LocalChamp: Jonathan consults with Tinubu, Fashola, Akiolu On April 30, 2012 · In News 1:01 amEmail0
BY DAPO AKINREFON LAGOS — President Goodluck Jonathan, weekend, met with national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu behind closed doors.
The meeting in State House, Marina, Lagos took place as President Jonathan returned from Ivory Coast where he joined other regional leaders for an emergency summit of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
Jonathan consults with Tinubu
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has, however, dismissed any political benefit for Jonathan from associating with Tinubu, describing the former Lagos State Governor as more of a liability than an asset for the President’s political calculations.
A reliable source told Vanguard that besides Tinubu, others at the meeting were Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State; the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Dimeji Bankole.
The meeting followed increasing talks on the President’s future which has seen a number of his associates advocating a second term for Jonathan who first stepped into office in 2010 to complete the four-year tenure of his former boss, late President Umaru Yar‘Adua.
Weekend’s meeting aroused interest in political circles following speculations that Asiwaju Tinubu, just like Jonathan, could also be contesting the next presidential election in 2015.
Lagos PDP reacts
Reacting to the meeting, the Lagos State PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, said even while he was not in a position to confirm the motive behind the meeting, he nevertheless affirmed that the party in the state would not be deterred in its resolve to claim the state come 2015.
Gani said: “PDP is not a party of vendetta as far as we are concerned. I am not in a position to confirm the motive behind the meeting, but I know that there are other national pressing issues. For instance, the issue of Boko Haram warrants everybody to join hands to fight. I remember recently that the former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said something on that and so the President must have come to meet him to see whether he has any position on that.”
While appealing to the president to tread with caution, he said: “It is a risky position if the president has come to see Tinubu regarding 2015. The President may have met a liability rather than an asset in the forthcoming election. The truth is that the Lagos PDP is better positioned that we do not need anybody outside the party to win elections.
“However, the Lagos PDP expects that whatever lobbying any member of the party is involved in will not override the interest of the party. In Lagos PDP, it is our interest to claim Lagos State from ACN and so, we will not compromise and jeopardize that interest.”
It would be recalled that the president had, recently, told an Abuja High Court that the provisions of the 1999 constitution pertaining to his chances to contest the 2015 election were clear.

Granted, a lot of questions remain unanswered but that is not enough reason for us to let our imaginations run wild in this. Nobody is making anything up. This is The-same thing the PDP is saying to AZAZI. The group was founded by Mohammed Yusuf in 2002 in the city of Maiduguri with the aim of establishing a Shari'a government in Borno State under former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff. |

That PDP is reason why the Northerners voted in favour of sharia in the early 2000's? And since Jonathan Goodluck is a PDP President, he is also using Boko Haram to maintain his grip on power?

greenhouse2012: The Boko Haram theory Boko Haram, at the time of formation was a potentially dangerous group. As it gained popularity, the PDP realized it could be instrumental to its political success in some parts of the north.Boko Haram was used in the 2007 elections and were given certain promises by the Yar'adua Government. In 2009, there was a crackdown against boko haram as a result of the growing tension between them and the PDP government.Yusuf(the leader of Boko haram) and his men were going to spill the secret due to the non-fulfilment of the promises made to them by PDP. This was not allowed to happen as Yusuf and his men were summarilly executed following orders from president Yar'adua..At this point the weakened Boko haram was forced into hibernation. President Yar'adua died in May 2010. According to PDP arrangement, the north still had a few years to rule the country before it gets to the turn of other regions. This causes a division in the party, and Jonathan who was Yar'adua's vice president, a man from the South South region was favoured by some party top-shots including former President Obasanjo. Jonathan becomes president and now an aggrieved group of Northern elders will seek a revenge. They will require the services of a betrayed friend of the PDP.Boko Haram quickly comes to mind.Suddenly, the near extinct Boko Haram is resuscitated, becomes well funded and equiped. But what would be its aim? What would it fight for. It would avenge the killing of its leader and members by attacking the security forces and christians responsible. This is to hide the intentions of those really behind the uprising. The NSA and his boss know about this. They know who is behind all these and having held secret talks with them, they agreed all this will end by June. And so the unperturbed president could boldly make this proclamation in far away Korea.
This is my Boko Haram Theory. Pass it on if it makes sense to you. Anonymous. |

all4naija: What's the truth in his comment? That GEJ is behind the Boko Haram for poor handling of security issues? Please, provide me with more insight about this man's comment. What are you talking about. This is AZAZI's comment below “PDP got it wrong from the beginning, from the on-set by saying Mr A can rule, Mr A cannot rule ……according to PDP’s convention, rules and regulation and not according to the constitution and that created the climate for what has manifest itself, this way.”
He added that there is some level of political undertone to the problem.
He also noted that the bombings, suicide attacks and jail breaks that have been raging the northern part of the country “could be traced to the politics of exclusion of the PDP in the region.”
Blaming the notion of anointing candidates and the ‘do or die’ attitude of the political party, Retired General Azazi asked why “is it possible that somebody was thinking that only Mr. A could win, and that if he could not win, there would be problems in this society?” |

