I don't agree with bonfre jo, The super eagles are now faster in their build up compared to the last 15 years. He crowned his rubbissh talks with possible match fixing in the african nations cup. While i might agree with him on the inefficiency of the NFF and the sport ministry during his time, i also believe there has been a significant improvement in the attitude of the sport ministry and NFF, most especially to the coach and provision of friendly matches.

One common thing about all the pictures is Fashola cutting a red tape!! I have thrown a challenge to them to tell me how many of them really enjoy from all these projects Fashola has been cutting red tape!!

I have challenged them to name schools they are sure Fashola solely built with state funds, rather someone is telling me "Fashola built 638 schools" . I challenge him to name only 5 with their locations and we will burst their bubble with facts!!

I have challenged them to name the housing estate built by Fashola with LASG funds and am yet to see any response,!!

I challenged them to tell me how many agro -mart are in Lagos and which of them go there to buy food?? I further challenged them to tell me where Eko rice is sold in the market and who in this Forum has eaten it!! Even Fashola doesn't eat it! Its only good for photographs!!

If Fashola has done all this they claim he has done, why are Lagosians still finding life difficulthuh In as much as they may want to deny that fact, but deep within them , their conscience is flogging them with guilt !!!
I understand you are embittered, pele. ndo grin grin.

Fashola Visits Adiyan Water Works Expansion Project, Says State has Planned Water Supply till 2020

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday paid an inspection visit to the on-going expansion of Adiyan Water
Works to deliver 70 million gallons of water per day, stating that the present administration has planned water supply for the state
till year 2020.

The Governor who spoke in an interview with State House Correspondents after the inspection said the water projects which
the administration is now implementing will take her to sustainable and efficient water supply.

He added that currently, there are reticulation contracts that have been issued including pipe networks and pipelines being laid
across the state to receive the supply of water when it is done.

He explained that the planned expansion work at Adiyan, which has been on the drawing board since the 1970s, is expected to give the
state 70 million gallons of water per day which is the combined capacity of all the mini water works and micro water works with
two million gallons capacity in 35 places.

He added that essentially the Adiyan expansion will help the government to seve areas like Iju, Agege, Mushin, Ilupeju all of
whom are actually close to the Iju water works but really do not get water because water from Iju is often pumped straight to the
Island.

“It will help us relieve pressure from Iju Waterworks and Adiyan Phase One by implementing the expansion which they planned almost
three decades ago and bring water to people in those areas that I have mentioned”.

“It will also increase our capacity therefore to sustain life, prevent disease, provide healthy living at affordable cost, reduce
the dependency that our people currently have in purchasing water, some of which is of questionable integrity”, he explained.

Speaking on the likelihood of power constituting a problem, the Governor said that has already been taken care of in all of the
projects planned. He was certain that power will not constitute any problems at all.

On complaints from residents of new areas in Lagos that public water supply does not get to them, the Governor said as part of
efforts to tackle such problems work has just been completed on Ota Ikosi towards Lekki –Ibeju and would soon be handed over.

He added that the new scheme which is undergoing testing will help in supplying water to people across the channel in an expansion
that is being taken through Ikorodu town and the Ishasi Water works.

“We are currently evaluating it for an upgrade to about 12 million gallons from about four million gallons. Work is on-going and in
that sense when that is completed we will dedicate that to the whole of Badagry”, he stated.

Governor Fashola Finally Makes His Presence Known At Festac Grammar School Nov 2011
http://nigeriavillagesquare.com/adeola-aderounmu/governor-fashola-finally-makes-his-presence-known-at-festac-grammar-school.html

In April when this struggle started I had written that one of the greatest mysteries of Lagos State Ministry of Education is how a school that got the first prototype one storey-structure in the old Ojo Local Government was left to rot away totally as a predominantly poultry school. It seems that the government of Governor Fashola, in a reaction to the series of stories about the embarrassing situations at FGS, is set to repair, renovate and re-construct FGS.

I also made a promise that was hard to keep. But I did my best. The ultimate goal was to write about Festac Grammar School once a month because as I stated then: the problems with Festac Grammar School became for me a personal struggle. It is still a cause.

Now that hope has come, I feel obliged to write this story about the presence of Governor Fashola in Festac Grammar School through Acces-1 Energy Trading Company.

I have not received the details of the contract; therefore I am not in a position to describe the extent of the work that will be done.

However I do know the old storey building that was built in 1985 has now been given some re-touching in terms of structural maintenance.

One of the dilapidated poultry block of classrooms has been pulled down completely to pave way for a new storey building of 12 classrooms.
These developments are in the positive directions. They are in line with one of the long-term objectives of the Alumni Association to ensure that the school poultry structures built by Lateef Jakande are overhauled and replaced by modern storey buildings.

This objective should never be different from the functions of the Lagos State Ministry of Education. How schools are allowed to rotten remain inexplicable and if we tie it to the systemic corruption in the Nigeria system then it is an indication of what I feared most: that the future of the unborn generations remain stolen.
Whichever way, it gladdens the heart and it brings a sense of fulfillment to witness the re-construction work at FGS. Without any doubt I am convinced that it was a rapid response to our calls that have been made on the NVS and some of our blogs
The Lagos State Government has shown that we do not need to know anyone in the corridors at Alausa in Ikeja before our agitations can be attended to. What the LASG must also ensure is that it carries out its functions without allowing us to carry the burdens to the web space all the time.

Our agitations and concerns are genuine and noble. It is clear that we want education to be promoted. A sane environment is necessary to produce sane minds. A sane environment is necessary to nurture the future generations.

On our part as members of the Alumni Group we have made progresses. We have donated some equipment to the school and we have helped them to settle electricity bills. We have more plans.

