Amandacanny:Done and dusted! |
Amandacanny:Sorry you had to go and call me out from the other room. Lol. Glad Mamaroon has done justice to your question. ![]() |
Mamaroon:@bolded, he will understand. Lol. Ok, for the sake of learning, we're told that "etre" is the auxiliary verb used with movement verbs in the passe compose construct of the indicative mode. This is true but another true thing is that there are other factors that could make a verb go with the auxiliary "etre" and not all movement verbs go with "etre". The general rule should be: 1) Movement verbs are conjugated with "etre". We all know this. Example: aller. 2) Verbs with reflexive pronoun (se) are conjugated with "etre" as this alters the meaning or direction of action. Example: s'apercevoir. NB: the verb "percuter" you mentioned actually goes with "avoir" and only takes "etre" when used with reflexive pronoun (i.e. se percuter - to ram into one another). I guess that is the construct you saw. Example: "les deux avions se sont percutes a l'aeroport". 3) In a case where a verb could be transitive (takes a direct object compliment) or intransitive (does not take a direct object compliment), the auxiliary verb "etre" is used when such a verb is used in the intransitive sense while "avoir" used with the transitive sense. Example: sortir. 4) Most intransitive verbs go with "etre". Example: naitre, deceder (as you pointed out ). But watch out, intransitive verbs that signify motion still go with "avoir". Example: marcher, courir, etc. This last part is a bit confusing and annoying cause we were meant to believe anything movement is "etre" in rule one. Lol. 5) Finally, know that there's no perfect rule or set of rules in linguistics. There'll always be exceptions. No site or textbook will give you a comprehensive list of verbs that go with "etre". This is because, sometimes, it's more about the meaning being portrayed by the verb (context) than the verb itself. So the books can only tell us how decipher which one to use to best send our intended message. We perfect the art as we advance and use the language more. |
Denerystormborn:Hi, My name is etrange. Your fears are really understandable. But what you can't change, you shouldn't worry about. And the ones you can change, you shouldn't worry about either. You just go ahead and change them. You can change your score by writing BCS and you are preparing for the exam so you're already on the right path. The whole idea is to do the best within your limit at all points. That's literally all you can do. As for the election, I can assure you nothing much will change. Remember the Conservatives introduced express entry themselves? The Liberals under the leadership of Trudeau only amended it slightly in 2015 and the amendment only affected those with arranged employment. These same Conservatives are the main contenders in the upcoming election and they are not coming back to change their own legacy. In fact, in a recent interview with their leader, their only concern with the current status of EE is the fact that the annual targets are baseless and not calculated as a result of traceable economic factors. The good news here is that the three major parties in Canada are pro immigration! So worry less and concentrate on your exam preparation. I'll be there to tease you about your fears when your ITA eventually comes. ![]() |

Kingosytex:Where's the sarcasm in his post? |
This is not feminism. She is not a feminist. This is in fact, the opposit. Let me quote myself here: etrange: |
OP, you are deliberately being mischievous and I know others like you would soon be here to celebrate that. First, she never said feminism is a scam but only used the story of a misled 55 year old to pilote her own message; the word "scam" is from the 55 year old lady. The Candace Owen is merely saying that the word "feminism" has been abused and a lot people - males and females alike - have a wrong understanding of what feminism really is. This, in fact, is the reality on ground. To some, feminism is about females being superior to males. This totally contradicts the true definition of the concept and such people are not any different from chauvinists. The opposit - no gender is superior to the other - is in fact the core of feminism. Another wrong conception of the concept is that women don't need men. This one is outrightly ridiculous. Women need men, simple. This is not even open to argument. What feminism says is that women need men just as much as men need woman. If you don't believe this, you're chauvinistic and not any different from the misled woman touting themselves as feminists. Feminism is about equality of both genders. Equality in opportunities, social recognition, etc. It does not, however, undermine the differences between these classes. Advocates of feminism posit that we can be different and equal. What we can both do, let's accept that we can both do it and let no one be denied the opportunity to try on bases of gender and social construct. Again, feminism is about equality. Any other thing asides this is scam. Thanks for reading! ![]() |
Intellectual201:Hahaha Bro, you actually sound more depressed. Ok, I'm kidding! Runs away |
Badonasty:So what? If you borrows or lies to impress, you'll still be the one to call her fake. Nawa o |
