PoliticsRe: GUTA Locks Up Nigerians’ Shops In Kumasi by Eteka1(m): 9:05am On Oct 31, 2019

That's why I don't want to see this happen.I just narrated what GUTA wants to do and has in plans.I have many Nigerian friends and I don't wish for any trade wars. That's why our leaders always protects Nigerians in Ghana during these attacks.Kwame Nkrumah will even disown me if I call Nigerians my enemies. He spent all his life trying to unite Africa against the imperialist and I will not destroy his reputation cos Nkrumah a god in Ghana. We just want peace.Buh GUTA always hated you guys and your people in Ghana and now you people have given them the chance to start this xenophobia in Ghana and I can bet you that Ghanaians will now look on and will not even intervene again to defend Nigerians.Come and see them organising press conference to deal with Nigerians. Just this year, they started buh they were cooled off buh now due to your border closure which hardly affects Ghanaians, they are now campaigning for Ghana to ban anything Nigeria in Ghana. Our economy depends on Cocoa,Gold, tourism, timber and oil and any other thing is just minor and won't affect even 2% of the population. So tell your people to thread cautiously.
Nigeria has no issues with Ghana that I know of. Our issue is with the way Benin republic allows the shipment of contraband into Cotonu for onward smuggling into Nigeria.

If Ghana that was not even a target of the border closure wants to fight us, then we are ready, willing and able to retaliate with much greater effect.

but do you think these governments are doing this for the sake of the masses? Let's look at the corruptions of our leaders looting everyday and we think we are smart as a citizen while they keep enriching theirselves, you implement a policy to gather money for the country but what's the positive reflection of that money in the country and yet we keep borrowing, until the government can tackle corruptions without being partial and bias about it then I will fully support every good policy to move this nation forward until then We the masses are the one losing my brother
Yes there is rampant corruption in every facet of life in Nigeria, that doesn't therefore mean we should also allow our neighbours shortchange and undermine us.

Make we no start wetin we no fit handle, the white people will be so glad to see Africa tearing apart which will give ways to another unforeseen modern colonization, this government currently ruling Nigeria are to be blamed for decisions like this, you can't cut ties with other African countries when you have Ecowas tieing all Africans together, lots of Ghanians here today and likewise lots of Nigerians there in Ghana, these 2 countries has been so friendly with each other for long and any brouhaha like this will only cause serious havoc to both countries because we are so close to each other, when you fight your neighbor be ready for destruction when a far distance stranger attacks you, Africa needs to understand what brought all Africans together
(1) Is the closure of land borders targeted at Ghana?
(2) Is the government not supposed to take steps to curb illegal trade and smuggling which Benin republic is benefitting from?
(3) Is it so difficult for any genuine importer to use our seaports or airports until the embargo on land imports is lifted?
(4) Must Nigeria continue to allow its economy be affected negatively by unwholesome trade practices by neighbouring countries just so that they can be happy with us?

You have said it all, this government has no work able policy... I think Buhari have something against ghana and other Christian neighbouring countries.. I remember in 1983 when as part of austerity measure he ordered all Ghanaians to leave the country.
This did not solve our economic problems, rather it created more problems until the intervention of IBB...Forget about people shouting here, we are really suffering in this country due to the policies of this government. The same policy that did not work in 1983,how do we expect it to work now. angry angry angry
Wonders shall never end. Lucifer is now a Christian. Lol.

You Nigerians are very funny oo.I already told you that GUTA already hate you and had just gotten the perfect opportunity to get all Nigerian competitors and traders out from Ghana. Remember that Ghana is already 30 million people and has the second largest economy in West Africa and higher GDP per capita than Nigeria. There're more than 4 million Nigerians living and working in Ghana together with their families. Ghana doesn't really produce anything for exports into West Africa except some few alcoholic companies. Now if these millions of Nigerians living in Ghana are frustrated and forced out of Ghana, your same people will be shouting ECOWAS and xenophobia. Now let's see if any Nigerian will shout ECOWAS again. Just this year, just 400 Nigerian shops and businesses were locked in just one spare parts town in another city called Kumasi alone and you people were all over the place. You wannabe giants were mocking our leaders that they're begging you. For them they always want peace just like the South African leaders try to make peace buh we the people of Ghana don't want to see you Nigerians in our country and don't even care or heard of any border closure .F**k peace. That's the honest situation on the ground .Seriously I love my country Ghana more than myself." God Bless our Homeland Ghana, And Make Her Great And Strong ".I hate to see my fellow brothers and sisters from Nigeria insult my nation Ghana.
Even if you guys decide to expel all Nigerian nationals from Ghana it changes nothing. You can be sure that Nigeria has the ability to target Ghana with very painful counter measures.

