Henry120: Your reasoning is very low and awful in south-africa.
How did you pass your exams?
Logic 101. Since SANDF and SAPS were not stakeholders on the project, how will they have any interest in acquiring IKIRI? Beside we have our own made Springbuck (iV).
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m):
Henry120: It is heartening to read that, there is actual joint collaboration between the defence industry of nigeria and south-africa.

The IKRI-7 is a jointly developed APC for the nigerian police, and a very welcome development for both the nigerian and south-african defence industries.

The europeans jointly built and deploy the IVECO LAV, I don't see why a jointly built south-african/nigerian IKRI-7 should also not be freely used across both police and military forces across the continent.
The reason is because IKRI-7 was made specially for NPF and not for SAPS and SANDF. BTW, IKRI-7 is just a mere copy of Springbok IV manufactured by DCD with few modifications.

agaugust: Did you read the comment before you jump on your laptop to yarn rubbish?

I said Nigerians are the geniuses of the black race worldwide, and it hurts you? Nairaland is an example of Nigerian creativity, nothing else can match it from any other African country from Cape Town to Cairo....reason why you all flock here to open your mouths on our internet forum grin
Well, that's an opinion afterall. I have never been convinced by Nigerians intelligence so far. That misconception only circulate around your small pea size brain. Developing social forum does not equate to showing intelligence. South Africans have developed many social network including the most famous "2go".

agaugust: Welcome back to January 10 !!!

I hope the Sirius Black's thread was not the real target. Well, it seems any thread created before January 10 2014 is lost, I think Nairaland has a 6 month back up data storage with it's host, maybe that's why we went 6 months back in time. I lost about 1,500 posts.

Nigerians remain the geniuses of the black race worldwide, Nairaland is the greatest internet discussion forum created in Africa, success brings enemies.

Accept our sympathy and solidarity Mr.Oluwaseun Osewa, CEO Nairaland.
Yes, the black race which continue to kill each other like dogs is considered genius. That's great.

agaugust: there are different levels of training for reserve force according to each country's policy, and therefore different levels of combat readiness of the reserves. some are 100% combat ready like in Israel, some are 25% as in Nigeria. South Africa i dont know what percentage readiness they have until i see details.

it is easy to provide the remaining part of training for nigerian NYSC with AK-47 rifles. they already have army camp regimental training.

3 million nigerian NYSC members with AK-47 rifles will make even Egypt to think twice.

the heavy weapons you have in south africa are not even enough to share round for your full time active soldiers.

your 50,000 man army having only 120 artillery guns is a big joke anywhere in the world. there are NO heavy weapons for south african reserves to carry, they will only carry rifles.

its very hard to fool me bros ! Lol !

meanwhile, show us source to prove numbers of south africa military combatant reserves that you claim is 30,000....show us proof.

.
You should have first provided the source for your claim of your so called NYSC

You are dreaming!! Nigeria has zero reserve forces. Our reserve force has many bases across the country and they even deploy to UN missions. They carry heavy weapons which are part of their inventory separate from those of SANDF

The strength of SANDF= ±75 000

The strength of SA Reserve Forces= ±35 000.

In SA, the minister of defence heads the following.

Military Veterans
SANDF
SA Military Reserves
Special Forces (President of the RSA)

agaugust: why is it that south africa never wants to help the poor and weak africa countries without getting a financial reward like mineral mining contracts in return ? why ?

when the rest of africa was helping you guys escape the chains of apartheid did you promise us anything as reward ? a brother is a brother !

.
Why are we helping Nigeria now to industrialise by investing more in your economy?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 3:17am On Jan 10, 2014
agaugust: If you want to count that, Nigeria has the largest number in Africa for such class of trained reserves.

every 3 years Nigeria trains new batches totaling about one million NYSC corp members under Nigerian Army special camps. we can mobilize 3 million of them to join our army any time any day. they already have all the army drills, we add firearm drills, they are all university graduates.
Those are not properly organised reserves chief!!! I told you to go and learn. They do not have units and as such you cannot reduce them as reserves simply because they received military training. You have zero reserves. Fact!!