oyeb15:Yes, they are running the government together. That's what it's meant to be, a team. If he was meant to work independently, there wouldn't be any need to have a deputy. If he were always alone, you'd still be the one to say the deputy is just a figurehead. I can't help but say this, this your post is really dumb. |
Bellerin:She actually meant "... pour manger et pour se reposer.." I like paragraph 3! |
Mamaroon:Beautiful... you're gearing up for C1 already. I enjoyed the story. I'll just focuse on my area of interest, grammar. 0) Line 6: No need for "d'apres-midi". The time format already tells so. 1)Line 10: The expression is "par consequant" not "par consequence". 1) Line 15: replace "a" with "ont". 2) Line 18: there is no need for a comma after "dame". Remember my explanation on dependent and independent clauses. 3)Line 22: "son portable qui a enteindu" is actually far from what you intended to pen down. The past participle of the verb "eteindre" is "eteint" and since "portable" is the object of the verb here "portable qui etait eteint" would be more appropriate. The last paragraph really challenged your French grammar . 4) Line 23: "le" should be replaced with "la" and "est" should be replaced with "etait". 5) Line 25: a semi colon after "Anne" would have made it easier to read. The commas were too much. Lol. Again, it's "la route" and not "le route". 6) Line 28: The expression "les deux femmes ont trouves chez... " is a bit off (refer to correction number 2 above). Again, "les deux femmes" is the object of the verb here so "les deux femmes ont ete trouvees chez... " would have been better. (I would use "retrouver" here though). 7) Line 29: I assume you wanted to use the present participle (drinking and chatting) when you typed "buvaient et bavardaient". "Buvant et bavardant" (participe present) is rather more appropriate. But since one of the verbs is taking an object (du the) while the other is not, I would introduce the "en train de" construct just to show which is active and which is passive. I'd assume they were chatting and the tea only served to make the moment more perfect. So I would write: ".... les deux femmes ont ete retrouvees chez Madam Anne en train de discuter en buvant du the... " 8 ) Line 29: I would put the word "tous" after "sont". That sounds more French. 9) Line 30: The verbs in a sentence must agree in construct. "Ils ont restes" should go with "Ils ont continue" so I would say "ils ont passes la nuit la bas et ont continue leur voyage le lendemain". 10) Paragraph 3: I know story lines and twists are subjective and but contrary to Bell's preference, I really loved the flash back! Giving the story's background half way down the line is a style employed by many writers and I find it creative. I only wish you made the flash back a paragraph of it's own. Let me see who will give you B1 again! |
ZombieTERROR:Regina is not 18. She's a grown up woman. Anyway, my daughter will make her choices in life just like I made mine. Everyone made or will make theirs whether you and I agree or disagree with them. |
ZombieTERROR:Dear Zombie, Regina was working as an actress. She got married after the age of twenty like most ladies. She's settled with the man of her choice. She's committed no crime. I see no correlation with the Ghanaian who's committed crime by trying to stay illegally in another man's country. Please, don't compare people with criminals cause you don't agree with their life choices. Warm Regards. |
Why would she store her own mum's number as Grace mum? Something's fishy here.... |
lilwetdick:The funny thing is that they'll be the first to call s lady olosho! But this your name shaa.. |
Exodora:My brother, the thing tire me o |
azeez1973:Welcome to Nairaland. Respect your elders. |
I missed the part where she attributed this to surgery. This is edema and could be caused by many things. And for the lad up there that called Micheal Jackson out, pray you don't have to deal with what he went through. |
SmellySperm:What's the point in making fun of these people on the pic you shared? Happy Sunday. |
Newguyhere:You don't know when to stop... |
They got assaulted cause they refused to entertain the perverted men by kissing for them to watch.... |
helinues:Venezuela is in South America. |
olaBC007:Lol. ![]() I totally missed the joke, bro. Glad I still had a meaningful conversation up there. |
Lonelypacifist6:Ok... that's fair. |
Davash222:You're empty, dude. That guy engaged you on a logical ground and you went flat. You'll shouting women as if men are any better. |
Lol.... men are fighting over a lady. Nairaland boys don't know what to type again. If it were ladies fighting over a man, this thread would have been on fire: olosho, women are their own problems, wetin prick go cause hein, etc. |
First, there's not nothing like "well highly paid". Second, a highly paid employee is not a volunteer. ![]() |
Lonelypacifist6:You are right. But the truth is, if the legit ones buy three of such cars tomorrow, you'd still call them oloshos. The young man's brain is wired to believe a woman can't work hard and make it without a man.... |
njbybrthnly:Avec plaisir ! ![]() |
Nice... If it were a lady, these insecure boys would start lashing out at her calling her all sorts of names as if only guys have the right to make it big.... |
