plaindealer:Is Trevor Sinclair an Igbo man? Did you see his own tweet about the Queen? I'm telling you the disposition towards the queen isn't just about the Biafran war. While the war is one of her sources of hurt, her other tweets made it clear she was being anticolonization as well. Her field of study is centered around linguistic diversity and the black race. So this is generally a domain she knows so well and a subject she feels so strongly about. A lot of non Igbos share her sentiments as well. Yes, the other party in the war got harmed too and they have every right to hate Ojukwu just as this lady has every right to hate the Queen. That there are other people that got harmed doesn't automatically wipe away her sentiments. You don't tell people how to feel, and like I said, people would naturally dislike the opposition. The people of Ukraine will not dislike thier president, they'd hate Putin even if you argue that it's thier president leading them to war. It's a matter of perspective. This is not about who is right is wrong, it's a matter of being open minded enough to see things from other people's perspective. You're very eager to dismiss her emotions and tag her tribe with names but this isn't just about the Igbos. |
plaindealer:I really don't understand your points or maybe you didn't understand mine. People are naturally against anyone that cause them harm or pains. I'm not in Nigeria and many blacks here in North America here had terrible things to say about the queen too. So this is not peculiar to Igbos. I only mentioned the war to point out an extra source of her emotions asides slavery. Under her reign, England did very terrible things. So forgive some blacks for not wishing her well. Regarding the war, the queen did not start the war but she enabled those that massacred her people who were supposedly fighting for independence. Even if you don't agree with thier ideology or approach, you should at least, understand why she does not like the queen. You may not like Igbos, but this goes beyond that. The queen is deeply hated by many across the globe. The lady only voiced what should not have been voiced. |
Oh please. Nothing glorifies satan more than the kind of posts this OP creates. The guy gives him so much credit and creates fear in the mind of Christians. It's almost as if he fears satan more than he fears his god. I'm even beginning to think he's antichrist. Lol In the show in question, satan is eventually defeated by the pagan mother of the girl. I don't see anything wrong with promoting paganism. That's the religion of your ancestors, and while you're not obliged to support it, promoting it shouldn't be a threat either. We have a lot of movies promoting Christianity today and nobody is complaining. We even have some Nollywood movies promoting paganism and it's OK. It's only scary when a white man does it. If you can't tolerate other religions, how are you different from Bokoharam? |
FreeStuffsNG:If you admit you killed, you'll go to jail because the person is actually dead. If you admit you stole something, you'd face jail term cause the thing was actually lost. Saying you are gay is not enough reason to be jailed because there's nothing that shows you had sex with someone of the same sex. Being gay and having gay sex are two different things. A gay person is someone sexually attracted to the same gender (regardless of whether they're having sex or not). Being gay is not the crime. On the other hand, gay sex is the intercourse between two people (regardless of whether they're actually gay or just doing it for money). Gay sex is the crime (this includes any association that aids or promotes it). On TikTok, there are many Nigerians that openly identify as gay. How many of them have been arrested? On Twitter, we see a lot of them, and even those that claim they used to be gay in the past. Again, has any of them been arrested? The answer is no, cause there's no medical test for sexuality and they can easily say they were catching cruise. Ask yourself, has anyone been jailed since the law was put in place? |
plaindealer:I wouldn't have said what she said, but I know it easier to judge people from outside. Her family members were direct victims of the war in which the late queen actively supported the opposition. Most of terrible things you read about the slave period happened under the late Queen's watch and that was when the royal family had a say in England. So you see why some Caribbeans and Africans might wish her death. The only difference is that she said what others were thinking. Nevertheless, the gravity of death demands that speak mindfully about the dead. As for her sexuality, it has absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand, so I don't even understand this thread. |
FreeStuffsNG:No. The law only applies if one I'd caught in the act. Read the provision again. Richard Quest of CNN, a well known gay man, was in Nigeria a few years ago, why wasn't he arrested? |
Slynation:Your admiration for terrorism is disturbing, bro. |
You forgot the Canadian Oath of Citizenship. It will also change |
0Plurse:This expression is confusing. You mean you wouldn't buy it if they seller requests for less than 2k? |
You said "slice" but some of them are chopped, diced or minced. |
CaptainAyub:An airport in Ebonyi is a misplaced priority? Lol... Nairalanders. |
uunwanaobong3:Hahaha... I feel bad for laughing so hard when it's death we're talking about. Bro! How can he older than his mother nah? ![]() |
gsegun43:It's actually automatic. He became the King the moment the Queen took her last breath. Any other ceremony that comes after is optional. |
