You may be right, Sarah. BigSarah: |
This girl is gradually losing it. Her popularity is getting to her head. |
"Unless the penis dies young, it will surely eat bearded meat." "We often stand in the compound of the coward to point at the ruins where a brave man once lived." "Among the Ibo the art of conversation is highly regarded, and proverbs are the palm oil with which words are eaten." Some of Chinua Achebe's words taken from his two greatest books, Things Fall Apart and Arrow of God. I doled my cap off for this great literary giant after reading his first novel at Secondary School. This man had a peculiar way he formed his words. I love Wole Soyinka too but I'd always pick Achebe first. Unlike Soyinka, Achebe would not bother with grandiloquence, that is use of high-sounding words. His novels are all written in plain and simple English but always often punctuated with anecdotes, proverbs, idioms in a very unique African form. That's Chinua Achebe for you. Reading Soyinka's books requires a bit of work on its own and one would need a dictionary to proceed along the pages. With Achebe, however, you wouldn't bother with the dictionary. The words in his novels all come off neat and easy, like a hot knife slicing through thick butter. May his soul rest in peace. |
It happened while I was schooling back then in Nigeria. I had what would be considered by students' standard a comfortable accomodation. It was a small self-contained apartment but well furnished. Anyone who lived in the hostel with four or more other occupants in a room would understand how particularly inconvenient it was bringing in a girlfriend or female students to make love to. Only very few of us who stayed off campus, and in our own private apartments, enjoyed such privilege with much ease. Close friends of mine would occasionally book my room each time they needed to 'spank' a babe. So, on this particular day, a friend of mine brought his male friend and begged me to allow his friend and his girlfriend spend a brief time in my room. The excuse he gave was that his friend was living with his sisters and had no room of his own; and besides, the girlfriend he was bringing over was a "new catch" and would be returning to school the next day. So, I allowed them in. But to my greatest dismay I discovered, soon after they'd finished making love and left the room, that this fellow used my clean boxer from the wardrobe to wipe his ejaculation (semen). There were also few drops of semen on the carpet besides the fact that my room itself now reeked of the odour of lovemaking. The lovebirds had not bothered to dress my bed after using it. Then, to my further astonishment, I noticed that my Etisalat modem was also missing from where I'd kept it on the reading desk! |
My dad (may his soul rest in peace) used to say to me: "My son, if you can put women aside for now and focus on achieving your dreams, you'll become a better and successful man." I took my father's advice and today I am the happier for it. |
YES. Not listed in the snapshot you shared are also the many deaths of innocent Igbos resulting from those senseless Danish Cartoon riots of 2005/2006 in some Northern states. Igbochief001: |

Return the phone to him. If he continues to threaten you, report the matter to police. husseinaaa: |
Don't allow anyone to body shame you. Not even your husband would have the right to do so. If he loved you enough to have married you, he needn't be confrontational but take a practical and friendly approach to convince you to try shedding some weight (if it's what he wanted). Besides, it's not a good idea comparing one's wife or girlfriend with other women. Most women do not like that. However, I can advise you exercise more often and also eat healthy diet. But don't do so because you want to be like the pastor's wife and then please your husband. But do so because you need to stay fit and healthy. Rhodaogunpeju: |
Nepotism? What's more nepotistic than the way President Buhari has been excluding the Southerners in terms of appointments? |
Those may be nicknames. Perhaps their system allows for the inclusion of nicknames in the identity cards. |
The Reno5 with a Snapdragon 720G is better. The other one (Reno F) is MediaTek and MediaTek devices (Tecno, Infinix, iTel etc) are not a great choice when choosing great smartphones. Some people are tricked with Camera. What really matters about smartphones apart from the OS itself, are processor and core CPU strength; the architecture; the screen technology; and then the battery strength. Camera/Selfie this and that are just marketing gimmicks. Even a phone with a minimal 8megapixel camera can still capture breathtaking images. When choosing a new device the most important things I look out for are as follows: 1. The OS (iOS/Android. If Android, at least must be Android 10 and above) 2. The RAM/ROM (4GB and above for RAM; and 64GB and above for ROM) 3. Processor (Snapdragon, Exynos, HiSilicon (if Huawei) but never MediaTek) 4. Battery (preferably 5000MAmph) 5. Screen/Display (Gorilla Glass, Amoled) 6. Network (4G+ LTE (or 5G depending)) I hardly bother about the camera in the phone. I prefer using my Canon portable digital camera for most of my camera needs. |
