David Moyes has been sacked as manager of La Liga strugglers Real Sociedad a day short of his one-year anniversary at the Spanish club.

The 52-year-old steered the Basque team to 12th spot last season after taking charge on 10 November 2014. But La Real are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference and Friday's 2-0 defeat at Las Palmas was their fourth in five league games.

A Sociedad statement said they had decided to terminate Moyes's contract. The club are 16th and face Europa League winners Sevilla and European champions Barcelona in their next two La Liga games after the international break.

The move to Sociedad was the Scot's first job after he was sacked as Manchester United manager in April 2014 following a 10-month spell in charge.

The residents of Asero area of Abeokuta were thrown into mourning around 4pm yesterday when a wandering baby boy fell into a well located in the vicinity of the popular Kampala market and drowned.
The victim simply identified as Ife died a few minutes after his mother fed him.

A mother and her 14 months old daughter were killed after being hit by stray bullets when robbers laid siege close to their house at Block 8, 23 Road House in Festac Town, Lagos, shooting sporadically from a machine gun during a bank robbery in Festac.

Uju, one of the residents of Block 8, where the stray bullet hit Mrs. Jane Beluchukwu-Ndirika, a nurse and her 14-month-old daughter Nmesoma said:

“While the shooting was going on, every one laid on the floor in their respective apartments. I was with Jane in her parlour while her child was inside the room. Suddenly, the child started crying and the mother stood up to carry her. As she was coming to the sitting room with the baby, a stray bullet perforated the window, hit the baby in the chest and also got the mother on the left side of her shoulder. Immediately, she took the child back to the room and started shouting for help. Nobody came to her rescue because people were running helter skelter for dear life.”

However, when the dust settled, a neighbour, identified as Irabor Sunday, reportedly rushed them to Mother and Child Hospital at the First Gate in Festac where they were confirmed dead. The baby was, thereafter, taken back to the house while her mother was rushed to Lord’s Chosen Church where a prayer session was organised for her revival. -

A 42-year-old self-professed Islamic cleric, known locally as Alfa, has been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ court for engaging a 34 year-old lady in s*x deliverance that lasted for three days.
The cleric, Jamiu Mukaila, reportedly defrauded the lady, Bose Alele, to the tune of N350,000 after which he engaged her in a three-day marathon s*x under the false pretense of casting evil spirit out of her.

The incident happened in her house at Ire-Akari Road in Isolo, a suburb of Lagos. According to Bose, who is still in shock, Mukaila approached her and introduced himself as Alfa and told her that he had a revelation from God concerning making her life better. He told her that she was possessed by evil spirit and that she needed deliverance to cast out the evil spirit so that favour will come her way. Part of the condition he gave her was that she would pay N350,000 which would be used to buy spiritual materials and that she must sleep with him for three days.

She said he assured her that she would enjoy favours after he had worked on her and that she would equally get a husband of her choice after the deliverance. Bose said she did not know what came over her immediately after the encounter as she paid the N350,000 he requested and she allowed him have s*x with her for three days before she came to her senses. Immediately she realised that she had fallen for the cleric’s deception, she went to Aswani Police Division and reported what happened.

Lagos did not record any explosion incident today as been erroneously circulated. Rather, a minor fire incident occurred at L & K Bus-Stop, in Oworonshoki area of Lagos State at about 1400hrs, where a wine shop went in flames caused by a leaking refrigerator gas. No life was lost.

However, three persons suffered burns and were taken to hospital; two were treated and discharged at a private hospital, while the third, is admitted at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Idi-Araba.

In line with the Inspector-General’s of Police policy thrust of pro-active policing, the Command will continue to emplace measures to increase Police visibility in the state with a view to nipping in the bud any untoward incident, please.

The family of a deceased woman has suspended her burial rites until her ‘husband’ who she was cohabiting with performs her wedding rites. The woman Chinyere Mbam was been bitten to death by a snake while returning from the wake-keep of her friend, Oge Ogashi who passed on.

She was taken to a traditional healing home in the area for treatment and thereafter back to the husband’s home where she gave up the ghost when she could not respond to the treatment.

Her uncle, Ishiali Ikwe confirmed her death.

But the deceased’s family have mandated his ‘husband’ Stephen Mbam of Enyi Igwe village Ezzainyimagu community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State, to carry out her traditional marriage rites before she is buried. It was gathered that the woman had been co-habiting with Stephen for three years and their relationship produced a child even though he did not fulfill her marriage rites.

According to the Uncle, the family has put the burial on hold until Mbam performs traditional marriage on the deceased. He further said that Mbam’s family, in line with the tradition of the land, have scheduled a date for payment of the bride price to be preceded by the wedding.

There has been tension in the Ishawo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State as military officers and mobile policemen have taken over the community.Information learnt that more than 10 Armoured Personnel Carriers, together with hundreds of soldiers, bombarded the area from 4am on Saturday. It was learnt that the operation of motorcycles riders and tricycle drivers was restricted while many residents could not move out of their homes.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that residents were in mortal fear of the unknown. He said two civilians were feared dead.