In terms of our organization we are now duly registered and our activities are governed by a written constitution. We are in the process of electing our executive members to take over from the caretaker committee and more than ever before the future of the Alumni Group look secured.

This year, less than 5 months after we re-converged as Alumni Group from our different niches we have organized career day/ workshop at Festac Grammar School and we have awarded prizes to outstanding students.

We have made ourselves more visible in Festac Town and we have provided ourselves with the platform that will motivate the students attending Festac Grammar School. They are now in contact with us. We have a wonderful opportunity to be their role models and mentors.

For us this year is a success story in the history of our Alumni Group.

Lagos State security trust fund

The Lagos State security trust fund was conceived by His Excellency the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola and established by a Law of the Lagos State House of Assembly in September 2007. The idea of establishing the fund which would be modeled on a public/private arrangement became imperative when the Governor received and reviewed the report of the high powered Security Committee he established under the chairmanship of Alhaji Musiliu Smith, former Inspector General of Police, to look into ways and means of combating the growing menace of violent crimes in the state and the seeming inability of the police to confront this challenge in spite of their best endeavours.

A review of the report made it crystal clear that the problem was essentially related to logistics, mobility, communications, kitting and so on especially when considering the peculiar challenges the state poses. It was the finding of the Security committee that a minimum of N3.7B was required as the cost of providing standard security cover for Lagos State including the waterways.

Why a Trust Fund

The Fund was a practical response to the reality of the operational deficiency of the Police and other federal security agencies within the state due to long years of neglect by the Federal government, particularly in areas of funding and provision of modern equipment. The Fund is essentially a public-private partnership in response to the challenges of security.

Structure of the Fund

The fund is designed to operate as a public-private partnership. This approach was chosen to guarantee regular access to funding, faster decision making and accountability. The Fund comprises a Board of Trustees headed by a Chairman and an Executive Secretary who is responsible for the day to day administration of the Fund. The members of the Board and Executive Secretary are appointed by the Governor for a fixed term as provided in the Law.

Objectives of the fund

Foster effective, enduring public-private partnership for crime prevention, containment and eradication in Lagos State.
Pursue private, corporate, local, state and federal funding opportunities to accomplish the state’s security goals.
Review and recommend funding for qualifying security projects.
Acquisition and deployment of security equipment and such human, material and financial resources for effective functioning of all federal, state , local and other security agencies operating in the state.
Provision of funds for the training and retraining of security personnel in Lagos state.

Lagos Govt Builds Eight Maternal and Childcare Centres in Five Years
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Thursday launched the Maternal and Child Care Mortality Reduction Programme in the state, saying it has built eight maternal and child care hospitals in the past five years to provide life saving services to mothers and children.

Fashola, who spoke at the Blueroof Hall, LTV 8 Complex Agidingbi, said five have gone into full operation, while out of the remaining three, two have been completed with training of staff that have been specially recruited to be familiar with the equipment and the facilities before being deployed currently going on.

The governor said government was not done yet as it had awarded another two MCCs in Badagry and Epe to ensure that the project to reduce distance to hospital for pregnant women, is statewide and all embracing.

Fashola who took a retrospective look at the programme, said it is a project within a comprehensive programme that started in 2007, adding that when he was elected governor one of the challenges he resolved to confront was the unacceptable index of women of children or both who lost their lives in the process of giving life.
He said his interactions with professionals in the medical fields both within the state service and private sector showed the many causes of infant and maternal mortality which were many and varied.

Among them were the issues of diet, lifestyle, undiagnosed non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, complications during pregnancy, quackery, distance to properly equipped hospitals which sometimes led to fatalities during emergencies.

The governor who gave a status report on each of the factors said as at today, government has resolved a number of them and still has its hands on the plough to overcome those that are still receiving attention.

On diabetes and hypertension screening and treatment which was one of the first to be flagged off at Ifako-Ijaiye on assumption of office, between 2007 and July 2012, he said a total of 96,468 people have been screened and is still continuing.

“What was most revealing was the lack of knowledge about our people and women of child bearing age about the lifestyle choices and what they ate and how this pre-disposed them to risk during pregnancy.”

Lagos State Government Rehabilitates 5,090 Schools In Five Years

The Lagos State Government on Friday said it had renovated more than 5,090 primary and secondary schools in the last five years. Gov. Babatunde Fashola disclosed this at Ikotun at an event to mark his 1,900 days in office. The governor was represented by Mr Tunji Bello, Commissioner for the Environment. Fashola said thAT 3,052 blocks of classrooms were also constructed within the period. “‘We have also installed 170 science laboratories in 170 schools, while 120 laboratories have been provided in 120 schools; 119,837 pieces of furniture were also provided in primary and secondary schools. “The whole idea of all of these interventions is to enhance the standard of teaching and learning with a view to boosting students’ academic performance. “And the improved performance of our students in the last WAEC examination clearly shows that all our interventions in the education sector have not been in vain,”he said. He disclosed that 2,051 teachers were recruited to reduce teacher-pupil ratio and make teaching more effective. The governor urged residents to support the government in its effort to transform the sector by paying their taxes. Earlier, Bello said the state government decided to take the event commemorating its 1,900 days to the grassroots, to bring the government closer to the people. “Organising this occasion simultaneously at the three senatorial districts of the state and not at the traditional venue – the state secretariat — is to bring government closer to the people and understand them. “‘The government is committed to delivering more dividends of democracy. We want to listen to you and serve you better and that is why we are here,” the commissioner said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Head of Service, Mr Adesegun Ogunlewe, commissioners, council chairmen and other officials attended the event.

PPP is the paradigm shift in governance, a governor should be judged by the strength of his partnership with private corporations.

The concept /idea of a project by the government and then being able to attract private investors is worthy of commendation.
