-court/

Life comes at you fast! The word on the street is that the XXXTentacion's alleged killer who is currently in prison for his alleged involvement in the rapper’s murder, was raped and assaulted by some men. According to reports floating around the internet, Dedrick Williams—one of three men who robbed and shot XXXTentacion to death—was raped in Broward County Jail, and the word is that incarcerated Florida rapper Kodak Black had something to do with it. The website Hip-Hop Overload quotes a reliable source who works in the Dade County Jail system. According to them, the alleged rape and assault happened Wednesday, the same day a public memorial was held for XXXTentacion at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL. Hip-Hop Overload reports: Word we got from our informant is that he was told Dedrick was getting a shower when he was ambushed with an attempted rape, which in jail is the ultimate sign of disrespect. We are told that Kodak Black people may have had something to do with it. This makes total sense because XXXTentacion and Kodak Black are extremely tight friends like brothers.HHO also provided screenshots from a text message exchange with their informant. “They got him today! XXXTentacion’s killer, [they] got him in [the] shower! Got him pretty bad. Rape and all,” reads the thread. “Word I got is [Kodak Black’s] people [did it]. Had to move Dedrick to PC [Protective Custody]. It was bad.”What’s surprising is that Williams, 22, wasn’t already in protective custody, considering how high profile his case is. There are no credible reports to back HHO’s story up, but, then again, the mainstream media doesn’t usually report on prison violence anyway, especially rape. Police are still looking for the other two men responsible for XXXTentacion’s shooting death. https://lailasnews.com/xxxtentacions-alleged-killer-was-reportedly-raped-assaulted-in-jail/ lalasticlala

Former Big Brother Nigeria contestant, Gifty Powers, is not new to controversies. The actress has been seen many times putting up nude photos of herself on social media and also lending her voice on trending issues on the internet. But in a new interview with Sunday Scoop, Gifty Powers mentioned that the she deliberately create these controversies as she is not bothered anymore about what people say about her. She told Sunday Scoop: “I created controversy. I turn it on and off whenever I please. As a public figure, one eventually gets used to people saying all sorts. I am totally at peace. I love all my fans and that’s what counts. For the naysayers, thanks for hating me; keep the job hot. I play my roles. Besides, no one is good on this planet. If they see me as a bad girl, then I am the worst girl.” On whether she feels the reaction of people to the picture was hypocritical, she said: “Probably. It’s normal for celebrities to attract both lovers and haters. If an artistic image of me attracts more views and for that reason, some folks are hating on it, then let them have all the fun hating. They should continue if it feeds them in some way. In my professional opinion, the artistic image of me was merely suggestive and not provocative; there is nothing indecent about it. It’s art in an idealistic form. I could even decide to sell the picture.” https://lailasnews.com/i-intentionally-create-controversies-gifty-powers-says/ lalasticlala
