Car Talk › Re: 3 Essential Basis To Keep A Map In Your Car by erico2k2(m): 8:53pm On Apr 16, 2019
Godspower35:
A road map is a map that essentially displays roads and transport links, not natural geographic information. This is a type of navigation map, which usually includes political boundaries and labels, which also makes it a type of political map. In addition to roads and borders, road maps often include attractions such as large businesses or buildings, tourist sites, parks and entertainment venues, hotels and restaurants, as well as airports and train stations. A road map can also document car-free transit routes, even though they are often only shown on transit cards.

Follow the tips below in-order to understand the reasons for a road map:

1.
Maps allow you to better plan your route.

When you go on a long trip, it’s a good idea to get an idea of the route you choose before you leave. Do not go through landmarks, waterways
or important cities that you cross to find out what you are going through. It is also vital to know on which sections of the road there are recreation areas or restaurants to relax in the bathroom and eat. Maps are ideal for planning, and to get an idea of what to expect during a trip, GPS devices are not so easy to read this way.

GPS in your car or on your phone will show you only a small segment of the route. This will save you from previous knowledge of cities, mountains, ponds, etc., which you can easily recognize from a regular roadmap. How often are we completely taken aback by our GPS simply because we are listening and driving, and not paying attention to the environment? Suddenly, a wildlife sanctuary, which you may have wanted to avoid or do not want to avoid, comes from nowhere.

2.
Maps never lose service.

If you use a navigation application for a smartphone, you risk losing the signal. You depend on your ability to receive cellular services wherever you are, which is not always the case! And, of course, the places where you could lose the GPS satellite signal would be in more distant places where you probably do not know where you are going. If you are thinking of not using cellular communication, you must have a road map at hand. It is therefore best to be careful and keep it in your glove box.

3.
Maps cannot be discharged.

If there is one thing that we are sure of is that electronic devices, such as GPS systems and mobile phones, tend to fail at the worst possible times. Out of nowhere, the battery will die or the screen will freeze. And if you do not have a car charger for your phone or GPS, you really are not lucky!

Now we are not talking to remove your GPS, we only rely on maps. But if you want to be sure to get to your destination as quickly and safely as possible, it is important to be prepared. And this training should include putting the right card in your glove box.

Y'all always leave the facts and hang on to sentiments. Hopefully, you have used both flights severally to be able to say this.
Yes, I have used both, I find the Germans more accurate in timing and easy to transit, France you got to get on their trains to a next terminal, and no one tells you anything, very rude and arrogant set of people, they seem to think everyone black is an asylum seeker by default. They started this search on Tarmac at the PHC Airport when I challenged their security his answers was taking the pissssss,I took pictures and sent it to thier HQ still waiting for reply.

Am not just talking of changing oil in car, u don't just generalize engineers, there is wat we call specialization. if my car is faulty I don't just pick up spanner to start repairing because I am an engineer, when the fault is not even an electrical fault.
I never said fault, I made mention of service.I said are you telling me you as an Elect Eng cannot change the OIl and Oil filter i n your carhuh?
SO IF i THROW YOU A TORQUE WRENCH YOU won't EVEN KNOW HOW TO SET ONE.
Engineering is more than Education, it should be a passion, what I'm trying to say is this, you should even hand on B4 venturing into Engineering if not you are going to be a book Engineer.I can do basic wiring in my house and my car and in most machinery I work with, when it comes to those that need certification as per guarantee, I leave them ones to the pro.

8.1/10 IMDb rating while GoT is 9.5, same with Breaking Bad. I can mention series that rate more than ITB
My knowledge in movies? It's yours that we should be worried about. You're trying to talk about series on GoT level and you're mentioning Spartacus and Into the Badlands? grin

Go and watch Vikings, Breaking Bad, Narcos, etc and come back and debate.

AMC's goal for "Into the Badlands" was twofold: produce a compelling character drama, and introduce the highest caliber of martial arts filmmaking to a weekly, ongoing series.
If you know what a good plot is, you won't be arguing in such a blind manner.
I won't be surprised if you rate the flash above GoT.