South Africa has properly organised reserves who are working full time with their units. Structures which are properly equipped with heavy weapons.

rka1: Because it was a UN mission and their responsibility. We have airlfted troops and equipment to missions in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali etc and even been evacuating Nigerians from CAR with a C-130 and chartered flights, so airlifting in not a problem.
So, why is it a problem if we let UN to take reaponsibility of every cost that we incur. Why is it a problem if we SA do so? Why is it a problem when we do it?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 1:59pm On Jan 09, 2014
chris365: Oh, you couldn't site any better example but a UN blunder? What about Nigerian missions in Liberia, SL, Ivory coast, Mali, Bissau,? Did the UN pay before we embarked on those missions?
Mind you. That story was no one's personal opinion but the general problem the current SANDF faces. You have lost professionals faster than in any war zone. Your promotions are marred by racial discrimination, and your fat useless generals eat up more than half of your budget. What's the pride in that? Huh?
You are accusing SA for being over-dependent on UN aid, but you failed to airlift your troops in Sudan out of your own expense. We did it, but we are always relying on UN for help.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 1:33pm On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: Stop lying, it is well documented about the exodus of SANDF personnel due to your policies of positive discrimination.
It has already been covered in the past re peacekeepers in Sudan who were the responsibility of the UN and not the Nigerian Military. The UN eventually brought them home. It was their mistake.
So, why didn't your military exercise their own discretion just like we did other than waiting for UN.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 12:59pm On Jan 09, 2014
chris365: guy. either you are the worst mistake of SANDF, or they don't produce intelligent personnel anymore. shame
"SA pays fat salaries to avoid mass exodus". that is why you don't have money left out of billions of dollars in defence to maintain your overpriced jets. you even lose pilots faster than any country in Africa. you can't sustain a mission unless payed for by UN, your military is a mess even after getting the biggest defence budget in Africa.
and you think that's something to brag about? your money goes to maintain old expired fat bellied generals that you refuse to retire. and you wish Nigeria will follow suit. nonsense.
Nigerian military promotions is based on merit and retirements don't translate to mass exodus as some of the retired generals work as private contractors to the military.
we may not have very big budget, but I will prefer the way Nigerian military spends to the way SANDF does in a million times.
by the way. about mass exodus, I believe you know SANDF is the leader in that category in African militaries.
With dwindling budgets, an exodus of highly-skilled
technical staff
and reduced spending on training and
equipment, the SA National Defence Force (SANDF)
can barely meet its constitutional obligations,
according to military experts

http://tia-mysoa..com/2012/09/sandf-on-verge-of-collapse-so-whats-new.html?m=1
isn't that a big shame for a military that gets so much money just to pay fat belly generals? you no get sense
Don't bring blogs which have been written from people's personal point of view. All pilots who are retiring from full-time military service because of salary related problems are free to pursue other opportunities at their own accord. Many of them still regard military with the highest esteem, thus have joined our reserve forces which is still part of SANDF.

Nigeria also cannot sustain their peace keeping missions without the help of UN. Many of them were left stranded in Sudan where even two of their soldiers died because of depression, while SA could not wait for UN to provide transport, but charted their own plane home.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 12:02pm On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: No, you will be promoted from a Captain to a Major and paid as a Major. It is all budgeted for. There has never been a problem with officers being paid their salaries (I am not talking about deployment expenses etc, which is always open to abuse).
I think you will find the big exodus is from SANDF not Nigerian Armed Forces. In fact, you have people desperate to join cool
Thanks, you have now answered it. If you are a captain and you are promoted to the rank of Major, L.t colonel or even Colonel, there is money involved which you will have to be paid for assuming a new higher rank. Budget=money. SANDF pay very good salaries to avoid exodus that you are experiencing in Nigeria.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 11:40am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: No my friend, it has nothing to do with it in the Nigerian military, it is purely on merit and positions available, hence the compulsory retirements to move people along.
My friend, use your head. Do you by any chance want to tell me that you can be promoted to the rank of a colonel from captain in Nigeria and still get the salary of a captain, that's madness.

No wonder there is such a biggest exodus of combatants in your military.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 11:14am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: Man, you are really limited in your knowledge of military promotions. A mass promotion just took place between the three services and has nothing to do with finances. If you don't pass your exams at each level, you don't get promoted and will be retired once you exceed a certain age in a rank.
Promotions have a lot to do with finance my friend. If you are promoted to a rank of captain you will have to earn more than what you have been earning.

