LagosismyHome: Depending on your plans.....if you need the masters or phd just as a stepping stone to later move on to residency for me ooo.... there no need paying that money for ivy league . I go to the cheapest school as most people i have seen with that plan never end up using the degree Just curious, what do you mean by they don't use the degree? After Ivy league, they got jobs that are not applicable to the degree or they went into business? |

NiklausAkins: Hello house, Please when going for the Visa interview, is it the bank statement I used in getting admission that i'l take to the embassy or I can get a better statement with better amount of money inside?? And take for the interview Yes but If any particular person is stated on your i20 as the source of funds, then you have to provide that person's SOA. However, if it's just stated family fund, then you can use any family member (dad,mum,uncle etc) |

platypelloid: Respect All, Please I want to apply for a PhD in one of the iv league schools in Yankee, I will spend about 40k for application and 100k for GRE. I'm a med doc,the acceptance rate is 14percent yearly, Please should I apply for this programme?? Kindly advice me please. The question is why shouldn't you? A man that has no dream is a dead man, in life nothing is certain. All you can do is always do your part and hope for the best. However applying to one school is not advisable even if the acceptance rate is 80%. Just like T wood said, look for other good schools to apply to and see this as an investment that you will reap one day. All the best. |

demiiii: I need information on how to get a school and contact the supervisor of the course i intend to study. I have contacted some schools but no response till date.
How do i streamline my search based on the course and requested location - Maryland or environ. Because, I have a family member there so its easier for me.
If there is any one who has the above qualifications as mine, kindly advice me on the best course of which I will ger a quick response from the supervisor of such course. Thanks in advance.
That is what I mean... There is no special way to contact potential supervisors, all you have to do is send email and pray he/she responds. Faculties are always busy so 2 out of every 50 will most likely reply you.By the way you don't need to contact any faculty for mba admission since most of the time they don't get funded due to the nature of the course. Constraining yourself to only Maryland because your family is there wont help you, what if the school you get admitted to is not close to your family? Anyways here is a link to schools to maryland http://www.4icu.org/us/maryland/ |

No amount of hatred will bring me down because God has uplifted me big time. This is unnecessary, saying 'senselessly' is very rude. I believe we should all deal with each other with respect whether young or old. Because this is a faceless group doesn't mean everybody is the same age group. You will marvel when you know the age of some of the guys, people talk to anyhow here as if they are age mates. On the other hand, whether age or not, there should be mutual respect. |

vikings809: Hello house,
A hearty thanks to everyone contributing to the success of this thread.
I'd like your opinion on this matter:
I'm applying for PhD Physics in the US for fall 2018. I've written the GRE (scored between 310 - 320) and the Physics GRE as well (result is pending).
My worry is that I don't have a Masters and my B. Sc degree was attained years ago. I'm thinking of applying to LSU, UC Riverside and U Florida. Should I look elsewhere? Which other schools should I consider if so? And what else do I need to do?
cc: No GPA stated, No research experience stated and above all, you have a wide range of GRE score, you must take the people on this thread for Jesus who can see the unspeakable. You are hiding on a faceless forum? You are not ready to get advice or suggestions, when you are ready..I hope someone will answer you then |