CaveAdullam:I'd like to believe you didn't read my text carefully cause anything other than this would imply you have an issue with comprehension, and you appear more intelligent than that. Please, read the comment you quoted. I said "other genetic factors". The word "other" invariably excludes gender. The genetics factors I was referring to are those those that can be passed from parents (regardless of gender) to thier offspring (regardless of gender). We've seen very intelligent women who got the trait from thier fathers. We've also seen very intelligent men who got the trait from thier mothers. This is enough to tell you gender has not role when it comes to IQ. The gender of a baby is a game of chances that revolve around the chromosome contributed by the male partner. A man may have higher tendency of having a girl child based on his gene. A man can also have higher tendency of having an intelligent child based on his gene. The intelligence of this baby does not reduce based on gender result. There no single empirical evidence to support that. Again, that environmental factors work with genetics is not the bone of contention. The bone of contention is if men will always come out more intelligent when subjected to the same factors as the opposite gender and the answer is NO. You can't send your male child to school and marry off your girl child, and then come back tomorrow to say men are more intelligent just because the guy can speak better English. You can't have the girl do all the house chores and expect the same results with the boy. These are some of the factors I was referring to. The most extensive study on intelligence curve in the US is The Bell Curve by psychologist Richard J. Herrnstein and political scientist Charles Murray. And they propose that by removing race, gender or class as criteria (via the establishment of free primary education and the prohibition of discrimination) the main criteria of success in academic and professional life is primarily based on individual cognitive ability. So you can argue this as much as you want, but the truth is, intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with gender. There are so many research papers on the subject of "why girls get better grades in school" and most of them end up with circumstantial factors as the reasons. So it's mind-blowing for someone to slightly suggest boys are naturally more intelligent Good evening to you too. |
It's easy to connect with a musician whose music lifted your soul at a point. But regarding the queen, you're probably more struck by the fact that her death is a major event. Unless, of course, you've been directly or indirectly affected by something she did in the past, perhaps a special act of kindness or a policy she influenced. Just saying. |
CaveAdullam:Dude, gender has no role in IQ. Nothing you wrote here remotely invalidates that fact. You can go on and on on your quest for supremacy, but take it or leave it, environmental factors and other genetic factors determines intelligence, not gender. |
CaveAdullam:You can supply your own reasons why there are more men on here, and while I may not agree with some of them, I'm not in a position to stamp my own perspective as superior. However, one thing you cannot deny is the intense misogyny going on on this platform. Left, right and center, women are being abused even on threads that have nothing to do with gender. A lady cannot argue or share her opinion on this platform without someone calling her a hoe or saying some derogatory words about her gender or private parts. Denying this is like denying the existence of tribalism on the platform. It's so glaring that you can hardly scroll down a page without reading something disparaging about Nigerian girls. We even have threads dedicated to misogyny by people who call themselves red pillers. So whatever scientific studies you carried definitely has nothing to do with this platform, and it would be shocking for any one, man or woman, to tell me they're oblivious of the way Nairaland guys denigrate the opposite gender here. |
Natbrowny:Camera focus and pixels are terms used for marketing. For those to make a difference in the final product, they must be altered to a great extent and I don't think that's the case here. Tell me, If two pictures are taken with iPhone 13 and 14 respectively, would you be able to tell which of the iPhones produced which picture? |
The death of a mother is the most painful. This is not to undermine the importance of our dear fathers, but humans naturally bond more with thier mothers and mothers, on the other hand, have this impossible love for thier kids against all odds. RIP Our Queen. |
RIP to the Queen! She really tried. It's a celebration of life. Hopefully, we get a public holiday in Canada. Her death will change a few things though. |
A good deal of the complaining are doing so because she's got a cheap look with no banging body. Lol |
Long live the Queen of Canada! |
mediclife1987:Stay there and be spewing trash while your fellow poor guys are making pounds. These boys are at tourist centers; they use the expression "I can make you feel good". You also see them on Facebook groups for tourists. They get paid in foreign currency. You really think they're so sex starved that they just decided to settle for old white women? Anyway, you wouldn't know because you've never left your hometown. You're only good at letting all sorts of rubbish out of that sewer you call mouth. I'm sure nobody would look your way even if you offered your scaly dick dick for free. |
This isn't a teenager. The person isn't nude. You're helping the person get famous. |
