Guy, you made sense die. I once made this suggestion and one myopic urchin took a swipe at me. With one billion naira, you can set up a good modular refinery but the federal government knows what they're doing by limiting licences on modular refineries. There are people who can also pool funds together to achieve this.

Let me shock you. We went for a project somewhere in the Niger delta some years back. You'd have to get to that village via a canoe. No fuel close by. We depended on the diesel sold by these illegal refineries for 3 months to power our generator. You know what? It was as quality as the one we bought and loaded inside our canoe the first time from a major fuel station in a nearby town. I now asked myself, how much does it really cost to build a good refinery?

Why not regulate, encourage them by providing loan to upgrade instead of destroying them in order to have your way on your illegal bunkering business? All of them can specialise in a particular product...like pms only, AGO only, DPK only, etc with strict monitoring to ensure compliance on quality. Na wah oo

Unlike private housekeeping, corporate and sovereign finance has a concept of economic capital at risk. Economic capital at risk is money that is in motion - actively been used to generate change; whether that change is financial or social.

An end state balance is meaningless because it does not show the quality of the decisions taken by the governor. It also does not show what impact the governors decisions have made on the citizen. He could have well been passively saving large amounts from his statutory allocation.

If Nigeria has a foreign reserve of say $100 bn ( we've never had up to $60bn in recent times) now imagine there are still infrastructural deficits, unemployment and low levels of productivity. The common man would be entitled to ask " Na dat one I go chop"

In OBJ's time, Nigeria sold an average of 2 million barrels daily( OPEC quota), During the same period because the capacity of extracting crude oil was very effective, Nigeria also sold excess crude oil to the tune of sometimes extra 2 million barrels( that is where the name ECA came from) excess crude oil account, that was where OBJ saved about 65 billion dollars for Nigeria that Jonathan came and depleted to about 3 billion dollars then Buhari has depleted it to about 36 thousand dollars.

Now OPEC quota to Nigeria is 1.8 million barrels and Buhari has been selling 1.2 million barrels and has never met the 1.8 million barrels throughout his tenure, now ask yourself what happened to the remaining over 600 thousand barrels plus the excess crude oil production capacity Nigeria has, they will tell you the facility is not functioning well, but it's a big lie, it is been stolen, that is why they are still uncovering lots of pipelines stealing crude oil into vessels, so for the past 8 years or more Nigeria has not earned anything from the sales of excess crude oil and has not met it's OPEC quota because some people are stealing crude oil notoriously and people wonder why Nigeria is broke.

Also to note that during OBJ's time crude oil sold at $17.9 in 1999 and the highest being $72.52 in 2007 and he was able to save from the Excess crude oil sales alone 65 billion dollars compared to Jonathan and Buhari that sold at $107 in 2011 and an all-time high of $109.45 in 2012 as well as $105.87 in 2013. It fell to $96.29 in 2014, $34.55 in 2015 and $123.70 in 2022 and didn't save anything instead they were eating from what OBJ saved from the 65 billion dollars down to 36 thousand dollars and still borrowing money from China and world bank

The 600m IGR people are talking about...Tinubu isn't expected to govern without contributing his quota as governor. Government is a continuum they say. I bought an SUV in 2014, brand new from US. On arrival I was driving it around Ikeja. One police man accosted me, saying I was too young to drive that type of a car and I asked him, what's the minimum age for owning an SUV? He got angry. He delayed me that day. You're very correct. I serve in the Oil and Gas till today. There was a guy, half Dutch and half black. He bagged CCIE, which was the peak of IT in the world as of then. The CCIE is lab-based and he happened to be one of the few across the globe who had it then, nobody from or in Nigeria had it then. He was employed by NLNG at Bonny. This guy's salary was about 7m naira monthly about 6 years ago, excluding other benefits. Today with the current exchange rate, he should be earning up to 10m naira. Flight to anywhere in the world was free. Free education for his children, of course accommodation was free, feeding at NLNG was buffet, still that way today. I was like, na which kain inequality be dis .

I quickly told my cousin to go for the CCIE cos that was what's left for him. He's a silent member on nairaland and am sure he'd be smiling reading this post.
