Myer:Are you in Nigeria? Not sure you are, going by your post. |
benardtotti:The Budgetary allocations of the presidency and NASS members car purchases as well as allowances seem to be saying that there is money that can be channelled to help grow the economy rather fund individual lavish lifestyle. |
benardtotti:Everything is not funding. Ease of doing business. Tax holiday. Foreign trade exhibitions, easy access to capital, etc |
It is almost 6 months into four years term, we are still waiting for President Tinubu's economic plan for our dwindling economy? Even the agriculture that is the low-hanging fruit is yet to get a boost. Economic diplomacy is good. Foreign investors that make and take out their profits is not bad. But the building blocks of any economy remains the SMEs and local industries. They need presidential attention too badly. By the way is that colorfully packaged Renewed Hope Manifesto a mere ploy to hoodwink? What is happening? |
Portable is gradually building his fanbase. He has already bagged an international award. Forward ever Zazu. Ahead, ahead! |
cyprex:Two things. One, if nothing is done with respect to a labour leader who was brutalized for going on picketing which is a legitimate tool of labour unionism to pressure employers, then the essence of labour union is defeated. So a reset is necessary. That strike and the attached demands were a reset mechanism to restore legitimacy of picketing and therefore a restatement that Joe Ajaero did nothing wrong by leading workers on picketing mission in Imo State. Two, if you understood how unionism works you would have known that an injury to one is an injury to all. So, to you there was no justification for shutting down the country but to the Labour Unions, there was a COMPELLING justification for doing so. They have the power to call FG to order. They did. FG through Nuhu Ribadu apologised and promised action. Balance of power reasserted. Win-Win situation. |
Timmi:You are deliberately not saying the truth if you say Joe Ajaero didn't go to Imo State on picketing mission, which is a legal labour union activity. And that deliberate denial of truth has made you comfortable to justify Joe Ajaero's brutalization to calm your conscience. Look, it doesn't matter your deliberate denial of the naked truth, the fact that Joe Ajaero went to Imo State on picketing mission to get Imo State Government to do the right thing made the NLC and TUC affiliates to attempt to shut the country down. Simple. Besides, you can google what Joe Ajaero went to Imo State to do before attacked. It is simple. |
Timmi:Let's go along the line of your argument, so people who embark on political campaign should be brutalized by the police? Is it now the new norm under President Tinubu because what's goes around comes around? Come on, remove your political lens and see this act of battery for what it is. If you were active in SUG before the bastardization of NANS, you would have known that NANS intervened in any unresolved maltreatment of a SUG official by University authorities on any campus in Nigeria and there was always a threat of nationwide protest. |
Timmi:If your conscience insists on this, it's OK. |
It is simply wicked of Adams Oshiomole to rationalize the brutalization of Joe Ajaero for political reasons. No citizen deserves what happened to Joe Ajaero and that was what led to EndSARS protest. Sadly some youths who supported the End SARS protest today support this brutalization of NLC president for political and ethnic reasons. We do too much to please our oppressors. Even if his mission in Imo State was political, when has political campaign becomes offense punishable by brutalization? The fact is that the Police had the option of just detaining Joe Ajaero in isolation to cut off oxygen to the then ongoing legitimate labour picketing but they chose brutalization to please some clowns who call themselves democrats. By the way, there is no picture of Adams Oshiomole with swollen face and bloody bandages as NLC President anywhere. Look, I don't know about these days but during our time of campus Aluta struggle, if our SUG president comes back to the campus with swollen and bloody face, the campus and the town will be turned upside down. How much more the president of NLC. We are talking national president here. Nonsense! "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." - Martin Niemöller |
Kay25:If the police you are supposed to run to for protection is involved in your ordeal, the best thing is to turn to your own constituency for support and succour rather than take the laws into your hands. It is simple. |
Ok |
OmoFiditi:May be the state of the economy has messed up your brains. It is expected. I understand. |
Kay25:Assault/battery is a felony all over the world. It doesn't matter who is involved and the circumstances. If anybody can beat anybody up for whatever reasons and nothing happens and if the national police can supervise the beating of president of NLC for picketing legally and nothing is done, then a dangerous precedence has been set. Brutalization of Joe Ajaero might be music to your ear because you hate him but what you and people like you have forgotten is that your hatred has beclouded your sense of humanity, civilization and rule of law and the seed of 'anything goes in the jungle' you are sowing will grow and we all will enjoy the fruits. What goes around, comes around. Peace! |
Exceed15:His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. |
WHITELIGHTER:You sound frustrated. Is it the economy? Take it easy |
I think that President Tinubu is looking down at Comrade Joe Ajaero with a combination of disgust and suspicion. Reason why a needless bloody assault on him was considered a non-issue in spite of his high profile position. One thing is certain, if the NLC president was brutalized and nothing happened, then the days of labour protests and picketing as pressure tools are over. Yes, the current economic realities may make it difficult for President Tinubu to meet all the demands of the Organized Labour and NLC/TUC are aware of this but Tinubu is currently on the high horse of 'disgust and suspicion'. He needs to come down and reach vital compromises. If former President Buhari had a smooth relationship with NLC and compromised on removal of fuel subsidy for peace, how much more Tinubu who prides himself as a political strategist. In conclusion, I believe NASS should amend vital Labour laws to insulate serving NLC and TUC leadership from partisan politics in this case Labour Party. It will help when NLC and TUC are negotiating with FG. The current situation is untidy given our local peculiarities. |