all4naija: Thank you for the correction. Well, that doesn't change the fact that the problem should be his if he failed to convinced his boss on how to get rid of the incessant bombings. Still,if I am the president I would fire him because he could not be trusted on the entrusted position of national security adviser. I would rather have somebody I can trust than have a betrayal supporting the position of the North, those who are bent on making this regime ungovernable rather goes to war at this point. Dumb, Where in Azazi's comment did he support the North. This is the problem with Nigeria, YOU PEOPLE JUST LOVE LIES AND SYCOPHANTS.If GEJ fires Azazi for saying the truth then he should employ ASARI-DOKUBU as NSA. |

its not easy to be a nigerian president. those who know how politics is played know that the president is not finding it easy.come to think of it. do you think the president like all that is happening? do you think he never meant well for the country? can he just go on a killing spree eliminating all his enemies? Mr Presidents enemies are just too much and so many of them on nairaland, facebook and other media. i just wonder why this man is so hated for no reason. the way nigeria politics is fashioned some people can not just be arrested just like that. imagine Fashola arresting tununbu; it can not happen. or Ngige arresting chris uba. thats nigeria for you. Mr president needs our support now more than ever. he is even overwhelmed by all this insecurities; but like any other Nigerian he'd just keep hope alive. no one can be trusted anymore not even the vice president.Yes i mean the VP sambo. but it will be foolish for the president to go accusing poeple. all the security apparatus of the state has been infiltrated to a helpless degree. its really unfortunate that an administration with such sovereignty will be marred like this. anyway, those who started this dance should not complain when the dance can no longer end. those who made the country ungovernable for Mr president. should also know that the country will also be made ungovernable for them IF they get there. This is what i hate about you sycophants. You blame everybody except the Head(GEJ). |

No wonder everything in Nigeria is going down the hill even the army is filled with those who should not wear a green khaki for game hunting.
Why did PDP not create Boko Haram or its equivalent in southern Nigeria? Boko Haram is a product of Islamic religion and political collusion as well as destructive and foolish thoughts of moronic individuals who assumed Nigeria was/is erected for them to rule. Dude, Azazi is one of Nigeria's most decorated Military officer, with global recognition. Every top security personnel knows this fact, but only Azazi got the courage to speak out.

He affirmed the level of sophistication of the group but also gave assurance that the government is aware of all their doings in a bid to addressing the issue. “I can assure you that Boko Haram can garner that level of sophistication over time, if it has not got it already. There are a lot we know that they are doing, and there are a lot that could be done to address the problem.” “But, then I must also be quick to point out that today, even if all the leaders that we know in Boko Haram are arrested, I don’t think the problem would end, because there are tentacles. I don’t think that people would be satisfied, because the situations that created the problems are not just about the religion, poverty or the desire to rule Nigeria. I think it’s a combination of everything. Except you address all those things comprehensively, it would not work” he added. |

Johndoe100: Sometimes I really wonder at the way people on this board think. Womanizing and being a serial womanizer is SOP (standard operating procedure) in Nigeria. Most women have come to understand that as long as the man takes care of his home and family they have nothing really to complain about. This woman is talking crap because the man has girlfriends? What if he decides to marry one? Can she or the fools who live in Australia and timbucto egging her on stop him? If she wants to leave let her, what is her fate going to be? She will end up the mistress to someone else's husband in a year or so when she wants to have sex. Women who come on here to complain of this are really the foolish ones. The wise ones have come to terms with the reality of life in Nigeria. I mean if you are not insane like the internet Nigerian fools who come here to escape their miserable lives, would you be complaining about girlfriend in a country where men can legally marry multiple wives? To the OP, please divorce your husband and free him from your trouble. Nothing spoil. He has already told you that you can go, you must really be a liability. Its her her life o o . The irony is that her hubby doesn't care if she leaves. All this one-sided NL story are difficult to judge. |

werepeLeri: LOL.
So many funny people in here.
@Lightheart - you are right - I am still in Year 1 studying Surveying. Effing Rookie - whats your own? Effing eediot? What do you know? My parents are already proud of me- worry about yourself. People like you are so daft to use words that only describe yourself.
Poster. - There is no battle to fight. Your use of words in the article says it all - you have a grouse with Surveyors, Quack, Fake or Registered. You portrayed Surveyors - Fake, Quack or Registered - you portrayed them all as scammers.
So if a Surveyor comes to you - or you go to one- you will be asking him for his credentials? That's what you want your readers to do - is that how people ask for your credentials before they engage you in your legal practice? Yes, there are Quack Surveyors, the profession knows about them, but then, how do you define a quack? Because he hasnt stepped a University? So he is a scammer because he is not registered? Or because he is an OND/HND graduate who is not registered yet - automatically, by your "expose" - you should not deal with him? LOL
If a Surveyor is resides in Lagos and has an office in Ogun - it is allowed, if "quacks" do the work in Ogun and take to him to sign - there is nothing wrong with that.
What is the meaning of the statement below?
""""most of them have the software of Coordinates of the whole Lagos on their computers and they do the mapping there, they will just compare the coordinates with the ones on their system and forget that since it’s a software, its being upgraded everyday. """" I never know Softwares get upgraded "daily"
For those who has the brain enough to think - NOT EVERY "QUACK" SURVEYOR OUT THERE IS OUT TO SCAM YOU. NOT EVERY SO CALLED QUACK SURVEYOR HAS THE CHARACTERISTICS AS DESCRIBED. You are a criminal. So quacks are allowed to do the job and sent to Pros to sign. |