Nigerians bring in a whole lot of money to the Ghanaian economy as tourists, students, businessmen etc, Ghana stands to loose more if they decide to pick a fight with Nigeria.

The Nigerians you see in Ghana can easily move elsewhere if it becomes necessary, as large numbers of Nigerians already can be found in all the countries of Africa (from South-Africa to Sao-Tome and Principe) and even Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East.

Dunlop Nigeria Plc and Michelin had relocated to Ghana. Patterson Zochonis (PZ) is also planning to relocate to Ghana, even as Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Unilever and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) this year, sacked sizeable number of their workers over reported high cost of production, decaying infrastructure.I will prefer to have my industry in an enabling environment where i can get access to my raw material at a cheaper rate through seaport. Togo doesnt have oil or gas they survive on importation to enable industries an access to their imported raw materials. U dont know aw economy work. Like what Sheik of UAE said Lets Build it first and they will surely come. What are we building? So u think Nigeria population is an asset to the industry, population dat 70% is surviving on less than a dollar per day. I rather go 4 20people with money than 10,000 with nothing.
So you thinl the Togolese have more money to spend than Nigerians? I will not argue with you any further cos its obvious you don't even know what it is you are saying.

Togo has GDP per capita of about $678.50 while Nigeria is $2396.30. Is there any basis for comparing the purchasing power of both countries? You people just continue displaying your ignorance with so much confidence.

Dunlop has done so before

Even Beverage producing companies. Aka Nestle had moved big operations to Ghana in preference to Nigeria before now
That was when they could easily manufacture in Ghana with a more stable power supply and bring the products back to Nigeria. Now with the difficulties in bringing those things in, companies would think twice.

So if u own ur industry in Lagos u d prefer to transport ur goods to Kano via air when the road is far cheaper. Better u move to Kano where u can reach a greater customer or location at a lower cost. Plus the cost of production will be cheaper in there. Industries are profit oriented, so if policy is endangering their market nothing stop them from relocating.
Your analogy doesn't apply here cos rather that move the factory to Ghana or Togo with a smaller market, the factory would remain in Nigeria to guarantee them access to a much bigger market than all the other small ones put together.

Lies, how can a serious manufacturer relocate from the major market to a small country without market just because of border closure? When the company can actually continue to export to those small markets by airport or sea port. Story doesn't make sense.

grandstar:
I am Nigerian.

There's so much empty bragging by some Nigerians but the problem is primary a poor understanding of economics. The guys bragging represent a small percentage though. Most Nigerians condemn the border closure except you're a rice farmer making obscene profits from Nigerians paying through the nose for their grain.

They fail to see that closing the borders primarily to stop the smuggling in of rice is counterproductive. Nigeria does not even have comparative advantage in rice production. A ban on its importation or high tariff walls is the wrong way to go. You're better off importing the things you lack comparative advantage in.

The president has a very poor understanding of economics. Worse, he refuses to listen to experts. All he has been doing since assuming power is to borrow to the heavens money to build projects here and there to stimulate the economy. This isn't working as some of his crude policies, such as the border closure has scared off foreign investments into the country.
You are totally wrong Sir. This is a great policy, not only for rice but for many other sectors e.g manufacturing.

Benin Republic is killing our economy with its unwholesome trade practices. The allow people to import anything possible into Cotonu, collect import duties and then look the other way while the contraband is smuggled back into Nigeria through numerous smuggling routes.

These contraband goods are detrimental to our economy and security cos even arms and ammunition are smuggled in.

Nigeria hasn't stopped to importation of goods from Ghana. If you can consider going to Dubai then why is it so difficult to use our airports or sea ports? It doesn't have to be by land only.

There is nothing wrong as long as the money belongs to Tinubu. He did not steal it and being the national leader of the party, he decided to use his money to mobilize his party members.