Modified: Go and watch Westworld
Vikings is good but GOT just Edged it a wee bit, some people like Vikings cos they like bloodshed some like GOT cos of sex and nude

I am sure it won’t be worth the hype as I’ll have an overly wide expectation of it, I don’t want to be disappointed biko.

1st off, its a film it's not reality so if you expect it to be true then you should stop watching films altogether, however the description of what the film is all about gives a glimpse of what to expect, so the talk of hype beats my imagination. its a type of film and it is one of the best in its type and class.

Before you all celebrate. Be aware that its much more expensive to fly from PHC than from Lagos. You can confirm from Air France flights. Almost 150-200k difference in some cases.

So bad that air France has promised to close the route in couple of weeks as people are still flying to Lagos on local flights to take the air France flight, hence the flight is hardly full despite being combined with Abuja.
Nop wrong, its cos Air France is craaap compared to Lufthansa who flies daily from PH to the UK via Germany. They even fly Christmas day

Look at u, Mr literate. What does it mean to recommend. If u are taking a drugs for example, a person of urs will either ask, was it recommended or prescribed. Bottom-line, they are interchangeable words. So, where are u heading at sir, the most educated. After all, we are on d same page except from the fact that, the use of medicated lenses is not a terminology used in optical field. But I will understand the message when u use them. Bye sir.
Stop talking out of ur backside, Doctors prescribe they do not recommend medicine or treatment rather dosage, When you are sick you go to the doctor, he examines you and writes down the medicine you need, that piece of paper is called Prescription and also write on it the recommended dosage. Problem with you lot is you act ITK and refuse to learn. No one knows everything I'm very sure there are billions of things you know that I don't, however, this is not one of them
The correct word is prescription, the recommendation is a term way different and not used in Prescription rather how to use a prescription.

Bro, for every passenger boarding a flight to the US, their passport and visas are scanned . Once scanned, this information is transmitted to the US before the flight departure. An already cancelled visa will be flagged on the manifest and and the airline will have to remove the passenger prior to departure. This is more than likely the reason for their removal than all other possible reasons. The US embassy has cancelled so many visas lately. Even my US passport is scanned and transmitted before departure.
Erm I thought that was what I said though, that the decision to remove the passager is that of the US Immigration rather than the Airline. So the Op is meant to ask the US immigration why

Their visas were probably already canceled prior to today but the Airline didn't catch this until after the passengers were seated. The embassy excuse was just a face saving excuse. Many many people are having the US visas canceled after they have been approved and issued the visas.
I can imagine the disappointment for the whole family. Life goes on.
The airline has nothing to do with VISA rather immigration of the countries involved do, in this case, that would be the NIS.

I am an Engineer. I studied in Nigeria as well. What I realize is that Nigerians don't like using their brains to think technically.

If you check well, even Nigerians who studied Engineering abroad are the same as the ones who studied at home. They either become musicians or entrepreneurs. I believe we are being taught the same thing as the whites.

For instance, we were all taught acceleration due to gravity right from secondary school, laws of motion, we solved countless number of equations on bearings, did a lot of map readings, learnt about weightlessness , streamlining, etc. plus every single thing learned in higher institution. My brother, what more do you need to learn in order to manufacture an air plane?

Air plane is even too much. Take washing machine as another example. Science students were taught circular motions in rev/min, you know the function of timed circuits and their principle of operations, sensors etc. Do you know that the white guy combined this knowledge to design this machine?

Nigerians would rather wait for you to come and announce that the topic for today is how to manufacture an aeroplane...
I agree with you 110%
Imagine a whole Engineer in Nigeria will take their car for Oil and filter change when it is not mandatory to do so like in the west, Some cannot even set a torque wrench as we speak
Education › Re: Is Studying Engineering In Nigeria A Scam? by erico2k2(m): 9:04pm On Apr 14, 2019
Dothraki:
Engineering undergraduates study old theories from Way past generation, that is of little relevance to modern engineering. The university system teach so many calculation, and almost nothing on how to apply these mathematics to solve real life problems.