But indeed Africans are gluttons. Must we eat everything? Personally, I can't eat this. |
That probably may not be the case. Because they are sex-starved in the course of serving the prison terms (except some for whom conjugal visits are allowed) prisoners would often go out of their way to solicit for sex from a female warder. A few corrupted female warders would oblige in this case in exchange for money. setobaba: |
It would be wrong to sell off her phone without her knowledge and consent (even though she's owing you). In some places, that will have serious legal implications for you as she could sue you for illegally discharging and dispossessing her of her property. But if you would rather keep the phone as compensation for part of the stolen money that she couldn't refund back to you, then get her to write an agreement to that effect at the police station. The way, her phone would be legally forfeited to you. WalexyWWE: |
Honored at home. |
I could secretly kiss you for this. What a brilliant response. A firm, decisive and useful advice coming from a healthy brain. doggedfighter: |
This is my state and I am so proud of these landmark achievements in the state. To imagine that IGR, and not federally allocated oil money, is propelling the speed of physical and infrastructural developments in Anambra State. |
Exactly. And I have been wondering the same thing about young women who date and sleep with men quite old enough to be their dad. |
Wow! Thanks. chitheo: |
Happy birthday to Chioma. She's one of Nollywood's best behaved actresses (at least on set). I hardly find Chioma Chukwuka taking on villainous roles or flirting in her movies. Though in one particular movie she did just that when she cheated on her doting husband, Kalu Ikeagwu, by secretly having an affair with another man. I cannot remember the title of the movie now. |
I think she meant pestle, not pistol. |
For me, Styl-Plus. But should prefer Westlife/Backstreet Boys to all these musical groups mentioned here. saphiere: |
Yes. Kunle Afolayan is better than Ramsey Nouah. But Ramsey is trying. He performs better than most other directors in the film industry, at least. His movies, even though mostly not his own original story, are not flops, like millions of Nollywood movies flooding the market. Nigerian films are so popular in the United States. You won't believe it but we do watch a lot of Nollywood movies over here. Not only Nigerian and African immigrants, but white people also watch Nollywood films. Therefore it's only right that we need talented minds producing these movies. I am however disappointed with how the producers subtitle some of these movies. The English texts used as subtitles are often full of grammatical mistakes, which is so embarrassing. iamL: |
Thanks. tot: |
I am checking out these movies right away. Thanks for recommending. tot: |
I have not seen Biodun Stephen's movies, so I can't rate her along the same line as the likes of Kunle Afolayan and Ramsey Nouah. But I guess Biodun is equally another talented movie director to look out for, from what you've just mentioned about her. tot: |
I give it to Kunle Afolayan. The guy is good at what he does. I watched Citation on Netflix recently and couldn't stop wondering how he got it so right. Even the lead character in Citation, Temi Otedola, was only making her debut appearance in Nollywood, yet Afolayan succeeded to make her play the part well. Another film director in Nollywood whose works deserve equal commendation is Ramsey Nouah. |
Symphony, by Zara Larsson for SIM1 Drowning, by Armin van Buuren for SIM2 |
Happy birthday to the erudite professor. Osinbajo should have been the president instead, and Buhari his deputy (v.p.) |
How much you are able to save within a year depends on the kind of jobs you do that yield the money. I can only be honest and speak for myself: I don't quite manage to save up the kind of amount you're mentioning (millions) per annum. My own savings acummulated over the years. I am studying here in Atlanta but also working and making money at the same time. But much of my savings ends up in my domiciliary naira account back home in Nigeria. A small chunk of my earnings do end up also as remittance to family and friends back home. If I should look at my personal savings and equate the sum of money to living standards in this country, it would look as a small saving. However, as repatriated savings, it would appear as multiple millions. So, it depends. The exchange rate of the naira to dollar plays a huge part. MrGoood: |