You cannot just keep on promoting if you do not have enough money to do that. I have to admit that SA is also sometimes facing challenge in that respect.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 11:11am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: He was probably including Civil Defence corps members and other para-military organisations, which will take the total now to that amount or even more.
Those are not active military personnel. If I include those in SA, the numbers would even reach above a million.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 11:04am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: That is a silly statement as that is why there have been promotions etc to cater for the new battalions, Brigades being created, so what you have said doesn't make sense.

Officers that have reached retirement age are retired, unless they have specialist skills, so there is no log jam.
My friend we are dealing with subjects that media cannot even reach, but only intelligence sources. Nigeria does not use routine policy of promoting officers due to financial constraints.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 11:02am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: Quote where anybody said 150,00 has been reached? That is the aim, hence the establishment of the 7th Division in the NE, another one being set up in the South South region (amphibious division) and there are rumours that will be followed by possible new armoured division.

It won't take very long as they are churning out 9,000 troops a time.
Follow Agaugust posts which went to even above 180 000.

scipher: joke of the year
Well, I thought that you have said that COAS confirmed the Nigerian military strength as 150 000. That number is yet to be reached.

Yet, the biggest challenge facing Nigerian military from swelling in numbers is lack of opportunities and promotions.

While they are trying to bring the numbers by let say 5000, another 5000 active personnel is resigning to pursue greener pasters in civilian life.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 10:05am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: You are obviously too childish or thick to read. It isn't me saying it but the COAS.
COAS is telling lies, we have realiable stats in our defence sources.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 8:51am On Jan 09, 2014
The only advanced reserve forces in Africa are those from South Africa, comprising of professional doctors, nurses, technicians, engineers, pilots, scientists, combat soldiers, etc.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 8:48am On Jan 09, 2014
rka1: Nigerian Army alone has over 100,000 active personnel already and 9,000 recently came out of training. Will be 150,000 soon.

Challenges facing Egypt is that they have large reserve base which does not train regularly and is poorly equipped without heavy weapons and zero pilots.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 8:33am On Jan 09, 2014
agaugust: SANDF army, navy, air force combined total active is 74,000. i dont see any reliable source for 30,000 reserves.

nigeria has combined total active army, navy, air force about 185,000.

SA is heavily out-numbered anytime anyday.
Nigeria has a total of slightly above 100 000 active personnel with zero reserves. Do you think we don't know anything about that? Egypt has 460 000 active personnel + 800 000.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m):
agaugust: even with your inflated false figures of about 100,000 the Egyptian 1.5 million man army will sourround and eat up the whole south african military the way colony of ants cover a single cube of sugar grin

Chief, the only person inflating numbers here is you. Egypt has 460 000 active personnel including their guards plus 800 000 reserves. Unlike in SA, people who have completed their military basics in Egypt automatically become part of reserve force when they resign. If I am not mistaken, that policy started not long ago. Surely, if that was the same on us we should have levelled them since we train thousands of young matriculants every year through military skills development program to serve in the army for the period of two years.

PL-2 is a scrap yard. Bwahahaha!! The only one I fear is PL-9.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by FighterPilot(m): 7:40am On Jan 09, 2014
Nigerian Airforce has only 20 PL-9 AAMs on their inventory.

"In 2005 it was reported that Nigeria has approved $251 million USD to purchase 15 Chengdu F-7 fighters from China. The deal includes 12 F-7NI (NI = Nigeria) single seat fighters, and 3 FT-7NI dual-seat trainers.[10] The $251 ($252?) million package included $220 million for 15 aircraft, plus $32 million for armaments, including 20 live PL-9C AAM, 10 training PL-9 rounds, unguided rockets"

now let me not reply you, let a fully qualified american air force jet fighter pilot reply you below :

"Upon entering into an WVR (within visual range) combat envelope the MiG-21 Bisons armed with HMS and deadly NBVR/WVR missiles had the capability of destroying even 5th generation fighters like Stealth F-22 Raptor as assessed by high-profile Fighter Analyst Ben Lambeth of RAND Corporation. you don't have a competent air force to challenge even tanzania. not to talk of Nigeria grin
South Africa has a free media and every country in Africa have the worst challenges than those of SA. Nigeria has no free media which can openly criticise their military.
