I don't know where we get our morals from. It's probably a result of evolution. However that isn't what we are here for.

We don't know the point at which they know, so we fix an age at which we expect them to have known, and in fixing the age we aim to err on the side of caution.

A minor cannot "consent" to sexual activity with anybody. We just assume that they don't know what they are doing.

Paedophilia laws stem from our moral concerns. Our moral concern (yours too, I hope) is that children don't know what they are doing. Children are considered to have impaired judgment on many issues, including moral ones. I don't think it makes any sense to ascribe moral values to the sexual behaviour of a child, in light of that.

Also, I dont think a sexual urge can by itself be the subject of a moral law.

What is contained in your OP is paedophilia, which only an adult can be guilty of. Children having sexual urges for adults is not paedophilia, so why are we discussing that instead of paedophilia?

Once the individual is considered a minor, they cannot consent to sexual activity.

An omniscient God can know what you'll do next without having to interfere with your freewill. It somewhat like seeing a movie you've seen before; you know what's going to happen next but you didn't determine that it'll happen.

If there is nothing outside the control of this omniscient God however (and God also created everything other than God), then God has decided each of your actions for you.

Religion occupied a lofty position in ancient times and still wanted to continue its sting up till this 21st century that we have learn alot about the earth, universe and the interactions between matter through science. Globalization and reality are stacked enermy to organized religions. We can't continue to hold such dogma which we apparently know that it is myth, illusion and man-made

The era of non-evaluation-of-claims-and-still-hold-it-as-absolute-truth has gone. Human specie have grown to the level of using scientific investigations to ascertain any ideas or claims that worth sustainability.

We should be able to freely discuss every aspect of religion, including the legitimacy of our father in heaven, God.

May skepticism continue to flourish.

I really have to say dis ooo, since i started coming to the Religious section of Nairaland, i have been seeing some strange threads by people claiming they don't believe God exists & some even blaspheming against God!!! ... i was stunned!!!! To be honest!! I have never met an Atheist in real life though, most people i have met that were not Christians were either Muslims, Pagans or Hindu etc... but never an Atheist though...

So i was really stunned going through some Atheist posts here on Nairaland!!!! I was like wetin be dis? See blasphemy oo!!!! I was shocked cos i haven't really seen people talk bad about God like this... So i think, dis is a welcome to the religious section.....

The idea is that religious ideas are not more special than others, such as political or social or economic ideas. If you don't like a political idea like democracy, nobody accuses you of blasphemy. It should be no different with a religious idea.

Welcome to Nairaland's religion section. Hopefully, before long, there will be a change in what you find sacred.
