thanks for your reply.. But come to think of it... Even if those are the best results... What's my gain hiding the rest... It doesn't make any sense(maybe you didn't take your time to read and understand what i wrote up there very well) ... During my time in school, we were given some results during some semesters while during some semesters, they paste the results... I only have the ones of the semesters that we were given... For example... During my set, our 400l first and second semester result was pasted.. We were not given... So that's the point I was trying to make and if not for the *ONE YEAR PLUS AASU STRIKE* I won't be here asking this kinda question... Would have walked directly into the school and collect all the docs I need... Thanks for your reply anyways... I am not trying to outsmart the school.. I am only trying to explain the situation I find my self
The bolded is still not clear to me, which school did you attend please? Never heard of universities that give results, results are always pasted and if you need your transcript you can always request for it and this transcript will contain all your results from part one. Most federal schools like OAU, unilag ETC paste all results and you can also check your result online whenever you need it. I am sorry I cant relate with your story. Try to request for a transcript from your school, you cant apply for graduate school abroad with incomplete transcript or results.

Gurus please come to my aid na... Glad i learnt that some schools accepts unofficial transcripts... But I am having a problem... My results from 100l to 500l that I have with me isn't complete but I have my certificate... Please can I attach my 100l rain semester and 500l harmattan result since they are the first and last result I got respectively while in school and attach it with my certificate all together and present it as my unofficial transcript... Please gurus, can this work??...
Isnt complete? Or maybe those are your best semesters and you feel you can outsmart the system? Just sit down and think for yourself, does this make sense to you? Why is the result not complete? Schools give results by semester now? Rat ate part of it? Go get your full result

Good afternoon everyone,

I've been following this thread for few weeks now. I need help at this point. Please, if you can, I'd appreciate it.

So I'm trying to apply to some schools in the states and I'm stuck at the point of statement of purpose. Did some research and it looks quite a bit uneasy like I'd thought it would be.

Please, I'm open to suggestions and advise from everyone. Or if I can get a sample SOP to leverage on, I certainly won't mind either.

Apologies for disturbing you'll. I look forward to someone helping me.

Thanks.
Sometimes, you need to learn how to fish and not depend on asking people for fish. Google is a great engine most people like you ignore and its very sad. You need to be proactive and not depend on people to get some basic info. A quick google search would have given you numerous sample SOPs.If you are planing for graduate school and you cant make good use of google, then you are not ready. In graduate school, there are days you will have to use google just to find a grain out of a bag of grains yourself, so the earlier you start getting use to that the better. Anyway see link below for a good sop you can use as guideline, for your own good, don't copy it. Once you are done writing yours, you can send it to people to help you proof read it and see if its good enough. You can also put ''sop for masters in bla bla bla'' in google. https://crunchprep.com/assets/uploads/2015/10/Sample-Statement-of-Purpose-CrunchPrepGRE.pdf

Good evening all.Am actually new here(a total novice)

I have a degree already in Education accounts and I want to apply to Morgan state university for a Masters of Social Work (MSW). The school didn't require GRE and TOEFL only asked for my transcript to be evaluated by Wes, 3 recommendation letters and a statement of purpose.

My question: is it necessary I still write GRE and can I also use my dads pension statement which is really high for sponsors account statement?

Please I will appreciate additional information from the gurus in the house concerning the steps to take, school, course and other processes involved.Thanks.
You dont need to write any test if the school didnt require it but then you might want to consider how you will explain that to a VO. Mind you, some people have gotten their visas without writing any test why others had to write one to show to the VO they are serious students. That decision is yours to make. And No you cant use your dads pension statement as SOA since pension statement is not readily available cash. I doubt your school will accept that as proof of finance.

Good PM to the entire house... I'm currently following this site daily to know more about traveling experience, I have chosen to study Economics in the California state University east bay and my I 20 and admission Packages were available but my question goes does... Since my school is resuming on the 20th September and yet the agent doing the documents for me his yet to fill Ds-160 not to talk of booking appointment with the embassy. Please highlight and enlighten me more cause I'm confused as he keeps saying make I chill.
Your case is like putting the cart before the horse, if only you had read this thread initially, you will never use an agent. Sad part is, the said agent is even filling DS form for you.Are you not a graduate? You cant read? sigh.. So how do you intend to answer visa interview questions accurately? Secondly, your school resuming September 20 doesn't sound like a good school to me. Most good schools resume in August.Take charge of your own destiny

..
check http://www.valorebooks.com/, they always have cheaper books. Also you don't really need to buy if the textbook wont be that useful after your program, you can always borrow textbooks in your school Library for the whole semester. Alternatively, ask colleagues who have gone through the class to lend you theirs for the semester or download online at http://gen.lib.rus.ec if you don't find it there, you cant find it anywhere except there is a miracle.

