I went to get my haircut downtown sometime last year and I got into a conversation with the barbers and some of thier friends. They were celebrating one of them who recently had a successful hearing, so we started talking about the refugee status thing and how it works. It was really mind-blowing the kind of stories people tell just to get this status. Some were so ridiculous u began to wonder of the judges were dumb. The only sad thing is that those that really need the status don't even make it to Canada. Imagine straight guys claiming to be gay just to to get the status and then turning around to criticize the West for making the country safe for gay people. Smh.

I don't know your sexuality, and to be honest, I really don't care about people's sexuality as it's none of my business. However, I don't think there's anything in your story that suggests you're gay. Anyone that reads your story and finds it gay is either suffering from toxic masculinity or simply projecting thier own insecurities.

Do not change the narrative to fit your mindset. He did not beg. He requested for the guy's number. This is very normal and that's exactly what any confident person would do. If you spend 3 weeks with someone who could be a good friend, and you shy away from taking thier number simply because you're scared it might seem gay, you simply lack self confidence. It means you're not even so sure of your own sexuality. Any straight man whose sexuality is not remotely questionable wouldn't even think the way you're thinking.

And no, you couldn't have served before I was born, but if you're indeed that old, and you still have these insecurities, I'd suggest you engage in some self awareness exercise to figure out what the issue is.

Yeah, that's why I said removing some mandatory payments would help. Most times, people hold on traditions like there are sacred, but history has taught us that everything is subject to change. People just fear change either cause they don't know how else to exist or they're benefitting from it. The custodians of our culture are old men who probably paid during thier own time.
