I have never heard, of a main airport being closed for hours so that the air force can 'train' for a fly-past for an upcoming Independence holyday... Is there something new they plan to surprize us with or is it a guise for something else especially given that the air force has always used its main airbase as a launchepad for its flypasts in Nairobi or anywhere else in the country.. There is also the moi airbase in Eastleigh in Nairobi, but DoD choses to close a whole main int'l airport for 'training?'
AS KENYA PREPARES FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY WILL JKIA BE SUBJECT TO THREE TEMPORARY CLOSURES (Posted 25th November 2016) Preparations are ongoing for the celebrations of Kenya’s Independence Day on the 12th of December. Subsequently, in order to allow Kenya’s air force to train for their fly by maneuvers on the day, will Jomo Kenyatta International Airport be temporarily closed today, 25th of November from 11.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs noon and then again on the 07th of December during the same time. On Independence Day 12th of December will the same restriction apply and flights into and out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will be delayed accordingly until after the air force’s aerial display is completed. RwandAir has subsequently issued a delay warning for their flight from Entebbe via Nairobi to Kigali to accommodate the airspace closure. Passengers on all other flights scheduled to arrive or depart during the 11 a.m. to 12 noon timeframe are advised to check with their respective airlines to ensure they have up to date flight information for the days in question, 25th November, 07th December and 12th December.

have you seen the construction going on at the entrance of kahawa garrison? I tried to take pics but I was too far out, they've got security ballards(removable static) , that have separated the entry side to the exit side, there are some watch towers added, there some amoured vehicles stationed 24/7 Ata strategic locations overlooking the fence at all time, they have automatic road blockers on both sides of the enntrance for hostile vehicle mitigation....last time I passed there, they were installing metal detectors...... I have tried to search online for any info about it yo no avail.... The only thing I have come upon is this 1 LinkedIn account (that's how much I have searched!) where one guy from the company that did/is doing the project talked about being awaraded the job Quote: We are proud to be awarded Kenya Department Of Defense (Kahawa Barraks) gate security systems despite being only 3 months old company. The system consists of spike barriers, hydraulic road blockers, UVSS, luggage Xray machine, full height turnstile and walk through metal detectors. Our contract value is Ksh 27m (approx $270k). $1 = 100 Kenya shillings The road blockers look like this(the pic above)
A grant from google.org made it possible to create an anti-poachin system which comes with with thermal imaging cameras (FLIR) that rang 1.3 km raduis with a software algorithm that can differenciate a poachers (human) signature and movement from the heat signature of other animals, its like a poacher alarm .... The system is currently undergoing beta-testing at various parks in Kenya... On the first month of testing, they caught 28! poachers at night!
After successful launch, I wish KDF would take interest, it can be fit on any vehicle, imagin having this on your recon vehicle, you will never get ambushed by surprize, it automatically notifies you on any suspicious movement at close range
Kenya currently has 310MW wind firm in develpment in lake turkana which will be the largest wind firm in africa --next year 1000MW coal plant in Lamu ---expected 2018 750MW LPG gas plant in Mombasa to power a planned EPZ hub a 1000MW thermal downdraft Tower which is in proof of concept phase(its a new technology) 140 Geothermal plant expected 2018 there are very many others which are like 60mw,100MW,40MW.......
kikuyu1: IDK the KN were so casual! You can't see the KA mixing civvie and mil that way. Surprising since the former normally cream the latter at march and shoot. In 09 or 10 they finished a whole 20 mns ahead of the army team at Uaso Ngiro swamp! A KN lost his rifle and lower right arm to a croc.
why would you want to pit navy against army..ha! ....a swamp is technically still on land, throw them in the ocean, river,or lake the situation would be different Anyway, about uniform, could have been a routine fitness exercise but since the region is not exactly safe, routine exercise is also a foot patrol
Fidha254: Nowadays you cant walk 100m in Nairobi without spoting a camera staring at you all thanks to uncle kamau's integrated urban surveillance system
A video of the comand center (the voice and the sound in the video sounds like one of those realy badly done african movies (no offence) but its a nice video)