Warned? Did the government really issue this warning? How can they stop two consenting adults from having sex? Or they'd stop issuing tourist visa to middle aged and elderly women? I think they should rather focus on reorienting the gigolos. Those guys are proudly prostituting cause Africa has the tendency to ignore promiscuity on the man's side. Reorient them and find them something to do. This kind of warning is embarrassing to the country. If it was African girls sleeping with old British men, this thread would have been on fire with comments like "olosho", "useless girls", "fear women", "to marry these days dey fear me o", "I don't want a female daughter", "girls don't have shame", "daughters of Eve will do anything for money", "veginarians", "that gender!" "puke!", "tofia!", etc. But since it's the men doing the olosho work, they'd gladly look the other way and focus on the foreign clients instead: "sex starved women", "white women and gbola", "old feminists", etc. The only reaction to immorality is to blame women. Tomorrow, we'd come out to say morality is declining in society. Why won't it decline when you expect one gender to bear the burden of maintaining it? Things will keep getting worse until y'all realise that you can't raise good girls in a society full of promiscuous men. |
pansophist:Human nature? Where did you get this from? This idea that men are superior beings and that they do better when brainpower is required while women are relegated to the matters of looks (primarily for men's pleasure) is a typical supremacist's mindset. In other words, it's a complex exhibited by anyone who feels superior to another. They usually attribute it to human nature and when asked to present evidence of that nature, they quote history and statistics with no empirical/clinical evidence. But we all know that history/statistics are easily influenced by all sorts of factors. The ratio of women to men on Quora is 43/57. The gap is not much, and it's better interpreted as a reflection of the ratio women to men in the world accentuated by the impossibility of equality in this case. Biology and psychology have made it clear that there's no gender difference when it comes to human IQ. The narrative that men are intellectually superior is propagated by men, and it's a dangerous one because of its rippling effects on society. Yes, there was a time when only men used to go to school. They had the intellectually tasking jobs and made a good deal of the breakthroughs we know today. Even today, a poor man would rather send his male child to school and marry off his female child. This has led to the belief that men are more intelligent. We're still battling the effects of this belief today in our workspaces and political space. It's also demoralizing to the hardworking ladies out there cause you're telling them that just because of thier gender, they can never measure up regardless of how they try. But in reality, that is not true. It's simply gender bias. Nothing proves that a man is likely to do better in Law, Medicine, etc. with all things being equal. #Opinion. |
madridguy:Why was he arrested? |
EzegeNdiigbo:A good deal of NL members are men, that's very obvious. However, there are more ladies than you think. They just don't comment on threads due to the intense misogyny going on here. The guys are always on every thread abusing and sexualizing women. To some of these guys, it's fun; to others, it's way to make themselves feel better about thier own underachieving life; while the rest just want to belong. You see threads where men commit all sorts of crimes, and we all gather to criticize the men in question (though we sometimes foolishly make it about thier tribes or religion). However, when a lady is the culprit, it becomes a gender thing for the guys. You'd read "fear women", "Nigerian women are wicked", "Nigerian girls are useless", "olosho", etc. Even on threads where women are doing great, you'd still read "this one punna go sweet o", "her husband dey enjoy o", and other expressions that objectify them and undermine thier achievements. These comments are made by people who complain thier tribes are being marginalized or that the white man is a racist. Yet they boldly make these misogynistic statements without identifying them as discriminatory. It has become so normal that while mods are fighting tribalism, nobody really cares about the sexism. Words have power. It's easy to speak someone into depression/anxiety or low self esteem. It's easy to spoil someone's day with words. These words can make someone give up because regardless of what they do, the outcome is the same. I mean, if I were a lady, I'd stay away from such a demoralizing platform. So some of these ladies decided to leave the platform for the guys. Some are still here but hardly comment. Others have removed the gender identifier or even identify as male. I mean, look at it, the other day, someone created a thread asking why we have many women on the BBN thread. He called them jobless. The person forgot that the rest of NL including the dirty sexuality section are filled with men. It's becoming increasingly difficult for the ladies here. It's as if we're going back to those days where women had to use thier husbands' names or even fake male names to advance thier achievements like Margaret Keane, Trotula of Salerno, Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Lise Meitner and numerous others. |
dawnomike:I get this, but actually, this picture tells little about thier friendship. The only thing we know for sure I'd that the four friends met each other again on a certain day. Every other thing is assumption. |
princeemmma:Shey na people future husbands dey there dey share disease too? Life is give and take. One gender cannot bear the cross of maintaining the sanity of the society alone. |
True. Students are on strike. That the party took place in a hotel near the school doesn't the mean the participants were students of the school. Awka has a lot clubs and it's not uncommon for promoters to organize such events with sex workers or imported strippers. People just assume things and go ahead to spread them as facts. |