pronto543: Hello peeps,
I have been a silent viewer of this thread. The first day I came across this thread around May this year, I knew I had struck gold. I took the time to read from the very first page up to 200 and something page it was on then. May God bless the soul that started this awesome thread. I have in short benefited immensely. I download all the materials I've been prepping with. I simply download from the various Dropbox and google drive link posted by the well meaning brothers we have here. I printed on campus since it often cheaper. Although I spent close to 15k, I must say it's money well spent given the knowledge I've gained reading these materials and when compared to the cost of buying each of the materials from the bookstore.
I sat for TOEFL on Saturday, 28th October 2017 at JKK centre. I registered with MAFIT and while I had less than 2 weeks to prepare, I focused on the speaking and reading. I'm pretty good in Writing but I still had a little practice on both the integrated and individual writing task.
I had written TOEFL in 2014 so I was already familiar with the exam overall. I scored 98 at that time. A day before the exam, I practiced with the TOEFL iBT software and reviewed all the questions I missed.
My scores were available on Tuesday, 7th November after just 7 working days. I wasnt able to complete the Listening as there were 2 questions I couldn't answer before the elapsed. I guess that is the price I have to pay for trying to eavsdrop on other test takers who were already on the Speaking tadk while I was on Listening task. Below is the is the breakdown of my scores:
Reading-->25 Listening-->24 Speaking-->24 Writing-->28
Total--->101
I am happy although I was aiming for 105 upward with at least 26 in Speaking.
I've registered with BRABIT LTD for GRE. My test date is Friday, 24th November. I actually told them I preferred Saturday, 02 Dec so I have less time for preparation. They also offer free Magoosh online access which I'm enjoying already. The reg fee is 45k which is quite cheap when compared with most centres.
Below is my profile B.Eng Agric & Bioresources Engr (4.06/5/0 CGPA) M.Sc Environmental Engineering (5.4/7.0 CGPA)
My target schools are: North Carolina State Uni, Raleigh University of Massachusetts, Amherst Temple University Morgan State University
I'm planning to apply for Ph.D haven contacted POI in some of the school and getting the green light.
Gurus in the house please help me with tips on how to score above 160 in Quant's. Your comments are really appreciated.I have been using the Official GRE guide, Manhattan 8 Series and Manhattan 5lb and now I have access to Magoosh online prep. The problem is that my preparation has been on and off due to work and hustling.I'm a bit jitry. Another challenge is application fee palaver ($285) and transcript evaluation ish($325). I really need financial help people.
Can someone help me get in touch with someone outside the shores of Nigeria to help with payment in order to beat the high exchange rate? I really crave your help guys!!!
You can pm me Congrats on your score. Are the schools asking for transcript evaluation? If I were you and I know my financial status I will avoid schools with transcript evaluation, and schools that require official transcript like plaque. Mind you, if you are planning to apply for fall 2018, you might not meet the deadline. Evaluation takes a minimum of 1 month and depending on your undergraduate/postgraduate school, it might be longer. My advice for you is to look for other good schools that doesn't require evaluation or official transcript and test scores. And if only one of the schools is asking for evaluation, you can weight your options and remove it from the list. Last time I checked, the top 2 schools you listed there don't require any transcript evaluation |

As far as am concerned, I don't believe in all these red flag school stuff. If you do your homework well and really understand why you are going to the USA. Then no issue about Red flag or no red flag.

sexybaby22: Hi, please can you advice on any University that will accept a second class lower degree student for masters in engineering management without GRE, or industrial engineering? Before I start I don't know how to mince my words, I say things the way they are and I am not here to say things that will make people happy.I call a spade a spade.You have a 2:2 and you don't want to write GRE to boost your Profile? Wonderful. First, can you afford the fees? forget any story any Uncle or Aunty might have told you, he/she wont pay that fees. You wont know the reality of things until when you get to the US and you know all that glisters is not gold or the way they seem from Nigeria is not the way they actually are. Except your Dad can afford average of $10,000 per semester + average of $10,000 for living expenses for a year then you are good to go but if not, Madam go and write GRE to at least boost your profile and get some form of funding.There is no short cut to success, you have to move out of your comfort zone sometimes. |

RA is better. 1) In most cases it pays more but the difference is not that much 2)If the RA is related to your research, You get to start working on your research ontime instead of proctoring exams and teaching. Trust me you don't want to have lab reports waiting for you on your table. On the otherhand, TA is better than None! |

imperiouxx: I hope you understand that my discussion is about academic success which is what makes you remain on student visa? Do you think that VOs don't consider how likely it is for a student to complete his studies before issuing a student visa? At the point you raised - finance, what would be his home tie if all of them show up at the embassy because one of the family member got admission? And how does he want to care for the family when he/she and his F2 family are not allowed to work as non immigrants for the duration of his studies? GA employment is just a petite job that hardly support you in most cases.
This kind of "trip" is to come to U.S solely to study and one must achieve academic success to continue to be on status. Like I said, it's his call, he should do whatever pleases him. Well Said! |
