fortran12: Its a fact that some people are immune to the virus. The virus mainly kills people with underlying conditions and old people. These are the people the focus should be on. Most healthy people get well. Sweden did not lock down and the morality rate is no different than their neighbors. Most of the deaths in Sweden are from old peoples' homes. Nigeria shld stop copying other countries and choose the solution that works best for her. Lock down is not a solution. Its just a way of postponing the inevitable. Learn to live with the virus and keep the healthy ones working while you focus on the old and vulnerable.
Nigeria is not Sweden, we don't have their infrastructure, organisation or innate aversion to personal contact.
Nigeria can open up completely we should just get prepared for the consequences when it is over.
dederocs: stop talking nonsense, countries are opening up for business...stop acting like you care for others, protect yourself or stay inside.
Countries that have managed to control the spread with people who are actually following the guidelines. Even at that only very few business are allowed to open. Are you comparing a well organised society to Lagos where anything goes?
My work requires me to be in contact with possibly infected people throughout the day, so please could you not be an ass and try to actually understand the situation. Save your remarks for people on the streets flouting the rules, it's not me that's going to restart the lockdown but them.
fortran12: Its mortality rate is too low that many will die. Do u know other things kill more than corona? How come there has not beem lock down over those diseases? The media is presenting a mole hill as a mountain to you.
Like I said if you fall victim don't complain. Most of the leading causes of death in both Africa and the West are preventable and treatable.
COVID-19 is also preventable but we are fighting the same preventive measures. It's like someone insisting that they should drink from a gutter regardless of if they get cholera.
Countries more advanced than Nigeria tried to downplay the issue and now they have changed their tone after realising how serious it was. It's now the same Nigeria that you complain about 24/7 that you expect to be fine.
dederocs: stay inside your house, if you jobless people stay inside the crowd outside will reduce...if you idiots can not use mask and abide by social distancing...why do you care if others die? Protect yourself, we are 200million people, Coro can not kill up to even 4million, you know how many people die everyday, normally?
Why the insults, are you really so bad at getting your point across like a reasonable adult?
I am simply explaining a reality you are trying to ignore, most of the people on the streets aren't following these rules, your insults won't change that.
If you fall victim don't complain, don't cry to the government don't cry to God, that's all I will say.
dederocs: Coro will be with us for a long time, is this how we will continue the lockdown, even for a year...you people should think...who will pay your rent?
Rent will pass, coffins are permanent. Since Nigerians have refused to obey the conditions for easing the lockdown we have 2 options;
- open the state completely and accept that many people are going to die.
- lockdown until a vaccine or cure is found or the disease stops spreading.
If we could simply obey then we wouldn't have to make the above choices. If we choose number one nobody who falls victim should complain.
Seun: Salary earners who have not lost their jobs yet, single people who work online, essential workers, etc, will vote yes. Most others would vote no.
A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways.
We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus?
Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy.
The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy.
It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. If we lose one, we will surely lose the other.
Just last week I went out for only 3 hours and I saw.
- People crowding a car boot to receive whatever was inside - people pulling down facemasks and fighting - crowded streets and markets. -some were not even wearing any face mask. - people continuing to touch their faces
Anyone who says that we will follow any science based rules is deceiving themselves. Some don't even think this is real and see no need to protect themselves. In the rush to save the economy we might end up making it worse by killing a lot of people and keeping Nigeria locked down while other countries open up.
payperpost: who goes to the office with that hair style? saggy jeans , rasta hair and big car are two common things with yahoo boys. can you tell us he does for a living?
You will be focusing on his hair when there's not a yahoo club of approved hairstyles. Even Evans one of the worst convicted criminals we have seen in Nigeria looks like a normal human being. Criminality does not show on one's face.
KingAzubuike: What's a young boy like that doing with an ES350? He doesn't look like someone whose source of wealth is legit.
If the youths are poor you will call them lazy, if they are rich you will call them criminals. No wonder people are so desperate to leave Nigeria, to earn money while young is seen as a problem.
ThatFairGuy: All to avail. Haven't said this, the painful part is that FG will still go ahead to import the medicine from Madagascar. Inferiority complex coupled with covetousness. smh
Modified: Those saying otherwise should reason this, if Madagascar Government didn't supported (funded) the research, will there be anything as this?
This man does not have the right to call himself a doctor.
Joshmodest: I'd like is to have this argument ! You just highlighted here that the mother should take 50% I don't know your reasons , but i want to glance at your thoughts , and I expect your reply to be . Cos the mom is always around them , I don't understand how two people would have a child and one takes the larger share of the child's upbringing....now most moms work just same hours as the dads , if not more but society still tends to blame the mom for poor upbringing of the child ..... Fathers make the mistake as a result of what the society has constructed ,to always think thier wives should train the children why they portray themselves as head of the home with biblical references. .. Saying moms should take 50% while fathers take 20 ks like saying lalastic.lala should take the blame for nairaland's failure instead of se.un
Ok please I'm not a child psychologist or whatever but here's my take. It is often claimed that most of a child's intelligence is determined majorly by the mother's intelligence. Since most children spent time with their mothers because of culture, father's working and simple necessity of living they are going to subconsciously influenced by the mother's actions.
u11ae1013: Please, people die every day from various causes, an average of 300 deaths in a month alone was recorded from motorcycle accidents alone in Lagos before it was banned, a lot dies from malaria and other deadly diseases
Let's stop all the unnecessary fear of coronavirus, there is no cure insight, we just have to encourage ourselves and face it
Compare the population of Lagos to Yobe, when there is a snake hiding in your house you can't just sleep peacefully.
valentineuwakwe: Funny enough this illegal travellers could be Almajiris. .....sometimes i wonder where they sleep since they have no homes during any of the lockdown.
There was one old 'beggars camp' on the Lagos mainland next to a run down public school where they would stay in the night, I'm not sure if it still exists or other such places exist around the country. Some may even go to an Islamic school or be hosted by someone to continue begging in their free time.
mmsen: Even worse none of those countries has a population that has doubled in 30 years like Nigeria. And even now Nigerian women refuse to embrace family planning.
Because of religion and upbringing, making learning about sex education taboo and culture of having as many kids as possible.
DonTattaglia: Till then..This is nothing but "Agbo". What is d dosage & hope this will not increase d incidence of kidney or liver failure!!
The stink of illiteracy is rampant in this thread, see as everyone is rushing to drink whatever unverified concoction because they have been fooled into the marketing campaign of natural = good.
I'm sure some people here will even drink cyanide if you tell them it's a naturally occurring chemical.
Donaldoni: Your personal view is flawed. The Bible encourages beating where necessary.
I can beat and retain and I can beat and let go. I may also just let go without beating. It depends on the situation...
The Bible also says you should not oppress a hired servant and that eating crayfish is a sin.
The simple truth is that if you can't work with someone let them go, don't beat someone because they can't defend themselves that makes you a hypocrite.
ityP: I bought a phone from Aliexpress, not Jumia sef wey dey naija. It developed fault, and i returned it and was refunded. So, this your yarn get as e be. I no remember when last i enter shop buy phone. It has always been Jumia and aliexpress or from a tout here on Nairaland
I foolishly waited a bit because the error would come and go and by the time the phone wasn't usable they said the time had passed to return it and since it was a global product it didn't come with a warranty.
Since then I only look at Jumia to estimate prices of things before I buy in a shop. Too many fake products with false advertising there.
