jmoore: Don't be deceived by webometrics, it has nothing to do with academic excellence.

"webometrics is a directory of world universities ranked according to their presence on the Web"

TRUE talk, even from the name "Webometrics" translating as standard of measurement of world universities based on their web ranking, comprising how good their web design, how interactive is the website, how updated it is compared to it's counterparts. But OAU is still a school to reckon with in Nigeria, but I don't know for Africa.

I don't want to say that IMSU is disoriented, but by now they supposed to come out clear about the post utme exam date, instead of keeping prospective candidates in suspense, IMSU has pass this level of indecisiveness in their decision. A lot of candidates may really miss the exam dates since everything is based on rumour. At least the school has an official website to post such info. And by now, IMSU supposed to have conducted the exam, while other institutions are about to prepare their admission list of successful candidates. IMSU should better wake up.

Education / Re: U.n.n 2013-2014 Post-utme Results Released! by fabby26(m): 11:46am On Jul 22, 2013
This is extortion by UNN, what's the need of producing a different scratch card for checking result at that cost, they would've put the whole money at NGN3200, instead if subjecting students to another stress of procuring Result checker card, beside the aspirants are not even sure what the results will turn out to be. Is so unfair.
Nevertheless GOODLUCK to all prospective Lions & Lionesses.

VillageBoi:

Yeah the OP seems disappointed as im dey expect make a million people jump inside this thread begin yab Naija films. Make him go make his own film come learn how much hard work & how difficult it actually is. Not that that is an excuse for bad films.

@villageboi & Speedyboi. Disappointed? I never meant for people to start yabbing naija film if you observe my last 2 sentences, afterall na today people start yabbing naija movies. As for whether the movie has won an award or not, it may not had won any Oscars, but is an epic movie whether you like it or not, it had sold millions of copies all over the world. We all know most of our half-baked directors and scriptwriters on how they unnecessarily enlongate a 90-minutes movie into different parts with same movie having different names but still on the same storyline, that's lack of creativity. I may not be a scriptwriter or director, but I'm free to give constructive criticism where it is needed, never destructive, point noted@ villageboi

TV/Movies / If It Had Been A Nigerian That Directed The Epic Award-wining Film: Spartacus by fabby26(m): 11:19pm On Jul 17, 2013
I love how the movie script was written with very good directing, from the movie director, right from the onset, packed with suspence, though full of adult contents & Obscene features, from start to finish. From the rise of Spartacus in "Blood & Sand" to his fall as a hero in War of the damned(Season 4)marking the end of the whole episodes. Wonder if it had been a Nigerian director, the film for reach season 10, if e go allow make it finish bearing in mind the huge sum of money it generates. Big Ups for Starz. Please what do you think? Not trying to undermine the efforts of Nigeria movie directors. They are trying

So UNN is still considering whether to go by general Jamb cut-off of 180+ or stick to their initial standard cut-off of 200+, and still indecisive on the PUME date. They should better obey FGN directive and come down from their high esteem back to reality to save aspiring/prospective lions and lioness

You keep on repeating the same thing. There's no problem with that, the change of course is to reflect in your jamb result, which is what you will tender during your PUME, the jamb registration form is of no value except during registration process of which it had served its purpose. So that should not worry you at all. You're major concern should be how to pass your PUME.

It should be Food processing & Storage because when there's better and economic means of processing and storing of food products, it will go a long way in tackling the needs of an ordinary man in Nigeria, and besides every1 needs food to survive.

Education / Re: Letter To All Nigerian V.cs by fabby26(m): 12:48am On Jun 06, 2013
fataiiyo:
LETTER TO ALL NIGERIAN V.Cs

Sir, one of the problems in many, if not all Nigerian universities is that some of the Vice- Chancellors (V.Cs) are too far away from their students despite the fact that they are on campus with their students! They often erroneously believe that getting close to their students is condescending. Whereas, getting close to the students will create mutual understanding as communication gap will be bridged.

To underscore my points, how many V.Cs operate an open-door policy in which their students have direct access to them? How many V.Cs give out their mobile line to student for direct communication? In this information and communication age, how many of our powerful V.Cs are on the Facebook or any other social network medium with which their students can pass information across? If President Goodluck Jonathan can find Facebook useful in sharing information with Nigerians, why are our V.Cs still hiding in the comfort of their offices?

Apart from matriculation and graduation ceremonies, many Nigerian V.Cs are not visible, hence, many students don’t know their V.Cs throughout the four years spent on campus. This is not good. V.Cs should manage our campuses by opening up to the students, wandering about the campuses to know what is going on; if possible, sit for a few minutes in a lecture room to listen to the lecturers.

I am propelled to challenge all our V.Cs this way as a result of my recent encounter with the University of Ibadan (UI) VC, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole. I had heard so much good reports about Prof. Adewole since he was appointed, but l never met him or saw him physically because of protocols built around him.

However, at a christening ceremony of a new born baby of Mr & Mrs Sunday Saanu, the VC’s media man, which I attended, I was lucky to have met my VC at the occasion. I was shocked when l saw the UI VC along with his wife, attending the ceremony. Mr Saanu introduced us to the VC as students at Ibadan. I was dazed with the humility displayed by our highly respected VC. He shook hands with all of us and exchanged banters. Prof. Adewole was lively, friendly and amiable; he even took photograph with us. I was more than happy and excited. When he was leaving the ceremony, he gave us “transport fare” as an expression of his love for us. It was as I was dreaming.

Since then, my impression about him changed. I now know that if our VCs can be closer to their students, there will be less tension on our campuses. I have been carrying the picture I took with my VC around and my friends are envious just as my fiancée now respects me more because she sees me as VC’s friend.

Prof. Adewole is even on Facebook. I have added him as my friend. This is how our VCs should open up. We want to interact with them in order to have solution to our problems. I therefore say kudos to Prof. Adewole for setting a good example for others to follow. He should keep up the good work he has started at Ibadan. Indeed, if Prof. Adewole continues this way, he will see that nobody will demonstrate against him throughout his tenure. Our political leaders should learn lesson from this. When we would have voted for them, they have this habit of hiding away from us until election time. Our leaders should be visible and available.