Many of theories learned aren't useless jargon, since we arent taught how to praticalise most of those knowledge, 99.99% of all engineering graduate would have forgotten what they learned by the time they graduate.
We only remember what is useful to us, what help us get through, or things we do constantly. Everything else, our brain trashes it.

Its quiet disturbing Most of the engineering student only read to pass. Which makes one question, are we in school only to pass some paper? If so, modern technology would not have existed at all.
Our primary purpose of studying engineering is to apply scientific discoveries to solve practical problems in the society. But unfortunately the system only made us to study only for grade.
Without practicing what we learn our brain will eventually discard everything as useless

An average engineering graduate does not remember 90% of what he learned in five years, I tried to go through some of my jottings from 300l, i was suprised because it all seem strange to me.. i couldn't remember a thing from the calculations l did with my own hand. A friend of my who have have a very much good grade have the same experience.

Apart from the abstractions of studying engineering in nigeria, most of the curriculum is old, we spent so much time studying theories that should be thought as a mere history. No wonder there havent been any groundbreaking engineering achievement from Nigerian universities

Majority of the engineering jobs that involve applying engineering maneuver will be given to foreigners. Innoson motor employs foreigners to do All of its engineering design, our Nigerian graduate work as if they are
mere technician. Engineering graduate will never apply most of the theories they learn at school. lot of our graduate who are lucky to find job in engineering companies work as a maintenance engineer. Whenever they need new designs or innovation, they hire foreigners to do the job, this is quite sad in my opinion. They have made mockery of 5 years of lifes. Quite sad
for a person who did mechanical Engineering in Nigeria and also in the UK my take
some of us do not really know what it takes to be an Engineer, it is way more than Education. You have to get specific skills b4 taking the Engineering course. Let me elaborate
O know some of my mates then in the same class who do not know when to use a socket or a flat spanner, some can't even change a car's spare tyre.
Some just study Engineering for the name with no passion.
If you look closely the said theories are what is used in the west as we speak,
DO you remember the Archimedes principles? I use it still at work as I'm a fluid Engineer who maintains anything powered by hydraulics from doors to cranes. The laws of gravity is used every day, motion n friction etc are still used, what theory or Law do you think has expired?
for you to be an Engineer, you need to be technical, passionate and practical, you got to look beyond being employed and be your own boss, if you don't have start-up capital then that should be what you are working towards at any capacity.
As an Engineer, you should always seek to solve today's problem with Engineering.
You can learn more outside of University ie, there are loads of places you can volunteer to work for free and gain skills and knowledge.

NairaMedia:
Operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, have apprehended a seven-member notorious kidnapping gang that killed an American Soldier in Okigwe area of Imo State in 2017.

The deceased, a Nigerian who was serving in the US army and identified as Chuks Okebata, was holidaying in Okigwe when he was abducted and killed. Read initial story here.

The suspects, Sunday Igwe, alias School Boy, Michael Ahmefula, Oyebuchi Echefule, Ndubusi Isaac, Victor Dagogo, Chima Okoro and John Edet were arrested last week.

In their confessional statement to the police, the suspects admitted being members of a deadly armed robbery and kidnapping gang terrorizing Imo, Abia and Rivers States. Their leader, School-Boy, said that they never knew that the deceased was an American soldier and that they never planned to kill him.

“He tried to disarm me and in the process was killed. If we had not killed him, he would have killed us. He is strong with tough muscles and the only way to save our lives was to kill him.

We bundled him into the boot of our operational vehicle after he was kidnapped. We didn’t know who he was. While we were heading to our camp where we hope to keep him until ransom is paid. He pulled out his gun and started shooting at us from the boot and the bullet hit me on the leg and the driver on his hand.

Realizing the danger I asked our driver to stop the vehicle. As soon as the vehicle came to a halt we disarmed him. He was killed right there on the spot. We dumped his body inside a gutter and left. I want everyone to understand that I have no intention of killing him but he forced us into doing it,” he stated.
