chukxie:That's simplifying it. China's predatory loans are well known and they purposefully engage in debt traps with the hope of securing national assets in countries around the world. Is it the fault of stupid leaders ? Absolutely! China knows the leaders in many poor countries are corrupt and cannot afford money for infrastructure projects. They also know that infrastructure is an easy way to win votes so they give money to these countries for large infrastructure projects which allows politicians to boast about their achievements and win votes. Now let's examine the actual loans. The US and other countries absolutely borrow money but they do so by borrowing from national banks and issuing government debt certificates held by private investors. The government then hires American companies to carry out the projects it borrows money for thus giving money back to the economy and boosting their gdp and tax revenue. Meanwhile when African countries borrow from China they are able to obtain loans at a lower interest rate than what investors are willing to accept (about 5% vs the 13% on Nigerian govt debt securities). They are also able to borrow much more than they can from the world bank although they have to do so at 5% instead of the 1% required by world financial institutions and without social and human rights requirements. China doesnt care if you're a dictator or doing genocide, they will still give u loans On the face of it this seems good but chinese loans come with strings attached. The first is that chinese companies must be contracted for the projects which will use chinese materials and laborers to build these projects. As such the money goes from chinese state owned banks to chinese companies and people. They use few local laborers but mostly their own people. To the point where Pakistan had to build an entire separate city for rhe chinese laborers in their country and Pakistanis aren't allowed to live there. The loans now pay chinese companies and laborers. Additionally the country has to now pay back the loan in dollars to China thus allowing their banks to earn a profit as well. Thus they're basically paying themselves money and making money from the country they gave the loan to. Even though the rate of interest is lower, the money is lost from the country's economy because it was paid to chinese companies. The only thing the country gains is the infrastructure project but infrastructure projects alone don't boost an economy. You need solid economic policies to do so. Additionally if a country finds itself unable to pay back the debt china will cease the asset its loans helped build. Kenya is on the verge of losing it's Mombasa port and china has already seized assets from Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Many asian countries have started to turn against chinese loans. |
Sirwallace:I know that the constitution is the highest law of the land and it supercedes other laws but the constitution can be amended to remove it'd objection to LGBT people. I don't think religious law should supercede constitutional law. Sharia law is a very evil system full of barbaric violence to the point where several muslim countries don't follow it or only follow a part of it. Yet it's the law of the North. |
Witnes:The people of dubai are Arabs too and if you think prostitution doesn't happen in Saudi you're very wrong. Many Saudis do go to Bahrain, Lebanon, Dubai etc in the weekends to have their way with oloshos but there are many in Saudi too, it's just more dangerous if you get caught in Saudi. |
Get info on the whereabouts of other Bokos from them then throw them all in a cell for the rest of their lives. |
Lee29:You call my knowledge myopic while hating on a group of people found all over the world only because two books are telling you to do so. Jesus preached love, not hate so why hold onto the hatred of lgbt people? Yes slavery occurred throughout history with every race of people but the biggest instance of people enslaving those who were not like them was whites taking black slaves (15 million) and Arabs taking black slaves (13 million). At that time the west was Christian and the Arabs Muslim but neither religion forbade the evil of slavery. Instead they chose to focus on lgbt and gay people that weren't enslaving or hurting anyone. Yes slavery still exists in Mauritania, Libya and the like but in most Muslim countries it has been abolished. I am not a "gay" but it doesn't really bother me if you insist on calling me one. If you're talking about diseases, plenty have begun from eating bush meat so why don't you stop that practice before obsessing over gay people? |
Lee29:I am not a homosexual but I don't believe in treating people badly based on their sexuality. Nigeria's laws are retarded and need to be changed. Slavery was also permitted by Jesus and Allah so should white people and Arabs have continued to keep Africans as slaves ? |
Sirwallace:You realize that it is possible for constitutions to be amended right ? Something being written in the constitution doesn't automatically make it correct. Just because Christianity and Islam say it's wrong doesn't make it okay to treat lgbt people badly or deny them their rights. By that logic if there was a group that kills Christians and Muslims or punishes them severely then that groups actions are also justified because maybe their Constitution or religion call for it. Both Christianity and Islam allowed the taking of slaves and the constitutions of the middle East and West allowed for it. So surely slavery is correct and no one needs to apologize for enslaving the black man. |
Taba21:Sharia law is evil, much rather have the military as ineffective as they are. |
Are the people at KASU stupid ? Why hire him if he was dismissed from ABU due to dexual misconduct and extortion of female students ? |
Lee29:Why should they be jailed ? Because your book says they're sinners ? If I make a new religion saying Christians and Muslims are evil and should be jailed, can I do so? |
Lee29:Not paying taxes, doing scams and writing hate speech is also against Nigerian law. Which of those should you be jailed for ? |
BRT systems are more useful than public busses for the transport of people and to reduce traffic congestion. The provision of a dedicated lane helps them avoid traffic jams and time lost at red light stops. However, they also must be efficient with the provision of two lanes, no traffic light stops and a bi-lane system that allows busses to travel to and from destinations. That being said donating busses to a private company is suspicious and the money could have been better spent in other ways. |
Greenbirth:There are 54 African countries. Saying that Nigerians shouldn't travel to any of them is xenophobia itself. Xenophobia doesn't mean violence. It means a hatred of anything that isn't the same as you. If other African countries all hate Nigerians then it may be the fault of something Nigeria is doing. I don't believe that is true though. Some think Nigerians boast too much and of course there are too many drug dealers and other criminals that are going to other countries from Nigeria but that doesn't mean all Nigerians are hated. |
