According to a report by The PUNCH, some parts of Owerri, Mbaitoli and environs in Imo State have come under serious attacks.

The communities came under attacks on Friday afternoon by gunmen who were enforcing sit-at-home order.

The gunmen struck at different locations and killed a policeman, Prince Iheme, elder brother to Nollywood superstar, Osita Iheme popularly known as Pawpaw.

The gunmen also macheted the state Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Martin Eke.

The gunmen who rode in Trundra operational vehicles shot indiscriminately forcing people to scamper for safety.

While businesses abruptly closed, the roads were deserted as motorists abandoned their vehicles and ran away.

At Orji, a community sharing boundary with the state capital, the gunmen wearing black clothes in three vehicles attacked residents and passersby, including policemen.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the gunmen met policemen at the 7Up junction at Orji and shot one cop dead.

He said, “They just killed a policeman now. They opened fire on them and were shouting, ‘There is sit-at-home. We have asked you to go home. Stay indoors.''

Another eyewitness said, “I just escaped death now. They stopped before us and shot in the air and asked us to go home. They didn’t shoot at us maybe because I was in the midst of some elderly women.”

The PUNCH correspondent also gathered that the fleeing gunmen shot repeatedly at Nkwo Orji market before taking off towards Okigwe Road.

At Ubommiri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, the gunmen attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress candidate for Mbaitoli/ Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Akarachi Amadi.

While Prince Iheme was killed on the spot, the state commissioner for Solid Minerals, Martin Eke, was cut with a machete.

An eyewitness who didn’t want to be mentioned said, “This attack is politically motivated. We just finished at one campaign rally ground and were heading to Ubommiri. Our convoy was attacked at Amawuihe before Ubommiri.

“Prince Iheme was riding in the same vehicle with the commissioner for solid minerals. Prince Iheme who is Pawpaw’s elder brother was killed on the spot. The commissioner who was sworn in two weeks ago was cut badly. He has just been rushed to a hospital. They were driving in a Ford SUV. I pray he makes it.”

The police spokesman for the command, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the incidents.

A mum-of-five has said that she regrets not listening to her seven-year-old daughter who warned that she could go blind if she got her eyeballs tattooed.

Law student Anaya Peterson, 32, is now losing her sight after she chose to tattoo her eyeballs blue and purple.

She was inspired by "blue-eyed dragon" Amber Luke, an Australian model who got her eyeballs inked blue in 2019 - before going temporarily blind for three weeks.

Anaya, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, was left hospitalised following the eye alteration and is facing permanent blindness after a suspected reaction to the eyeball ink.

The mum, who also has a tongue split and facial tattoos, now says she wishes she could have done things differently.

She got her right eyeball tattooed blue in July 2020 and decided to get her left eye dyed purple in December 2020.

After months without complications, Anaya was shocked to wake up in August 2021 with "swollen" eyelids as though her "face had been inflated with air".

As the swelling continued to get worse despite taking antibiotics, Anaya checked herself into the hospital's A&E ward.

Anaya claims that her daughter India was never on board with the eye tattoo, as she feared that her mum would "go blind"

Anaya said: "I was just going to get one [eye tattoo] at first because I thought that if I go blind, at least I've got the other eye. I should have stuck with that.

"My daughter told me that I didn't want to do that [the tattoo] asking, 'what if you go blind?' She wasn't on board with it at all.

"My [top] eyelid started to swell, and my bottom eyelid started to swell.

"It kept getting worse and worse. I looked like I'd done ten rounds with Mike Tyson.

"I took the option to go [to hospital] myself. They gave me surgery and took samples of my eye.

"They wouldn't have been able to do it while I was awake, I would have been an absolute nightmare, so they put me to sleep.

"I just wanted to be at home watching [TV] to be honest. I can't even put it into words. It wasn't nice at all whatsoever.

"It was traumatising to go through. I just remember thinking, I'm not doing that sh*t again, with the eye tattoo. I'm definitely not doing that sh*t again."

The ordeal has left Anaya regretting her choice to follow in the footsteps of Amber Luke.

Anaya has been told by ophthalmologists that she is now at a very high risk of contracting glaucoma, and her eyesight is already worsening, with her vision clouded by "hundreds of thousands of floaters".

The student claims she is being supported by her university and is being provided with applications to make reading easier, as well as counselling.

Anaya said: "I'm kind of recovered - on the outside, it's recovered. It's just inside. I'm basically on the verge of going blind.

"I don't have 20/20 vision anymore. From a distance I can't see features on faces.

"If I didn't have my eyeballs tattooed, I wouldn't be having this problem. Even today I woke up with more floaters in my eyes. And that is dangerous.

