ikorodureporta: if we don't produce at high quality, & cheap price, it's just a wasteful effort, because ppl will eat d smuggled ones..
talking about forex, don't they pay impprt duties? Now, they are creating more room for smuggling. You buy it less than N10k outside the country & sell close to N30k
Let's see how long this will take, 'cos there's no way you can stop foreign products which you don't have in sufficient As we speak, Nigerian companies are producing processed rice of high quality. All we need now is more investment to increase production capacity. Most of the people that are importing foreign rice source their forex within Nigeria. They then go and import containers of rice to Cotonu (because Nigeria doesn't allow importation of rice), they pay import duties to Benin republic and then smuggle the rice into Nigeria. This kinds of practice will not allow our local industry to survive. |

favour32: This government policies do not favour the average Nigerians. A bag of rice is more than 20K. Rice farming/production in Nigeria is lower than the demand for it and would always be expensive. For now, WE ARE NOT self sufficient in rice farming/production. Nobody told us we are SELF SUFFICIENT in cassava and yam farming because those crops do well in Nigeria than most places in the world. Rice productions do well in Thailand,China etc more than in Nigeria. So,what happened to comparative advantage?
Nigeria needs long term economic planning for the future. Not this type that adversely affect the masses. We do not forget that Nigeria is the headquarters of poverty in the world. Therefore, most people cannot afford the basic needs of life. This government offers more pains than any other previous governments with poor economic planning. .The policy of banning importation of rice into the country will definitely cause the commodity to be scarce and more expensive at the beginning. But this is exactly the kind of conditions that will encourage massive investment into rice processing. With time we would see a stabilization of the price along with sufficiency. |

ikorodureporta: Still nonsense if a bag is more than 10k. Countries focus of products with comparative advantage. we used to buy rice less than N10k, & now more than N20k...why not focus on products like oil palm. This govt's insensitive & clueless
They saw how congested the ports were in Lagos & still shut d land borders Do you know how much forex is lost daily as a result of rice importation? Do you know how many jobs can be created as a result of boosting our local rice processing capacity? The policy of banning importation of rice into the country will definitely cause the commodity to be scarce and more expensive at the beginning. But this is exactly the kind of conditions that will encourage massive investment into rice processing. With time we would see a stabilization of the price along with sufficiency. |

What is the problem with these wailers set. You submitted your briefs to the supreme court long ago so that they can study the judgement of the PEPT. Thereafter both parties made an oral submission on Oct 30 before the Judges gave judgement.
Were you guys not expecting the panel to study the PEPT before? Or maybe you wanted them to study it in your presence, in court.
I don't know if any law mandates the CJN to publicize the names of the Judges he has appointed to a panel as soon as he appoints them. Especially when doing so will put the Judges under undue pressure.
Let's wait for the Supreme Court to release the full Judgement/reasons first before we criticize. |

gwafaeziokwu: I hope the iron gate in your compound came in completed knocked down parts you reassembled before mounting. You have so much bought into your feeling of inferiority complex that you believe vehicle manufacturing is an impossible task for a Nigerian.
Did you build your own toy cars from empty milk tins like we all did as kids. Have you ever task your brain to produce anything. I don't know why it sounds unbelievable to you that innoson locally manufactured 70% of his car components while wholly or partially sourcing the remaining 30% outside Nigeria, because it makes a lot of sense to me. His fathers manufactured Ogbunigwe, Ojukwu bucket, armoured vehicles and even refined their own diesels as early as 1960s.
Aba's manufacturing prowess is a common knowledge in Nigeria. Igbo made has been used since time immemorial to deride the Igbo man's penchant to create. What exactly is your problem? You are talking absolute rubbish. Let's leave sentiments and face facts. The engines, transmission, body parts, electronics, upholstery, suspension etc are all brought in from the Chinese manufacturer and assembled. What is wrong with that? |
Car Talk › Re: Aerial View Of Innoson Industrial Complex Nnewi, Anambra State (Photos) by Eteka1(m): 10:43am On Nov 01, 2019 |
Rochasstatue: Innoson and indeed Nigeria can't move forward as long as we continue to have zero local content in car assembly. Everything used in assembling those vehicles are imported from China.
That's why the prices aren't competitive and that's why they depend solely on government patronage. The vehicles are manufactured in China and brought in as Completely Knocked Down (CKD), Innoson assembles them on his badge. |

The case had no merit (even in the eyes of a layman). What exactly were you expecting the Supreme Court to crack their heads over? That Buhari doesn't have educational qualifications, or that INEC transmitted results to an imaginary server? The speed with which a case is decided depends on the complexity of the issues raised.
Sentiments aside, the case didn't hold water.
As for the process of picking members of the panel, I think the discretion rests solely on the CJN. You wouldn't seriously expect him to appoint people he knows to have some kind of vested interest or the other in the case to serve as Judges on the same case. |

whatisthetruth: When will you take a stand against oil importation? You have oil, yet you have to take it outside Nigeria to be refined and then buy back the refined products.
When will you take a stand against weapon importation? Begging USA and Russia up and down.
When will you take a stand against importation of phones and laptops?
Everyone just talking about rice. We have to take it gradually; The government has for some time been giving grants, loans and general funding aimed at boosting local rice production capacities, before introducing this measure to stop importation of foreign rice. I believe the government will take a stand against importation of refined petroleum products as soon as the Dangote Refinery at Lekki Free Trade Zone with capacity to refine 650,000 BPD of Crude Oil is complete. The government provided some support for the project. Stopping the importation of certain types of military hardware like armoured personnel carriers is very close, cos Nigerian companies are beginning to manufacture them. We need to encourage more research and interest into local manufacturing of wepons , phones and laptops before we can start thinking of discouraging importation. |
