backbencher: And once they do that they should sell at a price higher than the market rate so that they can make a profit, not the one where they buy at N282, sell at N162 and pay a subsidy that does not cover the difference
That's where you and I disagree on. I guess we can leave it there. Cheap fuel is not realistic. you come across as someone with no BILLS YET cos this right there is shallow, no offence! |
Politics › Re: Modular Refineries Can’t Refine Fuel Due To Price Regulation – NNPC by erico2k2(m): 3:54pm On Mar 05, 2022 |
backbencher: .
The problem is, government is not allowing the local refinery operate at a profit, by insisting that the price of fuel at the pump must be below the production price...and even buying it from Niger means we sell at a loss of N150 or thereabouts...which the subsidy paid cannot cover.(We buy at N350 from Niger and sell at N162 at the pump and pay subsidy to cover the loss. Does not make sense)
I think we agree there should be local refineries, where we disagree is the price they should sell at.
Yes, by removing subsidy.
Well, if you check their company (the chinese company involved)'s website they are a crude oil producer, and they meet their refinery needs from their domestic crude. The following quote comes from the Wikipedia page on PETROLEUM INDUSTRY IN NIGER
They have an oilfiled...Agadem.
No imports.
I think we agree 100% on that, where we disagree is how we should support them. For me it means letting them operate at a profit, even if it means we all pay above N300 or more at the pump. I think you should pay attention to subsidy 101 |
Politics › Re: Modular Refineries Can’t Refine Fuel Due To Price Regulation – NNPC by erico2k2(m): 3:53pm On Mar 05, 2022 |
backbencher: The point of the report is that subsidises , which is part of the 'regulated price' system, won't let the refineries operate at a profit. Sorry thats is Daft on the part of the reporter cos if the subsidy was paid to the local refineries, they can function till such time where the subsidy is refused. There should have been no talk of subsidy not being paid sited as the reason the local refineries cant work Rather NNPC is sitting on it to make sure they dont work |
Politics › Re: Modular Refineries Can’t Refine Fuel Due To Price Regulation – NNPC by erico2k2(m): 2:29pm On Mar 05, 2022 |
backbencher: What the NNPC boss is saying is simple.
Modular refineries can only work when government allows petrol to be sold at market price, otherwise they won't make enough of a profit to function well otherwise. why cant the FG pay the subsidy to the modular refineries so they can function. at least we know where our petrol is coming from and the volume can be checked. Answer, fraud wil be reduced so they dnt like this. |

kuntash: Which points to the insensitivity of those in customs shouting ITS DEVOID OF HUMAN INTERFERENCE as if the database where the figures are sources wasn't inputed by humans ...
What baffles me in all these is that the CBN or customs do not seem to put into consideration lots of factors as SALVAGE brands and the cost of repairs for imported vehicles..
Based on the artificial intelligence they are noising about , we all know computer is garbage in garbage out .... The system interprets what it's directed to search , they should not assume everyone is stupid in this reagrd
If you input your VIN on Google and add valuation to it especially for cars 2004 up, you are likely to see results of ACV (actual cash value) and ERC (estimated repair cost) .. why is the artificial intelligence not queried to do such computations ?
A clean title vehicle is what seem to be considered by their systems whereas over 80% of vehicles imported to Nigeria are salvage ..
If it's uniformity and elimination of fraud they seek , they should make the valuation rates open enough for the public to know ,,as a matter of fact they know how to sanitize it , I think the are heading to the right direction however this whole broh haha, has failed to mention one group of persons ahah the Clearing agents, this is taking food from their mouth, so I was wondering if they are behind this so called protest or shoting down lagos. If one buys a salage car, Im hoping this costing system bills the duty as that of a salvage car rather of a clean tittle. |
Business › Re: VIN Crisis: Importers Threaten To Shutdown Lagos Markets by erico2k2(m): 10:20am On Mar 04, 2022 |
aieromon: Valuation will be based on the auction value of the vehicle. Now the issue is this: a clean title might cost $4,000 while one with a flooded title will cost way less. With the automated valuation, both titles will be assessed using the same parameter regardless of the final auction price. You can not get a true valuation from Auction's final price as AI would not see below the hood. However there is an initial valuation of all cars b4 Auction, that's the Blue Book.Im a 100% sure this is what they will go with and its usually higher than final auction price. |
Business › Re: VIN Crisis: Importers Threaten To Shutdown Lagos Markets by erico2k2(m): 9:15am On Mar 04, 2022 |
aieromon: It is supposed to make the system more transparent.
The service is trying to eliminate under-declaration of vehicle value by dubious agents and compromised/ignorant valuation officers.
Using the Hyundai Elantra as an example, each model is manufactured within a 5/7 year period. During that period, there might be cosmetic changes but the platform remains the same. The 2006-2010 models share the same chassis. A clearing agent might import a 2010 Elantra yet fraudulently declare the vehicle with a valuation of the 2006 model. The valuation officer might know the difference but connive with the agent to under-calculate the customs duty.
With the new automated VIN valuation, human interference is bypassed, loophole is blocked and the correct assessment can be made. I actually believe in all honesty the cry is more from the tieving and bent custom agents than the Importers! |

So, my 7 year old child recently had his British passport mailed to him in Nigeria. He now has a flight to UK coming up.
My question is, will he be allowed to board as he doesn't possess a Nigerian passport? Please, note that I paid the airline for chaperone service. I would really appreciate answers from immigration guys or frequent travellers.
Thanks all. yes I dnt see anything wrong with this |

SmartPolician: The government subsidizes it that's why it is cheap. Despite not being a rich country, the Nigerian government subsidizes PMS, education, electricity, housing, etc. There is nothing wrong in subsidy, its the greed and dishonesty in subsidy that is the problem. The west subsidise virtually everything for their citizen from housing, to food to healthcare to fuel and even Education. |

Nonpartisan1: Just look at how empty a morning flight is. 50k! 100% increase in air ticket.
When I said the Airlines would suffer especially Green Africa, United Nigeria, aero contractors etc, if they went ahead to follow the bigger players in this price harmonization, people were attacking me..
Now see this if this system continue for one month, nobody will ask them to review the price, power of demand and supply will take effect |

UK Unions Don't strike until there’s no choice so let’s see what happens. In Nigeria There’s no need to murder each other to gain more let people leave if they want to albeit for a small fee and leave them alone.
A lot of people talk about NURTW but over the years they’ve organized themselves well in terms of uniform and organization not as rowdy as before. Funny enough you are right about NURTW, they have really re arranged themselves and changed the narrative. even better than NUT and ASSU. Th teaching Unions in Nigeria re just there for rthier own pocket, once they receive back hander game over. |

Dialogue is needed and work conditions need to be addressed I have gone to Nipost management for this same reason how people work affects how they perform at work how they are paid as well as the delay affects all. Unions are not about making only person rich it’s so that you are not mistreated in the name of employment. The Unions in Nigeria don't give a shyte about its workers, all they do is collect monthly payments from members who by the way aRE NOT GIVEN ANY CHOICE THAN TO JOIN. If PEOPLE ARE GIOVEN CHOICES TO OR NOT TO JOIN unions 80% OF THEM WONT BE PART OF SAID unions. At my place of work Im not a member of the Union there, those who are have to pay £15 monthly 2wards it direct debit. |