Of all the cyclical looting and developmental problems in Imo State, you consider Achonu and his lovely wife as top of them in your mind just because his wife is Fulani? OP DeltaFire you and your likes don't know where the rain started beating you. By the way, has Gov. Akeredolu's wife Betty Akeredolu nee Anyanwu who is Igbo from Imo State stopped her husband from pursuing the interests of Ondo State and being a true Yoruba man? Did Godswill Akpabio's wife Unoma Ekaette Akpabio nee Ejike who is Igbo from Enugu State stop her husband from pursuing the interests of Akwa Ibom State and being a Annang man? What makes you think that Nathan Achonu a full-fledged Igbo man will be too weak-minded to control his Fulani wife as a Governor? I am ashamed of you as a fellow Igbo man. |
Will be very refreshing to have a Dino Melaye as an Executive Governor of Kogi State. Just saying... |
She also recalled how her grandmother told her to ensure she becomes successful as no one will look towards her if she's nothing. This is the biggest advice and source of inspiration you can give young person who is an orphan or in the circumstances like that of Helen Paul. There is no other way to earn respect. Any other thing failure condemns to a life of nobody in servitude. Dr. Helen Paul has done well to listen to that advice and fought hard to achieve success through combination of natural talent and formal education. Escaping to US is the icing on the cake for her. |
Joe Ajaero took special interest in Imo State because it is his state. He wanted the labour issues in his home state to be resolved being the NLC president. The timing was to utilize the election to force Gov. Uzodimma's hand. He did nothing wrong to deserve the brutalization. The fact is politicians want NLC to be emasculated but it is up to NLC members to bury their inhouse differences and fight to retain their relevance and power as the mouthpiece of Nigerian workers and common people. However, NLC should do well also to distance itself from Labour Party. It is blurring things at the moment. |
The shameless appointment and NASS' confirmation of political godsons of Akpabio, Wike, etc as Resident Electoral Commissioners is simply satanic. It amounts to dragging this country back in its already slow democratic growth. It is a sad development. Disappointingly sad. |
Monitoring and evaluation are important in any ongoing activity. My advocacy is that making targets and KPIs of ministers public will put pressure on those ministers to perform than just making it internal matter. However, the question is, with key political heavyweights being ministers, would a president who is looking to secure 2nd term have the balls to do anything drastic? The answer is blowing in the wind. ![]() But to think about it. Why should educated adults who are selected out of millions of Nigerians to be ministers lack the passion and dedication to perform for their country unless they are supervised? And knowing that these are former CEOs, former governors, professionals, etc ![]() |
I use to see Seyi Tinubu as a smart dude who would deliberately stay away from Aso Villa and instead operate silently bringing in businesses from outside Nigeria to explore opportunities in Nigeria, create employment and boost the economy while securing handsome stake in their local operations. I use to think he is a TRUE entrepreneur. But by this singular act of unnecessarily sneaking into FEC chamber to attend its meeting unauthorized, Seyi Tinubu has shown that he just is a lazy dumb head and that all the businesses that were touted as his are just empty shells. He is just a helpless "omo daddy". In fact Buhari's son has proven a smarter person. Seyi Tinubu fall hand big time. Now, his dad has subtly chased him out of Aso Villa since he refused to have sense. His value has taken a big crumble and people in Aso Villa will always see him as a busybody. I am sure he will either fly out of Nigeria to cry on his wife's shoulders or man up and explore opportunities. |
You don't want your son in attendance but you permitted and enjoyed being venerated by your ministers singing "On your Mandate" in FEC meeting. ![]() |
Leave the shadow. Always go after the substance because that's what matters. |
President Tinubu has subtly replaced Ajuri Ngelale with Bayo Onanuga. ![]() Looks like President Tinubu who claims to be a democrat is struggling to work with people outside his circle of venerators. |
Shut the f*CK up! |
Not surprising. Don Jazzy has always generously given back to the society. Though COVID slowed him down but I guess things have picked up again as it should be. |
This new drive for environmental cleanliness in Lagos shouldn't be for markets alone. Where are the street sweepers, drainage ducks, PPP waste-collection and disposal initiative, beautification of major roads and parks, etc that worked well during Fashola's time? If these had been allowed to continue, today it would formed part of life in Lagos. The difference between developed countries and stunted countries like Nigeria is PLANNING. Developed countries brainstorm and produce both policy document and implementation plan document to back up any new policy move. This ensures sustainability. Stunted countries conceptualized and implement policies on knee-jerk basis and sometimes with ulterior exploitative or punitive motives. There is zero sense of sustainability or continuity following change of leadership. Lagos State needs a well-thought out policy and plan of action to make its environments clean over the next 10 years with clear timelines to measure progress. It should be something holistic, sustainable and institutionalized over a period of time as an aspiring megacity. Lagos State should do better. |
So far, President Tinubu has been a huge disappointment. The state of the economy and his nepotistic appointments count heavily against him. I hope he comes up with plan to revive the economy sooner than later. |