Its good that you know where your problem lies. Ditch that community college and apply to a proper university. I still don't understand why people go to community college from Nigeria in the first place. I understand that the situation of Nigeria is bad, don't let desperation push you to stagnancy.Let me ask you, after community college, what next? Put in the work required to gain admission to a good school and don't refire anything. The grass is not always green on the other side

But the phone carrier stuff mheen I jonzed, I chose Metro PCs cos it was the cheapest I could see around me and it $36 monthly with free MB maybe 100MB or so..

Thanks for this info brother..
You welcome but if you can port that Metro PCs to another cheaper carrier, its better. $36 withhout data is rip off. Lyca is even $19 with that same 100mb, thats like $17 dollars different. That 17dollars will buy you Turkey and chicken that you will eat for a month. If you dont have Lyca or ultra in the state you are, You should try Tmobile $27 per month will will still save you some bucks. You dont need to change your number, just port

exactly sir
See the post I made sometimes ago below
Depending on which state you are going, your best bet is Lycamobile's $19 plan, its cheap and its going to serve you till when you settle and you decide to choose other carrier or plan. The $19 plan comes with 100mb data, unlimited calls and text within the US. You can also call about 60 countries too, but Nigeria is not included. You can only call Nigeria's landline on the $23 plan and higher plans. You can try Tmobile's $27 plan too which comes with unlimited call and text within US but no data, the $45 tmobile plan comes with 3gig data. But if you ask me, Lycamobile's $19 is the way for a new student till you settle and decide to choose any other plan or carrier. You can always port from carrier to carrier within 1day. If you are not driving soon, you don't need to worry about data since most apartment (all utilities included) and schools have wifi you can always connect automatically too.You should order the lycamobile plan on there website and it comes with a free sim, with that one guy in the mall wont scam you to pay activation fee/sim etc. I am always an advocate of do it yourself except the issue requires an expertise you don't have.
imperioux made mention of ultramobile or so, you can check them out too. If you have a GA or you will be receiving monthly deposit of not less than $200 I think, Bank of America checking account is the best for me, no charge, nothing. But if you wont be receiving monthly deposit in the account you plan to open, each month you dont receive a deposit you will be charged $25. In that case you can check wells fargo too but I have no ideal about there service. And mind you account in the US do enter negative and you will be charged $35 for each overdraft.

For the new guys, you dont need to wait till when you can afford a car to get a driving license. Its advisable to get your license as soon as possible so that, when you eventually get a car, your insurance bill is not neck cutting. In most cases, the older your license the lesser you pay for insurance. Mind you, some states wont give you a license unless you show prove of car insurance, in that case you can always get the restricted license which allows you to only drive rented cars, I believe that counts too when you eventually get a car and decide to change the reatricted license.Ultimately, Always ask questions from people around you who have gone through this stage you are , ignorance is not an excuse. Goodluck in the Semester

Please I have some questions.

I wish to apply for Fall 2018 and as you know deadline of most schools is in december but we are adviced to send ours applications as early as possible. My question is; I intend to re-write GRE by November, sans that can I apply as early as october, are GRE scores asked during application? or they just wait for the official results from ETS?
You are good to start your application in October, some schools require you to input your result in the application portal while some dont. Either case you should be fine since they will still wait to receive your official GRE score until they review your application. You can start your application by october and chase your LOR providers during that time since LOR is one of the materials that delay completion of application.