"I can't get these eye tattoos out. I'm always going to have this problem. So, I basically think that as I get older, it's just best to let me go blind.

"When I'm 60 or 70, I don't want to have to go to the eye doctor every two or three days.

"If I could go back in time, I would have done one black [eye tattoo] and left it. I would have done one black. Absolutely. "I tell my daughter not to care about the opinions of someone else because they're just ordinary people like you.

"You have positive comments and negative comments, but the negative comments always overshadow the positive ones."

The people of Ogu kingdom in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State celebrated the annual Iria festival, an ancient ceremony aimed at welcoming young female virgins into womanhood.

During the ceremony held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, the young girls were given certificates by the elders and chiefs of the town for passing through a test.

According to Niger Delta Insider, to pass through the test, the girls must first be virgins which will be confirmed by women of the town.

The young girls are then kept in a room where they will be fed and also groomed before the ceremony.

After passing through this process, the qualified girls are given certificates showing that they are now adults ready for marriage.

This ceremony is said to date back to the 17th century.

AAUA students and lecturer run for their lives after their classmates dressed as bandits storm their class for a presentation on terrorism

Students and a lecturer of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba in Ondo state recently ran for their lives after some of the students in their class came in dressed as terrorists for a presentation they were having on terrorism.

The students who dressed in military camouflage and had their faces covered while carrying "guns", came into the lecture room for their presentation.

The lecturer and the students said they thought they were under attack, making everyone scamper for safety.

A student of the school who gave an insight into what happened wrote.

A final-year student of Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Muhammad has been released.

He was arrested by the police at his varsity on November 18 over a tweet that appeared to mock Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

His arrest elicited mixed reactions with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) apologising to Mrs. Buhari over the tweet.

The tweet, which was posted on June 8, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.”

Muhammad’s tweet, accompanied by a photo of Aisha, loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.

He had been arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja prison in Niger State.

Aminu was charged with Cybercrime, Cybersquatting, Computer Related Forgery, Conspiracy and Criminal Breach of Trust.

The federal government has approved a new National Language Policy which makes mother tongue a compulsory medium of instruction for public primary school pupils.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this today, Nov. 30, while briefing reporters on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

The minister revealed that the mother tongue will be used exclusively for the first six years of education, while it will be combined with English Language from Junior Secondary School.

He said even though the policy has officially taken effect, it can only be fully implemented when government develops instructional materials and qualified teachers are available.

Adamu explained that the mother tongue to be used in each
school will be the dominant language spoken by the community where it is located.

The minister said the government is prepared to preserve cultures and their peculiar idiosyncrasies, stressing that sobmuch has been lost due to the extinction of some local languages.

He assured Nigerians that all Nigerian languages are equalband will be treated as such.

Three injured in crash as Kenyan husband who was with his girlfriend chases his wife and her boyfriend after spotting them kissing

Three persons were injured in a serious crash which occurred at Mama Ngina near Mombasa Golf Club in Kenya after a husband spotted his wife kissing another man and chased them at high speed with his own vehicle.

It was gathered that the man lost control of the car in his anger and crashed into a mkokoteni (a cart)

According to local news published on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, the husband was incidentally also carrying his girlfriend in his car at the time.

"The wife escaped safely and her boyfriend has dropped her home. The wife's boyfriend is suspected to be a retired Safari Rally driver. One person injured was taken to Coast
General Hospital and 2 other injured taken to Pandya Hospital," the report read.

A 27-year-old suspected Yahoo boy, Obeta John, was on Tuesday, November 29, arrested by men of Ogun state Police Command for allegedly killing his girlfriend, one Idowu Buhari, an HND1 Mass Communication student of Gateway polytechnic Saapade.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was picked up following a distress call received at Ode-Remo divisional headquarters, that one Obeta John, who resides at No 3, Mojubade compound, Eredu Ishara, locked his girlfriend inside his room and had started beating her, and hitting her head against the wall. All efforts made to persuade him to open the door proved abortive.

''Upon the distress call, the DPO Ode-remo division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi quickly led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door opened.

The victim was quickly rushed to State HospitalIshara, but was pronounced dead by doctor on duty.'' the statement reads

He said the suspect who is an indigene of Enugu state was promptly arrested and taken to custody.

''On interrogation, the suspect, Obeta John, informed the police that he is an internet fraudster, and that certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend which she refused to relinquish to him.

He stated further that it was the argument over the said money that led to scuffle between them which eventually led to the death of the girl. ''the statement read

Abimbola added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and
diligent prosecution.