@Tinfoil is the only East-African active, but i'm sure he lives in Minneapolis, in America. That's why he can post.
If you guys have reached a level of making alshabaab jokes..... then it pleases me to know we are doing good... coz such jokes wouldnt have been made when $h!t was real........
as for TinFoil, pretty sure he will be joining us very soon....dont shock him too much, the internet is just fine over here, sometimes even better that some states in US if you know where hang out
frumentius: Kenyan mechanics perform such sensitive work their identities cannot be revealed.
Nah, from where I got them and how I got them, I wasn't sure if express permission was obtained... I can afford to be accused of a few copyright violations but revealing faces/identities of soldiers inside a barracks(where there are warning signs not to take photographs) without permission...that sounds more serious
Obama promised Kenyans that once he is out of the Whitehouse he will visit Kenya on a holiday with all his family and just hang out and relax........ Maybe he should make that a permanent stay
ollah1: It's easier said than done. Some Americans are dumb if they think those companies will relocate to the states. The Google pixel and Iphone 7 cost a fortune despite been manufactured in China. What do you think the prices will be if manufactured at home?
frumentius: AMISOM is an AU, not UN mission, so good luck getting re-imbursed by a cash-strapped AU. Besides, Kenya went into Somalia unilaterally, and only got AMISOM-hatted after the fact. We were in Burundi for 10 years paying not just for ourselves, but for Mozambique as well when it was just an AU mission. By the time the UN came in, our mission was over and we consoled ourselves with a job well done for fellow Africans.
Its an AU mission on cover but once you open the book, the money is paid by UN and EU.... The UN is the one that gave the AU the mandate/approaval for the Amisom mission.....Kenya negotiated with UN on what would be reimbursed but the. UN security council refused

The European Union is a longstanding partner of Kenya. The first formal link between the then European Community (EC) and Kenya was forged in 1968 at Arusha when the East African Community signed the Arusha convention establishing trade relations between three partner states (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda) and the EC. Kenya then became a member of the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of developing countries which signed the Lomé I Convention in 1975. A year later the European Commission established a permanent Delegation in Nairobi to promote the implementation of Kenya-EC cooperation.
This cooperation of over forty years of a committed and long-term strategic allegiance, providing a comprehensive range of trade, development, security and humanitarian support to build peace and prosperity in the country. Above all, Europeans – businesspeople, diplomats, tourists, artists, NGO workers and many more - are invested in a relationship with the people of Kenya, a close cultural and social relationship that will last for many decades to come.
Together with its 28 member states, Europe is Kenya's largest trading partner and market for its exports worldwide. The European Union supports Kenya’s leadership in the region, as an economic gateway and trade leader, and supporter of good governance. European companies lead the way in investing in Kenya, generating thousands of jobs and tax revenue. The European Investment Bank provides long-term development loans, at generous rates, to support the building of energy and transport infrastructure.
Kenya’s security is dependent on regional stability and is important to the security of Europe.
The European Union is the largest supporter of the peace process in Somalia, including in financial support to the African Union Mission to Somalia. We also strongly support regional institutions of security and stability.
The European Union believes that development support in line with Kenya's national priorities is key to increasing prosperity but also recognises a growing role for the private sector, trade and investment. The EU and its member states make the largest contribution of development assistance to Kenya. European Union development assistance is supporting new born babies and farmers; devolution and access to justice; roads and energy infrastructure; access to affordable food and clean water; the urban poor and those living in Kenya’s remote regions.
From 2014 to 2020, the European Union will spend Euros 435 million, working closely with the Government of Kenya, to continue to improve key Infrastructure, agricultural development and food security, and to support governance that builds social unity.
Development assistance is only one pillar of the comprehensive partnership with Kenya.

Nigeria and the EU
Nigeria has never been an aid-dependent country. Its own financial resources from oil and gas exports far outweigh those that can be provided by donors. However, the EU considers that external aid could play a role in enabling the authorities to make better use of their own resources, particularly by supporting the government's own initiatives to improve governance. The country has undertaken important reforms in public financial management, in particular to fight corruption.
Inspite of the oil sector’s dominance, it is the non-oil sector that is fuelling growth. Sustainable expansion of agriculture is expected to play a big part in unleashing future economic growth. On the political front, the country is considered as an emerging democracy. However, it faces an Islamist insurgency – Boko Haram – in the North and renewed instability in the Niger Delta.
The West African country is on track to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on universal primary education, greater gender equality and women’s empowerment. Other MDGs are further from reach: poverty reduction, child mortality and maternal health.
The National Indicative Programme for Nigeria outlines the main focal sectors of the EU cooperation with the country during the period 2014-20 under the 11th European Development Fund.
Over the past decade, EU-Nigeria cooperation has steadily expanded. It is grounded in the ‘EU-Nigeria Joint Way Forward’ agreed between the EU and Nigeria in 2009. This outlines the priorities for bilateral EU-Nigeria cooperation. The 10th EDF Country Strategy Paper sets out the priorities for EU funding to the country, 2008-13.
The 10th EDF programme for Nigeria, jointly drawn up with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, allocates €677 million for the period 2008-13. The three priority areas for programme and project funding are:
You do know that 'poor aid dependent' Kenya has better standards of living than Nigeria
----- . However, the EU considers that external aid could play a role in enabling the authorities to make better use of their own resources ----
Even with all the oil you still have a lower human development index than Kenya, Nigeria is a case of you got there but far from there, I sujjest you do alittle research on Kenya b4 making xenophobic statements with no facts to back em up with