Good Afternoon house,
I am a graduate of Linguistics and Communication studies currently doing my Masters in Information Science though i will be finishing June/July 2018. So, some weeks back i got an offer from my uncle who wants me to study in Us and i have been looking for schools which i can apply to preferably Masters in linguistics( Forensic or Computational Linguistics). please house i will be needing your assistance.
Thank you, God bless.
Stop being lazy, in this age of technology you shouldnt come here first asking for schools that offer so so so and so. Take your life serious and put in some work. A first step is to type msc in forensic in google with USA in quote. You will be surprised and marvelled at the number of links to schools and educational blog/website you will get. You can then come back here asking for first hand information about some of the schools you found. Www.msinus.com, www.gradcafe.com might also be helpful. Aditionally, just like someone advised that you should tell your uncle that the school you found require an initial deposit, I will advice you do so because Uncles/Aunties et al are not reliable, I know someone that his Uncle/Brother told him to come over that he is going to sponsor him, he got here, registered for school and the story change. The said uncle started with 'my business is not moving well bla bla bla' so in summary, dont fall victim of such scenerio, the depression and high blood pressure that comes with it is not cool. However, your dream to study abroad doesnt solely rest on your uncle, you can take charge of that dream by writting standazided tests, getting a good masters gpa and proceed to apply for Phd which in most cases comes with full funding. You can also apply for another masters and with the hope of funding. The decision is yours to make

Can I go ahead to apply without GRE cos I don't wanna write GRE pls

Pls don't say "Write GRE" pls...I have money to fund my studies pls[/b]
so since you have seen the requirement and you meet them, what validation are you looking for again? Simply go ahead if your GPa doesnt require you to write GRE and you have the funds. Its as simple as ABC. And by the way, what is all these 'wanna' , picking /forming the black american getho slang is not the way and wont do you any good. Have you seen academic papers with slangs like 'aint, 'wanna' etc? What you keep doing will eventually become part of you and it wont be of any good. Just to re-emphasize what lagosismyhome bolded, you need to delete that statement with immediate alacrity. That school is not one of the best for MBA, saying that to the VO means you didnt do your homework. Secondly, MBA is a very competitive course, you need to attend a very good school to get a job with the way things are turning out, however people are different and destiny differs too. Awaiting receipt? What do you mean by that? Idealy you get your payment confirmation about 15mins after making payment through western Union. Your next step is to fill ds 160 online, pay visa fee at gtb then schedule your interview. Just to chip in, you will need to be ready to convince the VO why you applied to a community college and not a proper university. The rate of visa approval for community college is about 1/5. Who knows you might be the 1 out of every 5.
EducationRe: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by femi312: 1:49am On Aug 07, 2017
Scholastica16:
GRE like every other aspect of an applicant's profile contributes some weightage but the lionization of that weightage is what I am fully against.

If you have been here long enough you'd have known I am a second-time writer myself. Heck, I even advised others to re-write and aim for toppest scores so I believe I am giving a well-rounded, rather than a hastily genaralized purview on the issue.

It was not long ago that someone with a great first and 2nd degree asked for prospective schools for her PhD and when I sighted her <300 GRE I asked her to retake it.

Some other guy saw it and gave contrary advise but to cut a long story short she got 2 fully-funded offers from both schools he recommended. And both were top 150 US schools FYI. In fact, one of the schools that accepted and funded her bounced me yet I more than outdid their GRE, AWA, TOEFL and GPA requirements.

If I was to take the argument that increased competition was my undoing, you may want to delve deeper into the accepted profiles in that school and juxtapose it with mine to make sense of that argument.

You referred to UMich's website but even that is neither here nor there. With your reasoning, GRE scores of 324 and AWA scores of 4.5 or greater are the only stats that would be entertained by the school but a random search on Google can easily disprove this. Take this for e.g someone got accepted into UMich for EE Masters 2017 without GRE and with a 3.68/4 GPA

http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=University+of+Michigan+engineering&t=a&o=p&pp=25

And I singled this example out because I have reported on this thread in the past how my own cousin in Canada contacted a Prof in UT Austin that was willing to help him waive the GRE requirement just so he could take him on as his PhD Advisor.

My synopsis is as it were; while the GRE plays a role in strengthening the profile of an applicant it will not tip the scale in a close call thus it is overrated. If 2 people being considered have 324 and 332 GRE. But Candidate A either spoke to an advisor, or had better research experiences or significantly better GPA, he would be considered over and above the guy with the better GRE.

That is why I implore people to talk to POIs and Prog coords to make informed decisions based on the feedback they get rather than rewrite GRE to score really well, when doing so may only get you through the front door and not a step further.
I am not disproving or against what you wrote up there, Infact I agree with some of your sentiments but that 'someone' you referred to in that link got admitted to University of Michigan at 'Dearborn' not 'Ann Arbor' which I believe are different schools.