He said, “There are so many of the soldiers. The soldiers have started combing everywhere and they were backed by mobile policemen. They have cordoned off the community. They started arriving since 4am and the whole place is littered with them. They are patrolling Ishawo road. Nobody can come out. Two civilians have been killed, but I don’t have their names yet.”

It will be recalled that no fewer than seven officials of the Department of State Service were reportedly killed in September by some suspected pipeline vandals in the area. The vandals took away their remains and escaped with their weapons. Prior to the time, three policemen attached to the Owutu Police Division and Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, were also shot dead by the vandals, who took away their corpses.

It seems that many Nigerians have bought into the notion of one man, one wife and 60% of a poll conducted by Pulse News voters are of this view. Hadi Ametuo, Kogi state chairman of the All Progressives Congress has confirmed that former governor of the state and his party flag bearer for Novermber 21 gubernatorial election, Prince Audu Abubakar will refund N11 billion he allegedly stole from the state’s coffer.

Audu is said to be under prosecution by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly siphoning N11 billion of the state’s fund which was placed under his watch as a governor between 1999 to 2003. The state chairman of the party made this revelation while fielding questions from journalists over Audu’s N11 billion EFCC case saying there is no saint among the politicians.

There are strong indications that Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former Governor of Bayelsa, might be extradited to the United Kingdom, despite being pardoned by former President Goodluck Jonathan said a story on pulse tv news.

The story also reads that this hint was given by The Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, who said "there is a pact between Britain and Nigeria which obliges us to extradite offenders who they are looking for."

According to Punch Newspapers, Sagay also said “Alamieyeseigha allegedly committed a separate crime by laundering money in Britain and that is not a crime in Nigeria but a crime against British Criminal Law and so, Goodluck Jonathan cannot pardon him for that.”

The woman claims she can no longer cope with the social ridicule caused by her husband’s height. A woman in Saudi Arabia is reportedly divorcing her husband because he is too short.

The unnamed pair have been married for seven months, but are now heading for divorce as the woman claims she can no longer cope with being mocked for being taller than her partner, according to Gulf News. The woman, in her 20s, has reportedly told the endowment department in the country’s eastern province that she wanted to separate from her husband because she is painfully uneasy with, and caused distress by, attitudes towards the union from strangers in public.

The head of the endowment department in Al Qatif, Shaikh Mohammed Al Jirani, said the case was among the strangest it had dealt with.

News of the woman’s bold move has received a mixed response on social media, with some blaming her for accepting to marry him to begin with, while a few said she was right to be divorcing the man as his height was not an issue which could be overcome with mere patience.

In May, a Saudi Arabian man reportedly divorced his wife after she sent him a video which showed her driving the family car. Saudi women are subjected to a de facto ban on driving in the kingdom as they are not allowed to apply for licences.

The man filed for divorce, reportedly telling a judge that his wife had not only broken the law, but also social traditions and norms.

A Delta State High Court sitting at Asaba, the state capital, on Friday sentenced four persons to a total of 67 years imprisonment with hard labour for kidnapping one Mrs. Ighowoh Yavbiere and four children. Mrs. Yavbieri is the wife of Mr. Raymond Yavbieri, a former Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly.

The court presided over by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Marshal Mukoro, in its verdict sentenced the accused persons to 67 years imprisonment for their involvement in the abduction of the lawmaker’s family members.

Three of the accused persons got 20 years each, while the 4th accused who was convicted on only one charge was sentenced to seven years in prison. They were convicted on charges of conspiracy, kidnapping and demanding property with menace as they received the sum of N7million from Yevbieri before his family regained freedom.

A thief was involved in an accident while trying to escape with the motorcycle he stole along Abu King Shuluwa road, Makurdi Benue state, yesterday, October 1st. According to Benue.com, the thief who was disguised as a passenger, had flagged down a motorcycle rider and asked to be taken to Tse-Ayihe, a suburb on the outskirts of Makurdi.

When they arrived at his destination, the thief forcefully snatched the motorcycle from the rider. As he tried to run with the motorcycle, an alarm was raised and he was immediately pursued by other motorcycle riders in the area.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has told the people of the state to enjoy their independence day holiday at home as there is nothing to celebrate about it.

The governor who spoke to newsmen after meeting with members of the state executive council, permanent secretaries and heads of non ministerial agencies said:“I didn’t say the celebration will be low key, I said it will be ‘No Key’, I don’t have money to celebrate anything, even if I have money I will take the money to the people rather than coming to march in the stadium.”

According to Ondo Events, Fayose asked what is the essence of coming to march at the stadium when the people are hungry. “I am just going to read my address to the state, am not coming to the stadium, I will just go round to the grassroot and talk to the people and spend that day with the people, the common people and enjoy the day with them.

“I am not going to go into any unnecessary celebration that in reality doesn’t exist. So Ekiti at 19, we congratulate ourselves, Nigeria at 55, Congratulations Nigeria,” he said.
Meanwhile pensioners in Ekiti state have cried out to Governor Fayose ‎to accommodate them in the bailout fund disbursements in paying their gratuities, pensions and other entitlements.

According to Punch Newspapers, Gani alleged that Lola Akande and Deji Tinubu are family members of of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National leader.