notoriousbabe:I used to live in Dubai. It costs at least 140,000 for just visa, hotel stay and food for one person for a week, that doesn't include flight costs and any other expenses. There is no way 200k is enough for 2 weeks in a good hotel with a family of 6. Even it you sit in the hotel all day and don't eat food you will need more than that. |
notoriousbabe:Isn't that sad ? That sub saharan Africa, despite high poverty has such an underdeveloped tourism infrastructure that it's super expensive for tourists to come. That and security Is why Africans lose out on the massive potential tourism revenue the region can earn. |
They didn't even implement most of the elements of the BRT system. No elevated roads, a single instead of double track system, no automated ticketing etc. |
Mummymahdi:The one you went to may not be the same as the one reported in the news or you may not have seen what's truly going on. The people rescued from there said they were raped. The news may have added salt, sure, but unless there is evidence of them lying I believe the news. |
Isinweke:Kenya's economy is controlled by Kenyans. There is massive middle class in Kenya just as there is here. Yes Indians, Pakistanis, Lebanese, Chinese etc have set up several business in Kenya owing to policies favoring FDI and ease of doing business but they hire black Kenyans and create jobs spurring economic growth. Look at Zimbabwe and Uganda. They chased all their foreigners out and suffered economically for years. South Africa is controlled heavily by whites due to apartheid. However, black income and share in the economy has steadily been growing. Egypt is highly highly corrupt with the military controlling 40% of the economy. also Egypt is not religously or economically homogeneous. Read about their many ethnic groups. They also have 10% christians among them. Morocco is more homogeneous but their economy is not very spectacular. They just have a small population and have leveraged their economy and cultural offerings well to the point where they make 20% of their gdp from tourism alone. |
HeyCorleone:Even India managed to solve their problem of street shitting, they built a ton of toilets but we in Nigeria can't even get electricity. That being said Ghana is a shithole too so abeg don't try and compare yourselves to Nigeria. |
Kenya's GDP per capita (Average income per citizen) has been rising steadily since 2005 and is at nearly the same level of Nigeria. They also have a much lower poverty rate at 16% as compared to Nigeria's 47%. Thus this is not the result of poverty but rather the result of greed. You can argue that Nigeria doesn't receive many tourists but I haven't heard such news coming from Mozambique or Zimbabwe which receive as many tourists as Kenya and are much poorer. I don't get what Kenyans are complaining about. Their country is rapidly growing and developing and their income has tripled since 2005. Compared to the shit hole next door to them, Somalia, Kenya is doing amazing. |
Slimdada:Because that's what Nigeria needs more of, gangsters! |
OP if you're still reading this let me give my two cents Many victims of domestic assault are weaker willed people who find it difficult to leave their partner despite the repeated abuse they suffer. Their abusers often pick them for precisely this reason, testing and pushing their boundaries over the years till they know that they can do what they like, even beat the person till they're nearly dead without suffering any repercussions. My advice would be to stop sending your son to their house despite his attachment to her kids, you can allow her kids at your house if you'd like. The next thing would be read up on the abundance of domestic abuse resources available online. It is honestly very difficult to help the victims since they'll often shield their abuser. I'm not sure if you should withdraw the police case but try and contact any organizations that work with women in your area and inform them of the abuse. Also see if you can convince your neighbor to talk to someone like her parents or elders who will understand. In order to get her to see her husband for the monster he is she needs psychological help and slow but steady counseling. She won't leave him in a day. |
Thegoodone13:If China had closed their borders they wouldn't have the highest level of export in the world. Why will a country allow your products if you won't allow theirs ? They rapidly industrialized and began to produce value added goods that the rest of the world can't do without. While the rest of the world was selling China rife and stone, China was selling them television sets, clothes, high tech machines and shoes. China became capable of producing everything and thus, while it's borders are open, China is able to export way more than it imports because there is nothing another country can produce and sell to China that it can't itself produce at a much cheaper price. |
Look at this map, Nigeria is top 10 in % of arable land in Africa and by volume is the largest. Allowing agriculture to be decimated in the country was one of the biggest mistakes of past leaders.
|
abusurv:I agree with your points but the US did not invade Somalia. The Somali government asked for help and the US has taken in millions of Somali refugees. It's Somalia that tore itself apart with its tribalism. |
Mummymahdi:They were chained up and raped. No one has the right to chain anyone else up, not even their parents and rape is obviously bad. If you think there is nothing wrong with it then would you be okay with someone else chaining you up and raping you? |
It comes from the British. In the UK a lot of lawyers and judges wear wigs and this practice can be observed in several British colonies including in the US if one looks through old historical records. Some colonies abandoned the practice while some kept it. |
obidark:Look at the bottom of this picture. The US imports 147 billion dollars of food.
|
Princedapace:Sure by standard of living and purchasing power Morocco is ahead but in terms of economic size and strength, cultural influence etc Nigeria is. The only reason Nigeria doesn't get as many tourists as Morocco is because of saftey issues and a lack of infrastructure. The electricity, water road etc is the fault of shit leaders and us who elect them. We have oil, Morocco has none yet they can do electricity, industry, etc and we can't manage even one. Nigeria makes me cry |
Princedapace:Well said but I disagree with you about Morocco. I would place Nigeria and above Morocco. |
Kevinsamba:It was designed and built by China, I've read a lot on this aircraft. Pakistan owns 50% of it and they did participate in the development but all the heavy lifting (the design, dev etc) was done by China. |
